Christianity Etc › Re: Pope Benedict XVI Cured My Cancer by Ubenedictus(op): 9:26pm On Sep 04, 2013
plaetton: I agree with you hundred percent. The tragedy of betrayed trust affects everyone and lingers for a long time.

So, you do understand why someone who does not subscribe to religious faith would sieze upon this millenia long system of high crimes against children to highlight my own beliefs that religion is not founded on the virtuous and high moral principles that it claims, but on the opposite, as clearly exposed by the ongoing scandals involving priests: the trusted custodians of religious morality.
is 'millenia' long not over streching it?
And lastly, though i don't support i almost understand the interest of atheist in using opportunities like these to bash religion. On another note i think it is a fallacious arguement to claim religion is wrong because humans fail to practice its principle. Claiming religion is wrong because many do not practice it well is really bad arguement.

plaetton: Imaginary, you say?
hhmmm

I am guessing that is what, or part of what eventually got him booted out.

Did you say he did more than any other card to protect children?
Hhhmm.
At least you do tacitly admit that children needed protection from holy pious men of god.
it is imposible to boot out a pope, and yes i openly admit that the lives of so clerics have been scandalous to put it mildly. About your reference to 'holy pious men', i wish to say that the church isn't a den of saints, it is a hospital for sinners, it is a shameful thing when those who are suppose to be doctors have a stinking and contagious cancer. I didn't deny that some clerics were found wanting in their dealings. But your blame throwing parade is actually a witch hunt.

Sunday Etuoka: children of God i like to know if one can go to heaven after repentance without restitution
no! It is imposible to repent and not give restitution, that is why you should give thanks to christ who by his death made total restitution to divine justice for your sins. Inasmuch as with a repentant heart you confess your sins unto the lord then be assured that by the merit of his death on calvary he has made full restitution to divine justice for your sins and granted you forgiveness. Anything else is icing on the cake.

Peace, God loves you
Christianity Etc › Re: Similarities Between Islam And Catholicism by Ubenedictus(m): 8:03pm On Sep 04, 2013
tidytim: Similarities Between Islam and Catholicism The Roman Catholic Church and Islam Connection

1. Both The Roman Catholic Church and Islam believe that only they are the one true church/religion.

2. The Roman Catholic Church and the Islam require mandatory fasting.

3. The Roman Catholic Church worships, prays to and gives titles of God to Mary. Islam highly esteems Mary and she is mentioned 34 times in the Qu'ran.

"Even the infidel Muhammed glorifies Mary in his Koran, saying, 'The angels shall say to Maryam, "Allah has chosen thee; he has made thee exempt from all stain'". The Marian (Roman Catholic) Bible

4. The Roman Catholic Church and Islam base their salvation on a complicated system of works and deny salvation by faith alone. There is no assurance of salvation in either religion.

5. Both cults deny the Biblical view of the Atonement. The Roman Catholic Church doctrine dictates that one must go to Purgatory to have his sins purged, Jesus just paved the way. The Muslims believe their works will save them but will not know until Judgment Day. This is because there is no atonement for sin, and God's grace does not exist.

6. The Roman Catholic Church claims visions and apparitions in an effort to add false doctrine. Muhammad claimed to be purified as a child by angels. He claimed to receive revelations from Archangel Gabriel.

7. The Roman Catholic Church uses a rosary for their prayers, Islam uses prayer beads. The rosary/prayer beads are concepts taken from paganism.

8. The Pope is the vicar or substitute of Christ for the Roman Catholic Church. In Islam, Muhammad is called the last and final Messenger of God, the successor to Jesus.

9. The Roman Catholic Church and Islam have their own divorce system. The Roman Catholic Church grants anullments and Islam allows a man to divorce his wife by telling her she is divorced.

10. Islam rejects the Trinity doctrine, the Deity of Christ, salvation by grace through faith and teaches that Christians should be killed. However, the Roman Catholic Church accepts them and believes that they are offered salvation because of their faith in Abraham.

11. Both church organizations believe that leaving their church will result in eternal damnation.

12. The Roman Catholic Church and Islam share a hatred for the Jews.

13. The Roman Catholic Church and the Islam base some of their doctrine on pagan traditions. For The Roman Catholic Church the traditions of a goddess, rosary, pope, relics, purgatory, transubstantiation, praying to dead people, and idol worship are all based on paganism. The Allah of Islam was actually a pagan god, and not even the major deity.

14. The Roman Catholic Church and Islam have added books to support false doctrine. The Roman Catholic Church has added the Apocrypha and Islam the Qu'ran.

15. The Roman Catholic Church priest system (including Popes) has a history of sexual abuse of women and children. Islam has a history of (including Muhammad) sexual abuse of women and children.

16. Both religions believe in using FORCE to spread their version of the one true god to the unbelievers.

17. Both religions believe in a union with the state or of using the police powers of the state to compel obedience to their tenets.

18 Both religions have a "holy" shrine in which the believers are taught to look to as their headquarters

e.g. Mecca and the Vatican.
go and do a little research, then come back with a list without lies.

Here we go again.

The trumpets of imminent pious fraud are sounding.
They have started flying the kite for the future sainthood of this pedophile protector, Ratzinger.

What about all those molested children that he failed to protect?.
What will they be cured of?

What a world we live in.
Jesus must be crying in his grave, sorry, I meant hid seat in heaven.

