I did not say it is a fake event, but you will agree with me a poorly run event can be used by people to get visas falsely cant it. I know many many Nigerians who have applied for visas claiming conference or exhibition and run. While it was run on the USC campus it was not run by USC but by the Black Alumni association so USC's reputation doesn't exactly cover this. I can hire a hall on USC campus that doesn't mean the reputation of USC guarantees my event is a good one. Also why is there no evidence of past events if this was successfully run as claimed? Even the organiser said in the past the visa denials were high and if at this point every single invitee was denied then I would rather ask questions around the legitimacy of the event and from what I see on the internet if I was a visa officer I would be suspect. I will like to see proof of past event and attendees, I will see like to see speakers, programs, topics etc., I will like to see photos of past events if as you claim it is run by such a prestigious university. Also we do not have any insight into what previous attendees to the events did when they go to the US so to conclude it is Trump is jumping the gun. Besides Trumps executive order is in plain English and clear, and aside that it is not effect anyway. Why is there only 1 woman involved with both sponsors of the event. Mary Flowers is the head of the consulting company and the head of the Black Alumni association, no one else involved. Really ??austinvsb1: |
I disagree, if as she says Africa is a hot bed of investment opportunities yes I expect investors if they are interested to move their fat asses. Many of the so called African businesses are small and cant afford the expenses to fly aboard and if an investor comes to Africa he has access to meet a lot more African businesses than they coming over. And even if they want to hold it in America which isn't bad the website is so poor and it is pretty much being organised by one woman Mary Flowers who works for the consulting company and heads the black alumni association at USC. No evidence of past events, no program of speakers and topics, no list of partners and expected investor attendees nothing at all. http://www.energynet.co.uk/event/powering-africa-summit-2017 Look at that link for the US Africa energy summit and DC and compare. all you have to do is copy and paste some text from the site to Google and you can see the source where it was copied from. The text on climate change is from the UN factsheet on climate change copy and pasted. The section on iRoko is from Forbes copy and paste. Please look at it from the visa officers view. For all US embassies in those African countries to deny all invitees don't you think the event has been blacklisted? austinvsb1: |
Your logic here is wrong because it was organised by Mary Flowers to help American companies recognise the investment opportunities in Africa. She is the head of the consulting company Global Green Development Group and also the head of the USC Black Alumni Association hence why only those 2 organisations are sponsoring it. if she truly wants to help American companies recognise investment opportunities in Africa why not take them to Africa which will be a lot cheaper and easier? They were probably refused the visa because the organisations don't seem to have much merit and also probably past attendees 40% of whom were refused ended up doing a runner or didn't even attend the summit at all. Go and look at the website below. Her objective is to help US companies see investment opportunities in Africa so why doesn't she take them to Africa where they can meet a lot more small businesses who cant afford to fly to America and who need investment? http://www.agedsummit.com/ This so called summit is supposed to be in it's 3rd or 4th year yet we can't see any photos videos reviews of past summits, attendees or speakers. We have no clue who is speaking at this event which was cancelled and it is for 3 days. See below website for another submit and see how they have a program with speakers and topics etc? Are you telling me you will really pay for a summit where you have no idea who is speaking or what topics they will be talking about? No idea what investors, companies etc. will be attending? Such events will put on their websites the companies they are expecting etc. to sell the event. http://www.ccausafricasummit.com/ And for all US embassies in all the African countries to deny all invites it must mean that summit has been blacklisted for previous visa abuse or there are concerns about the summit. The summit website is just one page, no links, nothing just one page. The text they have under climate change etc. is copy and paste from the UN publication on climate change. Then from climate change they talk about Iroko investment which is another copy and paste but no idea why as it has nothing to do with this summit. All they have done is just come up with random topics, copy and paste existing publications from Google and say summit. God knows how much they charged for this. I couldn't check because registration is closed. davidif: |
Chief you are still on your Trump is after Nigerians narrative? I saw this story a couple of days ago and I looked into it and I'm sorry the so called summit's story isn't straight. Look at the website, for a summit that claims to bring the big guys of business and finance, it's quite poor and really says nothing. No names, no agenda, no program etc. Besides it was not sponsored by University if Southern California as is being reported but by the Black Alumni Association. Big difference. http://www.agedsummit.com/ See below website for another US Africa summit and tell me the difference. You can see the names and pedigree of the speakers etc. http://www.ccausafricasummit.com/ How do we know how many of the so called 40% who got visas last time returned to their countries? I searched through the internet and can't find proper information or photos of past events as they claim. Sorry but in this case it looks like the embassy must believe