Osama10: Red flag how?
I had a UK residence permit when I went for my US visa & was granted. I would assume that VOs may view the exact same set of circumstances differently depending on their perception of you at the interview. Perhaps you presented better ties? Who knows. |

ladylco: How incredible? Oh yeah I did! for records, my first US visa was for conference and I was ask to show evidence that I paid for the conference as I mentioned the cost. This is first hand personal experience .....so what do you have to say about that?
Besides I never said what the VO said is wrong neither did I say that the VO's comment should not be listened too. Did you read my post at all? Wonder why you saved your acerbic comment for me rather than directing them to the VO who was far more pointed in his response to you. Your "first hand" information is useless in light of the response of an actual VO on this thread. |

Lyoncrescent: Red flag how. when i schooled in the UK, i was entitled to apply for a post study visa to replace my student visa.it was the norm then and an extension of the fresh talent scheme for students who schooled in scotland( you can google it). i had to leave 800 pounds in my uk account for three months and fill a form and all that. At no point was the balance allowed to go below 800 pounds which was the requirement. This was done from the end of my program in september till november. i applied for the post study visa with the bank statement and all in december and i got it in january. On the visa it is boldly written residence permit. same january i came back to naija on my own and visited the UK a couple of times for vacation till the visa expired.
Sorry for the epistle but just wanted to make things clear so you can explain the red flag at least for others who may be in a similar situation as i said i am not applying again All the detail above may have been useful to you but will not be relevant to the VO considering your US visa application. A residence permit may have been viewed as prior immigrant intent in another country, hence the need to demonstrate stronger ties. It is possible they viewed the residence permit as akin to a US green card (note that a US green card is also a stamped visa I-551). But take the above as my opinion, you are free to reapply and another VO may see things differently. |

Lyoncrescent: Hi all, I got the blue slip today. I work in a federal agency and earn about 360k monthly and had my masters degree in the UK after which I obtained a two year residence permit from which I returned back to Nigeria . The permit expired in 2012.I relocated to Nigeria as soon as I got my residence permit in but used it to visit the UK on a couple of ocassions as the immigration stamps would prove. I have also been to Dubai for vacation.I am the head of IT service Management in my organization
Transcript
Vo:morning. Passport please
Me: morning and gave him my new passport with no visas and th old one with visas. He accepted both
Vo: where are you go to in the USA
Me: I am going to new haven Connecticut to attend my sisters husbands graduation from Yale school of management, Yale university
Vo: where do you work
Me: told him and explained my duties as filled in my form and even mentioned some well known service providers I interact with in my office. Also mentioned I have been working there for four years.
Vo: what were you doing in the UK while scanning through my old passport
Me: I told him I schooled there for a year after which I returned to Nigeria. I only used the residence permit for visiting purposes to the UK when I came back to Nigeria after my masters.
Vo: are you married
Me: no I am not married
Vo: sorry you are not bla bla bla and handed me over a blue slip. He said something about ties I didn't really hear well.
I think the system allows vos to use discretion. This was my first time applying for a USA visa. No documents were checked. My colleague at work got his visa on Monday and he has never travelled out of the country before and he said he is going to attend his cousins graduation. my brother however got interviewed in a different window and got his visa approved for the same purpose with Dubai and Kenya being his travel history and my brother is not married too.My brother runs his own travel agency which he has done for three years. I think that's a good example of a positive discretion. I don't think I will be applying again as I don't have any other need to visit the USA at this moment .Will be going to Dubai instead for summer and Sun. God bless Nigeria. God bless America and everywhere else. You obtained a U.K. residence permit... red flag. |

If schools require a prerequisite, then you must take them. A physician assistant is almost treated as a doctor in some cases (and paid very well!) so yes, you can't avoid the added work. |

lilzcee: difficult asin u can't bribe anybody in that school, talkless of bribing to get admission? even people wey score 270 were not given admission, yeye guy Shouldn't we be celebrating that you cannot cheat or bribe in a school? The problem is that you don't have a defined study pattern targeted to your weakness. If you put off study till a week or two to exams, you won't do well... what worked best for me is spacing my study. Every day, take 2-4 hours to go through the principles discussed in class for that day, challenge yourself with questions on the subject, spend less time reading your class notes, instead read text books to understand the topic, then simply read your notes as a summary. I typically do not copy notes in class, I rather make my own notes of what I thought were the key highlights or concepts I did not understand so I can read up later. |

annichere: @TWoods, thanks for pointing that out, I really didn't know that law exists. So you are saying there's no point in trying
1. All your family is in the US 2. You already have an immigrant petition filed for you.
By law, the number 1 criteria a VO must decide on is that you are not an intending immigrant. Based on the two factors above, how do you expect them to INA Section 214(b). You can try, as obtaining a visa in your case is not impossible. However the fact that you already have an immigrant petition filed for you makes your chances almost slim to none. |

