PropertiesRe: From Concept To Reality II. Waves Towers Lagos (private Investor Not LSG) by Vergil: 7:15pm On May 14, 2012
pro01: All these corrupt ba.s.t.a.r.ds with ill-gotten wealth (both private sector and government) just piss me off each passing day with their senseless vanity ego-tripping projects. How many "5 Star" hotels do we need along that Ozumba Mbadiwe axis? As if the Oriental Hotel, Radisson Blu, Four Points, etc. are not annoying enough. They should channel their illicit funds into more productive ventures rather than keep building useless, overpriced hotels and 'luxury' apartments that nobody needs. This country needs a revolution, seriously.
Funny thing is, you'd see so called "bigboys/big girls" of naija, queuing to get in. The new thing in Nige is "Ostentation". Middle class my arse.

BusinessNo Change Attitude....shoprite, Park N Shop, & Co. by Vergil(op): 7:56am On May 14, 2012
Ok, so been going to these shops and I can't help but wonder that as "big" as these shop are, they ALWAYS say, "no change when your change is 5 or 10 naira".
Is it just me that notices this constant behaviour of the guys at the till?
Do they expect pple to always do "bigboy/big girl" and leave the change with them?
Wonder if its the staffs that actually keeps the money or a smart way for the management to get that extra naira from the costumer?
This seems to be in complete contrast to what I heard of them back in the day, issuing change down to kobo change. But now, they always don't seem to have the smallest (5 and 10 naira) change.
Anyway, I've said if they try it again, I might just give them a show down cos of 5/10 naira lol! Or better still, arm myself with 5/10 naira.

But honestly, this is it true, right?
PoliticsRe: Yorubas Are The Best In Accommodating Strangers In Nigeria - By Sam Omatseye by Vergil: 8:26pm On May 13, 2012
Chinom: Lagos is already overun. Yorubas should just forget about Lagos. Let me remind you that the migration of Igbos and other ethnic groups to Lagos started in the early 70s.That'sjust about 40 years ago and already Lagos is 60% non yoruba. What do you think will happen 100 years from now. Any Yoruba person that does not want to live with Igbos in lagos is free to move to Osun or Ondo.
Out of curiosity. Can the same be said to an Igbo state? Any igbo state? That it doesn't belong to igbo pple? Just asking

PoliticsRe: Why Are Nigerians So Pessimistic About Nigeria? by Vergil: 1:35am On Apr 18, 2012
Redman44: Being Nigerian is more than just living in Nigeria. Nigeria is more than just a geographical expression. Nigeria is not where it should be presently because of the high level of corruption in the place. Corruption has to be weeded out out of the Nigerian Psyche for the country to develop. There are so many things that are wrong with Nigeria that I don't know where to start from. I have a friend who is on holiday in Nigeria at the moment. He lives in the UK and he is Nigeria for a 3 Weeks holiday. He has been finding it difficult to connect with his office and friends back in the UK because of the slow internet speed in Nigeria. The internet which is the vehicle of personal and national development is taken for granted in the UK and the rest of Europe. That is not the case in Nigeria. So people have their own reasons for living in Britain and other countries in Europe due to bad state of things in Nigeria. How many Nigerians can afford to visit eateries like Sweet Sensation, Tantalizers, Tastee Fried Chicken, Mr Biggs etc on a constant basis? I also believe that Nigeria has a lot of potentials that are yet to be harnessed. This is why I said that Nigeria is more than a Geographical Expression. You can be a Nigerian and live in Europe or even have multiple Passports and Nationalities. You can be in North America and have a Company in Nigeria. It is all about putting together a team in Nigeria and having intelligent management skills that will ensure that your business becomes a success.

