It was an unusual type of armed robbery as some armed hoodlums carried out an attack on a Liquor Store in Mbobela, South Africa a few hours ago.

At about 18.45 local time, three armed men appeared at a liquor store located at Ferreira Street, hit the Shop Assistant on the head from behind with a weapon of some sort which knocked him out and so made it impossible for him to know how many the hoodlums were.

Evidence from a video surveillance equipment however showed that the Shop Assistant was on the floor unconscious for about a half hour before waking up to press the panic button which then alerted Hi-Tech Security (the security company attached to the shop).

Before then however, the robbers had made away with their loot which consisted of cigarettes, liquor, a cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money.

Some people who happened to pass around the area at about the time of the incidence said they saw three men walking briskly away from the store. “We think they must have parked a vehicle further away from the scene so we don’t have a description”, they stated.

In the meantime, the Shop Assistant has been treated for his head injury by the Hi-Tech Security medical services and later transported to a hospital.

Of course, Manchester United is at the centre of the football transfer news right now as most big name transfer moves are somehow connected with the club one way or the other. Names ranging from Cristiano Ronaldo to Alvaro Morata as well as Nemanja Matic amongst others are all connected with ManU.

ManU Manager, Jose Mourinho seems to have made up his mind to completely restructure the team he met on ground last season as he is bent on bringing in his own type of players into the team for the new season.

Already in the kitty is the £31m Victor Lindelof who has already been named as Jose Mourinho’s first summer signing. Close on the heels of this is the signing of Nemanja Matic who the rumour mills have it should be under-going a medical at the club in a few days’ time. Just as close is the case of Alvaro Morata whose signing is only being delayed by the uncertainty of Cristiano Ronaldo’s stay at the Bernabeu for now.

On the other hand, there are players who also moving away from Old Trafford. Zlatan Ibrahimovich is understood to have been allowed to leave on free transfer while Chris Smalling also seems to be on his way out of the team.

Then there s the case of Anthony Martial who reportedly is looking to seek his luck elsewhere since he is somewhat unsettled at ManU. The club’s management would prefer to keep him but will not stop him from leaving if a suitable offer is made for his services by other teams.

While teams like Arsenal, West Ham and Tottenham are said to be interested in his signature, the young French player seems to prefer going back to France and very likely to Paris Saint-Germain who are known to have shown serious interest in signing him up.

Manchester United is also involved in the case of Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic who is understood to so be bent on leaving his present club to the extent of refusing an offer of a pay rise. Inter Milan however are not about to let him leave so easily.

In some other transfer news, Michael Keane is set to complete a £25m move to Everton within the next few days, reports claim. The deal with Everton is now close, as the Toffees’ Merseyside rivals Liverpool seem to have lost out in the race for his signature.

Reports reaching our News Desk has it that the proposed transfer of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid F.C. to Manchester United F.C. is more or less a done deal.

As will be recalled, Manchester United had allowed Zlatan Ibrahimovic to leave the team on a free transfer and hoping to replace him with Antoine Griezmann but that plan has not worked out partly because Athletico Madrid is banned from signing players until January and so cannot afford the loss of their star striker without a replacement.

That situation has prompted ManU to turn their attention to Alvaro Morata who has been playing second fiddle in the front line of Real Madrid behind players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema thereby making the player to start looking elsewhere to get a starting shirt.

Reliable sources in Spain stated that Real Madrid are ready to accept Manchester United’s offer for the player especially since the player has informed the club and Manager that he is interested in moving to the Red Devils for the next season.

It was further claimed that the delay in officially announcing the deal is partly due to the present situation surrounding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo at the club as a result of the tax evasion saga surrounding him and the resultant statements credited to him of his intention to leave Spain.

The dreaded Boko Haram sect is at it again. They seem to be moving for more strategic conquests gradually as they were bold enough to ambush a military convoy that comprised of both the Police and Military Officers near Maiduguri.

The sect has now gone on to release a video about the ambush through a journalist who goes by the name Ahmad Salkida of the Salkida.com. The video has been uploaded onto the YouTube social platform.

