PoliticsRe: What Role Do We Play To Reduce Corruption In Nigeria? by Vincent41(m): 2:08pm On Dec 21, 2012
ffo: It is a known fact that most Nigerians are corrupt.

I believe we have roles and part to play to clean up the system, no matter how small it may appear. If every body starting from everyone of us plays our part, corruption will reduce to some extent in the year 2013.

Fellow Nairalanders, what role do we play as Nigerians to reduce corruption in Nigeria?

Your opinions will be highly appreciated.

alhaji000: Research In Motion’s (RIM) first BlackBerry 10 smartphone, formerly known as the L-Series and “London” will apparently be called the “BlackBerry Z10″ according to marketing materials obtained by UnwiredView.

RIM’s QWERTY BlackBerry 10 device that’s slated for a release sometime between March and June will reportedly go by the name “BlackBerry X10.”

As we inch closer to BlackBerry 10′s launch on January 30th in New York City, all eyes are on RIM to deliver a new smartphone and OS that finally catches up to iOS and Android.

BB10 L Series
https://ictcatalogue.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/bb10-l-series-1-300x225.jpeg

Most recently, RIM’s Dev Alpha B smartphone running BB10 was spotted crushing the iPhone 5 on iOS 6 and HTC Windows Phone 8X running Windows Phone 8 in a Web browser speed and rendering comparison test.

All RIM needs to do now is deliver compelling hardware and apps to sway users who have long since abandoned BlackBerrys for iPhones and DROIDS.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Barcelona's Tito Vilanova Suffers Tumor Relapse by Vincent41(m): 11:18pm On Dec 19, 2012

(Reuters) - Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova has suffered a relapse on the cancer in his saliva glands, Spanish daily El Pais reported on Wednesday citing sources at the club.

The 44-year-old Vilanova, who underwent surgery on a tumor in his glands in November last year, stepped up from his role as assistant to replace Pep Guardiola as first-team coach for this season.

The La Liga leaders put out a statement cancelling a Christmas event planned with local media and president Sandro Rosell in the morning, saying the reasons would be given later.

"Very sorry to hear the news," Barca midfielder Xavi said on his official Twitter account, as messages of support flooded in.

Former tennis world number one Rafa Nadal said: "All my strength and support for Tito Vilanova! We are all with you to overcome this next hurdle."

Vilanova was out of action for around three weeks after surgery last year, but returned to the dugout to help Guardiola for the last six months of the 2011-12 campaign.

The quietly-spoken Catalan said the experience had left him with a different perspective on life, at his presentation in June.

"I had an important operation a few months ago," he said. "I spoke with the medics and my family about the job, but they all said I was perfectly okay and there was no problem.

"Having overcome this operation it gives me a different view on life. Perhaps, after what has happened, training Barca will be like kids play."

Vilanova has guided the team to the top of La Liga with 15 wins in 16 games, nine points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid, and into the last 16 of the Champions League as group winners.

Barca have one game left, away at Valladolid in La Liga on Saturday, before the two-week winter break.

I was discussing with my Hubby few days ago and the above question cropped up. He just smiled and said any course apart from Law. This is possibly, no definitely, one of the dumbest stunts ever.

32 year old Tomas Paczkowski tried to impress his wife, Lila by doing his bit of housework. However, the man lived to regret his good deed as he managed to iron his face when the phone rang. Umm, epic fail!

Tomas who was ironing some clothes when his mobile phone went off, automatically put the device in his hand, ironically a hot iron, to his ears to respond to the call.

The man’s attention was on the boxing match that he was watching while doing the dreaded house job.

After feeling incredible pain, he rushed to the washroom to apply water on his burnt cheek and ears. To add insult to injury, he banged his head against bathroom door as well.

So, now he looks like one of the boxers who has lost his match. He has a bruised eye and a burnt cheek to show for his wee bit of multi-tasking at home.

Crazy funny world we live in!

Slizbeat: Apart from the boko haram menace that has claimed most of the deaths in 2012, that of crashes has also joined. Just the last half of the year 2012, nigeria has recorded 4 crashes. That of DANA airline killing 158 on board and over 40 on ground, Oil company Helicopter killing some foreign Investors and Oil Mogul, private jet of taraba state governor Danbaba Suntai leaving him Brain-damaged and yesterday's air mishap at bayelsa killing former NSA rtd. Gen. Andrew Owoye Azazi and Executive and first christian governor of kaduna state, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa among Others. Now in your own views, what actually is the problem? Is it PDP? Is it ACN? Is it the North? Is it the South? Is it the East? Is it the West? Is it 1914 Amalgamation? Is it 1967 civil war? Is it the sins of the Nation? Is it GEJ? Is it OBJ? Is it Buhari? Is it Me? grin Is it the Pastors(those in disguise) and the judges? But on a serious Note, is much, what do you think?

However, his philanthropic deeds compared to the deeds of other Jet owning fleecing gang of thieves parading as General Overseers makes one to remember the short bible verse "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them"

PoliticsRe: 63 Arrested In Hunt For Abductors Of Okonjo-iweala's Mum by Vincent41(m): 9:43am On Dec 14, 2012
supereagle: The Nigerian Army, on Thursday, said soldiers had arrested 63 people in raids as they searched for the finance minister's 82-year-old mother, kidnapped from her home on Sunday.

