Tbh Trump's proposed reform of the H1b visa will actually benefit Nigerians and other countries because for years now IT outsourcing companies from India have been flooding the H1b application every year resulting in it being oversubscribed and a lottery to select people. These companies know how to play the numbers game e.g. if they need 100 programmers they will send in 400 plus applications and should end up with about 100. This makes it very difficult for people from Nigeria etc given India alone has taken about 70% of the H1b visas available. Trump's proposal to increase the min salary from $60k amongst others means people who are highly skilled and identified by American companies have more of a chance rather than just software developers from India who are being taken advantage off due to these companies paying low wages. As you can see from the below link, in 2016 Nigeria only sent 402 workers under the H1B visa scheme compared to India who sent over 120k. Unless you want to tell me Indians are much more highly skilled than Nigerians you can see it is very unfair and guess what Indians still complain that it is not enough and want restrictions on country levels for green cards lifted. https://www.recode.net/2017/4/13/15281170/china-india-tech-h1b-visas BrightFuture48: |
Thanks , this week has been mild infact today was about 12 degrees and we were dancing given last week it was as cold as -18. pretty16: |
Hey pretty16, yes I had to pay the $220 which is for the production of the green card itself. It is advised you pay for it before you enter the US to avoid any delays in the production which took about a month for me, but it's fine if you pay after entry as well as your stamped immigrant visa is proof of your status. One thing to note if you plan to start applying for jobs asap I will advise paying before entry to get the card as some employers don't understand that they can accept the stamped visa and may be difficult. It is not a new fee though it recently increased from $160 I think. Oladeep: |
What immigration options are available to you from both countries? If you have the means of migrating to the US legally (via marriage, family or work sponsorship) there are more opportunities there, if not Canada has more favourable migration policies for now e.g. the skilled worker programs. It happens once in a while and shouldn’t be an issue. If they were refusing you they will refuse and not ask you to come for another biometrics so don’t worry and go do it. Gregi2017: |
Hey Rol3nd, decided to answer you here. When you say local government certificate do you mean the long one which has details of both parents including occupation, address etc or the small one which is like a summary certificate? If he long one you can use this as that is what I used, if short then you need to get the NPC certificate or the long local government certificate. Eligibility for the NPC certificate depends on when you were born. If before 1988 (never for clear guidance on the cut off date) you can only get the NPC Attestation. If after you can get the actual NPC certificate. Worse case if they don’t accept the certificate you sent they will send you a request to produce the acceptable version or it you get to Embassy stage issue you a 221g request to send it. They will not automatically reject your application for that. One thing that caught my attention you say she is your wife yet she is filing for a K1 visa. K1 is a fiancée visa. If you are already married shouldn’t she be filing the i-130 so you get a green card straight? Last month my wife filled for (K-1) and all information submitted are accurate and truthful but birth certificate i submitted is the one issued by the Local government from my home town, now i am confuse because this same certificate i used through out my school days and for my school here in SA. My questions are : 1: Is this birth certificate not recognize by USCIS, because i found a forum here and lots of people are talking about NPC birth certificate. 2: We hope this wont result to not getting approval on our case or what should do i do as we already received the form I-797C notice of application received. I will appreciate your quick response on these...Thanks. |
I’m addition to what others have said, even if he has a company who wants to apply for him they can only apply when the window opens April 2018 for an October 2018 start. There is a 85k quota for H1b visas annually and based on prior years they recorded about 300k applications so even for those approved it becomes a lottery and those Indian outsourcing companies like Tata Infosys etc have for the game locked down. Same to you pretty16, how have you been? The weather is getting colder oh, forecast -8 this week lol. How long do you have left for your PD to be current? pretty16: |
Hey the inerview was pretty straight forward as my petitioner was my wife and we have been married 6 years with a child so obviously genuine marriage. He asked a few questions to verify how long we have been married, how did my wife get her green card etc but just straight forward standard questions. The only delay was they did not accept my birth certificate (the smaller A3 one) so I had to get the long form version which I posted to the embassy and my visa issued and passport posted to me. My advise is be comfortable discussing your application and your relationship to your petitioner and you should be fine. Given it’s an immigrant visa application, you don’t have to prove ties to Nigeria etc. koolkesh: |
@ pretty16 It does happen and the interview date will fall in the next month when his PD will be due. Same happened to me, I got my interview confirmation in the month before my PD was current but it was for early the next month when my PD would be current. They have insight into what PDs will be current next month and start scheduling interviews. Oladeep: |
What is your current status in the US i.e. are on you track to get a green card and at some point citizenship? If yes I will advice you stay in the US and get the citizenship or at least green card as back up before making the move back to Nigeria. This gives you a safety net in case things don't work out, and if they do then fine, at least you come back with more savings and experience. Also think of your future kids, having the citizenship will be beneficial for them and they will not have to go through student visa process in the future should they need to study in the US. While I am hopeful about Nigeria, I do not see the educational sector improving anytime soon. You can always start working on buying land etc. before moving finally. BluFlyBoy: |
Check seatguru and your flight number for the exact seat layout. It will show the layout and also people's feedback especially for seats to avoid etc. https://www.seatguru.com/ Edit: I just realised it was for a local Nigerian flight so ignore. You can use for your next international flight .Bimpe29: |
You’re welcome. What I explained was actually a foreign bond not Eurobond. Please look at jossey94 comment. He explained some key subtle differences between foreign bonds and Eurobonds that I missed out in my reply. critic9ja: |
