BusinessRe: Will Nigerian Banks Ever Start Issuing Credit Cards? by ttmacoy:
It says debit card right on the card you claim is not a debit card but an ATM card doesn't it?

They are all ATM cards as they can all be used to withdraw money from an ATM.

Th difference between them is when you use a debit card, the transaction results in a debit to your account thereby reducing the account balance. It is linked to your current account.

When you use a credit card the transaction results in a credit against you as you now owe the bank. You can use a credit card at an ATM though you get charged with fee and probably higher interest rate so it's never advisable to do so.

The other card you showed from Walmart or wherever is a pre-paid card which means you preload it before using. It also says debit because transactions results in a debit against the money you have pre loaded to the account. It is used in place of the credit card for people who do not have the credit worthiness to get a proper credit card or bank account.

They are all ATM cards.

RichYoungNigga:
This is an Atm card.
It is issued by your bank.
You can't buy it in the store.

You can't add money on it

So 131 murders in 3 months becomes 500k annuallyhuh And it is says 84% rise doesn't it?

Yes I said there is gang on gang crime and killings but it is mostly in a few areas south side like englewood which are infested with black gangs, and a few areas west side like Austin which is occupied by Mexican Latina gangs. Most of Chicago downtown, North and even south etc not to talk of the suburbs are as safe as any major city and even safer than Lagos. Stop twisting information just got make your point.

In the article you posted it says at the bottom gang retaliation doesn't it?

If you are a law abiding person there is no reason whatsoever to be in those areas and as I said 50m people visited Chicago last year and were safe.

Haba take it easy now, 500k lose their life in Chicago alone annually Kai. What's the population of Chicago in the first place?

Chicago is actually an amazing city and Lagos cannot compare, it just has high gang on gang killing in a few areas down south. As a law abiding educated Nigerian working, there is absolutely no reason for you to even go to not to talk of live in those areas so I don't get the point you are trying to make. The same Chicago you are dissing had 50m visitors last year, wow they all died didn't they?

America is HUGE, at least 10 times bigger in land area compared to Nigeria with just double the population, if you cannot find a safe place to live then that's your problem not America. Besides was the OP living in ajegunle?

RichYoungNigga:
You're still new in America.
Do you know where Reading, Pennsylvania is ??
Have you been to Bronx New York ??
Have you been to little Haiti in Florida ??

Ajegunle is better than those places i ment.

There are places you can't go to in Santa Monica, California and in Chicago.
Let's talk about crime, Chicago is just a city, not even a state and they are world murder capital, 500 thousand people lose their lives yearly in Chicago.

Come, i go carry you go Camden, New Jersey or Alabama, you go know say Nigeria is heaven
PoliticsRe: Increase In Fuel Price: Osinbajo Explains Reasons Behind It by ttmacoy: 1:08am On May 14, 2016
Falling oil prices coupled with falling demand for oil on the global stage, plus falling production in Nigeria due to vandalism.

Given government earns about 70% of earning from oil, you can see why earnings are dwindling.

PoliticsRe: Buhai Reacts To David Cameron's Statement About Nigeria by ttmacoy: 1:16pm On May 11, 2016
What exactly does Nigeria need an apology for? Yes we are fantastically corrupt and Buhari also confirm that at same event so no Nigeria does not need an apology.

What we need as a nation is to make corruption unattractive and difficult and this also involves the support of foreign nations to stop the stashing of stolen funds. Over time we will get our reputation back, we don't need an apology.

What's the point of an apology when everyone knows we are really corrupt and they all say it, only difference is they were not caught on camera. Even if Cameron apologises now, do you think people will say ah Nigeria is not corrupt?

Besides based on how contexts of the conversation this has been unecessarily blown out of proportion by the British press.

bishophenry:

Even our president aknowledged corruption is endemic in Nigeria.

If TNT were brains you wouldnt have enough to split open just one pod of groundnut. Are you crazy? I am showing the world the bigger picture of hypocrisy and duplicity and devilish corruption and here you are raving and frothing about 'defending her citizens', a country budgets enough money to fit a nuclear system that is capable of destroying the world many times over in order to'defend itself' and it makes sense to you? Oh please stop all this blame game.

Is it the UK that helped Dasuki steal and share all the money he did? Was it Cameron who asked the customs officer at MMA to ask me for money? We continue to blame and avoid responsibility.

If we know as you say that the UK is corrupt, why can't we be the leading light in the world, instead we are corrupt times 50 and try to push the blame.

We have to own the situation we are in and make the decision to fight it instead of blaming and making excuses and conspiracy theories. You sound like one of those who believe everything bad was done specifically to destroy Nigeria. HIV was aimed to destroy Nigerians greatness. Ebola was meant to stop Nigerians star. Malaria was meant to kill Nigeria, blah blah blah.

Why don't we stop spending all our time and money in churches in pursuit of miracles and start investing in science and technology so we can look after ourselves?

