Very true. Boris Johnson the mayor of London rides a bicycle to city hall and even to 10 Downing Street when he has to go there.

There is a huge difference in mentality which I don't see changing for generations to come. Hopefully after the current recycled crop of leaders leave and a new generation comes in.

claremont:
A very good article, and I recommend that Justwise pushes this to front page. What is written about is applicable in most developed economies. In the UK, some MPs (equivalent of Nigerian Senators) ride bicycles to their offices. In Nigeria, having a big car is a reflection of societal status.

That depends on the city/area eg NYC and the likes of Chicago don't have many wood houses, but cities like Houston etc do.

I agree the risk of fire a especially those areas prone to hurricane and such.

jwillng:
All the houses here seem to be made of wood. When fire happens-the house is gone in seconds. Thats one bad thing I have seen here. Any strong wind and the house is gone. But the foundation looks Naija foundation.

And what role did Nigeria play in his success? When he was roaming around council estates in Watford you didn't claim him. Now he is successful all of a sudden they are hypocrites

@op, please put the guy's Nigerian name to let the whole world know he is a Nigerian first, before becoming a Brit. Bunch of hypocrites want to claim all the glory for themselves just because he is doing great, but the story is going to be different If the guy were to be involved in negative stuffs. They will be like " Nigerian's are always involved in fraudulent activities", "Nigerian's this, Nigerian's that. GOD bless we Country. #ibelieveNigeriawillbegreatsomeday.

Very funny. Your title read: "obama praised buhari......" And you say it is not special to you? Of course it is special to you. There is no difference between that kind of off-handed praise and the kind of praise you give to your poor employee. We should even be too ashamed to post such degrading video.

Yes he exchanged pleasantries with PMB asking if the accommodation was ok, and about 15 seconds in said to Trudeau while gesturing to PMB "he's doing a good job" to which Trudeau replied "he is indeed".

Interesting video where Obama introduced PMB to the Canadian PM and added "he is doing a good job" gesturing at PMB. The Canadian PM replies "he is indeed"

Good he is getting some recognition for the difficult issues he is dealing with.

Is it this same Britain that has been implementing policies against international students?

Please stop blaming foreign countries our issues. If our leaders collected bribes to sabotage our own refineries then blame our leaders and the people who keep voting them in.

I see pros and cons to both devaluing or not devaluing, and tbh we are already feeling the impact of devaluation with high inflation and high cost. But I also get the added impact of devaluation especially as we import so much and our banks owe so much foreign denominated debt.

This is like being between a rock and a hard place as we need foreign investment to help ud build the capabilities which will diversify our foreign earnings, but let's be honest if Ghana implemented policies that prevents foreign companies repatriating their funds, will the likes of glo and Gtbank etc in Ghana be happy?

SLIDEwaxie:
if anybody read the book, 'how Europeans u developed africa' they will understand that these guys used everything they get from Africa to develop their land.

From natural resources to direct cash!

And they still do it today through diplomacy.

They are the ones who pay our foolish politicians to sabotage the refineries since inception just to cart away the crude oil and send back as export, strengthening their economy even when they have no such natural resources.

Britain is crying to make us devalue because they live on tourism with no knwn technology to support their economy. Everybody knows that apart from the high standard of living. And average Briton is a poor man- almost with no savings because the government collects up to 50% tax just to keep breathing. The dollar crunch and the blind eye towards excepting education out of the forex wahala is affecting them.

Do u knw howuch they make via education to the stupid African countries alone? Billions of pounds!

Immediately our govt moved against the dollar, they were the first to feel the heat... They recorded their first low patronage in decades

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by ttmacoy: 4:16am On Mar 30, 2016
That is not true. Not saying everyone will make it in America, but I know a lot of Nigerians in good jobs living good lives.

I guess it depends on your definition of making it. If you define making it by hitting billions, then Nigeria is a better choice for you though there is a higher probability you will not make it there. For those who are looking to make it the proper old fashioned way of working your way to success as opposed to overnight unexplainable wealth, then many of them make it in America.

It is not easy, it will take hard work, preservation and determination but like for like you have better chances of making it legally in the US than Nigeria.

Also don't forget you are new in the system so it will take time to adapt and get into the system proper, and it is harder when you don't have a support system around you like you did in Nigeria.

There is nothing wrong with going back to Nigeria if you believe that is where you will be happy or achieve your dreams, but stop generalizing and making statements that no one makes it in America to justify your decision. People will make it in America same as Nigeria, and there will be those who will not make in America same as Nigeria.

LUCAS99:
Easier said than done. Hopefully when you arrive you will understand how the system is structured. From my observation only a very few people make it. Many more end up with just maybe a greencard and a United states passport to boast of after spending 10 years to 20 years abroad and only live paycheck to paycheck and are even ashamed to go back home.

