This woman has a bad case. You didn’t try to prove your innocence from the beginning rather, you were fighting for your property not to be seized. Is Adenuga the court or is he the EFCC that took you to court. After God, fear women.

Business / Fatai Ganiyu Abass: I Have New Lease Of Life- Visually-Impaired Glo Promo Winner by toyosilawal12: 1:19pm On Dec 07, 2019
Fatai Ganiyu Abass was more than self-sufficient, practising as an auto-electrician and moonlighting as a Fuji musician. The future looked rosy for him until tragedy struck a couple of years back.

He developed problems with his eyes and eventually lost sight in both eyes. His world seemed to fall apart. Without his eyes, his means of livelihood literally dissolved like ice cubes in the sun. He could only move around with the assistance of his 10-year old son, Abdulateef. The job of fending for the family fell on the laps of his wife, a petty trader.

According to Abass, depression was setting in, but he kept consoling himself that things would take another turn for the better for him.

Sure enough, one day, he was sitting in his house when he received a call from Globacom customer care representatives informing him that he had won a grinding mill in the ongoing Glo Recharge and Win Big Promo also called My Own Don Beta.

He initially thought it was a prank or a case of wrong number. But when he showed up at Glo Office in Jos and the news was confirmed to him, he regained his old effervescent self.

“I have got a new lease of life. With this grinding mill that Globacom has given me, my family has a new stream of income. My wife will add it to her petty trading. At the very least the cost of buying drugs for my eye condition will be taken care of,” he said.

At the prize handover ceremony to prize winners in Toro community, Bauchi State on Friday, a grateful Abass rendered a Fuji song he composed to show gratitude to Globacom for a gift that he said would transform his family.

At the ceremony, graced by the traditional chief of the region, Hardon Toro, Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa, Nollywood comic, Saeed Mohammed and other dignitaries, five other winners were given their prizes.

Thairu Abubakar, a business man and Onyekwelu Chinenye Doris, a UNN Accountancy graduate received a tricycle each. Fatima Kabir a Youth Corper and her husband, Murtala Kabir, showed up to collect an industrial sewing machine, which the wife said she would use to further her ambition to sow wedding gowns.

Abdusalam Musa Mamman also collected a grinding mill, while Abdulfatai Shittu, collected an electricity generator at the community presentation at Toro, Bauchi State on Friday.

Some 50 winners had been presented their prizes at the Jos Terminus Market the previous Monday. In all, over 700 winners had won tricycles, industrial sewing machines, grinding mills and generators. Globacom subscribers need to recharge their lines with a minimum of N200 to stand a chance of winning a prize in the promo.

Politics / 3 Things To Know About The Proposed Social Media Regulation Bill by toyosilawal12: 6:05pm On Nov 14, 2019
Nigerians have expressed their outrage by a proposed bill by the Nigerian senate to regulate the use of social media by its citizens.

The bill, ‘Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulations Bill, 2019’ was introduced on Tuesday, November 5 and according to the sponsor of the legislation, it will curb fake news on the internet.

As mixed reactions trail its re-introdution, here are three things you should know about the controversial bill.

Penalties
Senator Mohammed Sani Musa who proposed the bill tells Premium Times,

“If anyone is caught with this kind of situation, you cough out between N150,000 to a maximum imprisonment of three years or both. And if it is a corporate organisation that refused to block that false information despite the fact that they have been alerted by authorities not to disseminate that information for public interest and they still go ahead to do it, refusing to do that blockage will be penalised between N5 million to N10 million for those organisations.

“For example, MTN, Glo, 9 mobile etc. which we use their platform in transmitting these information, if nothing is done, we fine them and you will see that it will be deterrence to others,” the lawmaker said.

Needed Remedy or Abuse of Rights

Civil society groups have lamented that should the proposed bill be passed into law, it will set back all the progress Nigeria has made in its fight for the protection of human rights, especially the freedom of expression. When the 2015 bill was proposed, Nigerians used the #NoToSocialMediaBill to oppose the proposed law.

While passing a bill to fight misinformation is not the problem, there is the fear that the Nigerian government could misuse the law.

Business / Re: Why French President Honored Mike Adenuga With Highest Honor by toyosilawal12: 11:38am On Aug 13, 2018
Quality is never an accident, it is always the result of intelligent effort. Adenuga was awarded the highest French awards because of his relentless effort and support to building the French edifice. He truly deserves it.
bluecircle470:
Nigerians started seeing full page color adverts in national dailies commending Glo boss Chief Mike Adenuga for being honored with the French distinguished medal by President Emmanuel Macron during his recent state visit. However, many did not know for what reason.

Mike Adenuga Newsmakers gathered from reliable sources that the Globacom boss got the highest French honor of commander of the Legion of Honor for rebuilding the French Cultural Center otherwise known as Alliance De Francaise on Alfred Rewane Road Ikoyi Lagos all by himself.

The idea of the rebuilding of the French edifice which acted as a receptacle for French cultural activities and relationships with Nigeria was said to have been muted by Adenuga’s daughter Mrs. Bella Disu whose relationship with France has been on for a long time.

Insiders say Bella sought the support of her generous dad who agreed to foot the bill of the reconstruction effort.

She is also said to have supervised and coordinated the reconstruction work of the edifice commissioned by French President in the presence of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and other distinguished Nigerians.

Chief Michael Adeniyi Agbolade Ishola Adenuga Jr, GCON is a Nigerian billionaire businessman described as the second-richest person in Nigeria. His company Globacom is Nigeria’s second-largest telecom operator, and has a presence in Ghana and Benin Republic.

At the commissioning, Macron described Adenuga as a “role model for Africa”.
