Technology Market › Re: Alabaconnect Is A Dubious Tv Seller!! by Trippledots(op): 6:32pm On Mar 26, 2023
On the 18th of January, I saw a tv he posted on his WhatsApp status and it appealed to me. Luckily I was around the vicinity of his shop so I found my way down there to pick it. When I got there, I saw other TV's, selected one and we bargained and I paid #190k to him and took it home.

By the time I got the TV hooked up, because I needed to fix the hanger I noticed that after some few hours of watching it the TV will just go off, come on go off again and come back on. This happens randomly so it was hatd to oick on camera to show him. By the next day I informed him about it, he started giving me different procedure to do like resetting it to factory mode, etc that was when I saw the model of the TV that it was for a 49in curved. I asked him why is the model for a curved TV and even sent him the link of the review online. This guy said IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL.

Anyway, he later sent someone on the 19th to come pick it up and brought a replacement on the 20th.
Technology Market › Alabaconnect Is A Dubious Tv Seller!! by Trippledots(op):
Hello Nairaland,
This is a call out to ALABACONNECT, a TV seller on here that sold a defective TV which got bad the very next day. He agreed to pick and replace, he picked another unit and sent over and that one aswell started misbehaving. He sent a dispatcher which I agreed to pay for the weigh-bill.

After days of one excuse or the other he said that there was a repairer repairing the set, he came back to tell me that they said the chip didn't work but the only solution is to change the screen which will cost #150k and I should be ready to share the cost with him. Note that I found out in the course of taking suggestions from him to reset the first TV that the TV has been tampered with but sold as direct UK used....the internal model number was for a 49in curved TV manifesting in a 50in flat screen.

It might be a long read but bear with me.

A Thread.

Dear Nairanlanders,
Thank you very much for justly looking into this issue between ALABACONNECT and I. I have received calls from some well meaning persons here as well as read the suggestions of others on here either for a full refund, a replacement TV from him, splitting the payment for a replacement screen or partial refund.

While I can drag this case to any level to get my full refund, I like to be mature about certain things and also cut my losses and move on. I DON'T, i repeat I DON'T TRUST ANYTHING HE SENDS TO ME AGAIN. I don't want any Tv from him wether replacement screen with shared cost or replacement TV.....I don't like stress.

I will in good fate accept 80% refund of my 190k which amounts to #152k paid at once, not in bits else the money will be wasted, and leave him to karma to either vindicate or vilify.

All I ever wanted was a good TV I can come to and watch once in a while or have others enjoy, not this stress that is threatening my blood pressure.

Thanks.

I await his response here.

Hello bro. I noticed you said you are an installer for inverter.

Please what would be the cost of setting up one for theses appliances

One lg flat screen tv
2 standing fans
One MacBook laptop 85w
One inverter A/C 1.5hp
4 corner lights. Those that use to have 3 colors

For a duration of 12hrs

I’m sorry about your TV ordeal. I guess you were just unlucky. I bought my TV at Alaba too. Had a few issues but I fixed them myself as I’m technologically inclined and it’s fine up till now. I hope you can find a resolution.
Thanks my brother. Kindly dm me via my signature, we can talke later. This whole TV issue is giving me a bad day already.

I wanted to message you privately before I saw this your comment. I only support the full refund if the there is a mismatch in the model number but now you have said it’s for the first TV and not the second one. I believe we can all come to a just decision but the truth is that you will have to bear the loss the most. It’s unfavorable but that’s just business. You win most and lose some.
The things is this. Ever since the first TV I got started having issues, I should have opted for a full refund right? After all it's obvious the insides is different from the chassis which he knew but never told me until I found out while trying different advice from him to reset the TV etc.

I still gave him the benefit of the doubt and recieved another TV from him, I was not there to select or pick, he picked and sent. This second TV now develops another fault withnin a week or two! So how am I supposed to trust whatever he sells or replaces?... Even at that, I still agreed to have him fix the TV and send back with 4months warranty which he reduced to 3months... I still accept. Now that he can't fix an obviously reworked TV he wants to share the cost of screwn replacement which he said is 150k!!

