PoliticsRe: The Dora Akunyili Interview! by vigasimple(m): 2:53pm On Aug 22, 2009
gamechange:
Adressed to the Minister;

The fact that you gained so much from Nigeria as a student, a fete which is no longer avalable to youths of today, is the more reason you should not have attempted to gain residency in another country, I would have expected you as at 1996 to have the "I will die for Nigeria" attitude, instead you engaged in the visa lottery process. It's much easier to spew those words now, after the plum positions and status you have achieved.

As per rebranding Nigeria, I think with respect, the minister is missing the point, how can ordinary folks continue to see the ostentatious display of oppulence and abundance by our corrupt policians and Government officials, then expect the youth who are really the ones this message should reasonate with, to buy into the goals of the program.  Simply put it will fail. The saying is that children copy from adults, period.

The initial image of Nigeria as perceived by most foreigners most times comes from two sources;

1) What the media reports about our Government and its officials.

2) What our Officials themselves actually do when they visit abroad.

Rebranding is not going to mean a thing to them, when they know that Nigerian government is continually shortchanging  its people, elections are not even conducted free and fair, and when these officials visit, they come with wealth they have stolen from their people to buy themselves and their families a lavish lifestyle while still in office. Image branding must start from the top, let all officials do the right thing, let us see that you are doing the right thing, then surely rebranding will filter down. Independence of  Efcc, Icpc, judiciary, police and other security agencies will go a long way in helping the Minister achieve her objectives.

Until the right things are done, this too shall pass.
GBAM!

You have said it the way it should be said. Until we sort out our'LEADERSHIP BRAND'  we are deceiving ourselves. We are only painting a cracked wall.

I will do what my leaders do, not what they say. That is how human minds work.
stop wasting time, money and fooling people who have decided not to be fooled again.

I am sorry for professor. Akinyuli, she is a very good person and her family but on this rebranding nonsense, she got it wrong big time.

PoliticsRe: Obj Remarries! by vigasimple(m): 4:47pm On Aug 21, 2009
This is one of those good thing OBJ did albeit forced upon him by his children.

I think those children has the original blood of OBJ, they knew the man is loose with women, and saw a smart princess who want to take over, and the children led by Funsho knew that their inheritance is at stake.

At least this will control OBJ a little bit and leave the 'youth' alone as one of the posters above fears.

The good thing is that it was one of the women who gave him a child, in this case Funsho's mother , so congratualtion to OBJ's family,

And to us, what is our business if OBJ were to marry his grand daughter's friend, they are all marrying 'the money and the power'

Our concern should be how the new man at the saddle will do something for the future of our country, my personal take is that  YAR A'CLUELESS will not do anything whether he is there for 4 or 8 years, he and the PDP or our entire political system as it stands can't do any meaningfull thing for Nigeria. Their purpose is different. It is about them and NOT about the country.

But, I will continue to pray, and look for means we can get our country out of the dark corner.

@ poster

I completely agree with you that we are yet to understand use of language.

Our problem has and it is still LEADERS that are well taught and given proper orientation when assuming a new position or role. It is call induction when you take on a new job. There are written rules of do's and don't.

Use of language is so important. remember when one is growing up, you are told to read newpapers and listen to news and leaders on use of words.

Military use of words is based on 'COMMAND' whilst civilian use of words is based on 'instructions and informations'.

With military, it is personal, he or she, the officer is the law by decree but in a civilian dispensation, the process is by Act of Parliament ( rules and laws made by the peoples representative in parliament)

It was a nice observation and very important because we are all under the law including Mr. President and his CBN governor

Humility is the first asset of a true leader.

I think the Militant knows that they are dealing with fools and foolish government.

All they have come out with his few men and some AK 47, and used ammunitions.

What about their anti aircraft batteries and similarly powerful weapons, we have not seen Nada.

I also heared that for each of their 'leader' that surrender, they have another one replacing him, BOYLOAF is a case in question.

They are going to regroup as they sense some insincereity on the part of the FG and they are also playing cat and mouse game. The FG are forced into this Amnesty thing but the man on top of the tree is too busy going all over the world for medical treatment that he his unable to bring the whole thing together.