Hahaha at bolded. Thanks for the correction, I get it now. The differences are in the currency, foreign country of issue and where it is listed. jossey94: |
Edit: what I described below was actually a foreign bond. Similar to an Eurobond but slight difference the Eurobond is issued in a currency other than the currency of the country’s issuing it, so in this case Nigeria actually issued the bond in dollars. A Foreign bonds on the other hands is a bond issued inan international market and in that markets currency. The name refers to the currency e.g. Yankee bonds are bonds raised in dollars and listed in the US, Samurai bonds are bonds raised in Yen and listed in Japan, etc. A simplistic example, Nigeria issues a bond of $100 at 10% for 30 years means Nigeria will pay $10 annually in interest to the bond holder and at year 30 return the principal of $100. I can see the logic behind locking in debt for long term investments, but if we are borrowing in November to finance 2017 budget, what's the plan to finance 2018 budget which is higher than the 2017 budget? Government organisations tend to try to spend all money allocated before the year runs out to avoid a cut in the following years budget, hence how can we be sure there will not be reckless spending to make sure they spend the money by the end of the year? |
No worries, whichever is quicker and easier for you to get. Goodluck, you're nearly at the end of the journey ![]() Oladeep: |
Hi Chekey, Oladeep, to clarify the local government certificate is indeed acceptable if you do not have the NPC certificate. When I say local government certificate I mean the long form version which has details of both parents including occupation address at birth etc. not the small A3 sized version. Depending on when you were born you can get either the NPC attestation or the local government certificate, whichever is easier for you. My application was put on hold because I went with the A3 version and I posted the local government long form from Lagos Mainland local govt to the embassy and got my immigrant visa. This is the US visa reciprocity webpage which explains what is required and as you can see in certain circumstances based on when you were born you can submit the local government long form. The key thing they want to see is all the details contained on the long version rather than the short version which has limited information. https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/fees/reciprocity-by-country/NI.html Alternate Documents: For people born prior to 1979 or in some cases prior to 1988, a birth certificate issued by a Local Government Authority or a hospital or a baptismal certificate is acceptable. There is also the National Population Commission Attestation of Birth Certificate issued to people whose birth occurred before 1979 when the National Population Commission issued birth certificate was first introduced as a pilot program. Any of these is acceptable.. chokey419: |
So they shouldn't count on dad's properties but the dad's brother should? Yes their father having property should not stop them striving for theirs, but that in no way means the brother is entitled to the property. NwaAmaikpe: |
He was probably planning it for a while as back up given Grace Mugabe has been gunning for power for a while now. desreek9: |
This remains to be seen.... The new interim president has been Mugabe's right hand man for a long time now so hopefully it will lead to Zimbabwe's liberation not the start of another dictatorship. sanky346: |
Well presented facts? loooooool Trust me you can always find information to fit whatever narrative you want. If I want to prove Sudan is the greatest country on earth I can find so called facts on the internet that say that. Just let people be, those who are suffering in the US they can always return to Nigeria if they feel there are more opportunities for them there. If they choose to stay and suffer then it’s their choice. timesup234: |
I just read the interchange between Pidgin2 and timesup234 and you guys are hilarious. I don’t know why you are so opposed to people making their choices but thanks for making me laugh so much this morning ![]() |
Seems he lives and works in Nigeria and as driven past her a few times so decided to get her the crutches. NwaAmaikpe: |
Yes I agree majority of Chinese debt is local, but that does not make it better . The majority of Chinese debt is local held locally as opposed to at federal level in the US due to the pressure on local leaders to increase output and in return GDP and this is more dangerous because I can assure you even the Chinese government do not have a clear picture of how much they owe. There is also massive systemic risk due to the fact China uses government back banks to continue to fuel debt and if comes crashing it can be really bad. I do hope they are able to sort it out and transition their economy as it matures if not the global economy will feel it. I also acknowledge the US debt has to be tackled and while I do not like Trump's crazy talk he is one person who has spoken about dealing with it and I hope he can. Obama literally increased the debt ceiling every year fuelling social programs and welfare. Anyway on this US v Nigeria issue I don't think it warrants all this argument and insults flying all over. Every individual knows where the shoe is pinching him and can make a decision accordingly. There are people who will make it in Nigeria and those who will not, those who will make it in US or China and those who will not. Even New Zealand supposedly one of the best countries in the world for living standards has one of the highest homeless rates in the world and one of the highest teenage suicide rates so every country has it's pros and cons, its good sides and challenges though some more than others. Just30: |
You also have some people who have bigger homes in the suburbs where their families stay and maintain an apartment in the city for work. BlowJobs: |
You do realise China’s debt has been growing rapidly over this century and is now over 220% of GDP? How do you think they funded all the construction and infrastructure spending to move people from the rural to urban cities? At the moment the Chinese economy is still addicted to debt and they are trying hard to transition to a consumer driver economy like the U.S. Besides i’m not sure why you are all arguing on this thread, there will be people Nigeria will work for, some China will work for, some US will work for. Live and let live and stop all this petty arguing. hodari: |
Wise words.... BlowJobs: |
When you say 2 year visa to work at a factory, what visa are you referring to? I hope not 2 year B1/B2 visa? I will be suprised if a factory paying $15 can sponsor you for an L1 or H1 work visa. Regarding permanent residence your employer will have to sponsor you for a green card so if you have a work visa e.g. L1 or H1 visa, you should discuss agree if/when they will start the green card processing as it can take up to 2 years. The other option is via marriage or if you are in a position to invest I think up to $1m (I may be wrong on the amount) jimikata: |
The fact he keeps comparing people who are illegal and doing menial jobs in the US to bank managers in Nigeria says it all. MISTAICEY02288: |
