olujastro: Not surprised at this; a combination that happens when a country relies on revenue from commodities like oil and it crashes, and bad governance/corruption/mismanagement is the order of the day.
I always tell people that Nigeria has done very well economically compared to its colleagues that were victims of the same oil price slump; Angola and Venezuela. CNN's Amanpour specifically mentioned these 3 countries in 2014.
Before the 2014/15 oil prices crash:
1 USD = 100 Angolan Kwanza. Today it's = 255. (155% loss of value) 1 USD = N200. Today it's N360. (80% loss of value) 1 USD = 10 Vef. Today it's 120,000 Vef. (1.200,000% loss of value)
It’s easy to see where our currency would have headed if the massive looting was not halted in 2015.
It's time to grow a productive economy built on quality infrastructure and subsequently industrial boom rather than an economic growth that was tied to high oil prices under PDP governments. point of correction massive looting was not stopped in 2015, it continues till this day The reason why Venezuela took a big hit is because they are a socialist economy, and the money is no longer there to finance such system luckily Nigeria is not socialist if it was, Nigeria would have collapsed long before What Nigeria needs as you have rightly said is to get productive And we also need to send the dullard back to daura and get a better president We also need a govt that will support the private sector. My condolence to Venezuela The worst is yet to come |

Therefore, what we need is an incorruptible president, nothing more, nothing less. what is this one saying What we really need is to strengthened institutions to fight CORRUPTION which the dullard in aso rock has not provided what should have been his concern is saving the economy on which he failed woefully in. millions of jobs lost plus capital flight But what can I say tho Nigeria js filled with ignorant folks |

If they are running, then why are they building their biggest residential investments in their villages so they can return to ? Do you spend hundreds of millions on property investment in somewhere you are running from?
Abeg, don't quote me again. I talk am say you no get sense.

there is a reason for the fight among igbos In Ibadan for the Ezendigbo title Do you know the population of Yoruba folks in onitsha? aba or even enugu? (well not too much in enugu sha, but onitsha own is something else) Migration is not an "Igbo thing" or just an "aboki" thing as many think Yoruba folks migrate too even in ph and uyo |

You must respect other people's choices as long as it doesn't infringe on your own rights. exactly But my grouse tho is that religious tolerance should be promoted up north too But apart from that I have no problem with a Muslim Igbo person Your life your choice |

This is the same reason why Nigerians have not been able to renegotiate their oneness,,,after 100 years. In stead, you hear things like "it will never be well with Lord Lugard"
Blacks like to blame others for their woes. Yea black man running away from problems he can fix is always his trade Mark That can change tho |

Nowenuse: That to a large extent is because of state autonomy in the US. Every state controls it rescources and makes its own independent laws over there.
State/ Regional autonomy would have made Nigeria workable to a great extent. Thank God someone who is thinking With real state autonomy, many states will be better off That is in theory sha But if we fact it in the corruption that has eaten the system Even state autonomy may fail |

verygudbadguy: That's not what I am insinuating man. Brexit, referendum that happened in Scotland. Those are what I am referring to.
If we want to disintegrate like I suggested, we should toll the path of the civilised like Britain. They vote peacefully on every vital decision that would affect the populace at large. fair enough But we have a vast ignorant and unexposed population will they understand the consequence of what they are voting for? How about we have a reakurt check let us really weigh what we stand to gain and lose from both staying together and splitting into smaller countries Then we make our decision on that |

TheAlchemist: I believe because we have failed to practice true federalism, this is why the chant for disintegration is on the increase. We need to ensure less concentration of power at the center and allow all federating unit to develop at their own pace, without interference from Abuja. this really is the solution to Nigeria's problem |

verygudbadguy: Thank you. The earlier we start seeing some of these problems as macro and not limited to a particular region, the better.
No region has monopoly of violence, hate, aggression, talent, resources or wealth. I was a pro- one Nigeria but I have come to a realization that we can't work as a people. Our upbringing and mentality are different. It will make better sense if we can disintegrate peacefully like its done in the civilized climes like Britain. Britain did not disintegrate o Who told you that Upbringing and mentality difference is not enough to scatter the country The different states in America have different mentality They are NOT the same Utah na Mormon state California na liberal/freestyle state The deep south has more conservative people etc Yet they are still together working it out I believe eventually Nigeria will become a loose federation But the old generation have to die first |

tensazangetsu20: That's what the Europeans came and did in Africa. They created it for themselves so they could exploit the natives. Put together tribes who have even fought for years in one location. Read about the Berlin convention and this happened only in Africa. It didn't happen in Asia and the middle east. The people in the southern part of Nigeria could live together if they overcame all differences and really tried to but the north is a cancer. The same north produces two of the largest terror groups on the planet. Home to drug addicts, highest level of illiteracy and poverty despite ruling the country for more than 40 years and they still want to rule . How would it move forward with people like this? How? Look at India and look at Pakistan and who is doing better today. Nigeria needs to split IMHO. I would prefer is splits into two parts northern and southern Nigeria The problem is that IF Nigeria splits, it CANNOT split into just north and south. It will break into pieces The thing is that the north has been suffering from neglect, But I see things have started changing, with the M illennials there modernising But those guys really need to get their acts together especially the north west |

tensazangetsu20: Did Nigeria exist before the British came? Did the British ask for permission from the natives before creating this country. Why should we all be forced to live as one and sing kumbaya telll me one country created in the 19th century that was created by permission Or is it not our neighbour Ghana who is also a British creation that is moving ahead Is Kenya not a "British creation" too? What of South Africa ? Was there a country like south Africa before the Europeans came That is a null point The founding fathers agreed that Nigeria should gain independence TOGETHER and that alone absolves Britain from any blame Assuming the political elite did not manipulate and knock our heads together, would Nigeria be in this shape? |

Look at them running their mouth break Nigeria break Nigeria As if that would solve anything The only point the senator made tho is the point that the different ethnic groups come together to have a serious discussion But then, who will represent each ethnic group in this discussions? Nigeria is not breaking anytime soon, all ye break Nigeria apologists should note that Or you think Nigeria will split into 2, 3 or even 5? In the event Nigeria splits, it split into at least 30. How will the armoury in Nigeria's name be shared? What of government assets? What of the external reserve? What of our professional bodies? Who gets what? What gives you the assurance that the splintered countries will be better off How do we deal with citizenship matters when the country splits (an Igbo guy who was born and bred in the north will be perceived as a citizen or a foreigner? What of the Yoruba guy born and bred in ph? ) Nobody has brought concrete answers to all these, all they are shouting is break Nigeria But anyways wetin concern me |