The Poster made a lot of points that are valid. It is not easy for Africans to get good jobs in the UK. There are a lot of bills to be sorted out on a monthly basis and racism still exists. Many Africans do menial jobs or jobs that are unskilled and the coming of the Polish and other EU Nationals into the UK has made the job market very competitive. Many Nigerians are also busy trying to get their papers and they enter into Marriages and all kinds of arrangements that stop them from achieving their true potentials. The UK is going through a Recession but there are still opportunities in the country compared to other European Countries like Spain, Italy, Ireland and France. I still wonder why some Nigerians will do menial jobs for a long time. The Average Nigerian is intelligent and should be able to set up a business of his own after some years or get an education and vie for better jobs. We need Nigerians in the diaspora to open up companies in Nigeria and also stimulate the intellectual prowess of youths in the country. What stops Nigerians in London from pulling resources together and hold Career and Self Employment Fairs for Graduates who are just living Nigerian Universities and Polytechnics? There is a lot to be done for Nigeria by Nigerians in the diaspora. You don't have to live in Nigeria to succeed in life or even run a Nigerian Company. There are Nigerian and Carribean Communities in the UK. Smart Nigerians can tap into these communities and make money with good business ideas. Information is key in the world today and if you're creative, you can become the next Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates. Cheers.
Could you explain the bold statement above?
How do they not do what they want to do once married?

If you've seen this, I'm sure you'd acknowledge that's not always the case.

Pleaaaase marry mehuh?

Your man must be some proper luccckky masculine. SheeEeeez!

Are you married? When did you discover the secret?

Most girls realise this by default, when they're getting old without a man in sight. They naturally flip into this mode just to trap the man. Some stick to this mode, since its keeps everybody happy and they see it makes the home happy and the man glued to them. Whilst others flip back to their old mode, then you start hearing complaints; how their man is this....is that!

Girl, you are the smartest of dem bbs. Trusss! No joke! You'd surely have a man who appreciates you 100%!

Have soo much to say/ask. But that would do.

PoliticsRe: Why Are Nigerians So Pessimistic About Nigeria? by Vergil: 12:36pm On Apr 11, 2012
shymmex: I have observed that most Nigerians are so pessimistic about Nigeria; and are quick to talk down on the country. It's just a pity to be honest,. I know Nigeria has its fair share of problems, and definitely not the best country in the world - but there are so many things attainable in Nigeria - that can't be attained even in the so-called civilized countries.

The funniest part of the whole ordeal is that, most of these clowns who are so quick to put down Nigeria don't even pay TAX. If you don't pay TAX, and make money from Nigeria - then, you need to slap yourself for being stupid - and you're a thief. I've met a fair share of people from Sudan, Somalia, Congo DR, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi etc. These places are like the biblical hell on earth, yet you don't seem them talk bad about their countries - the same can't be said of Nigerians..

I have never seen western media show starving people in Nigeria - the same way I see Somalians, Ethiopians, Congolese etc.

- Do you guys know how many Nigerians are stuck in different countries outside Nigeria, who would want to return to Nigeria - but can't because they don't have the means to, and are regretting leaving Nigeria?

- Do you guys know how many Nigerians want to return home, but can't because they don't have the qualifications, and resources to compete back home - and all their mates they left behind have since moved far ahead of them?

- Do you guys know how many Nigerians just live to survive in the western world, without any advancement in their lives - and they have been in the same position and situation since they left Nigeria?

- Do you guys know how many jobless Nigerians roam the streets of London, New York, Paris etc. with no jobs, living from hand to mouth?

Guys, thank God for Nigeria, and be happy with we have. At least the economy is growing, and if fundamental things like electricity, housing, security etc. can be put in place - we will continue to grow....

The UK I live in is DEAD, the economy has refused to grow despite all the cuts, and there are no freaking jobs out there. It's only a matter of time before the whole country explodes. Graduates can't even get a job out here, most times you have to settle for the same wages as some semi-illiterates working in Tesco and ASDA. Despite being in debt and wasting time attending a freaking University. It's only a matter of time before a race riot kicks off here; and I don't want to be involved in that bs..

My only regret is that I NEVER invested in Nigeria, when I was leading life on the fast lane - I was naive, and that was because I listened to too many negativity about Nigeria from losers and pessimists - whom are always quick to tell people horror tales about Nigeria, just to make themselves feel better - and hide their insecurities..

