again, i have no idea WHO you are and/or what you seek when coming here (apart from a citizenship). if you had at least done some research, you would have known that A) Rio and SP are the 2 most expensive cities in South America to live in, and B) Rio and SP are two different cities entirely... SP is the business hub, a city that never sleeps, intense, saturated, no beach anywhere near the city, EXPENSIVE, while Rio is the chic city, tourist hub with its 100s of beaches, havaiana state of mind, more laid back, and MORE EXPENSIVE.... yet here you are expecting me to give you an exposé on ALL the different possibilities there are to live in Brasil (since i dont bloody know what you seek).



there is a huge difference between someone willing to share their experience compared to you asking silly questions... here you are asking for the cost of real estate in Brasil, not knowing that such question has 100s of answers, and therefore, instead of expecting me to do your job, you probably should have an idea (beforehand) on where you wanna go, your aim here, what lifestyle you seek etc

finally, you said you would prefer living in Salvador, while i would never dream of living there, even if they paid me. but thats just me, and many are happy living in Salvador, but sadly it just aint my type of city (nor is SP)... but i dont want you to base your choices on what i regard as the best place to live in Brasil because we dont have the same lives/desires/aim/requirements, and therefore you need to discover it all, and THEN make up your own mind. whats the point of coming across the world for such a great adventure, and simply following/copying what others are doing? make your own LIFE path!!!!

anywhere in Brasil, you can rent a place from €50 to +€5K monthly, depending on where/how close/how nice/how big/how safe/how funky etc

I was hoping that a first hand information will guide me on answering the remaining questions because I have no idea on the cost of living in Favela, posh neighbourhood, main city spots or far from it in Brazil. I don't know the advantages or disadvantages of life in Rio/Sao Paulo when compared to Salvador but I will prefer Salvador based on the general knowledge I have of the place. I also know nothing about social life and what it costs. Yes, i can eat rice often and i don't know what a feijão tastes like.

Comparing the cost/plan of renting/buying a car/moto to the means and cost of public transportation will guide me on which to pay more attention on.

Cost will be the major factor in most of my decision as my initial plan is to work elsewhere and live in Brazil.

I know you don't want to answer my questions, hence, you're being cocky with your replies. You don't owe me any answer. However, I'll leave my questions here and will continue to respond to any of your further questions whether rhetoric or sarcastic in nature. it all depends on who you are as a person, how/why you wanna come to Brasil, what you intend to do here, how you intend to achieve that etc. too many foolish Nigerians are tricked into doing some crime BS because they travel to a place hoping they will achieve the same success as others, while the failures of ignorant/unprepared brothas here are PLENTY!

About why I'm asking all these, I learnt that Brazil doesn't offer only birthright citizenship, they also give residence permit to the parents of their Brazilian child if one decides to stay back. The idea makes much sense to me being that i live in a country where i can never be a permanent resident no matter what i do and how long i stay here. The nature of my work is flexible and by God's grace if my anticipated promotion comes as planned this year, I will only have to work 6 months a year and have 6 months of field break.

My plan is that if i can get my woman to give birth to our child in Brazil sometime in the future, we settle there for a while as I travel to work in my present country of residence and return back to Brazil as my second home we will get a permanent residence there and maybe citizenship. With this idea I would have secured a good status in South America while i await for the oil price to increase so i can pitch my tent there.

Just an idea I'm exploring not as if I want to move in there illegally.

To answer your question, when someone talks about buying a residence visa what they mean is this: a person or his/her proxy approaches a company based here, especially small organizations and make a deal with them to be under their company sponsorship. In this arrangement, instead of the company to pay you salary you will pay them an agreed amount which is usually more expensive in the first visa and cheaper in subsequent renewals after 2 years. The cost for this varies from the position that will be assigned to you, to the relationship you have with the company but most times it's more expensive than any other UAE visa arrangement. This example highlights how position affects the price: if your visa is sponsored as a waiter there is no way you will expect it to be the same cost with the one you are listed as a manager with big salary which will enable you open a bank account, travel almost visa free to some countries, sponsor your wife, family and friends according to the salary listed on the contract they prepared the visa with.