Because I agree with him that we are indeed corrupt means I hate myself for being black lol ok. Continue living in denial and blaming the world for our problems.

How many of the Nigerian politicians indicted in the panama papers have admitted fault or apologized? Not one.

ephi123:
There was nothing criminal or illegal about Cameron's father establishing a company in Panama. It was only a question of it being morally wrong since it is a form of tax avoidance. Despite this, the newspapers did not cut him any slack, there was a lot of pressure on Cameron during that period.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. We are one of the most corrupt nations in the world and that is a fact.

The UK having tax havens is not justification of us being corrupt, and countries such as the UK and Dubai etc. have been putting in place processes to limit the inflow of stolen funds which is one of the aim of this summit isn't it? And besides a tax haven is not necessarily corrupt or illegal.

Lets even assume the UK is willing and happy to take stolen money, is that your justification to steal your country dryhuh Please stop making excuses, we are damn corrupt. News just came out of how we stole aid money given to us for HIV victims, we steal people's salaries and pension, we steal money which was to defend Nigerians against book haram, we steal everything. Went to Nigeria last month, every single person trying to find a way to get money out of you right from the airport. How many times have they asked you for money in HEatrow? If you say Britain is corrupt, please next time you are in the UK bribe a policeman and lets see how it ends for you.

Really. That's all you've got? Cus Britain is spending money on trident means Nigeria is not corrupt or that Britain is more corrupt?

Try again.

At least they priotise the safety of defending their people compared to Nigerians who stole money expected to defend Nigerians from boko haram

MrPresident1:
Britain plans to replace its Trident Nuclear fleet at a cost of 100 billion pounds, if we convert this to Naira at CBN official rates, it amounts to N22,700,000,000,000, 22trillion 700 billion Naira to spend on nuclear weapons. It shows you the 'white' man prioritizes death over you, ordinary poor ignorant and silly Nigerians.

https://www.rt.com/uk/335831-cnd-trident-osborne-budget/

If Nigeria is a corrupt country, how then do we describe a country that budgets an amount 10 times enough to feed the whole world, for weapons of death ten times enough to destroy the whole world?

And cameron has the guts, the effrontery and temerity to say that Nigerians are 'fantastically corrupt'! The irony of life!

TravelRe: Long Queues At The Ojota Pedestrian Bridge Early Today by ttmacoy: 2:31pm On May 09, 2016
But they are using this bridge as it should be used and actually queuing up which I commend. It is unacceptable to expect people to spend this much time to cross a road daily. It's obvious the bridge isn't sufficient for the pedestrian traffic hence my point of poor planning.

If you consider the amount of time we spend on traffic, queuing for bridges, queuing to use ATM machines or banking services, queuing for fuel etc, just imagine if all those time was spent on more value added activities and the impact on our economy.

olapluto:
Poor planning due to indiscipline. If people were using pedestrian bridges as they should, and not jumping the roads like monkeys, then there would have been plenty lawful alternatives. I agree that things cannot continue like this, but the alternative is not to abandon the bridge altogether.
TravelRe: Long Queues At The Ojota Pedestrian Bridge Early Today by ttmacoy: 2:10pm On May 09, 2016
Really? They queue to cross a road using pedestrian bridge? Please say what it is, poor planning and management. Show me where in he Scandinavians they queue to use a pedestrian bridge everyday. Can you imagine how much that adds to you daily commute everyday especially with the traffic we already endure?

olapluto:
In Scandinavia, they queue as well. Lets get used to it. This may just kick start the rebirth of discipline in Lagos state. If other states can follow, then the ripple effects will be nice.
People will complain about the queue, then force government to provide alternatives.

Yes you can but it is usually based on top grades amongst other criteria though I doubt you can get a scholarship at this time for this year. Scholarships are very competitive and you need to be prepared and apply early. My advice will be to conduct the research into different scholarship programs eg Commonwealth, Chevening etc. and also into school funded scholarships to understand the criteria, deadlines etc. and plan accordingly most likely for next year. Don't forget you are competing with people from all over the world so you need to arm yourself with information to be able to give yourself a chance and also bring your A game to your application.

An example of a university funded scholarship is the Nottingham developing solutions scholarship (closed for this year). My sister was awarded a full tuition waiver for her MSc a few years ago, so look into it and also do research into other universities and properly read and understand their criteria. Good luck

TravelRe: How To Obtain Drivers License In United State Of America by ttmacoy: 1:20am On Apr 30, 2016
Your first point of call should be the licence website for the state you are interested in as they will have all the info you need there, and there's loads of info online as well.