I am sorry for we Nigerians.

Police at check point do N20 N20 vison 2020 police collection and shared from constable to IGP since the begining of times, so you guy should not get too excited, the matter will be 'settled out of court amicably' after the police and prosecution are settled maybe some clean notes for the bench.

POVERTY will make a saint almost become a satan grin grin grin

We need  LEADERSHIP with holistic view of solutions for this country rather the knee jerk reaction of daily occurrence. Any good visionary leader will know that this will happen more often than not since costs is many times over income. Anyway PDP= People deceiving party and Poverty development party, what do you expect?

Mr. President YAR A'LIAR is flying all over the world for medical treatment  instead of building a world class hospital in Nigeria to treat his ailment and similar ones. costs of those trip will be more than the costs of building hospitals at the end of the day.

SO CBN staff  ALSO WANT TO GO ABROAD FOR MEDICAL CHECK UP, what is good for the goose is good for the gander

@ igeakanmu

Thanks for your post. It is a good insight to way the writer see things, but that is not how a human mind works.

Take a child for example (which is what followers are always) will always in most cases follow what the parent does.

Unles you have a visionary leader, dedicated, honest and leading by good example, you hve no chance of Branding let alone Rebrand anything. Yes , a lot of Nigerians are good people, and the country has more goodness than bad.

But if our leaders steals $300 billion dollars in the last 30 years and no develpoment, most of these were done during military period, what impact can the ordinary people make.
Without LEADERSHIP who reject CORRUPTION in all its forms and raminifications we are wasting our time.

Nigerians have their share of the problem BUT
OUR LEADERSHIP ARE THE PROBLEM. THEY ARE EXTRAORDINARILY AWFUL.

SapeleGuy:
South Korean KNOC Wins Oil Suit Against Nigeria

Paul Arhewe, Online Editor onlineeditor@independentngonline.com

(With Agency Report)

Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC) Thursday won a suit against Nigerian Federal government following the verdict of a high court which ruled that President Yar'Adua had overstepped his brief in revoking its two exploration licences.

The KNOC, a South Korean firm, had filed a suit seeking the restoration of two offshore oil prospecting licences granted in 2005 and revoked in January by Nigeria on the ground that the firm had not fully paid the investment pledged.

"The applicant's suit therefore subsists because there is no power conferred on the President to revoke or void the (licences) allocated to it," Abuja Federal High Court judge Abdullahi Mustaphahe said.
Government claims that KNOC lost its right to the licences by failing to pay in full a signing bonus

KNOC lawyer Robert Clarke had said the company paid most of what was due on the licences and had agreed on a production sharing contract with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) before the licences were withdrawn.
When NNPC cancelled the licences, it cited non-payment of some 231 million dollars which it said KNOC had promised in return for the exploration rights.

KNOC said that amount had already been written off by the former Nigerian government in return for the construction of infrastructure, including a power plant and gas pipelines.

AMOUNT WRITTEN OFF BY THE FORMER NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT?

If the above in bold is the Korean company argument, where is the infrastrutures buildings? or is to be constructed after they have found OIL and sell it?

I think this is one of OBJ silly allocation without any consideration by the Korean company maybe except
'some ghana must go bags or swissie accounts loading' is the consideration which is not recognised at law.

I think the Judge may have erred in law(even though I don't have the full facts). Where is the consideration? They seems not to have paid anything for the rights?.

Even his enemies knows that the man RIBADU is way before his time and contemporaries.

Maybe when he helped other west african countries then Nigeria may know what they are missing.

WAZIRI EFCC is doing in the banking corruption what RIBADU EFCC is doing in Political corruption. You have to fight corruption in unconventional ways, just arresting them gently as if those corrupt people are gentlemen and arraign them before the court will do. The corrupt class are way smart, and they have all the money and know how to derail any
'gentle prosecution'

It is like policeman fighting Armed Robbery, it is fire for fire even though Armed Robbers have more and sophisticated firearms.

RIBADU is being recognised the world over as corruption fighting bull without fear or favour. All those 'selective prosecution' corrupt ridden class argument is all propaganda to divert attention for their wrong doings.