The video itself is about 18 minutes long but has the Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau speaking for about a 10-minute period in which he reveals that the group abducted several female police officers during an ambush on a joint police/military convoy somewhere along Maiduguri – Damboa Road. The convoy seemed to have been caught off-guard as the armed members of the sect attacked them.

In the video, Shekau can be seen and heard saying “

“I want to tell you that we are the one that attacked the convoy, here are the vehicles for all to witness, we are the ones that abducted the female police officers, in fact, they are senior female police officers,” he brags. “What we did is nothing when compared to our women, children, and friends that have been wiped out or arrested for many years by the Nigerian government. We only abducted them to serve as slaves to us.”

He went on to criticize the current arrangement between Christian and Muslims who work together to protect each other at their places of worship and warning the moderate Islamic Clerics to repent as according to him, “No prophet has ever practiced this” He also declared that the female police officers abducted by the group are fewer than 10 in number as he referred to them as “slaves”.

It is no longer news that Real Madrid is interested in signing Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe who we all know is the talk of the town as far as young strikers are concerned what with his recent performances for club and country.

It is also a known fact that the player is very interested in joining the Madrid team personally. It however is not as simple as it looks with the Madrid team hoping to raise some money by off-loading a striker, most likely James Rodriguez who is supposedly a target for Manchester United.

The issue here however is “will Manchester United and or the other clubs hoping to sign James be able to match Real Madrid’s asking price for the striker”? This is a striker that was always on the reserve bench at his present team and may not be worth the amount his club is asking for. which is in the region of € 75 million!

If the the Spanish and European Champions’ League winners fail to sell James Rodtiguez in the summer they will be forced to wait until next summer to get the opportunity to sign Kylian Mbappé.

The people of China woke up this morning to grim news of a landslide that took place in the South West area of the country with reports claiming that over a hundred people have lost their lives in this deadly incidence.

The incidence reportedly took place in the village of Xinmo where at least 40 homes were destroyed by a natural disaster that is being described in some circles as a ‘first class catastrophic disaster’. Xinmo is located in the Maoxian County of China’s Sichuan Province of the Peoples Republic Of China.

The homes were reportedly destroyed by debris from a collapsed section of a nearby mountain which also resulted in the blockade of a two kilometre stretch of river.

Frantic efforts are on-going as at the time of this report to rescue survivors who are likely still buried under the massive debris that resulted from the deadly landslide. On a happy note, three survivors have just been rescued from the debris as I write this report.

Please pray for the rescue of those still left under the debris as rescue workers struggle to get to them.

It is action galore in the transfer market as teams start to go all out to beef up their squad ahead of the new football season.

Just as F.C Chelsea are on the verge of landing a Tiemoue Bakayoko for a fee in the region of £35 million, Manchester United is waiting on the wings to snatch Nemanja Matic from them.

The super defender is believed to be in favour of joining Manchester United so as to re-unite with his former coach, Jose Mourinho. It is also believed that the success of such a transfer largely depends on that of Chelsea landing a Bakayoko deal.

Manchester United is already virtually done with the signing of Victor Lindelof who is coming in from Benfica for a transfer fee of £30 million with the Manager still having his eyes on at least three more solid signings to beef up his team. He still has Alvaro Morata and Ivan Persic in his acquisition plans.

At the F.C. Chelsea’s end, the team will not have it so easy disposing off its out of favour striker Diego Costa who will prefer to return to Athletico Madrid but cannot do so until January when a transfer ban on the latter will be lifted. He is likely to sit out the period at Chelsea even though teams like A.C. Milan and Juventus are interested in signing him.

At the other end of Manchester, the duo of Dani Alves and Kyle Walker are on the sight of City. While the Dani Alves case might prove to be a positive one for them as he is already in talks with his present club for a mutual termination of his contract, that of Kyle Walker is surely going to pose a real difficult task as Tottenham are not about to easily let go of the player with a transfer fee of £50 million slammed on him.

As the saying goes, “When the going gets tough, the tough gets going”. That is exactly what transpired in the just concluded game between Russia and Portugal as the Portuguese captain, Cristiano Ronaldo made the difference between both teams with an early goal which he scored through a powerful header in the eight minute beating goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev from close range.