Nigeria is like heaven to me right now, I'm making major moves - and I'll be back to the land of my ancestors in two years time. If 160million black people can survive in that so-called "cesspit" by losers - I definitely can - with me two degrees, and professional qualification. I'm ready to get dirty, and get paid in Nigeria. My grandparents made it Nigeria, and my parents also did before leaving - and I know I can. I was raised in the school of hard knocks, and I graduated with a first class grade - before turning my life around. I SURVIVED AGAINST ALL ODDS!

Phuck losers and pessimistic clowns - Nigeria is slowly but surely going to get there.
Ok, not that I don't agree with you that its a good idea to invest in Nigeria. After all, its still has some empty space in the "development tank" to fill. Unlike other developed countries, which pple claim is full. Not going against ur thought n all. What I think you should say, to be fair is that, these so called dying countries are not "dying" or gonna diie per say, but are just more on the risk of remaining stagnant. Unlike Nige, which still has some room to grow.
That said, guy what reaaally happened or is happening to you or is about to happen to you.
Is it, maybe your time is almost up in the UK and you're at risk or worried you won't be issued a work visa/extension..and you trying to work/get used to the idea of going back to Nige?

Or you're legal, but just finding it a lil annoying that you're among a fraction of the population that lives to survive? Not much extra cassh to live almost flashy, buying all ur heart desires??

Or finding it hard for pple there or around you to reaaaally recognise you and appreciate u and ur input in general??

Or its just the good ol' patriotic nature in you, that has been strengthened during your stay in a civilized, most orderly society. And u feel the need to make a positive impact in the lands of your ancestorss??

Which is it??

Do hope after that 2 yrs is up, you'd be in Nige almost completely as you wish.

Like I said, not against you. Just where is this coming from? If you were living the good life like the fellow brother that's been talked about on here, Michael Prest. Would you reeeaaaally be inclined to raise your kids in Nige from Pry to Uni?? Just a question.

Curious....

Nevertheless, Nige has potential. But the politicians..... And the most scary thing is, when new guys get to that post, most if not all, make sure they get their own share of the cake and give u lot crumbs. Aaand still you lot sing "half is better than none". So there, it becomes perpetual. Makes u lot enjoy living without "stuff", material stuff etc. Like how they say, there's bliss in suffering (something along that line; how a poorr mans simple life is much better than that of a rich man).

Worst part is, u now get some of these same "crumb eaters", praisinng, supporting, rooting, defending these same politicians. Aand if these same "crumb eaters" get there and maybe tried to do good, without munching all the "cake". The system would call them slow dumbos. Why? Cos they didn't take care of themselves. Heck, they'd be pushed to do just the very thing the guy before did.

SMH!

Hand of GOD is needed m8.

So.... Back to the main question. What is fueling this statement of yours? Are u of pure hear and intentions? Are you only after ur well being like you seem to be from ur post ??

That, is the reason some pple are pessimistic, guy!
And can you blame them??

N.B.: you do sound like them international students tho. Doing TWO degrees, to increase the time of your stay in the UK....hmm..heey, cud be wrong! Just saayin !

