Christianity Etc › Popes First Angelus Address by Ubenedictus(op): 4:20pm On Mar 18, 2013
Brothers and sisters, hello! After the first meeting last Wednesday, today I can again offer my greeting to everyone! And I am glad to do it on Sunday, the Lords day! This is beautiful and important for us Christians: coming together on Sunday, greeting each other, talking with each other like we are doing now here in the piazza; a piazza that, thanks to the media, has the dimensions of the world. On this fifth Sunday of Lent, the Gospel presents us with the episode of the adulterous woman (cf. John 8:1-11), who Jesus saves from the death sentence. Jesus attitude is striking: we do not hear words of scorn, we do not hear words of condemnation, but only words of love, of mercy, that invite us to conversion. Neither do I condemn you: go and sin no more! (8:11). Well, brothers and sisters, the face of God is that of a merciful father, who always has patience. Have you thought about Gods patience, the patience that he has for each of us? That is his mercy. He always has patience, patience with us, he understands us, he waits for us, he does not weary of forgiving us if we know how to return to him with a contrite heart. Great is the mercy of the Lord, the Psalm says. These last several days I have been able to read a book by a cardinal Cardinal Kasper, a smart theologian, a good theologian on mercy. And it did me much good that book, but dont think that I am advertising the books of my cardinals! It is not that way! But it did me much good, much good... Cardinal Kasper said that hearing the word mercy, this word changes everything. It is the best word we can hear: it changes the world. A little mercy makes the world less cold and more just. We need to rightly understand this mercy of God, this merciful Father, who has a lot of patience ... Let us remember the prophet Isaiah, who says that even if our sins are bright red, Gods mercy can make them white as snow. Mercy is beautiful! I remember, when I had just become a bishop, in the year 1992, Our Lady of Fatima had just arrived in Buenos Aires and there was a big Mass for the sick. I went to hear confessions at that Mass. And near the end of the Mass I got up, because I had to administer holy oil. An old lady came to me, a humble lady, very humble, over 80 years old/ I looked at her and I said to her: Grandma, because in our country this is what we call old people: Grandma do you want to go to confession? Yes, she said to me. But if you havent sinned..., [I said]. And she said to me: We have all sinned... . But maybe the Lord does not forgive them... [I replied]. The Lord forgives everything, she told me, certain of what she was saying. But how do you know that, madam? If the Lord did not forgive everything, [she said], the world wouldnt exist. I felt like asking her, Tell me, madam, did you study at the Gregorian? because thats the wisdom that the Holy Spirit gives: interior wisdom about the mercy of God. Let us not forget this: God never wearies of forgiving us, never! So, father, whats the problem? Well, the problem is that we grow weary, we do not want to, we tire of asking for forgiveness. He never tires of forgiving, but we, at times, we tire of aski ng forgiveness. Let us never tire, let us never tire! He is the loving Father, who always forgives, who has that heart of mercy for all of us. And we too learn to be merciful with everyone. We invoke the intercession of Our Lady who held in her arms the Mercy of God made man. Now let us all together pray the Angelus. [Following the recitation of the Angelus, the Holy Father greeted those present in Italian.] I offer a cordial greeting to all the pilgrims. Thanks for your welcome and for your prayers. I ask you to pray for me. I renew my embrace of the faithful of Rome and I extend it to all of you, who come from various parts of Italy and of the world, and to those who are joining through different media. I chose the name of the Patron of Italy, St. Francis of Assisi, and that reinforces my spiritual bond with this land, where as you know my family has its origins. But Jesus has called us to be part of a new family: his Church, this family of God, walking together along the way of the Gospel. May the Lord bless you, may Our Lady protect you. Do not forget this: the Lord never wearies of forgiving! We are the ones who weary of asking for forgiveness. Have a good Sunday and a good lunch!
Christianity Etc › Re: @Goshen360: Justification - A Discourse I'd Like You To Consider. by Ubenedictus(m): 3:41pm On Mar 18, 2013
shdemidemi: I sort of see it differently though.
I believe Jesus died for the sin I will commit tomorrow. If i really understand how He bought me from the sin market, it humbles me rather than it being a license to go committing more sins. But if I decide to go the other way of sinning, I believe there are earthly consequences--which does not affect my justification through Christ.
On a flip side I cannot stop being a sinner. I can never be righteous (nobody can) in this flesh.
Cos that is how I am wired.
I believe that is why God gave me a gift.
A gift(grace) I don't deserve instead of a wage (law) that I can't fulfill.
I want us to really look at this together.
this is the once saved always saved teaching
Christianity Etc › Re: @Goshen360: Justification - A Discourse I'd Like You To Consider. by Ubenedictus(m): 3:39pm On Mar 18, 2013
Goshen360: First, I do not think a Christian SHOULD CONTINUE to commit the SAME SIN. However, if such begins to happen, such believer have allowed sin and flesh to rule and enslaved.

