Foreign AffairsRe: Protesters Clash In Ghana Over Election Results by Vincent41(m): 10:16am On Dec 12, 2012
topeorekoy: Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) today stabbed a New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporter around Nkrumah circle in Accra according to police authorities. The NPP supporter was in company of colleagues on their way to protest the results of last week's presidential election when an NDC supporter stabbed him in the arm.

The controversy over last Friday's election has degenerated in the last few days as supporters of Mr. Nana Akufo-Addo rejected the results of the election claiming it was marred by fraud.
Mr. Akufo-Addo has vowed to test the results of the election before the courts. However, his supporters have grown increasingly restless and embarked on street protests and sometimes attacked journalists in the nation's capital.

CrimeRe: Woman Jailed For Having Al-Qaeda Magazine by Vincent41(m): 1:39pm On Dec 11, 2012
post.email:
Curious readers beware: in the British police state, merely possessing a copy of the supposed al-Qaeda magazine Inspire will get you a twelve month stint in the hoosegow.
Last Thursday, the sister of two men convicted of planning a Christmas 2010 terror plot – including blowing up a toilet at the London Stock Exchange – was jailed after British authorities found a digital copy of the magazine on the memory card of her cell phone.

Judge Adrian Fulford said he accepted Ruksana Begum’s explanation that she downloaded the magazine to better understand her brothers’ case. He said, however, he had no choice but to send her to prison, according to the Associated Press.

Begum “accessed this material, which is easily accessible, before coming to London to understand the background and ideology which led to her brothers’ incarceration,” said her lawyer, Hossein Zahir.

Begum’s conviction and incarceration set a dangerous precedent – people can now be sent to prison for merely having literature on their computers and cell phones.

Inspire: A Magazine Produced by a Pentagon Dinner Guest

Inspire is said to be the work of Anwar al-Awlaki, the Pentagon dinner guest who worked for the FBI.

According to the official 9/11 narrative, al-Awlaki preached to three of the alleged 9/11 hijackers, the accused Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan and the so-called underwear bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. According to the government, he was promoted to the rank of “regional commander” within al-Qaeda in 2009. He was added the CIA’s list of targets because he was considered an “imminent threat” in 2010.

He was allegedly killed in October of 2011 by a CIA Predator drone in Yemen and supposedly called for biological attacks on America from the grave the following year.

In September 2011, Iran said the CIA is behind Inspire, not followers of Osama bin Laden, after the magazine criticized Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for stating that the U.S. government staged the 9/11 attacks as a pretext to invade and occupy the Middle East.

PoliticsRe: Kidnappers Of Okonjo-iweala's Mother Demand $1Billion Ransom by Vincent41(m): 8:09pm On Dec 10, 2012
truth4meal: The Kidnappers that Abducted 82 Years Old Mother Of Finance Minister Prof. Kanene Okonjo at their family home in Ogwashi uku, Delta state, are demanding for a whopping $1 billion ransom.
Majesty, Professor Chukwuka Aninshi Okonjo Agbogidi, the reigning Obi of Ogwashi-Uku kingdom was kidnapped Sunday at about 1:30 pm from the husband’s palace at Ogbe-Ofu quarters in Ogwahi-Uku by eight gunmen who stormed the palace in two Audi cars.

The demand for a $1billion ransom according to source was relayed to the family of the woman this morning.

Its yet to be seen how the family will react to this development, but in a statement made available to elombah.com yesterday, the minister's spokesman Paul Nwabuikwu said; "at this point, it is difficult to say whether those behind this action are the same people who have made threats against the Coordinating Minister in the recent past or other elements with hostile motives. No possibility can be ruled out at this point."

Meanwhile Umu Anioma Foundation Worldwide has demanded the immediate release Of Dr. Okonjo Iweala's Mother. In a statement made available to elombah.com and signed by Prince Charles Anyasi, the National Coordinator / Spokesman, the group said:

"Once again, the image smear on Delta State has been brought to the fore with the unfortunate kidnapping of the aged mother of Nigeria's energetic Finance Minister, Dr. (Mrs.) Ngozi Okonjo Iweala from her home in Ogwashi-Uku a few hours ago. A few months ago, it was the turn of another prominent Anioma family to sweat in search of their mother who was abducted in her farm.

