Phones / Internet Outage To Last For 3 Weeks, As Glo 1 Remains Unaffected by trendsgirl: 11:06pm On Mar 16
Internet outage to last for weeks, as Glo 1 remains unaffected

The internet outage which hit Nigeria and some other African countries may persist for up to five weeks, according to latest reports.

One of the undersea cable companies affected by the service disruptions, MainOne, said in a statement on Friday evening that the situation might persist for two to three weeks for the problem to be fixed.

It explained that investigations revealed that the fault came from an external incident that resulted in a cut on the submarine cable system in the ocean.

MainOne said the rectification of the fault involves identifying and assigning a vessel to "retrieve the necessary spares required for repair, and then sail to the fault location to conduct the repair work. This process might take one to two weeks for repairs while about two to three weeks of transit time may be required for the vessel to pick up the spares and travel from Europe to West Africa once the vessel is mobilised".

The country has experienced widespread internet disruptions as a result of damage to the international underwater cables that provide the nation with connection. The outage has impacted banks and telecommunications organizations that depend on the impacted cables for internet services.

Major undersea cables close to Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, are reportedly damaged, and this has caused internet outages in West and South African nations. The West Africa Cable System (WACS), the Africa Coast to Europe (ACE), MainOne, and SAT3 are the undersea cables that have been impacted.

Glo 1, which is owned by Globacom, the largest provider of digital services in Nigeria, was untouched by the damage and is still running as usual. Glo 1-powered financial institutions, internet service providers, and data consumers have all carried on with business as usual. Industry observers are of the view that Glo 1 International Submarine Cable's resilient construction and durability are the reasons the damage did not compromise the cable.

Just when you think you've seen it all, MTN vs Globacom happens. Unacceptable behavior from MTN.

jimiabdul:
From a whopping Sum of N7.05bn to N2.3bn, How GLOBACOM Resisted Corporate Bullying by MTN

The raging disagreements between Nigerian owned telecoms giant, GLOBACOM, and the near-monopolistic South African behemoth, MTN, seems to have reached a crescendo.

According to impeccable industry sources, MTN had tried to intimidate and blackmail GLOBACOM on its own soil but the telecoms company stood its ground by challenging MTN to prove whatever case it had instead of engaging in cheap blackmail.

It turned out to be a fight worth fighting. From experience, GLOBACOM was used to being harassed by those who failed to realise that its promoters built its business conglomerates in an organic fashion and never through the surreptitious processes.

MTN had slammed a whopping sum of over N7.05 billion on GLOBABOM, covering interconnect charges of N1.6 billion (which was already paid before the controversial publication), VAT of N1.7 billion allegedly paid on behalf of GLOBACOM, and a compounded interest of N3.6 billion, which GLOBACOM considered preposterous since it is the absolute prerogative of companies to pay its own interests and never through proxies. Thus it was bizarre that MTN paid VAT on its behalf when it was already an established fact that GLOBACOM met all its obligations to FIRS.

In view of this painstaking reconciliation, MTN can now go ahead to call up the First Bank payment guarantee dated 17th January 2024. This shall represent the full and final payment.

GLOBACOM insists that MTN should never have been pampered to the extent that it wields the power of life and death over home grown competitors. According to checks on MTN operations elsewhere, this is the same modus operandi that led to several major telecoms companies collapsing and fleeing from Ghana.
Politics / Re: Reno Blames Nigeria's Economic Downturn On Nigerians Inability To Patronize GLO by trendsgirl: 12:45pm On Oct 21, 2023
fortunez1:

All na hustle at least his still paying his bills.
But seriously he has point although poor illustration, if other Nigerian investors can team up and invest competitively against the MTN , Airtel etc it will help reduce the pressure on Naira.
The falling of naira is our problem and we contributed by patronizing foreign wares and products excessively, we are buying things that we can grow in gardens e.g pepper, onion, spinach , vegetables etc
If we stop buying all this thing's the farmers can export them , there by strengthen the naira locally.
Schools and Churches should start bringing backs farms , all this real estate companies in the cities and urban areas should start having small farms and use fruit trees as there beautification.
If we stop buying too much from the market, the farmers will have enough to export and earn foreign exchange . It will reduce the pressure on Men and families expenses.

I agree with you. If we start buying things locally, the naira would begin to regain value. We should encourage each other to start patronizing local business and at the same time, they should also make sure their products/services meet the standards.
Art, Graphics & Video / FG, Edo Unveil New Pavilion Building Designs For Edo Museum by trendsgirl: 10:57am On Jun 26, 2021
The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has announced plans to accelerate development of the eagerly-awaited Edo Museum of West African Art (EMOWAA).

At a retreat organised by the National Commission for Museums and Monuments that held in Benin City, the Governor revealed that the construction of an early-phase building called the EMOWAA Pavilion, will commence before the end of the year.

The creation of this first facility within the larger museum complex of buildings and grounds will enable EMOWAA to match the ever-increasing momentum of an international movement for the return of Benin artefacts and restoration of the cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Benin.

In a joint announcement with the Nigerian National Commission for Museums and Monuments and Legacy Restoration Trust (LRT), (the independent, non-profit organization charged with building and managing the museum), Governor Obaseki displayed the initial Pavilion designs, rendered by globally renowned architect, Sir David Adjaye.