Is this story true or one of those 'padded' for future book or nollywood movie.

I can relate to some of the things especially the killing of the Kaduna/katsina mafia chief, Sheu Musa Yar A'dua.

Also, Abacha may have his home in Kano, he is a Kanuri man who has his root from chad.

I am convinced that Babangida may also have his home in Minna( making him a Gwari man(not an Hausa/fulani). His forbears are likely to have come from Niger Republic but certainly he his not A NIGERIAN.

All the other leaders in Nigeria with the exception of Yakubu Gowon
( a Ngas officer I believe)  are Hausa/Fulani, Murtala Mohammed(Hausa from kano) sheu shagari (fulani from Shagari village in Sokoto)

Abacha and Banbagida are clearly nobody who find themselves in position of power and not afraid to die as the only thing they know how to do is play 'death game'

Everyday is for the thief, one day is for the owner. IBB day is just a little time away from here. God is ever supreme.

Kobojunkie:
Is this Legal? First the CBN takes over, now the EFCC takes it on itself to punish Bank Debtors? Na crime to owe bank money now?
Answer to your question, NO it is not a crime to owe banks money, but if the intent is not to pay back, then it is a crime. and from all indications most of these big men and their companies don't have the intent on paying back.

I notice that some of them owed straight figures like N5 billion naira etc. they just borrow and no intention of paying back.

I must also add that they will only have been able to do so through connivince with their bankers. So, it is not a one way street.

SECONDLY, this now confirms what RIBADU  has been saying that you have to fight these corrupt people in a ruthless way, look, taking them to court and filing affidavit and counter motion will not work with the criminally corrupt class who knows all the law and how to go round them.

As a lawyer myself I know that there are so many provisons to slow down the process, and it is mutually beneficial for the client and counsel. long hearing buy time for the client and pay more fees to counsel. get it ?

There is no Emir of Sokoto  BUT SULTAN of Sokoto.

Lamido sanusi is the son of the late Emir of Kano. most cities in Northern Nigeria including Ilorin (which geographically is Southern Nigerian) have Emirs except Sokoto (which are Fulani's), kano, kaduna, katsina are all Hausa's, Borno(maidiguri) etc are Kanuri's.

Their commonalities is the islamic religion, even their language is different but Hausa being the dominating tribe has it language as the lingu franca.

within these 5 banks alone out of the 25. and not yet sure about the rest, the total non performing loans(not sure about the interest payments) totalling N775 BILLION.

Even if we multiply that by 4, it will be around N3 trillion naira likely money gone to the oceans( why no one think about it , when you call a bank oceanic- it means your money goes to the ocean grin grin grin)

Oceanic bank alone is about N278 billion major defaulters, what about minor defaulters, maybe another N50-100 Billion naira. what is the bank total capitalisation, is it up to N100Billion, if not, then the bank is an empty shell.

He has done well both professionally and politically
People don't learn from History. The North are politically savy than the south especially the south west.

When it suits the North MKO Abiola was their man who was msulim and allow NPN inroad to South (and south west in particular). When he won election he became kaferi eating with Southern christians, what he has been doing since his birth.

Saraki want relevance, and claimed Kwara state is part of the North, geographically they are not, they are under the Niger river border.

Even if they are accepted as 'North' , he or any of his family or tenth generation descendant whether or not are of FULANI extract will never be allowed the Presidency by the North by claiming they are from the North or that they are FULANI

He is using the North to gain relevance In Kwara and the North is using him to make hold on Kwara as a Northern state. There may be a lot of Muslim in Kwara as in lagos, it does not make them part of the North.

The guy pretend through his appearance as if he is duing his due procees and rule of law, and very insensitive. He will soon turn the country to REPUBLIC OF KANOKASTINA.

He just does not get it , and the office of the Presidency is above his paygrade.

I have argued this before when he select LAMIDO as CBN governor. Even if someone is more competent, the federal character must be adhere to as it was purposely put in the constitution to protect the North, they cannot use it as a shield and at the same time a sword when it pleases the North.

I think we should now remove federal character so that people are appointed on merit, majority of the states in the North will not have any representative in government.