You sir are a wise man.

sureb0y:
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! another I regret coming to yankee/there's nothing here/it is easier to make it in Nigeria post. I wonder the Nigeria you're talking about o. For every bad thing you can say about what you're experiencing there in Yankee, I can say 4 things about the madness here in Nigeria. The same Nigeria where stupid people praise the leaders for doing the most basic thing they're supposed to do? You vote someone into office and you start thinking they're gods for doing their jobs? Ambode won't let us hear word because of streetlights in Lagos. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it is a bad thing, my point is the standard here in Nigeria is sooo low that we celebrate stupid things like that. streetlight? really? you'll see people celebrating 48 hours of uninterrupted power supply, new cars for the Police, etc. it's comical.

The same Nigeria where you can't trust the police to protect you? You have your rights violated effortlessly. Nigeria where a man can chase a woman out of his house after 20 years of marriage with nothing just because he's tired of the marriage? the same woman he forced to become a housewife o. The law in Nigeria is a joke. There was a law recently that the policemen should stop checking people's phones on the road. loool... make Naija policeman ask you to bring your phone make you do like mad person, you don ready to follow them go station and sleep for cell be that after you don chop countless slaps. Them fit set you up sef. I don tire sef to dey think of the stupid things wey dey naija. you even complained about weather, looooool call your people for Lagos and ask them how dem survive this easter period. No light, no fuel for gen, the heat sef na die. you come dey there dey complain of weather. when if e dey too hot, you fit on fan or ac anytime or if e dey too cold, you fit wear winter clothes or turn heater on (at a large cost, I know). Ogbeni!!! no make boys vex for you o. you even get funding to study abroad with your family supporting you with money. you come dey here dey complain. lool

"I am coming to Nigeria after my degree and don't ask me why"... okay o, I want to assume there's a 400k-a-month job already waiting for you without interview. It's your decision. Forgive me but in my opinion, most of the things you have complained about are very very basic... things you should overlook!!! Racism? weather? culture shock? food? lmao... Bro, abeg... there's something they call adaptation. They speak English in yankee, it's just your accent, with time... you'll improve and it's gonna get better. There are worse things to complain about Sir, these ones are just disappointing. Drive your 2002 Honda accord, Jam oyinbo man for Lekki wey dey drive G-Wagon make policeman dey there, you go see as Naija policemen go treat you like trash. They'd treat you in your own country like a slave and treat the foreigners like gods. so which racism you dey complain about? Loneliness? you are complaining about loneliness? loooool... smh.

Young boys in their 20's driving expensive cars and leaving you to wonder how they're doing it is called sleeping on a bicycle. it is everywhere. "Even when you probe them for more answers they are unwilling to let you know what they actually do for a living". so they should tell you because you're an FBI agent? lol... shine your eyes bro. You don't even know what they're doing but you're convinced it's something shady. na wa o. If them tell u now, you go say u no fit do am, you go cast them say e.g. Bolaji wey dey Texas, na him mama mate him dey marry and na because of money him marry the woman.

hopefully in 5-7 years time I must have saved up a lot and head back to Nigeria to start a business and start a new life. lmao... Bro, This statement is even contradictory, 1. for you to believe you MUST HAVE saved a lot in 7 years, it means you're expecting to make money in 7 years, and this in turn means bad as e bad, you still think it is possible to make a lot of money in Yankee despite as u dey complain. so make una no dey come up with these kind arguments like say na die. 2. you want to come and establish a business in Naija with your life savings? omo... bros, is this Nigeria you're talking about the same one in west Africa? I don't know you o, but this idea of "start a business in Nigeria", you better think am well. It comes with no guarantees.

Only a fool thinks the American dream is to enter Yankee and magically become a millionaire and start sending money down to your home country (I'm not calling you a fool o, don't get me wrong. I mean anyone who's expecting paradise as the American dream is on a long thing). A sensible person sees the dream as an opportunity to have a better life, a better standard of living. That's what it is, an opportunity. It comes with no guarantees. Don't put yourself under pressure to succeed at so so and so age, don't use the success of others as a yardstick to judge urs and condemn yourself. Do your own and learn how to make yourself happy without these materialistic things. Some people will watch Davido videos and how he spends money and be sad for weeks, asking God why they can't enjoy similar things.

Give yourself time, a lot of it. Learn to adapt and overlook many things. Don't lose the ginger after just a few obstacles. There are ups and downs everywhere. Roll with people who have been successful with the american dream and learn from them. Unless it's in the extreme form abeg make we hear word about this racism nonsense. I can call you a monkey, you would laugh. if white man call u monkey, you go vex say na racism. Bros if you get like 9 inches down there, enter gym... get six packs, powerful arms, better chest. drink agbo wella make you get better spinal cord. see as girls go dey chase you up and down. Overlook the negatives and focus on the positives. In this life, you make your own luck.

In summary and conclusion: No be everybody go make am for yankee, and no be everybody go make am for Naija. People can complain and complain over very basic things. some will complain over taxes like the electricity, roads, etc were provided by the greek gods. No be money dem use construct and maintain those things? Keep your expectations low so you won't get disappointed. The world isn't perfect. There's hardship everywhere, don't lose the ginger. Enjoy your life while you have it. Instead of complaining, ask people as e dey go and don't sleep on a bicycle.

