Thanks. This is exactly what I've been doing. I virtually slept on this thread. I've gotten enlightened on the process. The advice of using 150k to get a 2months visa was wonderful. But let's also consider the fact that after getting the work, you will need to pay for flight ticket to return to naija to process your 2yrs visa and then pay to go back again. My cousin also read thru the inputs and was the one that raised this question. He was like it will most certainly amount to spending close to same thing if he goes that way. We've really found this thread helpful and educating, but do check the points he listed.
I read somewhere in page 4 where someone talked about this particular 2 yrs deal my cousin got and pegged the cost at about 400k - 550k; that's almost the same amount my cousin was asked to pay.

This is just what I wanted to find out on behalf of my cousin. This is what we, the entire family members are deliberating on. We have assumed that the deal is true and real, so what we wanted to find out is if its wise to use 3k dollars to go and get a job of 90k naira monthly, with accommodation and transportation.

Btw, I choose to ignore your justwise. They say first impression matters, I'd rather remain ignorant than seek advise from an arrogant fellow who believes I should know everything by default and posits that I and my cousin needs to see a doctor if we can't decode that we're being ripped off. Worse still, he is a mod of this section and I find it hard to see the intent of his malicious behavior.

Thanks for your input. I didn't know dubai visa and flight tickets were that cheap. Like you rightly pointed out, I'm not a regular on this section. I came in to start a thread b'cos of this, but saw this thread and felt it was best I seek inputs here.

According to my cousin, it seems mr X works with a company that hires expatriates for companies in dubai, that is why he is not sure of the particular job opening that will be available as at when his visa will be ready. He (my cousin) has made contact with the 2 guys mr x brought over. One works with a fast food joint, with accommodation and a meal per day. He is paid an equivalent of 81,000 per month. The second guy works with the security department of a big hotel. He said his work is to sit in a room and monitor cctv cameras. He is paid 90,000 per month, with accomodation and transport.

That was why I included the last paragraph of my first post since he has verified that it is not scam.

I have some odd feelings that the said company mr X works for do deduct a percentage from the said salary. I also want to know how easy it will be to find another job in dubai after the expiration of the said 2yrs contract.

justwise: If you have this glorious testimony about that Mr X why are you here asking for opinion? Why not ask your cousin to go ahead with it?

I included that last paragraph because my cousin seems to be so sure that he is not about to get scammed. So I needed inputs on the said amount, the job, possibility of getting more education etc just as @goodtalk advised.

I am to pay a sum of 3000usd. According to Mr X who is already working at Dubai, the money will be used to process my visa over there, get a work permit for me. The job comes with accommodation and transport with a monthly pay of 2000 AED (an equivalent of 90,000 naira). I am to sign a 2 yrs contract with the company bringing me over that I 'must' work for them within that duration after which I will be free to either continue with the work or find another one for myself. According to him, its not a professional job per say; it could range from front desk receptionist to security surveillance. There are chances of enrolling for some certification courses and furthering my education while working over there.

Your honest input is needed. The said Mr X link is authentic as he lived in the same street with my cousin before traveling and has successfully brought his younger brother and 2 other guys over to dubai that my cousin is aware of.

Yea, but its easier to go thru the unofficial way than to start filling forms asking for permission. Depends on the camp sha, but you can always sneak out and come back.

I was already working before I went for service. I worked my service to a convenient PPA and made proper arrangements to ghost it and returned to my work. It wasn't that easy, but it worked quite alright.

That's what I saved. Except the first allowee that was paid at camp, I didn't go to bank once to touch that NYSC account. Well, it was easy for me b'cos I had somewhere I was doing a secondary assignment so it will be wrong to measure other corpers savings with mine.

As for my plans for the cash, I've already paid N50k for NISP safety professional course (levels 2 and 3) starting on monday thru friday at ph. After this, I will still find other professional courses to enroll with the cash, and maybe pick my Msc form with it.

Trying to empower myself with the cash so when I remember my service year, I wouldn't say it was a waste.