farmventure: The dude didn't even allow me finish my answer on where I would be visiting before he cut me short with another question, If the denial was as a result of travel history, I believe aside this, the guy didn't give me fair hearing during the interview, hardly smile and was just dishing out the blues . I know I prepared well, I read and read this thread more than when preparing for exams, did series of research and Wify grilled me with Several FAQ from transcripts(both successful & unsuccessful ones) here and from their web. Manhattan couldnt' be the sole place to visit during a 10days visit. If Manhattan is expensive, how do they determine if one can afford it or not, isn't that part of the reason for question asked by cbp at POE.
@LadyG: thanks for the advice, maybe would differ my vacation to around September when my wife would be on leave, then we can both go maybe Dubai or a Shenghen country, then we can both apply again because make we talkvtruth, America has lots of tourist attractions sights can behold, such experience would be awesome. Sometimes they've made up their minds after reading your application. At that point, the interview is simply a case of going through the motions. Have a better plan next time. Also someone raised the issue of traveling too often... there are not that many organizations that allow you to go on 10-day vacations 4/5 times a year. Even I would like to work for that company too! |

annichere: Good morning house. Please I need advice, assistance , etc. My whole family stays in the US and I'm the only one in Nigeria. I applied for a visit visa last year but was denied due to the fact that I'm single lady and have no ties in Nigeria. Now my sister who is a nurse in the US says she wants to apply to a school so I can do my masters degree which I have always wanted but I'm scared of rejection again. The issues are a) she has filed for me last year using my mum but that will take a very long time. b) I still do not have any ties here in Nigeria. c) She wants to apply to a school in the same State where she stays. NB she is my sponsor d) I am scared of rejection again because it might look like I want migrate which I'm not really interested in. I have gone through the thread and it seems my chances are kind of slim. Please kindly advice. Thanks 1. All your family is in the US 2. You already have an immigrant petition filed for you. VO:Do you have Friends or relative in the US Me:No
VO: Have you have traveled out of Nigeria Before Me: No
VO:Sorry......... Me: Collected it with thanks and walked away(Afterall, the funds meant for the trip is still in my coffers, no prob)
Note: My condition is, I am married with Kids and my Business is Genuine, had my all certificates(Both Academic & Business), he didnt even ask of any to verify, what i got is blue paper, what could be the problem, could it be ties or lack of travel history?
Please house assist on possible reason for denial.
Thanks. Just a general note. The VOs are Americans and know a lot about their country. Manhattan is a small place, expensive and their is not a lot to see there - well skyscrapers, Wall Street... you can see all that in an hour. The problem I see is that you had no serious plan with regard to your vacation. Sight seeing to manhattan doesn't mean much. |

Is it the white folks who ruined our country? Are they the ones who rape our resources to hide in Swiss banks while we go without power and potable water?

dotcomnamename: As long as the conference organiser did not indicate that the conference is for only locals, you're 100% free to apply. However, the VO has the final decision. For instance, there is a conference in US i recently scheduled an appointment for and i have confirmed if i am good to apply as i'm travelling from Dublin. I emailed them and i also gave them phone calls and i got positive reply. I'm the type that always make sure i provide more than required documents for visa applications, so i always communicate directly with conference organisers by email to confirm the validity & genuineness, where i am coming from to attend the conference. They always give me the best answer.
However, always try to contact the conference organiser and let the organiser know that you're coming from outside the state even though you have indicated that on your online conference registration form.
PLEASE NOTE: This is only what i've been doing myself.
Least i forgot, if anyone need 100% free conference, let me know, i will try find one for you. Not guarantee, but i will try. I've given just few people and some of them got their US visa with it. Once you should your conference are of interest i will contact you via nairaland mail if i get any for you or not. Pls don't send me pm about this, don't leave your contact details here. If you think i'm going too far in this regard pls do not hesitate to do the needful by exposing me here . Show your interest here and lets help ourselves yes lets help ourselves.. LadyGuinivere abi no be so? Happy weekend to you all! this is why the US embassy now denies conference goers willy nilly... they now realize most of them are simply a means to fraudulently obtain US visas. Even mr. coolcube himself is asking for conferences from you... with no regard as to whether it is of relevance to him or not. |

DimmyCho: If you keeep posting such to people, trust me you wl have people discouraged on here. I find that quite bizarre... that your life's decisions are governed by anonymous posts on a chat forum. There are clear instructions on how and how not to apply for a visa... the US embassy in Lagos also runs a very good consultation service specifically for international students seeking to study in the US. You get access to study prep materials, you also get one-on-one consulting with US public affairs employees who tutor you on how to select amajor, schools, tuition options, the process to obtaining an I-20 and a visa. It costs $200 and you are free to drop in anytime you want. You also have access to their computing resources. Here is the website - https://educationusa.state.gov/centers/educationusa-lagosFrankly saying you were "ignorant" of this process is an indication of how mentally lazy many in here are. For something that will cost you so much and maybe the defining point in your life, you would expect many would take the effort to research before committing their hard earned resources. But of course... it's easier to insult others. Good luck to you. |

I never knrw anything about Do It Yourself then. People no dey make mistake? You talk like youre perfect cos you got yours? People gave better suggestions and youre here saying this... I said I leave it to God. As no be life n death matter. If na my way , God go do am...next time ehn, just pass by, don't type. All visas are do it yourself. Forgetting to put a date of birth in a visa application is a mistake, indicating you were working, when you were clearly not - ostensibly to give yourself an edge in a visa application - is deliberate misrepresentation. Can we please stop this deceitful "it was a mistake" excuses? |