In his presentation, the Governor highlighted features of the EMOWAA Pavilion such as secure, state-of-the-art facilities for functions including conservation, study, exhibition, and public programming, as historic artworks of the Kingdom of Benin are restituted from the institutions where they are now held across the world.

Governor Obaseki also announced that the EMOWAA Pavilion, and the museum complex as a whole, will be situated within an emerging Benin City Cultural District, as part of a wider Benin City Masterplan that has been commissioned by the state.

According to the him, “The integration of EMOWAA into the daily life of our people, and its impact on a greatly improved urban fabric, will begin with the opening of the EMOWAA Pavilion. In his well-thought-out design, Sir David Adjaye has served all the requirements of the still-developing Museum and at the same time created a place that will welcome and embrace all members of the public.

“The EMOWAA Pavilion will be an important and integral part of the EMOWAA complex, which will be situated in what was the heart of the historic Royal Palace grounds in Benin City before the British Invasion in 1897.”

In his reaction to the newly unveiled development, the Director General of the Nigerian National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Professor Abba Isa Tijani, said, “The ever-increasing pace of agreements to restitute the cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Benin, and the cooperation now being extended to Nigeria by institutions in Europe and North America, have encouraged us to begin creating EMOWAA with this important first phase of construction. The Federal Government of Nigeria is committed to EMOWAA and the Legacy Restoration Trust as a transparent, innovative way of attracting investment into the arts and culture infrastructure in Nigeria. As revealed in Sir David Adjaye’s magnificently sensitive and dignified plans, the EMOWAA Pavilion will enable the museum to begin fulfilling its mission as needed, in the very near future.”

Phillip Ihenacho, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Legacy Restoration Trust, expressed his gratitude to renowned architect, Sir David Adjaye for envisioning a first-phase facility that is complete in every way and at the same time is achievable on the organisations’ timetable. He emphasised that “the EMOWAA will be ready to provide a secure, environmentally controlled facility for artworks and artifacts by the end of next year.” In describing the world-class edifice, Ihenacho explained that the EMOWAA Pavilion was conceived as a highly sustainable, efficient single-story building comprised predominantly of locally sourced rammed earth. “The EMOWAA Pavilion will house an exhibition gallery with views into the secure, climate-conditioned storage and collection study area, an auditorium with seating for 180 persons, conference rooms, conservation laboratories, and a library. The landscaped grounds outside the building will include an informal public gathering place and a museum facility for outdoor programs”, he concluded.

In the near term, the EMOWAA Pavilion will provide a state-of-the-art secure facility for restituted objects and archaeological finds, a project center for the archaeological work currently in progress on and around the EMOWAA site in Benin City, laboratories for studying artifacts unearthed during the archaeological excavations, a visitor center for engaging the local community and stakeholders, and interim offices for EMOWAA staff.

In the long term, after EMOWAA is complete, the EMOWAA Pavilion will be a base for ongoing archaeological research, a hub for training in archaeology, conservation, heritage studies, and museology, and a storage and conservation center for the objects held by EMOWAA.

Car Talk / Re: Automatic Gearbox Problems by trendsgirl: 11:56am On Dec 16, 2020
After my corolla sport, 06, was robbed of its brainbox and some other parts, I replaced all stolen parts and drove it for about 3 weeks without any complaints.

But recently, I started having issue with the gear selection.

When on reverse, it makes some hissing sound and when you change gear, it jacks - - even when it changes gear on the motion.

I was thinking it was the brainbox, but when I checked with a rewire and he ran a test on the car with a tool, the error was not brainbox.

We got Pressure Control Solenoid ‘D’ Electrical error.

He suggested that we service the gear - changed filter and buy new oil.

But despite this, the problem still persists.

I consulted a gear mechanic, he said the problem is fibre.

I am confused. Is it that solenoid is also fibre or the problems are different?

Please advice! Car gurus and car doctor

HERE IS THE FACT!

GlO is currently the second largest telecommunications operator, next to MTN, and MTN may be afraid that its recent woes, including imposition of a series of fines on account of SIM card registration infractions, among others, might make it possible for an unhindered Globacom to catch up with it at its current rate of growth.

Adenuga the greatest. You do well sir. More power to your elbow!!!
bluecircle470:
Nigerians started seeing full page color adverts in national dailies commending Glo boss Chief Mike Adenuga for being honored with the French distinguished medal by President Emmanuel Macron during his recent state visit. However, many did not know for what reason.

Mike Adenuga Newsmakers gathered from reliable sources that the Globacom boss got the highest French honor of commander of the Legion of Honor for rebuilding the French Cultural Center otherwise known as Alliance De Francaise on Alfred Rewane Road Ikoyi Lagos all by himself.

The idea of the rebuilding of the French edifice which acted as a receptacle for French cultural activities and relationships with Nigeria was said to have been muted by Adenuga’s daughter Mrs. Bella Disu whose relationship with France has been on for a long time.

Insiders say Bella sought the support of her generous dad who agreed to foot the bill of the reconstruction effort.

She is also said to have supervised and coordinated the reconstruction work of the edifice commissioned by French President in the presence of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and other distinguished Nigerians.

Chief Michael Adeniyi Agbolade Ishola Adenuga Jr, GCON is a Nigerian billionaire businessman described as the second-richest person in Nigeria. His company Globacom is Nigeria’s second-largest telecom operator, and has a presence in Ghana and Benin Republic.

At the commissioning, Macron described Adenuga as a “role model for Africa”.