The goal proved to be the only goal of the match in a game that had Portugal with the edge over the hosts who could not find an answer to the style of play exhibited by a desperate Portuguese team needing to win at all cost after surrendering a 2-1 lead to a Mexico equaliser in added time in their first match.

Unsurprisingly, Ronaldo was the tormentor in chief for his team as he was a real headache for the Russian defence line. It took an Akinfeev fantastic save to deny him a second goal some 22 minutes after his first goal.

He missed another good opportunity 15 minutes into the second half as he squandered a chance created for him by Andre Gomes.

Portugal is now virtually in a safe territory as far as qualification for the next stage is concerned as they face New Zealand in their final game of the group stage.

Katsina State recorded a loss of five lives on Tuesday as residents got involved in a stampede as they were receiving #500 alms from a man simply identified as Kamal Ma’a Gafi. The dead persons included a 40-year-old woman and four minors as they struggled to get their own share of what was referred to as “Zakkat”.

The scene of the incident was in a state of mourning on Tuesday evening with the residents still lamenting the issue which they described as unfortunate.

The Katsina State Police Command has since confirmed the incident and also announced the arrest of Ma’a Gafi, who was giving the alms. In addition to the four deaths, some other 15 persons recorded various degrees of injuries, according to the Katsina State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Gambo Isah.

He went on to inform newsmen that the injured victims have been taken to the Katsina State General Hospital where they got treated and discharged. According to him, Kamal Ma’a Gafi is currently in a Police detention facility while investigation into the matter has been immediately commenced.

Port Harcourt football fans had a lot to celebrate this evening as their darling team, the Rivers United rallied to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over a very resilient Ugandan soccer side KCCA in a CAF Confederations match played at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The game had looked like it was going to be an easy one for the Nigerian side as Bernard Ovoke and Fredrick Obomate scored the much needed early goals for Rivers United to ensure that a two-goal lead calmed nerves.

This was however short-lived as Geoffrey Serunkuma pulled one back for the stubborn Ugandan team just on the stroke of half-time to ensure another nervy 45 minutes of football for the home fans.

The job was made a little bit easier for the home team however when defender Habib Kavuma got sent off for a second card in the dying minutes of the game.

This win moves Rivers United to the second position on the table behind FUS Rabat who play their game later on this evening.

The soccer transfer rumours and news are fast gathering momentum as the various clubs try to out-bargain one another for the signatures of players they wish to recruit into their squads ahead of the new season especially in the British Premier League.

The biggest name in the transfer rumour mills of course, remains Cristiano Ronaldo who has become a target for all the big clubs in Europe since the issue of his reported wish to leave Spain because of the on-going tax evasion case against him, hit the news stands.

F.C. Barcelona’s new Manager Ernesto Valverde is planning a shake-up in the club’s line-up come the next season according to reports reaching our News Desk. In a move that sounds quite ambitious, the Manager is planning to give the mercurial soccer star, Lionel Messi, a much deeper role in the mid-field department of the team.

This move is not unconnected with the diminishing performance of Andres Iniesta who is surely not getting younger. Even Sergio Busquets was not able to perform at his usual level last season thereby making the mid-field less reliable than usual.

Lionel Messi had to take on more responsibilities virtually in every area of the Barcelona team as he plugged holes in the mid-field and at the same time joined in the attack to eventually score an unbelievable 54 goals in all competitions despite the hindrance.

The success of such an experiment will definitely depend on whether F.C. Barcelona is able to bring back Gerard Deulofeu from F.C. Everton. The striker who graduated from the famed La Masia academy has now had two seasons at Everton apart from loan moves to Sevilla and at AC Milan, where he really impressed during the second half of the last season.

It is further hoped that the club will be able to acquire the services of Verratti from PSG as a further solidifying force for the ageing mid-field department. The chances of getting his signature are however more difficult than that of Deulofeu as PSG is not ready to let their prized player off the hook so easily.

The Nigerian Army announced the capture of Aliyu Ahmed popularly known in the Boko Haram circle as “Aliko”. He is a top notch member of the terrorist group, Boko Haram, which has been making life difficult for people living in the North-eastern part of Nigeria for some years now.