This visa is mostly for people who have their own business, want to be independent of any company, people who are just seeking a way to live in the UAE legally without working for anyone, people who want to use this to build a good profile with the aim of migrating to another country or even people who wants to take their time while they prepare and search for their dream job.

What can these people do to make money while they are here:

1) Become cargo or visa agents.

2) Buy goods and send to Nigeria.

3) Source goods for people from here (especially cars and car parts).

4) Open UAE bank account, use the cheque to rent house and make bed space out of it, or sublet to illegals, have access to loans for business, open African restaurants or beer parlour in their rented apartments.(not legal)

5) Do part time skilled or unskilled jobs eg
a) Security: they will build their body, register through a security company and obtain DPS and start doing event security and bouncers. Their pay is per hour and they make reasonable amount of money.
b) Private teachers.
c) Technicians
d) part time unskilled job which pays the minimum of about 8 Dirhams per hour or fixed daily pay of about 100 Dirhams however this kind of job is not always constant and you will be prepared to do almost any type of job from Cleaning, packaging, waiter, bar man, sales, kitchen helper and so on.
d) Skilled professionals who want to freelance.

6) Rent a car and start a private taxi.

and so on

Most of the big boys in Dubai who lives here legally yet not working for anyone and doesn't have their own company are on this type of visa.

If you have high taste please don't come here in search of jobs...if you think UAE is a get rich quick scheme you will fail...not everyone here in this thread knows a single truth about UAE here and those who are on ground are assured different experiences daily...don't believe what everyone is saying here...some people here haven't been to UAE so how can they know anything other than readups. ..focus on positive quotes here but be ready to face reality....if you start poor here but you have zeal and energy and industry ...plus capital,luck and the Grace of The Almighty I promise you you will have opportunities to go to UK...Canada or USA and you will decline it....

this is Brasil we are talking about here, not some small tiny land... decide which city you wanna move to (different city/neighborhood, different prices), do your own homework via Google etc, and you will get ALL the info you require.

I'll appreciate if you can give a first hand information on any of these big cities, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and most preferably Salvador. I know i can look up prices of rent and other things on the internet but I just needed a first hand experience while I continue on my research. Thanks and I'll be grateful to learn from your experience.

Can you give an idea on the cost of real estates there? I mean the price range of renting an average apartment there, where to get cheap rents? and other cost of living.

No, Fake Visas are soo rampant and the agents are quoting 450k- 600k per person for the visa. The main thing is how sure are my that it will be the REAL thing!! You will need to go to their embassy personally to make enquiries and then apply, that's when you can be SURE...
For now, am checking out other options.

Am conversant with the site, I had clicked on it before I found out its Kevin Porter's site. He's a man, an american who relocated to Brazil with his whole family and his wife gave birth there. But i have seen a friend dt got a good job with an oil coy in dubai. he was working with an oil servicing coy in naija before he had issues with them. He did the contract in dubai for 2 years, married while he was working there. he gained the most weight he ever had in life while he was in the oil coys training school. He relocated to uk after the contract finished.

I feel destiny also has a big say. If u are destined to prosper in naija and u go abroad, nothing for u.

I think sometimes these things are exaggerated. If your brother is not gainfully employed I will encourage you to support him to come over here. It's not easy but life itself is not a bed of roses. If your brother has a clearly defined motive for being here, understands the situation of things here, willing to work hard and save then he will be fine with the right information.

If you remembered my last correspondence with you some years ago it was at Anambra farmers thread that was when i was about leaving Nigeria for UAE. I know it was not going to be easy, many of my family members mostly discouraged me as they were more aligned towards UK and US. I insisted and moved here. On the day of arrival, i paid a house rent of 150 USD in a room with 6 3 level bunk which accommodates 18 people. I was not surprised because i had prepared my mind ahead of the trip. I started my job search living in the midst of Teko (illegal immigrants), about 2 residents and the others sharing the same status as me.