Religion is madness.
if you ask me ratzinger did more to protect children than any other card during his time.
Your accusations are imaginary.
Christianity Etc › Pope Benedict XVI Cured My Cancer by Ubenedictus(op): 6:00pm On Sep 04, 2013
A young American – who is now 19 and in his second year at university – claims he was cured of a chest tumour thanks to Ratzinger, who met the boy at an audience in Rome last year. Ratzinger listened to his story and placed his hand on the boy’s chest where the tumour was. Peter Srisch and his family appeared on Denver-based KUSA TV and confirmed their belief publicly.

Peter was 17 when doctors diagnosed him with a chest tumour after doing an X-Ray. "He had a chest x-ray and it revealed a softball sized tumour in his chest. It was determined that it was stage four non-Hodgkin's lymphoma," Laura Srsich, Peter's mother, said.

Peter was being treated at Colorado Children’s Hospital and while doctors tried to do what they could to help him fight the disease, he was also being looked after by the U.S. non-profit Make-a-Wish Foundation. The foundation works in about 50 countries across the world, offering assistance, including psychological support to children and young people with life-threatening medical conditions and granting each of them one wish. The Make-a-Wish Foundation was established in 1993 and has a strong presence in English-speaking countries but not only.

Laura Srsich said that when she spoke to Peter about it, the first wish that came to his mind was: 'I'd love to go meet the Pope in Rome.” His wish was relatively easy to grant and so a year ago, in May, Peter and his mother attended one of Benedict XVI’s General Audiences in St. peter’s Square. They met and spoke to him and the encounter had a powerful effect on Peter. "When I got up to actually talk to him I was struck by how human he was. It was a humbling experience for me to see how humble he was,” Peter said. The Pope listened to Peter talk about his trip and his illness. The boy then gave Ratzinger a lime green wristband with the words "Praying for Peter” printed on it. Ratzinger reciprocated by blessing him.

But according to Peter and his family this wasn’t just any blessing; or at least it was very effective. "Then he blessed me. He put his hand right on my chest where the tumour had been. He didn't know where the tumour was, but he put his hand right there," Peter explained.

A year has gone by and Peter has made a full recovery from cancer, he is in his second year at university and one day hopes to be ordained a priest. Benedict XVI’s resignation as Bishop of Rome and Pope only strengthened the impression Peter was left with after their meeting. In Peter’s eyes, Benedict’s gesture showed he put the Catholic Church above himself and his personal needs. A very humble gesture. “I'm going to remember him as one of the most humble people in the world, especially by this last act he is doing," Peter said.

A similar healing case was reported during John Paul II’s pontificate. An elderly Jewish American man was apparently cured of a brain tumour after attending a “private” morning mass with John Paul II and taking part in the Eucharist.

The name protestant should be scraped off,who are we protesting against? angry
sorry if that seem to be the case, my aim was to show that the teaching alledged to christemmbassy isn't exactly new or weird but a part and parcel of the protestant package.

i would also prefer the protestant adjective because the reformers gloried in the title. protesting the catholic church was their aim hence they loved to be called protestants, although i'll prefer to address you guys as separated brethren but for the sake of this discussion i'll maintain the older title.

Besides your hazardly pasted article has no source.
i believe syncan has refined the article and pasted the source. your claim that protestant don't follow luther is laughable, his doctrine of sola scriptura and sola fide remain the bedrock of mainline protestanism. a protestant university prof and pastor once said, if sola fide is wrong then he would be in rome doing penance, ofcourse he was simply repeating luthers claim that the catholic church rise or falls on sola fide.

oh, don't worry i'll conceed that point, you don't follow luther, you only follow his teachings.

it is a pity that you feel this way, but all i wrote above is true, once saved always saved is the doctrine of the reformers calvin and co, if you know anything about calvin and the reformation you would not have tried to argue.
--
Pentecostals don't follow luther, they follow the BIBLE & the apostles. The apostes are the true pioneers of christianity & not the catholic church. The apostles by the holy ghost pioneered pentecostalism. They didn't poineer the catholic church filled with mary idolization & other unbiblical & unapostolic dogmas.
protestants can repeat this till they are blue in the face but the fact remains that the last of the apostles died around 100 AD and the reformation started in the 16th century bringing forth doctrrines that were totally unheard of in the first 1500yrs of christianity. Catholics have a stronger claim to the apostles, doctrines like OSAS reminds me of what scripture says 'in the latter days some will abandon the faith and follow decieving spirits'1tim4:1. So for 1500yrs of christianity the holyspirit didnt teach OSAS but invented that doctrine in the time of calvin abi?
Go back and take a long look at the doctrines protestanism was founded on, then you can tell me how apostolic they are.

--
SUBTLE summary of their type of Grace is GO ON AN SIN BECAUSE MEN ALL HAVE SINFUL NATURE & CHRIST BLOOD ALREADY WASHED ALL FUTURE SINS COMMITED neglecting the fact that christs death also destroys the nature, tendency & propensity to sin if we pray through to it no matter how long.
this isn't some subtle heresy, this is the grounds on which the protestant reformation was built built on, the doctrine of faith alone, absolute grace(once saved always saved) and penal substitution go hand in hand. Luther once adviced his disciple to sin and sin strongly because inasmuch as they have faith God can't condem them for their sins. Calvin and co developed that teaching.
That teaching isn't subtle and it isn't new, it is as old as protestanism and the very basis of reformed theology

The ish with the prodigal son is only applicable to one who has forfeited all his bad deeds and made a decision to do right going forward.

If one claims to be born again but still continues in sin, the individual is no better than the next man who aint born again.

Any one who claims to be born again but continues in sin without repenting, does wrong and that wrong will ALWAYS be viewed as sinful in the eyes of God.
