I quite agree with you Few pages ago, I had to do myself a lot of control not to react as I concluded it wasn't worth it The fact that everybody is behind their screens and its a faceless community is not a reason to talk to people anyhow. One could easily decipher the maturity of the mind of individuals on the forum by thier way of response. The most unfortunate thing is that, as helpful as this thread is, I know there are a lot of people observing this thread in the background and with relevant concerns they would like to air but they keep it to themselves after observing how ppl have been bashed on this thread. At least, for what I know, in a class, you are encouraged to air your probing thoughts no matter how STUPID they are. I am sure everyone here won't be here if not that they are on an important quest inphoenix: I've been silent on this thread and noticed how insolent you are. I'm not even referring to this incident where you purposely incited the guy who got abusive and got rightly banned. You deserve a strike too for always courting controversy and that's contrary to aspects of rule 2 of this forum.
I'm following a couple of nairaland threads and all are generally convivial with people sharing information and ideas, but this particular thread is not so and it usually revolves around your condescending approach towards people you don't even know. It's not the right approach to life! I'm just saying. |

Thanks a lot. God bless you. It's good knowing this before its too late Can I send you a mail? I would like you help me examine something mimilyrics: Tell your uncle to transfer to your account or your parents' account because an application with an uncle's bank statement will be rejected for lack of sufficient and acceptable financial evidence. Money must be in the account 28 days prior to the online submission of your application.
When asked about how you got the funds in your account, you simply say that your uncle who is funding your UK study gave you the money. On the other hand, your parent(s) are your sponsor(s) if the money is transferred to their account(s) instead of yours; you'd need letter confirming your relationship with them and that you have their consent to use the funds in the account for your study in the UK.
Legal guardianship is usually granted when a child is below legal age, not for anyone over 18. The only adults who can get legal guardians are adults who are incapacitated, incompetent or disabled. |

But for one who has stopped working for a while and with retired parents, I was of the opinion of using my Uncle's account since he is the major sponsor and in active service of a good job. I also don't want the issue of VO questioning how a retiree or someone not working ATM could possibly afford such funds The legal document to show guidanship.... can it be obtained from the court fast? mimilyrics: Yes, any other person has to pay the funds to your account or your parents or guardian's account. The only bank statements that you can submit for a T4 application are yours or/and your parents/guardian's. |

Really? Just knowing this mimilyrics: Only parents or legal guardians (you must have court documents to prove legal guardianship)can sponsor a Tier 4 visa applicant who isn't sponsoring him/self. No other family member can sponsor a Tier 4 applicant for visa purposes.
Other sources of funding include 1. Scholarships from official financial sponsors i.e a Tier 4 sponsor (the university or an independent school where the student will be studying), international companies/organisations, Nigerian government (your home govt), the British govt & British Council.
2. Loans from financial institutions approved and regulated by CBN. |

I hope to apply for Visa by early August. This NHS fee must be paid before I apply for Visa. Right? My school resumes Sept 28 mimilyrics: You'd be paying £450 if you apply before October and if your course is for one year.
IHS is the fee you pay to use the NHS while you live in the UK. |

Thanks so...... 1. School fees 2. Maintenance fee = 9200 Gbp 3. Visa fee = 346 Gbp 4 Tb test fee = $150 5. Flight ticket 6. IHS fee = 470 Gbp So these are the expenses I should worry about And Whats the diifference btw NHS and IHS (google seems to be confusing me the more).should I just limit my concern to IHS fees?
mimilyrics: You missed out IHS cost of £450 for 1 year courses (300 for each year of your course and 150 for the extra time granted after your course ends). It will go up to £470 (Tier 4 and Tier 5 applications) and £624 (for other adult categories) in October 2020.

Now, this is getting depressing. RalphJean: Cambridge University has become the first UK institution to announce it is moving all lectures online until summer 2021.
https://www.lbcnews.co.uk/uk-news/cambridge-university-announced-move-to-hold-all-le/
The university said "given that it is likely that social distancing will continue to be required, the University has decided there will be no face-to-face lectures during the next academic year."
Tutors have been told that lectures will be held virtually, including live-streams. However, the institution still plans to hold seminars, work shops and small group-based learning in person with "strict social distancing" in force.
A Cambridge spokesman told LBC News: “The University is constantly adapting to changing advice as it emerges during this pandemic. Given that it is likely that social distancing will continue to be required, the University has decided there will be no face-to-face lectures during the next academic year. "Lectures will continue to be made available online and it may be possible to host smaller teaching groups in person, as long as this conforms to social distancing requirements.
"This decision has been taken now to facilitate planning, but as ever, will be reviewed should there be changes to official advice on coronavirus.”
Alice Benton, the university's head of education services, told student news paper Varsity plans are currently being formulated to ensure the virtual lectures "will be of the best possible quality".
Cambridge is the first to take such a radical step, but the University of Manchester announced last week that it was conducting all lectures online during the autumn term.
The Russell Group institution took the move amid “real uncertainty” over when social distancing will end and said the lecture theatre "does not easily support spatial separation", but added it hopes to run some face-to-face learning for small groups.
It comes after the regulator told universities to inform applicants whether or not they could expect face-to-face teaching next year in advance of them accepting offers.
The Office for Students said bosses must give students “absolute clarity” and not offer false hopes of a “campus experience”.
Most campuses have been shut since April with classes and exams moved online.
There is growing uncertainty across the sector over how they will operate next year, with institutions already facing huge financial losses from an expected fall in overseas students studying in the UK this autumn.
It is likely to prompt questions over tuition fees, with home students paying £9,250 a year and international students paying up to three times that.
Michelle Donelan, the universities minister, has said institutions can charge the full fee as long as online learning is “quality”.
But some students have expressed concerns they won't be getting their money's worth if all the teaching is done online.
Alex Jones, a second year Cambridge natural sciences student, told LBC News: "Being in a contact-heavy course, there isn't really a substitute for teaching that we get in the lab.
"Already this term we've had half the number of contact hours we were originally scheduled to have, and 10 weeks of fieldwork we were due to have were cancelled.
"If the same thing happens next year it's hard to see how it's worth £9250 when we'll be getting a lot less teaching."
Other British universities, which have been closely watching Government guidance while hesitant to be the first to act, could now follow suit. |