PrettyCindy: To the person (whoever u r) wishing me badluck,i reject it&d same is ur portion in Jesus name. ThankGod u are not my GOD &my destiny is nt in ur hands.
To all of u who have prayed for me and wished me well, i claim ur prayers & good wishes and wish y‘all d same.
Now like i said in my last post, d story is too long. Infact its been since last month i wanted to say this but when i start writing, before i get to the middle of the story, i will discover that its already too long and it will be difficult for people to read that is why i decided to put up the short part and ask the most important question because as far as am concern, i deserve to be loved, i have lots to give to my spouse and same should be my portion. Being loved by my spouse is my right. Love is beautiful and i have seen true pure love from my son.
Terminating the pregnancy like someone said wasnt an option. Even though being free may seem better than being single and saddled with a child but look at the other side of it; it was after 6months of living together that i got pregnant. Initially i thot the reason he maltreated me was because i hadnt gotten pregnant that is why i became surprised that he got worse when i got pregnant.
We dated for just 3months and i will be real honest i wasnt really desperate but the pressure from my mum was too much.
My parents knew about the marriage, it wasnt a Lagos marriage as some have said. He met my people and the proper thing was done in my family home in the village. My parents did not agree to the seperation but, mum made efforts to bring us back together but my mind was totally made up. I agree with those who said that if we were both of the same tribe, we wouldnt have seperated as both families would have made considerable efforts and distance would have also played a major role since both families may probably live in the same state.
Yes like i said earlier, i earned more than him but pls believe me when i say i respected him 2d core.
No offence. But question is, why did u see d need to say where you are from? Why didn't you just ask plainly the main question: can a single mum find love?
You obv have a lil hatred for these inter-tribal marriages. Maybe not then but now, cos when I read your initial post. I knew its gonna be a tribal flame war, I'm sure you knew yourself.

And as erniewhez said, he prob saw something after the marriagee he didn't expect. Especially, as you won't ever say ur "wrongs", except his.

Just learn from this, especially from those things you aren't saying (or couldn't mention). Learn from it and apply them.
Try your eastern guys and if that doesn't work for you (hope it does by d way), then you know its you!
Be good!

Acelifted: Are you heading down the road of tribalism again!!!!

My Sister. Your story has nothing to do with marrying a Yoruba man. A wrong choice is simply a wrong choice, whether Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa. Buts it ok. Your sincere admittance through a humble and honest heart will attract God's sympathy. He does not reject such. Note that blessed Joyce Meyer was once married and divorced. A wrong choice. But she found true love in David and today they have been married for over 42 years. Isn't God wonderful!

If you ask me what to do, i will advice you get back to God and make things right with him. Your son has a wonderful destiny and needs a good home (and father) to lead him there.

God bless you.
Hi Acelifted,
U seem to know about religion. Soz that this is off topic. But what's ur take on divorce? Cos I've read somewhere, think Mathews. Where it says, Men should not marry divorced women.
This thought came up when you used Joyce Meyers as an example.

Ojukwu and his team; chinua achebe and co were determined to design an european-standard black nation called Biafra, but the yorubas betrayed us, so why should we look them with good eye, tell me? All these things they are saying here as if they like us Ibos, let an Ibo man come out for presidency tomorrow, and see how many yorubas that will vote for him, they are traitors, its in their bloods to always hate Ibos, so why marry your hater? Israelis can never marry a palestinian or a German for no single reason, that is how we should live with Yorubas and Hausas, they hate us, so lets just live with them for the sake of one nation, but never marry them becos they will disappoint u tomorrow if anything happens in Nigeria thats the obvious truth!!
Pls, don't take this offensive. To you or your peeps. With respect to your peeps.

cugresources: @vergil, of course all marriage experiences ups and downs irrespective of tribe or race, but tribe and religion plays a key role in the success of every marriage all over the world. read your Bible well if you are a Christian. you cannot take because u saw some uneducated poor folks fighting cos of financial problem in their marriage to classify Ibo marriages as being entirely bad. I once listened to a radio program on wazobia here in lagos on: which men amongst all the Nigerian tribes are more caring to their wives? God knows I am not telling you lies, so many callers, ladies mostly, yorubas and other tribes and Ibos too from their caller handles, said it was Ibo men, some now voted hausa men as second, while majority made it clear that yoruba men are not always caring to their wives or girlfriends, and that thats why girls from other tribes love dating or marrying Ibo men. u yourself can ascertain that truth though u may shy away from it.
And honestlly, I can say I've heard elsewhere that pple prefer Edo guys, even igbo girls, then Yoruba. How about that? Its because you have your mind made up, that's why you only recognise when gd things are said about ibo guys, not the other way around.

And about those ibo couples fighting in their house. Figured you'd say not all are perfect. But u were quick to quote a statistic saying 1/100, 10/100 marriages involving ibos and other tribes.
And mind you, from what I once heeard, the fight wasn't about finances, but the mans promiscuity.