I have lost confidence in his words or business ethics and would want a full refund.. I am also into business as an invertee installer thats why I was patient with him all through till he ran to NL to cry, hoping he can twist the story to his favour first.

I have two LG TVs. They are on ups but the ups battery has not been replaced. No stabiliser, no surge arrester. And they have had no issues for the past 4 years.

I am always wary of buying TVs from alaba first and foremost because the TV will not be moved in original Styrofoam packaging that absorbs shocks. You cannot guarantee that vibrations or bumps will not rattle components in the TV when you drive it. Those selling it know this.

Also some TVs come with faults that are inexpertly fixed. Whether this is deliberate or laziness, I can't say. I know for instance that most issues with TVs seem to come down to blown capacitors that can be replaced. But what quality of capacitor is the seller using? One that will blow at the smallest power issue, prompting additional charges?
Exactly. Inverter technology which is adopted for UPS, inverters, inverter generators, hybrid inverters, grid tie inverters etc gives regulated 220-230v steady. Although this technology is divided into modified sine wave and puresine wave, most UPS and cheaper, low capacity inverters use the modified sinewave while bigger capacity and generally more expensive ones use the puresinewave type which closely mirrors grid output but without the voltage dips and surges..... So if your UPS can give you up to 4 years of aervice life from your TV, why should a puresine wave inverter spoil two TVs within two months? I don't have an ATS that switches to nepa because I am always on solar and it is big enough to provide my well managed power needs both day and night.

This guu sold me a defective TV abinitio, and I'm not interested in any of his items anymore. I just want my full refund.

Bro, i dont think this is fair on the buyer at all at all.

Take the time out to search for and read the fraud thread about Sommydisaster (another seller of tokunbo TVs), also read the testimonies from other people there, you will see that there is clearly a pattern and probable intent to these issues.

Again, there are inconsistencies with the software version written of the TV and manufacturer website (49" ) and what it is sold as (50" ), strongly suggesting a rework, follow-come defect or persistent underlining issue. We all know the kind of underhanded manipulations that go on at Alaba International. This is not a coincidence.

Also, if you understand the working mechanism of an inverter, you will understand that a pure sinewave delivers a very clean electricity wave and a 3kva inverter is large enough to carry normal home appliances without having to trip off while working or being connected. I use an inverter too so I speak out of direct experience. I am more at ease using my TV on my inverter than using it on Nepa light.

If Alabaconnect is not forthcoming with refunding the buyer's money in full, then he should replace the screen at his own full cost and give warranty on the screen. It is very wrong for him to compel the buyer to contribute money to repair the screen of a TV he has gotten zero value for money from. Would you agree to same if it was you?
Exactly!

Personally, Anything Tokunbo TV from Alaba, Same thing with Tokunbo Phones from Computer Village. Too many Evils going on in those two Places. I have had Horrible Experiences most especially at that Computer Village. Some people are very Heartless.

I won't Near these two Places with a long feet Pole no matter how sweet the deal Is. Except I am directly shipping It myself or through a very trusted relative. Some of those TVs have been Opened and Worked on at Alaba, Same thing goes with the Phones. It's just like all those Tokunbo Motors where you will hear Non-Accidented, Clean Title etc.

Then What sometimes surprises me Is that, As an Individual, If you can afford to buy a Used Tv for 200k+. Why don't you Close eyes to buy a New One even If it cost X2. Doing that will make you have Peace of mind. I understand the Tokunbo TVs are High Standard Grade TVs. But does one know the History of the TV?

I can buy Tokunbo of other Appliances like Fridge, AC etc without getting too worried but TV? Nah. To each its own.

