So I'll advise you see a laptop technician for diagnosis.

In my case, the screen does not go blank initially. Then goes blank before it gets to "windows", after that it is only keyboard that would be on. I haven't been able to take it to a technician, because the last one just looked at the system and claimed it was screen. I feel it has to do with software updates, because it always shows without any glitch then goes blank after loading for a while.

The property is from inheritance. It wasn't acquired by her. The mum's family can create problems for the dad to stall any action/sale even if they eventually lose.

@OP should contact lawyers who specialise in dealing with Family Court matters for good advice. Pray that they don't collude with your dad or try to dupe you.

If you're in Lagos, you can also go for arbitration/mediation to avoid long court processes.

False premise. First a husband (or wife) does not automatically become a next of kin. It has to be specifically written down. Besides there is no universal next of kin. There are next of kin for various purposes. When opening your ban account, you could fill your husband as your next of kin. When getting a new employment, you could fill your mother as your next of kin.

Secondly, a will supercedes any next of kin.

There's no will here, and the next of kin where there's a legal marriage is the spouse.

If you don't want your father to exhibit any property you legally inherited from your mother, contact a competent lawyer. He will first issue a cease and desist letter to your father and if he does not obey, institute legal proceedings. But then, you should be prepared for the backlash from him and his side of the family. They will first blackmail you and then disown you.
