Yes, schools abroad do not require NYSC discharge certificate for PG admissions. Even schools in Nigeria were admitting for Masters without NYSC discharge certificate until a few years back. A fellow corper did his Masters in UNIJOS while we were serving there in 2006/2007
that means i can obtain my statement of result before NYSC right?

Kiakia:
Some posts here made sense. I now seem to understand that a government cannot just decide to convert a College of Education to a University, thus changing it's status overnight, without it meeting basic criteria of being properly called a University. Even though AlCE has been in existence for a whie now, it cannot really metarmorphose to a University overnight without basic requirements that obtains in more established Universities such as the qualification of the lecturers(Msc. minimum) and number of Professors among the teachers, etc. However, I believe these criteria can still be met if the upgrade is allowed to stand and efforts made to meet the requirements.
sorry. the conversion was not done overnight. Alvan is better than most universities in Nigeria in terms of qualitative education. And take note, Masters degree holders teach only NCE students, except in few departments were they may be allowed to teach few degree courses.

Me thinks there are criteria to be met before you can call an institution a university. Facility, manpower, capacity.. And so on.

When most of your lecturers are BSc holders, you won't expect that sort of conversion.

Upgrade first! Then convert
The issue of "criteria" is not the matter. Jonathan's government groomed those four colleges of education before upgrading them. in alvan, some departments like education, biology etc have up to 70% ph.d

Remember too that alvan has been awarding degree in affiliation wit UNN for many years now.

For two weeks now, the rumor that the federal government is planning to strip the newly converted colleges of education to universities of education their university status has been on air. Here in alvan, the news has not gone down well with the school community. On Friday 21st of august, there was a massive but peaceful demonstration (for the second time) by the staff of the school. Following the protest which led to the police use of tear gas to quell the protest, one week strike was announced.

I went to school this morning to discover that all the gates of the school was under lock and key. there was a very large crowd of people at the gate trying to enter, but to no avail. when i finally entered, I learnt that there has been no hostel porter in any of the nine hostels in the school since that Friday.

I could not snap pictures because i wasn't with a good phone, but i later went back to snap just the one bellow.

Information just coming in to our newsroom says there is heavy tension now in Owerri, the capital of Imo state. According to our reporter on the ground, Prince Ikem Obioma, the riot in Owerri was purportedly over the demolition of illegal structures by the Rochas Okorocha government through the government Agency (ENTRACO).

All shops and banks around Douglas road – ama hausa- mbaise road axis under lock as I speak with heavy concentration of armed security personnels around the area.

Info on ground reveals that todays problem started after the state government gave the traders at Ekeonuwa market and environs a deadline date to evacuate the area or face demolition, but the traders union were said to have insisted that the governor must demolish Amahausa first which is also along the busy road before their business spots. The governor yesterday demolished some illegal structures belonging to the Igbo traders, but allegedly spared the structures belonging to the Hausa community. The Igbo traders were unhappy with this development which they considered unfair and a display of double standard by the state government. As a result, some irate youths were said to have busted into the Hausa market, leading to the riot.imo riot2

The situation seems under control at the moment as mobile police men and other security personnels have surrounded the Ama Hausa area

PoliticsTension As Aba Boys Beat-up Hausa Soldier; Army Retaliate, Ransack Street by uncleck(op): 6:47am On Jul 13, 2015
An eyewitness account had it that last Thurday, July 9, a certain man and his pregnant wife were having issues with their neighbour at a location known as Oriaku Street off Aba/Owerri Road in Aba. After futile attempts by other neighbours to resolve the matter, the said ‘neighbour’ dashed off the compound (YARD as them dey call am for area) and in minutes, came back with a soldier who ordered the man & his pregnant wife into the ‘Keke’ they came with, apparently to take them to their Military station at Ngwa High School in Aba.

Word had it a heated argument ensued between the pregnant woman and the soldier. Before she knew it, she got dazed by the soldier’s slap on her face!

Unable to swallow such level of MADNESS by the Hausa soldier, the man whose wife was slapped started fighting the soldier. Before the Hausa soldier could say “Kai Nyamiri”, over a dozen “Aba boys” in the area descended on him and gave him the beating of his psychotic life!

Later, as the account had it, the area was besieged by angry soldiers in search of the boys that already vanished into thin air! Angrily, they started pummeling anything on trousers and whisking them to their camp.

Boko Haram is busy BOMBING the whole North! Instead of this ‘dare-devil’ soldier to go apprehend his Boko Haram “brothers”, he’s in Aba slapping a pregnant woman!

My Question is: Can he do that in the North? Why get involved in such civil matters? Or should i even blame the aggrieved neighbour that involved a soldier? What happened to the Police? Anyway, the police is a “FRIEND” many Nigerians avoid for obvious reasons.

No security… Insane law enforcement agents everywhere… No credible system. Talk about a JUNGLE indeed!