people are just using the program to get visas and run so stop attributing it to Trump. Go to the student forum many Nigerians got visas, same as the visitor visa forum on nairaland. See link for another US Africa summit on energy and see how informative the site is. See the number of links on the webpage not just one page with copy and paste information. See photos on past events on the site, information on sponsors and partners. Now apply that same logic and look at this so called summit and out yourself in the shoes of the visa officer. http://www.energynet.co.uk/event/powering-africa-summit-2017 Think of it, all invitees for a summit from different African countries were refused. Doesn't that tell you the US officials probably have concerns about the summit rather than immediately jump on the conclusion its Trump against Nigerians or is it Africans now? See below a link to a previous African US summit with photos as evidence and where was it held? Addis Ababa in Africa not the US as that way you are able to reach out to many more Africans. http://allafrica.com/infocenter/AfricaBizSummit_2016/ They claim every year about 40% are not given visas didn't they. Please send me proof of any reputable summit where they are refused visas in such amounts because for such a summit which claims to bring politicians, business people and financiers together. I would expect top notch people from Nigerian business and politics attending right? davidif: |
Depends on the type of job you can get in Dubai. I don't think it's that easy to turn up on a 3 mo TH visit visa and secure a professional job with good pay. People I know who have similar professional high paying jobs either were transferred or head hunted from the UK. Before you resign make sure you will be able to get a good job not hussling. Maybe try applying directly for jobs where the company can also apply for a work permit for you if not you may end up resigning your job in Nigeria and not being able to secure something in Dubai. That wouldn't be a good position to be in. japhethGold: |
Why would a Nigerian baby need a visa? Wouldn't it be easier to get a passport from the Nigerian embassy? Hezadaz: |
As long as you can clearly and confidently explain why you changed your mind and show proof of what you are going to do in NY it should be fine. If I may ask why is she insistent in NY over Chicago? I would have thought Chicago actually offers a nicer and calmer holiday for honeymoon as opposed to the hectic bustle of NY. Obainofresh: |

Take time to read the executive order and the official documents and you will see there is nothing to fear if you are in a real relationship with nothing to hide. And aside the fact Nigeria was not included in the suspension, the new order explicitly states green card holders and those who already have visas will not be impacted. Given your husband will be getting citizenship soon you should be able to get a green card in 6-9 months. ijofy: |
Many of the African Americans who want to move to Africa are those especially from the inner city who haven't been able to get over the past history of slavery and racism and somehow believe moving back to motherland will give them a better life. Many a times they are sorely mistaken as I've spoken to some and I told one of he denounced his citizenship I would pay his ticket to Nigeria and let's see how he fares. I told him all this one you commit crime and go to jail with tv etc. In Nigeria Na Kiri Kiri get you if you don't get burnt in the streets with tire first. No food stamps, no section 8 housing etc that you take for granted here and still keep complaining because you fail to apply and develop yourself. I am not claiming America is perfect for the black man, but in today's America racism is not the biggest issue and can't hold you back. Lack of fathers resulting in kids with no direction , no discipline and no respect for authority is the biggest issue holding African Americans back. For me, I would take America over Canada any day. I know Canada gives benefits etc but I always strive to earn more than benefit thresholds even while in the UK and that is something I am proud of. In terms of career options, earning power etc Canada just doesn't hold up to the US, but if you are after a fairly low income steady life then maybe Canada would be better. I don't think Canada can sustain the liberal policies for too long and the more people flood there due to Trudeau's open policy the watered down those so called benefits will be. I work for one of the major consulting firms and once on a project with some Canadian team members they confirmed there is a massive difference in salary between the states and Canada for the same firm, and there is just a lot more scope for project variety and career options. I don't ever see myself trading the US for Canada. It will result in a massive drop in income and standard of living for me and less options. All this said that is my personal preference and not a US is better than Canada or via versa argument. This is a very relative decision based on your preference, expectations etc. RaptorX: |
How have you been? I do agree the inmigration officials may have been emboldened since trump came in but emboldened to do their job. I still have not see any proof Nigerians are targeted as Dabiri or some here are claiming. Even during and before Obama Nigerians as well other nationals have been turned back or pulled aside for further questions of deemed necessary and some of the cases people are putting up do not pass scrutiny in my opinion. Look at below post from someone who got turned back and he too will claim it's because of trump but his story in from of the border official doesn't even hold up. Dear VO I had a terrible experience in new York airport. I was refused entry. Reason been my relative address had changed from when I applied for the visa. I was supposed to stay for 13 days. The officer tried to contact the number and address on the form without success. My uncle had told me his wife will receive me. The number he gave me was that of the