I'm sorry to say but that is her experience and is not universal. All depends on her status when she went, her skills and experience etc. There are job that pay per hour and job that are salary based so her saying you only get paid per hour is totally wrong. There are even professional jobs that pay per hour as well but on an annual basis it is a lot of money, it just means they calculate rates per hour.

She saying you will suffer to make it in america is her experi ace again and not reflective of everyone. It's this same America that Indians relocate and rise to the top of companies like Google etc. I know many many Nigerians in solid jobs in America and other countries. I you compare specific job by job eg banker in America to banker in the Nigeria, Doctor in America to doctor in the Nigeria etc will you say they are same? We tend to compare people we know who maybe they were illegal and end up with not so good jobs and assume that's everyone in America.

Th manner you relocate also plays a part and the age eg the older you are looking harder it is to integrate properly into the system.

You can't be your own boss in America? Total bullshit. Capital does not know race. If you have a good idea it's easier to fund it in America than Nigeria and there are many many many companies founded by foreigners. Please go to silicon valley and see all the foreign owns start ups all over the place.

I'm sorry but your Aunty seems to have gotten stuck in a rut in America and there may be many reasons for that but don't say no one makes it there. What did you Aunty do in Nigeria before she went and would she have been a millionaire if she stayed in Nigeria?

Your last sentence sum up your mentality. You are happy to do things in Nigeria and get away with it, things you obviously know are wrong and yet you yearn for change in the country.

Jonathan2787:

BUT IN A NUTSHELL SHE TOLD ME I AM BETTER OFF IN NIGERIA IF I CAN BE EDUCATED AND MAKE BY BIENG SELF EMPLOYED, BECAUSE ALL THE GOOD THINGS I HEAR ABOUT US IS ONLY ENJOYED BY THIER CITIZENS EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT AMERICAN AND GETS A CERTIFICATE OF CITIZENSHIP, YOU WILL STILL SUFFER TO MAKE IT THERE, HINDRANCE EVERYWHERE, YOUR CERT IS NOTHING THERE, YOU CAN'T BECOME A BOSS OF A COMPANY THAT ISNT YOURS THERE, THE TRUTH IS YOU ARE ALWAYS A KING IN YOUR HOME, EVEN IF YOUR HOME IS HELL, BUT THE MOMENT A KING LEAVES HIS HOME FOR A FOREIGN LAND HE BECOMES A SLAVE TO THE KING IN THAT LAND, ITS BETTER I BE A KING IN NAIJA THAN BE A SLAVE ABROAD, HERE I DO THINGS FREELY WHICH WILL GET ME JAILED INSTANTLY THERE, A WORD IS ENOUGH FOR THE WISE.[/color][/b]

We seem to use the experience of a some people we know a road who are illegal to assume that's everyone's experience.

Of course if you are illegal in a country then life is not easy but for legal residents it's a different experience.

Someone he knows can't just file. He can only be filed for either by a US citizen spouse which is the quickest or green card spouse which can be about 2 years, or US citizen parents if under 18. If he has a US citizen child who is above 18 the child can file for him as well as that's fast as no quota.

Other options are brother of US citizen but that takes up to 10 years before your visa number is current.

You cannot just ask any U citizen you know to file for you.

MyLady11:
Another way is someone to file petition for you but only if you knw some1 who lives in d State and if such person is a citizen or with his or her green card, ask such person to file u a petition but it takes 1yr to get approve and can even be denied.

You are right about Latina and black voters not voting for Trump, but You don't get a green card 3 years after studies, you are eligible to work via OPT for 3 years for STEM graduates and during that time you get a job with an employer who can sponsor you for H1 visa and then file for a green card for you.

Time frame will depend on company policy i.e. some company policy is that you work with them 2 or 3 or not years on H1 before then file for green card for you which can take another year or 2.

That's one reason I why I feel trump will not win...he said some trashy stuff abt nigerians... (90% of nigerians...say over 3 million will not vote for him)

PropertiesRe: My Landlord Wants To Throw Me Out! Please Help! by ttmacoy: 12:04pm On Mar 17, 2016
When I read statements like this it just makes me realise how much religion holds this country hostage.

What the landlord is doing is illegal pure and simply but here we are trying to justify it with when God is trying to move you to a barren land.

That is part of the mentality that has led us to this state where everything goes with no care for law or order. We have laws in Nigeria don't we? Isn't it illegal for a landlord to evict a tenant withou due notice? Isn't it illegal to prevent tenants especially with children from using facilities in a house? The landlord has obviously committed a crime but hey just take it and go. You don't know it God is trying to take you from your barren land.

No he must stand up for his right and go report the landlord. It's this attitude of just take it and thank God that has led Nigeria to a country where everyone just does what they want with no penalty nothing.

There was a post on nairaland where a lady complained about sexual abuse by her boss but our response, just pray about it. A lady posted about a guy molesting her in a bus, our response just pray about it you don't know what God can do.

We justify everything bad now with the hope that it's God trying to make things better. I'm sorry but we have a long way to go before we develop the attitude that will make Nigeria great.

Please don't take this as a personal attack, it just makes me so mad at how far we have fallen as a nation.