The story is getting too long. He should Refund you without delay.
Honestly, I am regretting my action. I know the funds isn't too available, but then it's the lure of a better quality TV that made me opt to go for used item, because as an electrical engineer myself I can appreciate the difference in quality build from TVs made for Nigerian market and the supposedlt solid foreign ones....

Thank you
Hi, good morning. Those holes were from the former tenant of my apartment. ALABACONNECT's TV is the first I'm using because I've been using my projector before deciding to get a TV.

I'm not judging but if I'm to go by ur write-up and what I could get from the internet regarding this issue, I'll say the fault is actually from his end.

The truth is that, even if u repair the tv and the underlying problem is still there ( from his end ), then he'll surely come back with the same complain.

I'll suggest the buyer should calm down ( if he's seeing this ). He should take ur option and call his technicians to figure where the problem is coming from.
I use a surge limiter, which I showed him. My inverter is a puresine wave 3kw unit and I'm an installer and he was even interested in installing in his shop when I told him I install. The same socket powers my DStv, sound system and projector as i said earlier.

looks like electromagnetic interference.

Are some electrical appliances close to the tv? If yes, what type of appliances. If no, then it's not EMI.

But I need to know, how long did it take for u to notice the lines? Was the tv tested by u at all in the beginning?

Sorry for my questions.
No issue, your questions are welcome.

A. The only devices close to the TV spot are my DStv decoder and LED projector, which I have been using before his TV entered my house and after his TV left. All of them working fine till now. It's not EMI, I have a little knowledge of waves.

B. The first TV was on at his shop, but it wasn't on for so long maybe 30mins max since we were changing from one TV to the other as I was trying to select one. He had one stand that he would remove the TV and mount another to test.... The second TV that had lines started maybe like aftee a week. It first started like a small jittering of the screen, so i shrugged it off simply because I didn't want to be raising false alarm. Note that we can go a week without watching TV in my house.

Edit: i just snapped the wall just now, and the guus who came to pick up the TV's twice can confirm.

How long did u used the first tv before u noticed it? How long did u used the second tv before u noticed too?

Finally, did the second tv shared the same problem with the first before getting the horizontal lines or it had the horizontal lines from the beginning?
A. It started that same day when i got back home from work to watch it. By the next day I had to report it to the seller.

B. No, it didn't. I rarely watch TV because of my work so i noticed it like a week after he sent it, so it won't be like I'm complaining too much I decided to observe it for some days before I had to inform him. He brought the replacement on 20th and the person he sent hanged it, i informed him about the TV issue about 25th of February. So it started in between... I don't watch TV always, infact it was the election period that made me tuen on the TV to use and found the issue unbearable.

Edit: he brought replacement 20th of January.

Normally, TVs flicker at a fast rate than our eyes can see, when the flicker is apparent, it could be a connection problem, but when the flickering leads to a broken part of the TV, then it's surely a power problem. This, I'm very sure of.

@Alabaconnect, could u shed more light on the TV u sold to trippledots? Was it really a tampered set cos u said it's an open box.

@Trippledots, I don't want to believe two different TVs will have the same problem, and if Alabaconnect is truthful about the first TV working fine right now, I want to believe the fault is from ur end, especially if many appliances are on the inverter.

TVs are delicate appliance that needs constant flow of power and if the flow is unstable, it'll affect the tv.
Thanks for you input.

The two TVs had different problems. The first one would just turn off randomly and turn back on, twice in quick succession... The second one was having some dancing horizontal lines that started small then later the whole screen was affected. Let me see if i can take a screenshot of the a video clip of the second TV fault.

Edit:see attached progressive deterioration of the problem

When I say a set is Open-box, it means it was either barely used and not used at all. Though they don't always come in their factory cartons, they are shipped with or without their accessories. What we take most into consideration during container selection are the model and the series. NU is 2018 while RU is 2019. A model with RU7300 is 2019 series 7. The only time we take the other numbers into consideration is when it starts with 4 like RU7400 which indicates it can allow for some QLED functions. Honestly, the number has nothing to do with this current situation at hand.