It is not yet known whether the abduction of Kamene Okonjo, mother of former World Bank director Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was political or for financial gain.

"Yesterday the Four Brigade raided Ogwashi-Ukwu in search of Mama," army spokeswoman Roseline Managbe said. "Those arrested are being questioned," she added.

Two policemen were also arrested this week on suspicion of aiding the kidnappers of Okonjo.

Managbe said two Lebanese men working for Nigerian construction company Setraco had been abducted on Tuesday in Delta state by gunmen who killed a soldier assigned to protect them.

Gangs operate throughout the Niger Delta, home to Africa's largest oil industry. Most people abducted are Nigerians but foreign oil and construction workers have also been frequent targets.

The finance minister, a campaigner against corruption, has received threats in the past, her special adviser Paul Nwabuikwu said on Sunday.

Ms Htay, 40, the partner of an employee at the zoo, told local newspapers that she felt sorry for the animals and offered her services, at least until the cubs grew teeth.

The two are now being raised on bottled milk as well as Hla Htay’s milk four times a day.

Christianity EtcRe: Pastors Will Buy More Jets – Bishop Francis Oke by Vincent41(m): 12:58pm On Dec 13, 2012
MAYOWAAK: President of the Sword of the Spirit International Ministries and the national vice president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, has condemned the attack on clerics who own private jets in the country, just as he stated that such stand was uncalled for and that more jets from clergy were coming.

The bishop stated this in a release made available to Tribune Church. “We are being criticised for buying jets! But they forgot that before we started to buy jets, we were winning souls in thousands and millions, turning men and women from darkness to light. We were transforming lives, giving them beauty for ashes. We were empowering people, equipping them with the revelation knowledge of God’s word that lifts men out of the pit of poverty, to the pinnacle of grace and dominion! We were empowering the poor, not only giving them fish to eat but also teaching them how to fish. We were building schools that were giving quality education to the people, empowering them mentally to become prominent (these include those throwing stones at us now!). We were building universities. We were transforming our society, and changing our nation, one soul at a time,” he said.

Oke wondered what Nigeria would have been if not for the efforts of Pentecostalism in the country. “They have seen a few jets. They ain’t seen nothing yet! More of us will yet buy and maintain our jets, because, by the mercy of God, we have been given the wisdom to do so. And we are willing to teach the nation, if they will listen to us, rather than throw stones.

“However, our critics should know that the jets mean nothing to us! They are just tools to do the work that God has given us in a more effective manner. Or how can an Adeboye who has churches in over 160 nations of the earth cope with his pastoral and apostolic responsibilities without some private jets! He does not need just one. He needs some!

“How can an Ayo Oritsejafor, who has to minister around the globe, pastor a very large congregation in Warri, and still attend to critical national matters in Abuja, if he has to keep waiting at the airports, in a system where nothing is predictable? Our critics should, please, note that more of us are following the trail of the like of Adeboye, whose wealth and affluence has never stopped him from being a true shepherd of the poor and downtrodden, in true humility, simplicity and godly sincerity, a shining example of true Pentecostalism and Charismatic wisdom,” he said.

Christianity EtcRe: Oyedepo's Claim That Covenant University Wasnt Built With Tithes - My Thoughts by Vincent41(m): 7:51pm On Dec 12, 2012
modicum: Bishop David Oyedepo may be right altogether in his assertion that the Covenant University was not built with tithes and offerings of parishioners. There are some possible scenarios and some very impossible ones in considerations here. Let's start with the impossible ones first

1.) He couldn't have raised the funds to build the university from the royalty he gets from his books
2.) He couldn't have done same from any form of income he makes that are legitimate (I will like to be taken up on that).
3.) He couldn't have done it with any partner(s) from abroad known or unknown.

The possibilities could be any or combination of the following
1.) Such huge funds could only be raised by investors that do not want to be named, which means it is a venture or an investment that pays dividends. That possibility is remote but could be advanced.
2.) He could have raised money from Capital market to do it, but no data to back up that argument publicly or secretly.
3.) Or is it possible that Oyedepo is being used to front private University by some powerful entity who doesn't want to be seen or known. Very remote possibility.
4.) Such huge funds can also be easily sourced if Oyedepo is into Oil deals and collecting subsidies (we just heard about one Folorunso Alakija topping Oprah's money as the richest woman in the world). There is huge money in the Nigeria Oil sector to be made, and I remember Obasanjo calling the prominent Nigerian Pastors contractors in religious cloak. Very high possibility if what Oyedepo claim is true
5.) The only other possibility is that Oyedepo is lying about his story. That's about 90% possible with me.

If you disown the people at a critical time like this then something is startegically wrong somewhere. Every missionary institution that I was born to see in Nigeria claim they built everything with donations and offerings of people elsewhere. This case is very different and we need to critically examine it.

Ptimes: The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday warned the public against indiscriminate consumption of sex enhancement drugs.

The Jigawa Coordinator of the agency, Kenneth Azikwe, said in Dutse, the Jigawa capital, that most of the libido drugs in circulation were not certified by the agency.

“The libido drugs in circulation are not certified by NAFDAC and the description on them is in Chinese and other alien languages,” he said. “Consumption of such drugs is harmful because its pharmaceutical composition could not be guaranteed.”

The coordinator further advised the public against patronising drug hawkers and self medication.