I saw this on FB and it was inspiring.
I decided to share it here
In 2017, after graduating from UNILAG with a second-class lower bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, I moved to the US, where I started a new life as a driver for Amazon. For almost a year, I would wake up in the morning to work my 10 to 11 hour shifts driving around the city of LA, delivering packages, avoiding parking tickets, running away from dogs, trying to reach 30 locations an hour, dealing with disgruntled customers, and even once I had the cops called on me when some (probably racist) person thought I was stealing packages in their neighborhood (I know what American handcuffs feel like hahaha). It was depressing. I had a degree in engineering, but deep down in my heart, I never felt like an engineer. I was nevertheless determined to change my life. At almost every company I delivered packages to, I’d ask for what they did, I’d take a business card, try to see whether I could land some kind of job there – anything I could just put in my resume. And like the fishermen in the story of John 21, there was nothing. For 8 months. Nothing. I didn’t care. I had nothing to lose. I took the GRE, and on a Saturday, while I had been doing my delivery driving, I came upon a small metal fabrication company in Paramount, and after I delivered this lady’s package, I just shot my shot. “I have an engineering degree, but I have no experience, and I just want to learn”. At that point, inexperience had been the one thing standing in the way of my engineering dreams, and I was determined to crush it, even if I had to work for free (thank God they didn’t ask me to work for free cos I’d have done it). She gave me an application, and a couple of weeks later I was an intern. I worked both jobs for the next year. My new job was not funny though, I was picked on, I had my accent made fun of (I like my accent though, I think it’s cute), I learned the American workplace culture of CYA, because I quickly learned that you could very easily be thrown under the bus. I had coworkers yell at me and openly disrespect me, even in the presence of my boss, and watched how nobody did anything. I dealt with unequal treatment, and I could not complain because I was scared of losing my job. But I persisted. I persisted because I had my sights set on my future. It hurt. But I persisted. I still did my best. When I finally told my boss mid-June 2018, that I had planned to quit my job six weeks later to start my master’s degree. He seemed stunned, and so seemed my coworkers upon hearing the news. They probably never believed that I could advance beyond that point. I didn’t have a lot of life skills, I had little experience, and I honestly wasn’t worth much in the job market. From the moment I began this program, my life changed. I took a skill-based approach to education. I didn’t care about the degree; I went for the knowledge. I went for the skillset. I focused on building my resume and I made sure I added value. In this journey, I met people who saw a potential and a value in me that I really hadn’t seen before. I met people who encouraged me. I made good friends. In my first semester, my former boss asked me to come work for him part time. I confided in a wise mentor at my school, and she told me these words “Joseph, you are a bullet… you leave them alone. There are people who will pay you good money to have you in their company with how smart you are”. I promise you; I didn’t see myself as valuable or even smart until she told me that. I took her advice, and one semester in, I landed an internship at an aerospace company. The next semester I was a manufacturing engineer in a transit company. Today I’m in biotechnology, and I honestly feel like there is nothing I can’t achieve. I have reached a new bus stop, but I am not quite done yet. I am intensely grateful to God and to all those upon whose shoulders I have stood. My family, my classmates, groupmates, study partners, and most of all, my friends. It was not easy working fulltime and going to school fulltime, and after all this wahala, after running helter-skelter for 2 years, after spending all my money, on Friday, I graduated. And this time, I feel like a real engineer. I have learned a lot of lessons, and these are my two cents. • Ask. Seek. Knock. Someone might just give you an opportunity. Sometimes, you really have nothing to lose. Don’t be proud, and don’t be shy. • Listen to advice. You don’t have to take it, but you have to listen to it. You have to ask for it. • Surround yourself with people who see potential in you and encourage you. Do not hesitate to cut people who discourage you out of your life. It doesn’t matter who it is, you have no business with someone who makes you feel small, who puts you down and steps on you when you are down. • Don’t give in to fear. “Your degree is from Africa so it is not recognized”, “You graduated with 2:2”, “Your GPA is too low”, “You are lazy”, “You cannot work hard”, “They only give opportunities to their people”, “You are not smart”, “You are getting older”, “Your English is not good”, “You can’t keep up with these people”, "You are not exposed to the system", "You are green" – don’t listen to them. If I can do it, you can do it. • Remember why you are in the race, and hopefully it will help when you’re dealing with a bad boss, a bad coworker, or a toxic environment. • For young engineers; look for experience. You are only as valuable as the value you can give. If you can, work while you’re in school. It is better to graduate with an extra year and have work experience than to graduate without experience. • Learn. Learn as much as you can. My official name is now Joseph Omole, M.S
