Another example, this guy is a billionaire and this article reports he has secured funding to buy Arsenal. Billionaires don't keep their met worth in cash just sitting in bank, they have it always invested in companies and use their assets as collateral to secure funding for more investments.

I see you're already in the Canada student visa forum so bet to go through to read about people's experience and ask questions specific to student visas.

It is not easy in the sense that a significant proportion of Canadian student visa applications from Nigeria are refused compared to say UK student visa.

The fact you are supposedly being sponsored by someone you met online raises lots of red flags and to me the first question you should focus on is if the guy is ready to pay you tuition and all fees? Without that none of this matters unless you can get the funding from somewhere else.

Well that’s the first step, you then need to get admission and apply for the visa and convince the immigration officer that you’re coming as a true student and that they believe the guy will truly sponsor you.

Yes it can work if you meet the requirements and are able to afford the fees or if the guy will pay for you.

Correct me if I am wrong but it looks like you struck a relationship with someone online who you don't know that well, expressed your frustration with Nigeria and he is willing to help if he can but not to the level of paying thousands of dollars.

The average American, Brit, Canadian etc. have no clue about how immigration works and he probably thinks all he has to do is say he supports you and viola you get visa, unfortunately it takes a lot more than that. He will need to show he can and is willing to sponsor you, share his financial details etc. and pay the fees. Is your relationship with him to that level?

Chief you are better off enrolling for service. If the guys is really ready to sponsor you it will take a while and will involve immigration lawyers as others have said and even that is not sure.

From what I'm reading you asked the guy to sponsor you and he said yes without understanding what it takes. I doubt the guy is ready to spend the money required as it probably was just an informal chat to help if he can thinking you just submit form and letter and that's it.

At a minimum he must be ready to demonstrate why he wants to hire you and why he is unable to find someone in Canada to do the job. Given you are just an undergraduate with no experience it will be very hard to convince immigration that you have skills that he cannot find in Canada.

Ideally I will agree with you but poster should take into consideration that thigs are changing following the UKs exit from the EU as they are now moving towards a point based system like Canada. Previously we were at the bottom of the barrel given Eu citizens from 20+ countries had free movement and priority.

Look into the innovator visa which requires a 50,000 GBP investment. It's fairly new so it's hard to say how easy it is to get but I know someone who tried and has not been able to progress past the first stage of getting an endorsement letter from one of the endorsement bodies.

Using gdp per capita can be deceiving because a lot of people who work in Luxembourg and contribute to the gdp tend to commute from neighboring countries like a Germany, Belgium, Austria etc due to the high cost of living in Luxembourg. The gdp per capita formula calculates based on only those residing in Luxembourg.

Secondly Luxembourg is very very expensive and the average income is about €45k. Trust me that doesn’t go that far in a country like Luxembourg hence why you don’t see people go there to hassle like they would in the UK or US.

Not saying you shouldn’t go or you can’t make it work but just a word of caution to tamper your expectations and not expect to make money similar to the gdp per capita. Also not sure what your status will be life will be very hard in Luxembourg as an illegal immigrant

Nigeria was never unlisted from the lottery program, the law has always been that any country that’s sends more than 50k permanent residents to the UK over the past 5 years will not be eligible so the only way for Nigeria to become eligible again is for fewer Nigerians to be granted permanent residence via family category. The reason is the program is to encourage diversity.

Even Biden can’t change that.

If you have lost your job, you are getting more than 100% the normal unemployment benefit ( e.g. Illinois normal is over $400 plus a top up of $600 a week) which is on average $4k a month. This is on par with the average income of Americans. So you are asking for an additional $2k on top of the $4k unemployment benefit? Really

The only people I support extra payment for are the essential workers who have to work in this crisis putting themselves at risk. That's it.
