Politics / Re: Useless Journalism In Nigeria (Name and Shame) by vikiviko(m): 4:16pm On Nov 29, 2009
Journalism in Nigeria is vibrant take away some of the hitches mentioned its still better comapared to sensational journalism practised in some part of Europe and Middle East.

Check the guardian newspaper, thisday and Punch for print.
For TV, Silverbirds is excellent in its entertainment reporting , Channels for news and NTA as state owned.
In lagos wazobia FM is doing so well in local reporting, Brila is rated so high abroad in Sports reporting.

This is a hint for journalist in the house on how to write a news story.
When writing a news story the first thing in mind is the lead- One of the most important elements of news writing is the opening paragraph or two of the story. Journalists refer to this as the "lead," and its function is to summarize the story and/or to draw the reader in (depending on whether it is a "hard" or "soft" news story).

The body of the story involves combining the opinions of the people you interview, some factual data, and a narrative which helps the story flow. A word of caution, however. In this style of writing, you are not allowed to "editorialize" (state your own opinion) in any way.

The role of a reporter is to find out what people are thinking of an issue and to report the opinions of different stakeholders of an issue. These comments make up the bulk of the story. The narrative helps to weave the comments into a coherent whole.

As a reporter, you are the eyes and ears for the readers. You should try to provide some visual details to bring the story to life (this is difficult if you have conducted only phone interviews, which is why face-to-face is best). You should also try to get a feel for the story. Having a feel means getting some understanding of the emotional background of the piece and the people involved in it. Try to get a sense of the characters involved and why they feel the way they do.

Sports / Re: Should Thierry Henry Be Banned From Playing In The 2010 World Cup? by vikiviko(m): 3:48pm On Nov 24, 2009
I think thats what makes football the most interesting game , the pains and agony of defeat followed by the resultant joy and satisfaction it brings to two halves.

Let the game go on, referees should be more alert and consistent in there cautions, calls and rules.

Henry does no wrong.

See you in the World Cup.

Sports / Re: Why Amodu Was Hired! by vikiviko(m): 9:59pm On Nov 17, 2009
If we are to judge by results Amodu has not failed anybody perhaps the team didn't play well but we must agree there are no small teams in football any longer.

Imagine Kenya scoring twice against Nigeria, Mozambique beating Tunisia, Nigeria beating France.

In worls football today there is no coach who can guarantee a world cup for any team, every team in the world is a favourite , i subsribe Amodu remains .

Lets see the team in Angola, rather i will suggest the under performing boys be dropped in the team and no blood injected.

Is it Amodu's fault we conceded 2 goals in Abuja against Tunisia, the defenders were careless.

Abeg let Amodu be.