girlfriend in new York and I think that's where the problem started. The reason for this I guess its because of the wife's attitude problem. But the officer new she was not exactly the wife. When he went tru my uncles status he was able to get his wife number At that time the wife was already trying to reach me. The wife was in california and she told the cbp officer that she will buy me a ticket to LA. But at that point the guys mind was made up. I had to withdraw my visas voluntarily so as not to be forced out and banned. The officer said i can contact the VO in Nigeria. My questions Can I explain what happened to the Vo and still be able to apply in the future. If yes how do I go about it. I was only made to know i was refused entry. I don't know if I was banned. If I still want to attend the visit coz am currently on 4wks leave wish just started. How do I go about it. This was my first trip outside Nigeria and I had boasted about in the office. Just don't know how to face that. Lol. I also want the record set straight as I will be eligible for secondment overseas in my firm next year. It might be in our USA office. I don't want it to affect me when the opportunity comes. Need your advice please Lucasbalo: |
Shhhhhh how dare you apply logic? It's a lie its trump that chased them because they are Nigerians so please all students and people with straight forward stories and with proper things to do in the US cancel your trip abeg. yinkslinks: |
https://www.nairaland.com/2866800/10-reasons-why-travellers-turned That's a post showing some of the reasons why people have always been turned back at point of entry and it is not targetting https://www.nairaland.com/2495235/usa-visa-got-cancelled-poe That's is a another link of a Nigerian who was denied in 2015, why wasn't a statement issued then or was Trump in power then? https://www.nairaland.com/864807/denied-entry-into-uk That's another Nigerian denied entry to the UK in 2012. See how I found you ass a spread over the years? Why no cry of Nigerians targeted ? People will always be denied and that's a fact. If a border official has reason to suspect you are not coming for shah you claim to be coming for you will be questioned. Abiri coming to the conclusion Nigerians are targeted because 4 people were turned back out of the thousands who travelled in that 2 week period is bullshit. davidif: |
And that's your proof that Nigerians are targeted and should suspend all travel plans to the US? All valid students with visas should cancel and go to unilag right? As far back as we can go US immigration have always stopped people and pulled people aside for extra questioning and that is not new. All this is being blown up as trump when it not necessarily so. This is not the first time or last time people will be denied entry or questioned and it's the same everywhere so again stop making a mountain out of a molehill. If you want to cancel your travel plans go ahead while those who know they have nothing to hide will go and enter. All you are doing is sending me links to extreme cases with little details on why exactly they were denied or questioned. The Nigerian software developer who was questioned, why does he feel he is above questioning? That was his first time travelling and if the officials had some concerns it was his job to ask questions till he is sure, that still does not justify abiri's chicken little panic article. davidif: |
I did a goggle search and no detail on this so called Tuface brother being denied just random blogs and papers with same headline and same body of article showing copy and paste. Show me credible information on why he was denied and we can talk. You act like this is the first time Nigerians have been turned back, NO. Even under Obama if they had reason to turn you back they would. Obama deported a lot of illegal immigrants during his time go do your research. davidif: |
My question to you why was he denied? He doesn't say and you automatically assume its because of trump order or because they are targetting Nigerians? Get more facts on the case and present to me before such a conclusion. He claims to have been residing in Virginia? on what immigration status? Why was he denied or because he Tuface brother he is guaranteed entry? As I said 4 Nigerians in a 2 weeks period is nothing based on the numbers and I can guarantee you even countries with visa free access will see up to 4 turned back. Many students got visas, please visit the us student visa forum. Did they all get turned back? Until you show me proof of why he was turned back just saying Tuface brother was denied means jack all. I went into the US 2 weeks ago and there was no drama so stop mass panic. davidif: |
so Nigerians traveling frauduently to the Uk do not do same to the Us as well? Is that your argument? Or can you claim there are not many Nigerians living as illegal migrants in the UK and US? Go to Dubai and see illegal Nigerians, go to South Africa same thing and you come here trying to claim there is no justification for asking questions. I don't need tv or google to tell me there are many Nigerians living illegally abroad. i have seen it with my eyes. go to peckham and see them, go to Diera in Dubai and see our people living illegally. Go to Italy and see our women living illegally so please don't even try to pretend the video I posted is false. I am not saying all Nigerians are illegal, far from it but there is a sizeable proportion and that is a fact. You say such people should not be used to demonize the whole country, please tell me how 4 people returned out of the thousands who traveled t the US in that 2 week period is demonizing a whole country? And if you do not want the behaviour of some not to demonise the country then we should be changing our bad habits so people stop having such a negative impression of all of us. again I still don't see the point you are trying to make using 4 Nigerians returned in a 2 week period to conclude the US is targeting and demonising Nigerians. Isn't that a huge stretch? Go to the US student visa forum an see how many students got student visas and have traveled. how many were turned back? If you are travelling legally and honest with no shady intentions you will be fine. There may be some situations where extra questioning may be required for the border officer to be comfortable before letting you in but that is his job and it applies to every single person irrespective of your passport so I don't get all this they are mistreating Nigeria you are claiming. Does Nigeria's embassy abroad treat Nigerians well? the fact the minister of foreign affairs had to come out and denounce her statement shows it was stupid and senseless statement with no logic or though applied before she sent it out. ATERI: |
