I actually found both Paris and Rome to be overrated but it is good to visit at least once.
Paris was ok but not the romantic city I dreamed up.

Rome was just so hot dusty and crowded for me. I love the historic sites in Rome as I’m a history buff but there is no way to enjoy the historic sites in Rome with the crowd.

There are nicer cities in a France and Italy.

I agree it will have to be paid for one way or the other and governments will have to adopt some form of austerity in the future to pay it, but it is necessary now as the impact of a literal economic stoppage of economic activities can be devastating and will be worse if nothing is done.

Also many of the job losses are actually furloughs and many should be able to get back to work once things start to open up. Obviously some jobs and businesses will not recover but the expectation is majority should. If the lockdown goes on for too long then it is unsustainable.

I think the recovery will be quicker than 2008 given the cause and fundamentals, this is not comparable to 2008 to me. But as I said the longer the lockdown the higher the chance of a longer recession.

Both Republicans and Democrats have also started talking more about infrastructure spending. This is way overdue for the US and was required irrespective of the current crisis, so the timing makes sense to boost the economy after such a shock.

The $1,200 is one plus $500 per child. So a couple with 2 kids will get $3,400 one off.

In addition unemployment benefits has been increased by $600 a week so depending on the state people will get about $1000 a week e.g. Illinois has a max unemployment benefit of $471 a week which means a total of $1,071 a week with the Federal boost.

Some states like Minnesota have a max unemployment benefit of $700 a week which means they will get $1,300 a week.

I agree with you many do not appreciate what they are getting, however I will not necessarily consider this a protest with 200 people. The headline made it sound like the whole city was up in arms.

Ok, it makes sense. Same as in the US, the package was passed in a rush so it's understandable that it will not be perfect hence the need to make necessary updates for the people who are left out.

I think the guy should apply given his situation as the money will help till he gets a job but just prepare to pay back unless they pass an amendment to exclude the $5k.

The 5k criteria is giving a lot of people concern especially, those in the gig economy. I believe the government is planning some different type of benefit system for them this week or next.

Be careful to avoid future claw-backs. The requirement clearly says you must have lost your job due to the current situation and earned min $5k.

It is possible it is approved as they are most likely trying to get it out to people urgently, but have it in your mind that you may have to repay it in the future and prepare yourself. I don't know for sure, just saying to have it at the back of your mind just in case.

Not true, factories deemed essential are open e.g. many car makers are now making respirators, GM, Telsa etc.

Many companies are also making masks etc though they are still importing from their factories in China, but factories in the US where they can produce essential materials are still open. Pharmaceutical companies are working to find a vaccine as well, test kits etc.

Banks are still open as they are essential to the distribution of the stimulus loans and to assist people who are having issues paying their mortgage etc. I can go on and on. Airlines even through they have drastically cut passenger travel are essential to moving critical goods across the country and also to bring into the US from other countries.

Obviously where people can work from home they are, but some things they cannot e.g. you cannot produce a respirator from home, you need to be in the factory.

The issue is over the years many American companies have already moved a lot of their manufacturing to China due to low cost, this has come to bite them in the behind now.

I agree things could have been handled better but even with all his shortcomings, Trump was the first person to start restricting flights from China and took a lot of flak from the media, China, democrats, European countries etc. When he expanded it to cover European countries he was attacked again and only for the same European countries to implement restrictions of their own soon after.

When he restricted flights from China democrats like Pelosi started telling people to go to Chinatowns in support of Asians against the racist in the white house didn't they? Chicago Mayor did the same only to then turn around and say no no stay at home a few weeks after.

You are largely correct but to say it’s selfish I don’t agree as many other countries Germany France etc have also placed such restrictions.

The US has to be priority for American companies and then help others eg Trump has already said that with the commitments the US has for respirators they will send extra to countries like Italy who need them, but only after the US gets what it needs.

It's good to do some personal research.

3M is an American company with industries in different countries including China. This company is the major manufacturer of N95 masks in the world (N95 masks are the standard masks for frontline workers and are different from the regular surgical masks made in ABA).

US wants 3M to supply all the masks it manufactures in other countries like China to only US....... Trump believes 3M is an American company and should put America first which is quite selfish knowing that other countries are going through tough times too.

Trump even said that 3M shouldn't supply Canada and it's causing some issues....

I totally agree with you, in the desire for quick profits they have given up so much capability to China. Western companies focused on short term profits while China plays a very long game.

The masks in contention were made by an American company 3M. They produce in the US but as with any other companies also produce in China due to cost. Trump invoked the Defense Production act which mandates American companies to prioritize the US over others so while they were manufactured in China they were manufactured for/by an American company eg an iPhone being manufactured in China doesn’t make it a Chinese product, it’s still a US brand and company.

There were actuations 3M was focused on selling to the highest bidder rather than prioritizing the US.

I believe it’s way more than that. Many people do not express any symptoms, and many others will only show mild symptoms which in Nigeria will most likely be self medicated and not reported at all. The % of people who get to the stage of critical Illness or death is small compared to the number of infected.

I don’t watch any mainstream media as they are all biased and report lots of lies or partial truths, and this is both left and right.

I especially can’t stand CNN not just because of the Trump bashing but I don’t need to listen to the same thing 30 times in 1 hour to get it. Repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat, nah I can’t do that.

I noticed my anxiety dropped and I had peace of mind when I stopped watching the news and went about my daily business, and many many Americans have tuned off the news as well. In a country of over 300million, CNN can only boast of under 1m views, that is proof people are tired of all the constant barrage of so called instant news.

Have you noticed the trend where all the left leaning media will report news all quoting the same mysterious unnamed source? Or they will quote another media eg NY Times who’s story is based on an unnamed source which means none of them actually spoke to this source, but that doesn’t stop them blasting it as headline news in the desperate attempt to report quickly.

Does anybody know if the US is gonna enforce the 6month overstay rules in light of this COVID-19 pandemic as a lot of people are stuck in the US at the moment and can’t get back to Nigeria as airspace has been shut for all flights. I keep wondering if they made any provisions for this.
