butanep: I understand you too but learning french is not the solution to the decay in our education system and in Nigeria as a whole...
Do countries like Cameroon, Benin and the rest teach English to their citizen.
It should be optional. I have been to 4 French speaking African countries, and trust me, they make efforts to learn English at school, I even taught in one of these schools. But in Nigeria, we don't care much about French; D In the end, let us do what we want |

butanep: What kind of good development? It's a backward development. Must we be forced to always borrow from the white or learn their language?
FG didn't make history or our local languages compulsory but making foreign language compulsory. How many of the foreign countries teach yoruba or igbo or hausa? I guess none. He haven't finish with the English language we have, you are telling us to go for french. How many countries even speak french?
Our leaders are really clueless. Nigeria will continue to be a dumping ground to the white. Then latter they will make Chinese compulsory...
Leaders that don't think before taking actions. Though I also agree with you, but you as well have to drop sentiments. They don't learn our languages because they are not dominant languages of the world. sad to say, mais C'est vrai. Note, I didn't say inferior, but less dominant |

Eluwilussit: And Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and other Nigerian languages belong to the past, abi? Inferiority complex is a problem.
Most Nigerians can't even speak good English. Our native languages are almost going extinct, but we now have to force Nigerians to learn French. Do they teach any of our Nigerian languages in France? Though I agree with your point, but please don't be sentimental about this.... They don't have to teach any of our local languages in Frande for us to learn theirs (though it's not compulsory we learn theirs either.) |

Solozzo: Arabic is a beautiful language. The Arabs gave us the numerals(1,2, 3......... Etc ) as well as the concept of zero as a number. They named many stars in the heavens. And the invention of hospitals too!! Very true. Let's just make it compulsory to learn an international language PLUS one local language for the children. In my opinion, that's a better policy. As for those arguing about French prominence or no prominence, the truth is that though French is widely spoken in Africa, Belgium and Quebec, there are at least 4 other languages that are more prominent such as English Spanish Mandarin Arabic That's the truth |

bookface: Hmm...
Let's see how this works out.
Ban everything - then everything becomes incredibly more expensive! Think about that for a second. The current Ban is pushing inflation to crazy levels already. How would you feel if you need to buy a used laptop at 1 million naira?
There are no easy solutions. But the current approach is worse!
Emefiele should take the following steps.
First, allow a modest devalution of the naira. ---- This should allow the foreign portfolio flows that we urgently need. It would bolster the government coffers and put an end to depletion of the foreign reserve
Second, given that the step above will surely lead to an increase in inflation, he should immediately accompany it with an increase in interest rates
Third, fiscal consolidation is required in non productive sectors - cutting down salaries, laying of non productive workers etc - and simultaneously boost spending in productive sectors - like infrastructure, and agriculture.
The current approach of banning imports and drawing down on foreign reserve seems to rely on hope - hope that one day oil prices may recover. This may well be the case, but who knows? What if it is not? Then what? we draw down on the last bit of foreign reserves and we start borrowing money at incredibly high interest rates. God bless you for this post. All I see on this thread are sentiment induced comments, but your own is devoid of such. Good one |

eyinjuege: The truth is, your family lost the court case, and probably refused to honor the court orders. You were forcefully evicted.
Your father might have done the same if he was in the other family's shoes.
Nonetheless, I believe your brother should know the family he's marrying from. Whatever he decides to do after that shouldn't be anyone's business. He shouldn't be coerced to leave the girl or to stay with her.
It should simply be his decision.
If he loves her enough, they should pull through, and if he doesn't well the better for both of them if he calls it off. I agree 100% with this submission |