I still don't see your point here. Celestine was questioned because the border officer was not sure if he was coming for the reason he claimed he was coming for and after extra questioning he was let in and not returned as you and Dabiri are claiming. That is the job of the US border agency and yes sometimes some people may be asked extra questions until they are sure. I used to hold a L1 work visa and every time I came in they would ask what I did with the company and I would be let in. Sometimes it's just to see how you react and answer rather than they really know what you do because they obviously will now know the details of every job on earth. it may be he hesitated or did not look confident or for any reason that the officer may have puled him aside for extra questioning and this happens to everyone all over the freaking globe so get off your high horse. If Nigerian immigration officials have any inclination someone may be misrepresenting themselves I will hope they take precautions to ask more questions to be sure rather than just let them in. Oh sorry I forgot they would rather collect bribes and let them in. And as per your point about America doing no wrong when have I said so? They have done wrong yes but in this case if questioning someone extra that is their prerogative and a visa is a privilege not a right. Go and watch Australian border force shows to see how they scrutinise and question people even those holding British and US passports before entry and many are sent back if the officer has reason to send him back simple. Yes if a Nigerian travels to the US or any country and vice versa on false pretences and they are sent back, is that wrong? That is a video of a Nigerian caught by the UK border force with a fake visa. Wow Nigeria must stop trade with the UK for daring to send him back shouldn't they? Are you trying to deny that cases like this doesn't happen with Nigerians caught with fake papers or claiming they are going for holiday but actually planning to stay behind and work illegally? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKXRj5fhEQA ATERI: |
Exactly and the way Nigerians jump on the panic bandwagon is alarming. People can read and research for thenselves to make up their mind rather than just jump on false news. jerseyboy: |
See below confirmation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs that Abiri has no clue what she was talking about. She is just confused and making a mountain out of a molehill and creating false panic. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has said that Nigerians who have United States valid travel documents are free to embark on their trip. The minister's call came barely a day after the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, advised Nigerians to postpone their US travel plans until the country's new administration's policy on immigration is clear. She said the warning became imperative due to series of reports received by her office. The minister, while briefing newsmen in Abuja Tuesday, urged Nigerians to dismiss any report asking them to postpone their US trip. "This is not the case" Onyeama said, stressing that no Nigerian with valid US visa were turned back. The minister said he had spoken to the US ambassador to Nigeria and high level US officials who said nothing of such had happened," he said. He said Nigeria is not among the countries currently under US travel ban, noting that both countries enjoyed cordial bilateral relations. He stressed that it is only the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that are credible sources of information about Nigeria's foreign relations. greenpasture: |
you talk like you don't know Nigerians and applicants from many countries use false documents to apply and scale through or give false intentions for their visit. many Nigerians have been returned at POE because they claim they are going for holiday but immigration officials find CVs, certificates etc. in their bag or see chats emails on their phone that says otherwise. And this is not peculiar to Nigerians. If a UK national says he is going to the US for holiday and immigration believe otherwise he will be sent back. Have you ever watched shows like UK Border force where they turn Nigerians back for different reasons? Why didn't she issue travel advice then? I stand by my point Dabiri was irresponsible to issue that statement based on 4 people turned back out of the thousands who entered that same period and try to claim it was due to Trump when we all know the executive order was not even in effect. I can assure you even countries like the UK with visa waiver programs can have 4 people sent back in a 2 week period. Everyday Americans are turned back at Canadian road border for various reasons, Americans, UK nationals etc. are turned back at Australia borders everyday and they don't issue travel warning so get with the facts and stop making a mountain out of a molehill. Until Dabiri can provide proof of why the 4 were returned claiming it was because of Trump is irresponsible. Your source is the daily mail? Really ?? Why would a US citizen's travel privileges be under review? And the same false article you posted clearly states USCIS confirmed they have no idea what he is talking about yet you still post it. That is proof that you seek any false news that fits your narrative and pounce on it even when