President YAR A'FAILURE, all he can do is nepotism and pretend

Whatever the failing and/or shortcomings of TINUBU, his success is, his successor FASHOLA.

BRF is a 'trainee' of TINUBU, spent 8 years as his Chief of Staff. BRF was therefore able to learn the good and see the bad, and improve on them.

If OBJ successor, YAR A'CLUELESS has been 25% success like BRF, we will be rejoicing in this country. TINUBU may have choose to do what OBJ did and 'select' A DO NOTHING PERSON LIKE YAR A'DULL and for us to look back and consider the previous administration excellent. But he decided to have quality, and the people are now the beneficiary.

A successor in a good system usually do better that his predecessor (EXCEPT OF COURSE IT IS NIGERIA) - they call it NIGERIA FACTOR

To me personally, whatever may be the failures of TINUBU  has been well compensated by the good job of his successor BRF, so the people of Lagos state has gain more than lost, that cannot be said of Nigerians.

The Bauchi State Deputy Governor was impeached ironically while on an ANPP delegation visit to the President in Aso Rock this morning. He was accused by the House of Assembly of the normal political crimes - gross misconduct, illegal cash approvals etc.

The embattled man when interviewed was calm and said his lawyer would take up the matter. Meanwhile, the Bauchi State PDP executive committee was dissolved today by the National PDP.

This we all know is not unconnected with the recent decamping of the state governor- Yuguda from the ANPP to PDP which his deputy vehemently stood against. The deputy has vowed ever since that event that he would never leave his party for any other which triggered his recent political woes. The deputy to Ikedi Ohakim-Imo State governor- was not impeached because he decamped with his boss to the PDP. Selah!

Is this multi-party democracy going to last? Remember Prof. Soyinka warned at the weekend that Nigeria is tilting gradually to a one-party state.
Please watch this space, he may have gone to negotiate for ministerial positions.

By 2011, there will be no more opposition party left except those ones that cannot get to be flagbearer of PDP will then grumbling take on the flag of AC or ANPP or PPA or LABOUR party as a stepping stone to cross over to PDP.

YAR A' CLUELESS= 7 Pointless agenda+ Visionless 2020=
Myth + Daydeam= NIGHTMARE

We need to intesify our prayers because for the deaf, dumb and blind 'leaders' we have , all their 6 faculities are not working, and it is equally doubtful if commonsense has anything to do with them.

Success code for Nigeria is
LEADERSHIP-CORRUPTION= FUTURE

The way 'our leader' run this country is a joke.

I watched on AIT (focus Nigeria),and it was shameful, Hilary clinton was being met by tarmac staff in their uniforms(about 5 of them), and from the Nigerian governemnt ( deputy Ambassador and another junior officer). That is serious matter in diplomatic circle.

Nigeria we pay for it, unfortunately it will only affect the ordinary people. our politicians and leaders are master scammer, fraudsters, and chronic corrupt who cannot run an ordinary nursery schols let alone run a whole country. They are whinning like school children who have been chastised for their ugly behaiour which is true.
PoliticsRe: CPI 2008: Nigeria Is Not As Corrupt As Most Of You Think. by vigasimple(m): 12:59am On Aug 13, 2009
You can find any reports to rationalise this country failure.

One certain FACT; NIGERIA IS IN THE TOP 5 OF THE VERY SEVERLY CORRUPT NATION ON EARTH AND POSSIBLY HELL.

Show me any improvement in Nigeria in the last 10 years. Most major building including roads are done during the 1977 Festac festival. Festac, all those federal roads in lagos, Lagos-Ibadan Express Road, start of Abuja Etc.

If you ask me personally, i dont need a sooth sayer to say to me that Nigeria is the most corrupt nation in the world. What make our case even worse is that we are not ashame of it. We celebrate thieves and fraudster.

When you hear musicians singing yahooze and comedians making jokes about 419, and Corrupt government fraudsters  being celebrated as successful species. That says a lot about us , and about our moral bankruptcy. GOD PLEASE SAVE US .

SELF DENIAL IS THE BIGGEST LIABILITY OF A FOOLISH MAN, AND THAT IS ONE THING WE HAVE IN ABUNDANCE.