One of my closest mate in the room later got a teaching job and another with an engine oil company in Ajman while i had none. He always wished me well even the day i took him to the airport to see him off for visa change in Nigeria. He later returned as a teacher with a decent salary and i later relocated to Abu Dhabi where i got a job working for an Oil and Gas drilling company. I have never in my life desired to work in the oilfield not because I wouldn't like it but because I have grown up in Nigeria to consider myself not qualified for the job since my friends with 1st class and 2:1 haven't got the opportunity even some with all the connection. To be honest, when leaving Nigeria for UAE my expectation was on a security job which will enable me save some money over a period of time and move on to another place. I considered UAE to be a transit route to some other country back then but today I'm only wishing for a better career in the oilfield.

For a prudent person, you can save money better than most average working class in Nigeria especially for the following reasons:

1)according to labour law, company provides accommodation(with a standard of 4 people in one room) and transportation to work amongst other things, otherwise, the allowances should reflect on your offer letter.

2) You work longer hours with an average of 12 hours excluding duration of commuting to work and back. This leaves you with little time to be exposed to a lot of social activities that will drain your money.

3) Food is generally cheaper especially if you can cook or don't depend much on African foods.

4) Most unskilled or semi-skilled jobs wear a particular uniform to work so you wouldn't have to be spending a lot on fashion.

5) Ever increasing power of the Dirhams over Naira, I arrived here at 1 Dirham to 50 Naira today 1 Dirham is between 85 and 87 Naira.

what most legal employees here often have to pay for is for their feeding, internet and call bills. Any prudent person will be able to save at least 60% of his salary.

About the employer holding the employees passport, although the law says it's a crime but in practical this is what most of them do. However, you can request for it if you have any important reason to do so and the company will give you especially if you are going for your annual vacation or have any official thing to do with it. In the worst instance if they refuse you can report them to labour and the worst that will happen is that you will lose your job and be banned for between 6 months and a maximum of 1 year which you can even lift by getting a job with a free zone company. In my own opinion, i think the passport is even safer with your employer since you have an Emirates ID which covers you within the country. Take for instance, you have a colleague with a questionable character and they steal your passport only to sell it to illegal immigrants or use it to clear money for yahoo boys. Average Naija boy knows how to get his passport back from his company except the person is a criminal on the run.

Generally, i think the standard of living here is poor mostly because of high cost of real estate but it's not always as bad as some people who have heard stories, who arrived here wrongly, who had been wrongly informed, and who has been duped always analyse it to be.

While at work in my location at the Buhasa field, Western region Abu Dhabi, i could notice some activities going on in the sky. It will seem as if an airline passed leaving white smoke-like trail which will take time to spread into the sky forming cloud like image. The movement doesn't have a particular pattern it could be straight or circular. This has been going on for hours, did you see this same view from your end? Can you see these formed clouds from your view of the sky? Could this be cloud seeding? The weather is getting colder now.

This is not about doing it for free and nobody is even discussing that here. This is about charging your fellow Nigerians 2-3 times the cost of the deal. Its greediness and heartless thing to do.

I wouldn't want to argue with you but i don't think your quoted ratio is right. After my cousin came here and left without getting a job in his 3 months of stay, i have been looking out to see if i can get any cheap direct employment to bring him back here but believe me the least i have seen is 6,500 Dirhams with a very poor salary. I have met a pakistani who arrived here with 13,000 Dirhams. Sometimes, even most of us here doesn't even have it cheaper. That's why it's most noble to stay away from visa matters most times as you don't even have any guarantee on the visa you want to apply for someone. I know of a girl who was a victim, the person she applied the visa from took the money and varnished and she has to be accountable to her friends and family back home as she struggles to pay back the debt.

As bad as it seems this is the reality here. She could be innocent and have a clean motive. I am yet to see an unskilled or semi-skilled Direct employment which was done for free. The cost mostly depends on the salary with Taxi driving and security jobs being the most expensive. These jobs pay better than many other unskilled jobs. I'm not advocating for agents but the system here is a little bit bogus. Anyone here understands this and that's the bitter truth. Most Indians and Pakistanis dictates the tunes in this game so it's not a Nigerian thing alone.
