^^i meant insecurities about skin colour. not so prevalent among yorubas but more of a problem for the ones raised overseas. |
^^the insecurities you noticed are more prevalent in the diasporan nigerians. |
^^effects of schooling overseas. |
Most people go through these feelings at some point in their life. Some overcome, others fall to the wayside.
what feelings? ![]() |
Vide:yes, but its not about what's important to me. its what you and your fiancee consider important- such as the things you listed above. everyone has different interests. For some, its sex alone while for others the list is longer. |
Not at all, being light skined and good looking is an advantage,it stands you out from the crowd,it can open doors for you, especially when you have a good head on your shoulder. My grandfather told me that they did it because they wanted to have outstanding daughters, who would in turn marry influential members of the clan.my own na none of the above. cant relate at all especially since i'm not igbo. |
I think the light skin issue depends on the family,my family loves light skin a lot, right from the days of my great great granfather, male members are adviced to marry a light skined and beautiful wife, there is always an unspoken sadness, when someone marries a dark or brown skined wife, even the girls are praised when they marry a light and skined handsome person, when a family member sees a light skined and beautiful girl child,he runs back home to report to the umunna, who in turn visits the girls parents to ask for the child's hand in marrage, the umunna then presents one of its male members as the suitor. This was the practice long time ago,it is no longer practiced, but because of it,we have a lot of really light skined people in my family and less brown/dark people.oh wow. no wonder i could never get an igbo suitor. too dark or is it too black. |
if yorubas call someone omo ibo that's not a compliment o. unless you're actually igbo. |
whatever's important to you both. |
. |
first time i'm hearing about dealfish btw. so they want to buy nl as well? ![]() |
i think seun should take some photoshoots with ty bello, to increase his site marketability. wouldnt hurt anyway. and why is he so private, unlike mark zuckerberg of facebook. by now shouldnt nlers know more about him. Any wives, girlfriends, etc. |
synopses? ![]() |
^^you obviously missed the lukumi thread. |
what dialect of yoruba is spoken in benin republic? ![]() couldnt find anything online though i'll continue searching. |
something's fishy about the man. |
i meant ike and tina. |
^^the child's names are chosen by the parents, not necessarily the minister. the man is just saying he considers his wife's culture and beliefs unimportant. |
the yoruba in those videos is the standard one though. what's their own dialect? ![]() |
and what's wrong with the baby receiving blessings and gifts from well wishers which i believe is the point of the naming ceremony? ![]() |
ezeagu:if all of the southsouth [ijaws] and the whole of the southeast joined together, it would lead to an increase in the dark skinned population in that region. |
re: the gej reference if you keep mixing ijaw with igbo you'll get confused. |
^^its a general thing. for example, you're insisting igbos tend to not be as dark skinned as the yorubas when in actual fact many igbos are very dark. the very dark ones simply do not show up in the general consciousness, that's all. |
ezeagu:^^in the society. fairer skinned meaning not only bright yellow but medium brown. among yorubas, the darker the better. in a general setting. |
i think among igbos, people with fairer skins are more advantaged whereas in yorubaland, its the opposite. doesnt mean light skinned people dont have their own strengths though. |
So ekiti and ondo people are no longer yoruba again or what since they have ibo DNA in them ?
and where did you see igbo dna in ekiti and ondo people? ![]() for your information, ogun state has more yoruba/igbo unions than any other state in yorubaland. and please dont feed me any silly stories about absorbing whoever. people have long memories and it's not that easy to get lost among the yoruba because even if you're yoruba and your great grandfather was from elsewhere in yorubaland, they'll let you know. |
ezeagu:not really. |
Sun of god:yeah, whatever. |
afam4eva:every part of yorubaland has dark skin and white teeth. |
those dark skins are from the pleasure of Yoruba menlaughing my butt off!! |
most yoruba males, no matter how loose, are very particular about their children's looks. the relatives too. so any child he has, who doesnt look like him, would have been carefully investigated as soon as the child's features are formed. because that's a sign the mother played away matches. yoruba no dey joke with that kind of thing. how do you think yorubas have maintained their features for so long even when most of yall are going on about blah blah blah . too dark, too this , too that etc etc. |