"Nothing can be hurting as the current worldview of Delta State encapsulated in BBC's report of the unwholesome development, stating inter alia: Nigeria is one of the worst countries in the world for kidnapping, where it is a lucrative criminal enterprise worth millions of dollars a year.

"The crime is particularly prevalent in the oil-rich Delta State, although high-profile victims are uncommon.

"The question is; how did we get here? Whether this latest heinous act was orchestrated as a payback for the Finance Minister's principled stand on the current Oil Subsidy imbroglio or as a message to scare innocent indigenes making preparations to be with their kit and kin in this festive season, the perpetrators had better get it clear that, as Daniel Defoe would say, Justice is always violent to the party offending. Yes, the offenders may not feel the violence now, but, before long, they certainly will.

"Umu Anioma Foundation Worldwide wishes to state categorically that a situation where citizens toiling diligently for the society's positive turnaround are being punished by satanic elements can no longer be condoned. We demand the immediate and unconditional release of this old woman.

"As thousands of people get into celebration mood, many travelling to their respective home lands, we call on the security agents to beef up action and assure the public of safety.

"The time to act is now!"

CrimeRe: Suspect Conceals Heroin In TV Transformers by Vincent41(m): 7:06pm On Dec 03, 2012
OYINBOGOJU: A suspected drug trafficker Raphael Akachi was recently arrested after his temporary residence at Amuwo-Odofin was raided by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Akachi had hidden 29.4 grammes of heroin in television transformers. The drugs were to be taken to China where Akachi resides with his Chinese fiancée.

NDLEA Lagos commander, Aliyu Sule confirmed the arrest. He said, "Akachi is an experienced hand in drug trafficking; he has established links with drug trafficking syndicates in China. We were lucky to have raided his apartment while he was processing the drugs for export. Akachi gets his supplies from Pakistan and smuggles same to China. During the operation, his Liberty Jeep was confiscated and investigation is ongoing."

An alleged graduate of Anwaru Islam College, Agege, Akachi, who hails from Anambra state, was, prior to his arrest, making the final preparations to formalize his union with his Chinese fiancée.

"I take my time in concealing small quantities of Pakistani heroin in television transformers and fix them back into the power packs; I am not greedy for money. I regret my actions now and pray that my Chinese fiancé will understand and find a place in her heart to forgive me," the 30- year- old suspect said.

Commending the arrest, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, said, "The concealment was near perfect as it is unimaginable for drugs to be hidden inside transformers of television power packs. It was a sophisticated mode of operation. All drug traffickers irrespective of the quantity are enemies of the state and the agency is determined to dislodge them."

I think i can make a change by starting off by contesting for the chairmanship position in my local government, Enugu South LGA. It's not like i'm ready at the moment but i want to plan for the future. I chose to contest to become the LG chairman position because it's the closest government to the people. I want to make my LGA the pride of NIgeria and Africa. Infact, i don't mind being the LGA chairman for the next 50 years if the constitution permits as long as i can make my own little contribution in my local government.

Now, what are the things that i need to know and which party do you think is progressive and encourages young people like myself?

What's the minimum age to be elected in to such a position?

As an LGA chairman, how much power do i wield?

I'm currently working on my economic plan for my local government and i will also like ya'll to contribute and tell me what you think local governments need the most.

By SaharaReporters, New York
In a deathbed confession, a young suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber told an officer in Bauchi that the group was “doing God’s work” and would not stop.

The youth, who appeared to be between 20-24, was critically injured when bombs detonated and the explosion tore into his body, sending pieces in every direction.

The Bauchi State Police Command recalled his last words before his death. Spokesman Abdullahi Abubakar reported: “At around 5:05 pm yesterday in Bauchi town, our attention was drawn to a young man between the ages of 20 to 24 lying critically injured after an explosion. On reaching the youth, our anti-bomb team searched him and recovered a pistol and bomb. Before he died he told us that they are doing God’s work and will not stop,” – an apparent reference to Boko Haram.