http://www.dmv.state.va.us/drivers/#applying.html

To obtain a VA driver's license, you will need to apply in person at your local DMV office (except for the Fair Oaks Mall office). You will need to:
Provide documents to prove your:
Identity (e.g. birth certificate, passport, government-issued ID card).
Legal presence in the U.S. (e.g. U.S. passport, permanent resident card, foreign passport and I-94 print out).
VA residency (e.g. rental agreement, recent bank statement, recent paycheck stub).
SSN, if you have one (e.g. Social Security card, paycheck stub, Social Security statement).
Name change, if applicable (e.g. marriage certificate, divorce decree, court order).
NOTE: See the VA DMV's list of required and accepted documents.
Show you've completed an approved Driver’s Ed course, if you haven't held a learner's permit for at least 60 days.
Pass the VA DMV tests:
Vision.
Knowledge.
Driving.
Pay the $32 fee.
Based on $4 per year for 8 years. In certain circumstances your driver's license may only be valid for 5 years and you'll pay the same yearly fee.
The VA DMV will send you your driver's license by mail

I'm not sure what you mean by reunite but you can apply for for visit visa to go visit, you will not be able to live and work. You may be lucky to find someone who is a citizen while there visiting, fall in love a get married.

If you are looking at permanent relocation legally your only options would be via work permit through an American employer or go via student visa and try to get a job with sponsorship when you finish.

Or invest a significant amount in the US economy. No other legal way I can think of.

Jason27:
So what can we do now, what do you suggest for us? We really want to reunite, any option?
TravelRe: US Family Preference Visa Waiters Lounge by ttmacoy: 5:35pm On Apr 29, 2016
Your friend cannot apply for you to come and live and work in the US. He can only apply for his spouse, children parents and siblings not friends.

When you say change your name to your friends name, that still does not prove you are related.

Even if you are able to prove you are e.g. brothers, the process can take up to 10 years or more based on the current waiting times.

Jason27:
Good morning sir, my very good live in USA married US citizen, which type of visa can this couple apply for me, I'm not going for visit, I want to stay and work. If we use family visa, that means I will change my surname to my friend surname or any other way for them to apply for me without changing my surname?

OK you are just exaggerating here. How many bankers do you know who leave bank work and go to another job? An please don't try to paint bank job in Nigeria as good it is slavery. 70% of Banks like GTBANK are contract workers earning small and working like crazy.

People with professional jobs will be far better on a job by job basis comparing Nigeria to US. People who do multiple jobs in the US are usually blue collar type workers and not bankers. Also you say people do 2 - 3 jobs right? Isn't that better than people in Nigeria who cannot even find 1 job to start with? Need to lick Ass an know people before you even get the 1 job which still pays peanuts and you are treated like crap.

America is not paradise but if you work hard you will have to far better life the Nigeria excluding money from shady means.

A single bank job in Nigeria can sustain a family in Nigeria. RN are not even rich like they make it look like, they are just there paying the bills
TravelRe: I Finally Got To America-thanks Nairaland! by ttmacoy:
You can't study on a visit visa and it will be hard to change from a visit visa to a study visa while in the US.

Best bet is to apply for the masters program and get a student visa, then while there get your mum to file for you.

Edit: if your mum files for you while she has a green card, you will fall under F2A category and t may take about 2 years, so this may work with the timing of a 2 year masters degree.

Regarding your point on healthcare, while it is free at point of service, it is not necessarily free as it is paid through taxes.

As someone who lived in the UK and now the US there are pros and cons to both systems. With the US insurance system I feel I can control my healthcare costs because I can choose an insurance policy with higher co pay and lower payments if I am young and healthy and increase it as I get older and less healthy or have children, but obviously the downside is the higher co pay should I et seriously sick. Same as you I was in the UK over 10 years and I went to the doctor maybe 4-5 times yet I paid for it in my taxes monthly.

In the US you also have pre tax health accounts where you can keep some pretax dollars for medical payments which means if you can keep the money there to cover whenever you fall ill and need to pay the higher c pay, and it rolls over if you don't use it so you don't lose it as opposed to paying high taxes irrespective of if you need it or not.

As i said there are pros and cons to both and in the US if you don't have a good insurance policy i.e. from employers then you can get in financial trouble very quickly.

In summary the way I see it, if you have a good job and good insurance policy, the US system is better as you get better services because the pressure on the NHS is unsustainable, but if you are a lower level earner or do not have access to affordable insurance, then the UK or Canadian system works better as it covers everyone irrespective of earning.

On your other points I see where you are coming from and I agree with some, but one thing is you cannot make comparisons simply by converting dollars to naira and saying I pay $1500 mortgage but in Nigeria that would get me xx because we need to consider the cost of living and earning potential in both countries first. It's not a straight dollar to naira conversion,

SmartMugu:
I understand healthcare is free in Canada, it's not in the US. About $600 is deducted from my paychecks every month for my family's healthcare insurance. I haven't even been sick nor seen a doctor for about 2 years, yet about $300 is taken from me bi-weekly.

Your point #4 is noted. Thanks for clarifying.

That would have been to possibility except China has been over producing steel so much the likes of Tata Steel in the UK are in trouble and this is coupled with slowing demand for steel from China.

The steel over supply is so much that China the UK and other just met to discuss cutting production.
