A family friend of mine who is pressing for me to migrate recently just asked me if I am interested in joining any force work. We had concluded that we are working on going through the school route. But he started thinking in this line cos (based on his findings) : 1. It seems the UK military is requesting for more recruitments at the moment 2. They are going to take over your academic funding and sustenance fully once you join Also, I am 34 and I am sure my friend is aware, so your age of 33 is +1 year advantage compared to mine. So, I think you should do more digging. Cheers. valcorp: God bless the skylover,Death from above, even the birds are jealous cos on that day the devil himself screamed AIRBORNE(You mentioned being an airborne regiment vet). I really need clarification, can an army officer from Nigeria whose wife owns a tier 2 visa in the UK join the British armed forces? If yes can u please be kind enough to explain how? If no,what can/would u advice a 33year old lieutenant to do? I love the army (I am a infantry man THROUGH AND THROUGH though ours has a lot of issues but Some of us just love the career)but leaving a woman with an 8 month old in another man land(I love my family to pieces) is another issue and I'd rather leave Nigerian army than be an absent father. |

Thanks to @Mamacajah @Skymoore @SegunWamiri @Mimilyrics and all who gave advice on this my choice of Management/FinTech issue. Salford just replied me a mail that FinTech has been approved and I have been given an offer letter. It's really not the best to keep issues to ones self oo toyclicks: Hello good people, It seems this whole thing is heading somewhere. While digging again, I just found out that Salford just added a new course Financial Technology. I seem to be satisfied with it based on my initial concern about the management choice.
https://beta.salford.ac.uk/courses/postgraduate/financial-technology-fintech
But it looks like the University is not yet decisive if they are starting with this session. There is a pop up that reads
New programme: Salford Business School is delighted to present this new programme, aimed at both recent graduates and professionals with a financial, IT or business background looking to expand their understanding of technology in finance.
Subject to academic approval, the programme will open in September 2020. If you want to register your interest, please email:
UK / EU Course Enquiries enquiries@salford.ac.uk International Enquiries mail to: international@salford.ac.uk
That "Subject to academic approval" clause is my concern. If they have not made up thier mind about it by now, I don't know....
Also, I hope sending a mail to indicate interest won't give me a negative kick back since I had earlier secured admission for a course with them.
Your advice are appreciated. Thanks |

Thanks for this encouraging comment following I was almost getting scared from the previous comment mamacajah: In addition, you need to take it one step at a time...have a success mindset and go for the best option that meets your target at this time. Don't forget, you would be eligible for the 1st batch of PGWP'21...so at least you have 2 years to look for a job. However there are other route to Tier -2 such as the graduate entrepreneurship or the start-up visa option. You can even get enough experience to qualify for the talent visa, if applicable and get the 5-year visa.. there are many opportunities right now ..so don't start putting the cart before the horse...
yes, it is good to have plans and options on hand..but just like when building a house, plans change based on different reason..the most important thing at the end, is that the house is finally built.. hope you get what you are looking for... at the end of the tunnel.. |

Thank you I am just trying to look diligently for the course that will give me all options cos of this issue of 10yrs before PR really giving concern cos I believe its better to plan what one will be doing while stalling all that long time. I'm not being pessimistic but just thinking that God forbid that PGPW expires, one can go in for a PhD All just to remain in the system My objective mainly is migration and getting a PR mimilyrics: It's doable but it depends on what you want. Why would you want a PhD? Are you looking at a career in academia in the long term? Would it enhance your career prospects? Is there a particular challenge that you would like to devote your time to getting answers to? |

One more tot Pls what are the possibilities of proceeding with this kinda course to a PhD level mimilyrics: Enquiries about another course shouldn't normally have a negative kickback. Subject to approval usually means that the program is in the final stages of approval and that the school is ensuring but not guaranteeing that the course is ready to run at the next intake so you're right to be cautious about an intake for later this year. If you want to explore your FinTech options, you can also check University of Stirling's MSc FinTech in the link below. I know someone who's a current student on the program and so far, the review has been great. https://www.stir.ac.uk/courses/pg-taught/computing-and-data-science/fintech/ |