By the way, with respect to Obasijoy. Pls, pardon me for using ur past as an example.

But obasijoy's ex is an example of ibo man gone wrong..eh? Point is, don't "raise" d bar of ibo to ibo marriages. They break just as any other marriage guy!!
If one should be religious like hw we're in Nige. If GOD says "No/Yes" to the marriage. Then "No/Yes" it is. Right?
RomanceRe: I Am A Single Mum. Can I Still Find True Love? by Vergil: 11:53am On Apr 07, 2012
cugresources: @vergil, yes our parents don't usually approve our marrying yorubas, cos they know more than we do plus they say how the average yoruba person can betray an Ibo during the civil war, Awolowo and his yoruba cohorts displayed that; so our parents know that yorubas hate Ibos, but our nowadays youths don't know that or they are finding it hard to realize until another crises comes up in Nigeria to teach them lesson. as a result, our Ibo youths of today are too liberal when it comes to marriage; they marry anyhow, never listen their parents becos they have come to lagos or wherever and maybe made it more than their parents, who despite whatever are more wise. saying i am a waste of space, there is no problem, we all know who we are individually, so no fight, cos the one i fought yesterday I am still trying to deal with it. so u cannot hear a word from me darling. but I insist that any Ibo girl marrying a yoruba guy is an infidel...jews don't marry palestinians no matter what, we are jewish lineage and should act as one. if u want to practice western culture, go to your land or go and preach that to europeans and americans, and ask them too why they don't marry blacks? why don't queen of england marry a black? why can't prince of england marry a black lady? ask yourselves wise men and women?
By the way, come to Okota, specifically around that avenue bustop. The street right next to it. You'd see cases of Igbo couple, married couple screaming their lungs out. Heck, few houses down d street. A man is known to beat his wife, she screams and this seems to happen at odd hours. A number of igbos/hausa here, just stay here for say 3 months..u'd witness. Esp in this house I'm on abt.

Dont tell me that these white men who over look black women when it comes to marriage are racist or that they are yet to come to terms with your disney world 21st century. Or that they are still living in 1800s . . Correct me if I am wrong, you are one of those divorcees hoping to tie down a fresh single guy, why not try a guy from one of those Arab/moslem countries that practice honor killings; afterall, you are a 21st century woman who doesn't care about tribe or religion
The fact remains that there are many things one has to consider before plunging into marriage. And factors like race, tribe, religion are some of them. Peace !!
But that's all race, different skin colours. Which have controversies, right from slavery days. Nigerians are all black. Guy! Grow up maan!

cugresources: @acidtalk, in Nigeria, when choosing a life partner, it is important to consider: tribe, religion, family background, and culture first. in Ibo land of ancient times, they do all these things, and its for a reason- if she had married an Ibo man, the marriage wouldn't have ended that way, just 7months, nope my friend, it won't believe me. the guy's elderly relatives and parents, with the lady's own would have sat down on a round table to iron things out, ask other people here. Ibos sacrifice a lot to ensure their son's and daughter's marriages remain united, I respect them for that. inter-tribal marriage hardly survives in Nigeria, if you doubt it, take a statistics around your immediate environment or ask experienced people. like I said, Ibos are the only tribes in Nigeria that marry anyhow- they marry tom, dick and harry in their liberal mind-set. maybe becos they travel a lot, so wherever they go, they build mansions, establish there and take those people as their own, and wouldn't mind marrying them, thats what I meant by they have liberal minds unlike other tribes in Nigeria. Talking of education, I am M.Eng holder from Leeds, MBA from Pan African University (Lagos Business School), so if your talking of whoever having more academic qualifications than I do, then the person must either be a Ph.D. hold or a prof. So to say my friend, lets leave education apart, and face the topic becos being a prof. or whatever doesn't always guarantee good judgment in marital issues. She and every other person reading this thread should consider tribe, religion, culture and family background when choosing a wife or husband. as for her case, the mistake had been done, but for correction, let her focus on dating or getting married to Ibo men and not leaving her mind so liberally...she must define her environment now...else, similar mistake may reoccur, which I pray not. Ask yourself, how many Ibos still practice polygamy nowadays? Probably none, but other tribes does, which shows u how much Ibo people value and respect the modern marriage system- which owes tribute to Ibos being homogeneously Christians!
Lol! @ the most liberal. Thought I've read it somewhere on here. Where pple said igbos are the least liberal when it comes to marriage. That they mainly marry igbo pple and their parents only approve of igbo pple. Would have loved to say, you are painting a bad image of your tribe. But it would be wrong to generalize. You just happen to be part of the small minority pple within the igbo tribe, that don't deserve the "space" you have been given...aka..waste of space!

