shdemidemi: How rude can you be without substance to back your self acclaimed understanding! Show me where Peter tells you how to be saved by believing Christ died, he was buried and he resurrected. If you can't find it just be quiet and wallow in ignorance.
peter preached salvation by faith in 1 pt 1:5,8 acts 15:9, 11:43. Did you miss those passages?

Enigma: ^^ The bottom line is that the Church established by Jesus Christ can be found wherever two or three are gathered in His name; and that Church is not subject to the authority of some "pope"!

That Church does not need any other name except "the Church of Christ" or "the Christian Church".

That Church is not bound by or subject to denominations --- whether Roman Catholic or Cutlass Sharp Sharp Ministry etc etc

smiley
you quoted ignatius in your op, i recall he didnt share this veiw, or do you quote him only when it seems to suit you? A 'church' without ordained ministry. Weldone!

Evil Brain: The day a catholic gets sacked for doing something perfectly legal that his employer opposes for religious reasons; you'll be singing a different tune. You are basically arguing in favour of religious discrimination in the workplace and you don't even know it. I guess you are incapable of thinking objectively without your religious sentiments clouding your judgement.

Let me paraphrase Noam Chomsky: If you don't believe in equal rights for people you despise, then you don't believe in equal rights at all.
my dear, i would personally advocate equal right in my company and i believe the school would do the same, but in a religious school a pregnant unmarried lady will be fire the same for gay marriage.

those aren't doctrines they are practices. Mortification is preached but the method you use is your own personal practice. Mortify ur flesh as is compartible with ur state of life.

shdemidemi: my sister, I believe I have answered to the best of my understanding. Paul says 'I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation to anyone who believe'.

Adding to the requirement of salvation would be apostasy on my part. Why don't we live the man that believes but decides to continue in perpetual error to God. If the children of God don't comply to God by His word, they will comply through disaster. If anyone think he can use his body as a tool for sin because he is saved, he would definitely face the earthly consequences of his or her action.
but his sins whether repentant or unrepentant has no effect on his eternal salvation. Did i understand you correctly?

berni i have one question for you, if you know someone who has homosexual orientation, i.e is on no fault of his attracted to the same sex and is now born again and living chastely will you accept him as a brother or will you tell him everyday that he is going to hell because of his orientation?
The base of my question is; is the homosexual orientation a sin in itself or is it the homosexual sexual activity that is sinful

Evil Brain: You people are missing the point as usual.

Gay marriage is legal in California, so the union is valid no matter what the school says. The issue here is does an employer have the right to impose his religious beliefs on employees? Think very carefully before you answer. Should your muslim oga be allowed to sack you for eating pork, or not going to mosque on Fridays?

Religious people are far too willing to trample on the rights of others. That's the hypocrisy of religious people who somehow still believe that they are the victims of persecution when in reality they are the persecutors.
he has the right to marry who he wishes by law. The school has the right to proscribe the example they want to teach the students and the right to hire and fire. Afterall it is a religious school.

enigma you can play this game all day and claim that changing the sense of the word catholic from noun to adjective changes the church, that won't make it true. From ancient times the word catholic has been used by christians both as a noun and as an adjective, and never has the word sense implied a change or discontinuity of the church. Your anglican arguement has no base.
Christianity Etc › Re: On The Most Blessed Virgin Mary- Teachings Of The Early Church Fathers- by Ubenedictus(m): 6:48pm On Aug 30, 2013
Syncan: (1Tim 2:5) “There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ.”

The Catholic Church actually do acknowledge Christ to be our one and absolutely unique mediator who alone can reconcile us to the Father in a strict sense. Thus Christ qualification as our mediator is exhibited in two ways:
1) By his very existence on earth- In taking flesh, Christ united God and Man in His person, for He alone is both God and man.
2) By his ministry, suffering and eventual death on the cross, He paid the debt owed by man and conferred grace on sinful man. In this regards, Christ is our sole mediator.

However, if we take a look at the first verse of that chapter, it says:

(1Tim 2:1) "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men".