Such mind is dead and silenced towards the word and Spirit of God. Such mind has then been given as a reprobate to the devil. Such needs to seek the face of God and come to REPENTANCE.
does ur definition of repentance involves 'rejustification'
Christianity Etc › Re: @Goshen360: Justification - A Discourse I'd Like You To Consider. by Ubenedictus(m): 3:25pm On Mar 18, 2013
Goshen360: 24Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. 25For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, 26for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus. Romans 3 >> New Living Translation

Justification first finds its ground in Christ's righteousness. The means is by - faith (Rom. 5:1, 4-5). The evidence is shown by - good works (James 2:21-24). True faith, living faith will express itself outwardly by good works. Apostle Paul states in Rom. 4:2, "For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say?" This is a good question. Let’s look at the answer.

Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness. Romans 4:3-5

There's a divine exchange for righteousness of God with our faith or believe in the finished work of Christ. It is on that ground we're justified with God. If we go to Gen. 4:10, we find that Abraham was justified before he was circumcised. This all occurred before his son Isaac was born so he had the righteousness that God gives by faith only. In Romans 4:23-25 we read,

"Now it is not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him, but for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered for our offenses and was raised again for our justification."

It's not baptism or works that justify us, but by faith,[\b] our works are all acts of faith, which one must have beforehand in order to do them. We see, biblically, that our faith is alive before our baptism. In the act of baptism, and after baptism, in our works. Works flow out of a true faith. When we say we receive salvation by faith alone it is referring to being the only conduit to the grace of God. We are saved by faith but it is not alone - it is accompanied by works being expressed out of our faith. Our works have no merit before God for salvation; however, we are created in Christ to do good works. Faith is the active principle in every aspect of one's Christian life. Romans 14:23 says, [b]"Whatever is not of faith is sin, therefore all is by faith." The Bible never condemns faith alone but a faith that is dead, an empty profession. Its inward deadness is demonstrated by its lack of outward life. Faith that is not alive, without works, that faith is not saving faith.
the bolded seems incomplete. it is not baptism or works or faith that justifies us but GOd who imputs the justice/merit/righteous of Christ on the sinner. Faith in Christ and baptism are preconditions.

It is clear through the example of Abraham's life that the works spoken of by James justify the believer in the demonstrative sense only. Christ's work justifies in the procuring sense. The Savior is a person and it is His work that one must believe in to be justified (legally declared righteous). We are not justified before God from what we do. One's own works will not justify anyone. It is God’s grace through faith, it is a gift. When sanctification and justification are confused, it robs from someone the sure foundation which they are to build on. Since Christ is the sure foundation and there is no other, we must build on His finished work or else our works are not wrought in Christ.
you seem uncertain the bolded almost contradict. and i'll like you to explain demonstrative justification.

Christianity Etc › Re: My Problem With Catholism-An Introspection by Ubenedictus(m): 11:03am On Mar 18, 2013
Reyginus: italo, the moment the tag 'catholic' began to appear with the 'church', it became denominational. Their was never the need for 'catholic' in the first church, because it was evident in the life. Certainly, if you hold the catholic church compiled the bible, you're indirectly subscribing to the existence of other churches in that era. That is not true. This notion I think calls to mind the statement by protestants that the catholic church and not the church tortured the people who challenged unquestionable beliefs in the classic era. That's a way to run from taking responbility, if you ask me.
An agreement reached by the members of an organization cannot be said to be the brain child of a selected few. That's what you're trying to do.
I love this church so much. Especially for its ability to resist the immorality in present day churches. But it has its flaws too(though isolated) in this respect.
sorry even at d time wen d bible was been compiled d church already had a distinct name she was called catholic, and there were already heresy at that time