In a statement released today Saturday 17th June, 2017, Sani Usman who is a spokesman for the Nigerian Army informed pressmen of the capture of Aliyu Mohammed who is a chieftain of the Boko Haram Sect. This feat was accomplished on Friday (yesterday) by men of the 33 Brigade after they got a tip-off that Aliyu was hiding in Yuga village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State. In his possession were a single barrel gun and a dane gun.

The Boko Haram henchman confessed during preliminary investigations of his active participation in several Boko Haram terrorists’ attacks and ownership of an AK-47 Rifle which he lost during one of the attacks they carried out in 2016.

There is “a big problem in form four” at F.C. Real Madrid as its soccer star, Cristiano Ronaldo has threatened to leave the club and the country over the way the tax evasion case concerning him is being handled by the Spanish Authorities.

Ronaldo feels he is being unnecessarily targeted and harassed by the Authorities after prosecutors accused him of evading taxes to the tune of 14.7m Euros. He is consequently thinking of leaving the country completely as a result of all the “harassment”, a close source to the player reportedly told newsmen.

The player’s agency, Gestifute, is reported to have also released a statement saying ““There is no tax evasion scheme … There has never been any hiding nor any intention to hide anything.”

In the event that he actually leaves the club, his new club will have to really dig deep into its pocket to acquire the services of the mercurial striker as he is believed to have a buy-out clause in his contract worth some €1bn (£874m).

Of course, there are a few clubs out there that can afford such business as well as the big-spending Chinese Super League sides.

In reaction to all the noise surrounding the tax evasion issue and related matters, Cristiano Ronaldo on Thursday posted a picture with his fingers to his lips on Instagram with the caption: “Sometimes the best answer it’s to be quiet.”

An employee of a Chinese Company in Ogun State has learned the hard way the fact that the Kung-Fu films we watch here in Nigeria are not just films but real in a way and it is a real form of Martial Art. The man not just got “gifted” a Kung-Fu kick but one that crippled him as a result of a quarrel with his boss.

This incidence happened in Ogun State and precisely in Magboro where BedMate Furniture company is located. The victim who goes by the name William Ekanem got himself into a quarrel with his boss, Master Wan who in anger unleashed a deadly kung-fu kick on the employee thereby damaging his spinal bone.

The problem reportedly started when the Chinese boss demanded to see a bag of rice which Ekanem had bought from one Iya Melo who is a foodstuffs seller located on the premises of the company.

Ekanem was not happy with the inquiry from his Chinese boss and challenged him for poking his nose into his (Ekanem’s) business.The boss reportedly went on to forcefully check the bag of rice after which the employee got a kick to his back which sent him on a painful visit to the floor followed by a stamp of the Chinese man on him before some other workers came to his rescue (Ekanem’s version of the incidence).

The employee has reportedly not been able to walk properly or stand straight since the application of that Kung-Fu kick.

However the matter has been reported at the Ibafo Police Station even though no concrete action has come out of that.

A 52-year-old man who goes by the name Isiaka Obadairo has been nabbed by the Ogun State Police Command when he was reported to the Police for allegedly sexually violating a 6-year-old-girl. The arrest was made after the mother of the little girl reported the matter at the Sango – Ota Divisional Police Headquarters.

Isiaka who lives in the same premises with his victim at the Ijamodo Estate, Osi Roundabout, Ota, had ensured that the girl's mother had left home for her work place before carrying out his nefarious plan.

He allegedly called the girl on the pretence of sending her on an errand for him only to pull her into his room where he forcefully had carnal knowledge of the small girl.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abimbola Oyeyemi, informed newsmen that a team of etectives were despatched to the scene of the incidence immediately the matter was reported to the Command and the suspect was arrested while the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

He went on to inform the newsmen that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta, for further investigation‎.

There is pandemonium in London early this morning as a High Rise Appartment building is presently on fire with scores of pepole feared trapped in the fast moving inferno.

The fire as at the time of this report has engulfed everything between the second and the top floor. Multiple fire brigade workers are battling seriously to bring it under control with time running out for the people trapped in side the huge building.

Some lucky ones who escaped in good time are presently being treated for a range of injuries as others are hopefully waiting to be rescued.

The building in question is located in North Kensington area and known as the Grenfell Tower.