cugresources: Tribe, Religion and Culture are important factors to consider before choosing a life partner, but probably you ignored it, and mostly its Ibo people that always do that big mistake of jumping to marry any tribe they come by just because they have liberal minds, which is not same with other tribes. next time, be watchful of tribe, religion, culture and family background, they are very vital, because such things are what shapes a man or woman in life. there are chances you may find husband again, but I must be honest with you that it is very thin in Nigeria, so be very careful of fakers. discrimination of been-tos, yes of course it exist here in Nigeria, we are Africans, thats why as a girl u have to look very well before u leap in Nigerian scenario. like a poster rightly said: if you must stand a chance of finding love again, if at all possible, then you must lower your expectations and desires in a man. The guy is scary though, what a man, abandoned his own son too, Ibos cannot do that I bet you. Ibos love their children more than any other tribe in Nigeria. So make wise choice next time, but trust more in God and do tell Him all your troubles with faith and don't take all men as same, cos there are more good men in Nigeria, if you stay wise! Goodluck!
Wow! Just wow! This is bad. If a person could be thinking like this....maan! Dnt know what to say lol! ONLY ibos value their children etc... So ONLY them? Only ibo marriages last for aages??

This really doesn't warrant anymore comment. You clearly are...not dumb, nt stupid...looking for the right word. M8! U just are a waste of space! No offence. Literally a waste...sorry to say...in Nigeria or wherever you are.

acidtalk: I rhink there's more to this story than what we are made to understand.

I know I come here regularly to bash young single ladies who don't set their priorities right, but there are a whole lot of Bunch Crack heads male folks there that even if they put an Elephants brain in their skull they will Never still think straight.

What kind of a man will abandon his own child and woman he married legally? The bottom line is he his either partially insane or a bloody coward who is scared of responsibilities. Some men enjoy rodding day and night every single second but can stand the after effect (catering for their child).

I am glad you have moved on. If going by your story is the whole truth of what happened, Don't worry God is always with the truthful and cheated. He will surely see you true.

But please note; Don't look at all men as being the same thereby turning your back and heart against other prospective suitors so that you don't end up missing a caring and loving man in your life.
@acidtalk.
I really rate you for keeping your cool. Guess, its wot should be done.
But, cmon now! Even you could tell there's definitely more to this story. Its amazzing how the guy is the only bad person here.
Op, what are you guilty of? Nothing yh? You all innocent in this. There's so much of with your story, I'm sorry to say. Especially if this sounds rude. But cmon!
You stating again, how he has to ask his brother for permission. So wot, u didn't notice all this when u lot were dating? Or when he was going on about the divorce, still you didn't see the need to straighten this out.
List goes on and on... And lastly, how you saw the need to state he was yoruba and u are igbo. Of what use was that detail here? Guess its to state how polygamous in nature "they" are..?etc.
Now, with regards to if you could still get a man. Yes you can. But if you're with a bad attitude/behaviour. The guy would leave just as this guy you talking about left. You have to be of good behaviour and not waaaay too picky. And be yourself before and after marriage. Not like you'd change when the ring is on ur fingerr. Treat ur new man as the King of the house he his (heck, the holy book says this too). You are an adult, sure u know what to do. Just be good, kind, respectful to ur new man amongst others. You'd be fine. And a man who obviously acknowledges ur kid.