Thanks a lot Skymoore1004: Honest to God, I’m just hearing about this FinTech for the first time o. Sounds more like financial management mixed with a touch of technology.
The course availability for this fall, depends on how many students show interest. It’s not a course to rely on, if you’re keen on leaving this year. So you might as well look for an available course that you can swap the management for. Alternatively, you can just apply to different university entirely that offers FinTech as well.
All The Best |

Thanks Skymoore1004: Did you not check the marketability and graduate prospects before applying? Management is a general programme, so you can work in any sector- more of business, hospitality sectors etc.
It’s a common course so it’s not in demand much. Can easily find a British graduate with that degree. So it’s left for you, to make use of any opportunity offered.
Opportunities like: -Placement -Internship -Part time work within that study -Volunteer work (manage projects or team work etc) -Attend Career Fairs and sell yourself to potential employers. -Update your Cv regularly and get help from professionals in your uni to review it. -Start applying for jobs at least after 1st semester via LinkedIn, Indeed.com etc. -Make vast connections because you never know.
Anything that can boost your experience & skills, just engage.
Most importantly, excel & come out with nothing below Merit. Salford is a good university & Manchester has a lot to offer.

Thanks @mamacajah and @skymoore Great insights there Skymoore1004: I agree with you.
As I mentioned yesterday, Supply Chain & Business Analytics are good ones for U.K. applicants but people’s destiny differs. You will be surprised that someone studying management will go and get hired after studies. While the IT guy will go and come back to Nnamdi Azikiwe lol.
Also, not everyone fits the health field because it’s in demand. Tbh I think people should go into the medical field because of a strong passion with sincere intention and not because of work. There’s nothing like having a passion for what you do. It’s even unsafe for someone to do nursing because it’s in demand but deep down wants to be an engineer or something. That kind of person will be good at neglecting, more like doing eye service. Might also be battling with depression even with the PR & money that he/she is making.
I think it all boils down to your passion, previous experience and intended destination. Its good to choice your destination wisely as it suits your profile. Someone going to US or Canada or France or China or Belgium for example, can get a job within the Business field because these countries are producers.
But someone going to Estonia or Luxembourg etc, to study nursing is not feasible. These are IT countries. There’s a destination for everyone, you just got too research properly. It’s better to appear confused & make the right choice, than to follow the crowd & say “had I known”. |

Though I don't want to stay in the sales feild anymore Thanks STENON: if possible, Please change to another course |

Thanks. My choice for the course was majorly cos of my love for biz and entrepreneurship. Secondly, I figured out its a foundational course that can allow me to further (and buy more time) in case i choose to switch into academics The initial course I chose was International corporate finance but later found that intake was for January. Hence settled for Management. These fit into my previous line of experience. Also thinking I could switch to/secure jobs in related lines e,g accounting after taking a professional course But lately, considering the marketability as specific to the UK LaaJiblik: If you plan to stay after the study, you should ask yourself the following questions: 1. What knowledge and skills do I currently have? 2. What knowledge and skills will I acquire in my MSC? 3. What kind of job(s) can I get by virtue of having the MSc? 4. What will be the comparative advantage for an employer to employ me, and not someone from the UK or EU? 5. What do I have/know that stands me out when it comes to landing a job? 6. What industries do I want to work in?
Next. A. Go to google or to any UK job website (such as Indeed or total jobs or Reed etc). B. Search for your dream job C. Carefully study the requirements. D. Sincerely ask yourself: “Do I meet the criteria?” E. Upgrade your skills to make them relevant, and compatible with the job roles.
On a lighter note: Did the university ask you to write a personal statement on why you chose the course? What was your answer? During your visa interview, if you are asked why you want to spend over 10,000,000 naira for an MSc what will you say? |