the said article says otherwise.Representatives with US Citizenship and Immigration Services told Dailymail.com that they were not aware of Khan's case or of any American citizen having their travel privileges put under review by the US government. Calls and emails by the site to the Canada Border Services Agency were not answered. US Customs & Border Protection officials said the agency does not contact travelers in advance of their travel out of the US, adding that any US citizen with a passport may travel out of the country. Yes I agree the US government should be criticised if they treat Nigerians unfairly but nothing in her statement proves they were treated unfairly and as I said 4 people turned back in 2 weeks in comparison to the number of flights and people who travel between Nigerian and US daily is miniscule so it is NOT due to Trump's order but something else. Do you think people from other countries aren't sent back as well? Even people from the UK which is visa free are sent back if there is a reason to do so e.g. UK citizens who lie they do not have a criminal record and use the visa waiver program when they shouldn't will be sent back if caught. At the bolded, that is just wrong, please show me proof he is targeting people as long as you are not white. He has been clear he is targeting illegal immigration especially where illegal immigrants commit criminal offences and I do not see anything wrong with that. His executive order very very clear and targets 7 countries which you will agree are countries wit so many issue that even verifying someone's is very hard e.g. Somalia Syria etc. How have you translated that to against anyone not white? Have you even read the text of the executive orders or just believing everything you hear in the news? If the Nigerians visa was fake you would not hear it on CNN, you know why? Because so many Nigerians use fake visas and documents so catching 4 in 2 weeks will NOT make headline news. On the contrary if they were turned back falsely that will make the news. ATERI: |
Chai na my London you diss like this? lol I agree with you. When I moved I looked back and couldn't figure out how I lived in those small houses, and don't get me started on drying clothes on radiators. But despite all that, London hold a special place in my heart. Gave me my first start and a career which has taken me to the US and I met my wife there. Intellect20: |
Thank you Sir. See the way people panic and run helter skelter like Chicken Licken based on false information from a government official who should know better. yinkslinks: |
By lying and blowing things out of proportion is kudos, and by calling them out on the lie is slavery. Yet they have not issued a travel warning to South Africa where Nigerians are being killed. ATERI: |
Were you there when their visa was cancelled to be so sure it was because of an executive order that was not even in effect? ATERI: |
This is relative and based on personal choice. I prefer America but that does not mean I am saying it is better, it just means I prefer it based on my preferences and life choices especially compared to London where I lived for 10 years. I've visited Canada and it is a lovely place but I wouldn't take it over the US. Also Wellington etc. are all nice, everywhere has its pros and cons, but I currently work with a New Zealander who wouldn't go back as he doesn't think there are enough opportunities so its all a matter of personal preference rather than A is better than B. Intellect20: |
I disagree, please show me proof of any Nigerian who's visa was cancelled because of the order. IT will be because of immigration fraud or if you have visited one of the countries on the watch list and you are a concern. The average and ordinary Nigerian will not be impacted and given the number of flights and people leaving Nigeria to America daily, only 4 people turned back in two weeks is a very very small proportion so her warning is unwarranted. I'm sure even people from visa counties like the UK would have had similar number turned back in 2 weeks. greenpasture: |
Yes there have been some minor cases of green card holders being detained but if it happened after the last order was over ruled by the judge then how can it be due to trump's order? Even during Obama and any other president green card holders have been detained if there is a reason to do so. With the new executive order it has been made very clear green card holders and people with existing visas will not be affected, and it clearly only targets 6 specific countries (Iraq has been removed as the Iraqi government put in place extra measures from their end). I agree some green card holders were initially detained when the first order was issued and that was due to the abrupt manner it was implemented amid confusion, but it was later confirmed green card holders would not be impacted. I still don't see how any of this warrants a travel advice from Abike Dabiri. She claims 4 Nigerians were sent back in the last 2 weeks, I am very sure it was not because of the executive order but something else especially as she says they cancelled their visa at the airport which suggest immigration fraud. This always happened even during Obama's time. The only situation I can see a Nigerian being impacted by the executive order is if you have travelled to one of the countries on the watch list. This will definitely flag you up for extra questions and you may be sent back. davidif: |
This is just bullshit. The previous executive order wasn't in effect 2 weeks ago hence if 4 Nigerians were truly turned back it wasn't because of trumps executive order but for something else. Also with the number of flights that fly from Nigeria to America everyday we can agree more than 4 people flew to America which means majority entered except 4. I wouldn't be surprised if their visa was cancelled for immigration fraud or something. Dabiri's travel advice is irresponsible and just scare mongering. Besides the guy has been clear of his intentions and has never targeted legal migration from Nigeria. |