Here St. Paul calls us to intercession, yet we know that Christ continues to intercede, since (Heb 7:24-25) says: "But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them". St Paul knows this eternal Intercessory role of Christ, yet he exhorts the faithful to "Intercessions for all men" without fear of contradiction, it therefore means that we can participate in these aspect of Christ's ministry according to the level of "bonding" between us and Jesus without anyone feeling that recognition is taking away from Christ. It is like Jesus saying in (Matt 23:8 ) "But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master(teacher), even Christ; and all ye are brethren". Yet we see (James 3:1) telling us there are authentically, many masters(teachers) in the church. In deed,(Eph 4:11) says:"And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers". St. Paul calls himself same thing, even in that same chapter of 1Tim 2 in verse 7. The Issue here is to understand that members of the body of Christ(The Church) who participate in teaching and mediating/interceding do not take away from Christ as One Teacher and Mediator, for they are in a sense Christ, and serve to establish His offices of Teacher and mediator in Him.That's why the blessed Virgin Mary,St. Paul,Ubenedictus, Italo, Maria-Gorreti,damerry,Cameroonpride,et al could teach and Intercede/mediate for me, "...for it is Christ who lives (teaches/mediates) in them..." (Gal 2:20).
this is exactly what i wanted to see, weldone syncan.
@ superior1, i'll like you to show that this interpretation is wrong with good explanation. Are christain nolonger in christ? Or is it that christians can nolonger share in the intercesory ministry of christ? Pls explain

Logicboy03: I am happy that the catholic regulars avoided this thread.
See how some anti-catholic protestants are cheering the op because they are too lazy to do fact checking of a long article.
Read the whole luaghable article and you will see that there is not one difference between the catholic and roman catholic church that the op so vehemently claims.
The op fails at grammar so hard. Conflating the difference between the difference between the adjective form and the verb form of catholic with the (non)existent difference between the catholic and roman catholic church.
Lastly, the op also misinterprets the evolution of the catholic church as being two different churches just to say that the roman catholic church did not compile the bible.
Who then compiled the bible, sir? We all know that it was never a protestant church that did it, so you will never get any reasonable person o follow ypur false minstry.
In nomine patri et filis et sancti spiritus. Amen
This mass is ended, go in peace...Enigma.
it is usual, it is the natural anglican arguement. They confuse the development of the church in their heads. The long story above is like saying each time the name changed it means the church changed. It is illogical sematics. Enigma knows how to tell a story to those who want to hear a story.

Pastor AIO: The only people that I know that are ready to kill you for suggesting that the story of Adam and Eve is a myth are the Pentecostals and Evangelicals. I believe that everybody else understands it for what it is and tries to glean the truth that the story is trying to communicate.

It is the same with the Gospels. Some people will start to attack you if you say that the Gospels are not strictly History. But the fact is that ALL of the gospels, Matthew Mark Luke and John cannot be historically true because they contradict each other. Was Jesus silent when he was carrying the cross or did he speak? He can't have done both at the same time. one gospel has him speaking, another has him silent. What did Jesus say on the cross? What did he say to the thieves on the cross?
Each gospel writer has a theological point that he is trying to make (I shudder to use the word Agenda, lol). If you discard seeking the theological point and merely see it as a recording of history then you must be prepared to dance some complicated backflips and logic suspension. And you will miss great spiritual insights.

It is obvious that the first and second chapters of Genesis are two different myths joined together. It was obvious to those who wrote it. If they were claiming to write history I'm sure they would have made more effort to make the myths into one singe narrative.
this is a good one, the bible is not a history book, it contain both myths, allegory, symbol...history, all of these trying to talk about the relationship between man and God. The aim of genesis 1and2 it to show that God creates and sustians creation and the problem of evil. It is a may to a large extent be mythical account of religious truth.
I don't know why people can't understand that.
Christianity Etc › Re: Catholic Cardinal Says Adam And Eve Didn’t Exist by Ubenedictus(m): 7:42pm On Aug 20, 2013
Evil Brain: Right the Catholic church is the victim of persecution. The same Catholic church that was torturing and burning people alive left, right and centre for over a thousand years until they finally lost political power. The same church that single handedly caused the dark ages in Europe. The same church whose religious intolerance has virtually wiped out traditional religions in Europe, Africa and South America. The same church that commissioned the crusades. The same Catholic church that sanctioned the brutal sacking of Constantinople, a Christian city whose only crime was being a member of the eastern orthodox church. The same Catholic church that mistreated European Jews for centuries and forced those in Italy to live in ghettos. The same church that supported Hitler and Mussolini during WW2.

Catholics are victims of persecution, that's why their priests can råpe children for decades without fear of prosecution and still retire with full pensions even when they are identified by multiple victims. That's why governments around the world refuse to investigate their shady financial dealings, or prosecute them like the international child molestation ring they are. That's why their former pope is being allowed to end his days outside of prison despite conclusive proof that he was the head of the conspiracy to cover up child abuse and protect pëdõphile priests. Those poor Catholics. Who is going to save them from all the persecution?!

Evil Brain: You can't even lie in a sensible manner. So Galileo hadn't conclusively proven that the earth moves round the sun abi?

The facts of what happened are well established. Stop trying to rewrite history to make your religion look less silly.

If the Christians had any interest in finding the truth, they would have built their own telescopes and investigated his findings. Instead they arrested him, threatened him with torture, found him guilty of heresy, banned his books and kept him under house arrest for the rest of his life. If he hadn't pretended to agree with their stůpïd, bible based delusion that the earth was the centre of the universe, they would have burnt him alive.

Evil Brain: To be fair to the Catholics, they've been far less willing to contradict science than the Pentecostals. Pope John-Paul actually endorsed the theory of evolution back in the day and acknowledged the big bang theory. There are Catholic priests making serious contributions in many fields of science and the church doesn't seem to be discouraging them.

I guess they must have learnt their lesson from the time they made complete föõls of themselves claiming the sun goes round the earth and forcing Gallileo to agree with them on pain of death.
actually catholics have always made headway in science, the fathers and grand fathers of many branches of science are usually catholics and most times priests and bishop.
Faith doesn't repulse science.

omobarBlog: (Yahoo News) In comments that may shock some staunch Catholics, Cardinal George Pell has described the biblical story of Adam and Eve as a myth.
He appeared alongside renowned evolutionary biologist and atheist, Professor Richard Dawkins, on the ABC’s Q&A program last night.
Cardinal Pell said the existence of Adam and Eve was not a matter of science but rather a mythological account.
“It’s a very sophisticated mythology to try to explain the evil and the suffering in the world,” he said.
“It’s a religious story told for religious purposes.”
According to Genesis, God created Adam and Eve as the first man and woman and all people are descended from them.
Cardinal Pell’s explosive comments came after he was questioned about evolution.
He said it was impossible to say when there was a first human.
It is widely accepted in the scientific community that life on Earth has evolved over about four billion years
source:http://omobar..com/2013/08/catholic-cardinal-says-adam-and-eve.html
actually he may say genesis 1 is a religious myth, though stories d work of God is outline, d bible isn't a science book, it is d relationship of man with God.
But catholic theology afirms that adam and eve, (whatever their real names were) were historical figures, to some extent i'm a bit suprised.

Like Barth reminded his generation of the bankruptcy of protestant liberalism, this generation should be informed of the bankruptcy of Pentecostal materialism and the need to restore some form neo-orthodoxy hinged on the the liberty of the Spirit.
luther and calvin both caused the heaviest deviation from what was considered christian believe, aquina became an authority in theology and agustine may be considered father of western theology, before today i haven't read about bart, it all depends on your perspective.

shdemidemi: He actually did in many occasions, he personalise this gospel of grace like no one else

Romans 2:16

In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. (This means you and I will be judged strictly by this gospel of grace, that is if we believe this is the word of God)

1 Timothy 1:11

According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

At a point he had to go defend this gospel of liberty and spirit of life in Christ in Galatians 2:2

"And I went up by revelation, (the Lord spoke it. Evidently the Lord told Paul, `Now Paul it's time to get up to Jerusalem and confront the Twelve. We have to settle this matter, otherwise we'll never be able to move out into the Gentile world.') and communicated unto them that gospel (if you don't mind, underline the word `that.' You might say that's not an important word, but in this verse it's all important. Because it was that Gospel ) which I preached among the Gentiles,..."

Not just that Jesus was the Christ as Peter preached, but now that he also died for your sins, He was buried, and He rose from the grave for you. I can boldly say Paul's gospel ends at rapture while the gospel proponed by the rest is associated to the great tribulation.
it is quite unfortunate that you lack understanding, those verses doesn't say the gospel entrusted to paul was not given to the others. you err.
and peter preached the bolded. try again.