On why the police moved him out of the hospital, the spokesman explained: “In the hospital we got an intelligence report that some people would come and take him away, and so we moved him to our headquarters under a drip with a doctor and it was with us that he later died because his legs were blown apart as were other parts of his body.”

PoliticsRe: Ojukwu’s ‘will’ Declared Fake by Vincent41(m): 9:40am On Dec 02, 2012
MAYOWAAK: Less than 24 hours after it was read in the Enugu High Court in Nigeria’s South-East, the will of late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has been dismissed as strange and unreliable by one of his closest confidants.

The name of Chief Sylvester Debe Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the 56 years old lawyer reported to be Ojukwu’s first son but who has had running battles with other family members since the old man’s death on November 26, 2011, is conspicuously missing from the will. Recognised as Ojukwu’s children in the will are Chukwuemeka Jnr, Mmegha, Okigbo, Ebele, Chineme, Afam, Nwachukwu and one Tenny Haman, who was previously unheard of.

Commenting this morning on the will, Uche Ezechukwu, Ojukwu’s biographer and one-time media aide, said: “Ojukwu’s will has been read and it gave nothing to his sons and almost everything to his widow. Is that not strange?

“Could Ojukwu, who was blind for four years before his death and had all but lost his memory, have written such a will with his senses intact? Just thinking aloud!”

Ezechukwu, a seasoned journalist and public analyst whose book ‘Ojukwu, the Rebel I Served,’ has received much praise, insisted that he knows all of Ojukwu’s children and that Sylvester is one of them.

According to the man who served as Ojukwu’s Speacial Assistant on Media for some two years: “The Ikemba had the following children: Sylvester, from an Udi woman when he was an Assistant Divisional Officer there; then Emeka Jnr, Mmegha (the first daughter) and Mr. Okigbo from Njideka (Ned Onyekwelu); Ebele from Stella (née Onyeador) and then the three kids from Bianca.”

Responding to questions and observations made by some of those who responded to his Facebook post, Ezechukwu said: “Accordingly, the will gave the family compound to Emeka. The Ikemba I knew understood Igbo culture very well and knew that you can’t will out your traditional compound as it automatically goes to the first son, who holds it in trust for the family. It continues to be held in trust by every first male child. So in practical sense, Emeka got nothing! Very abnormal!

“A man’s ancestral house is not part of the will. The first son automatically inherits it. That is the house you say he willed to Emeka. What of Okigbo and Sylvester?”

Ezechukwu, who is also Coordinator of the League of Anambra Media Professionals, advised that “the nation should get ready for perhaps the longest playing soap opera that will rubbish and dwarf all those acclaim we have had for Ojukwu.”

“I knew this rumpus would erupt and when I was writing my book on him, I dodged everything about his family,” he wrote. “I was there and knew his relationship with all his children before Bianca came. I didn’t want to become the source of the storm that started breaking even before the mourning dress was shed.”

HealthRe: Nigeria Ranked Among TOP 5 Countries That Defecate In The Open – UN by Vincent41(m): 10:15am On Nov 28, 2012
amor4ce: at 11/20/2012 05:45:00 AM

The United Nations on Monday in Abuja ranked Nigeria among top five countries in the world with the largest number of people defecating in the open.

The UN, which in its recent report, revealed that 34 million Nigerians defecate in the public, however, expressed optimism that ending the unhealthy practice was possible.

The UNICEF Communication Specialist (Media and External Relations) in Nigeria, Mr. Geoffrey Njoku, in a statement on the World Toilet Day, said trends in the past five years allow for cautious optimism that significant progress would be made in decreasing the number of people globally who practise open defecation.

Quoting a joint UNICEF and World Health Organisation report of 2012, Njoku said, “It is estimated that 34 million Nigerians practise open defecation and Nigeria is amongst top five countries in the world with largest number of people defecating in the open.”

According to him, in Nigeria, it is estimated that diarrhoea kills about 194,000 children under five every year while respiratory infections kill another 240,000.

“These are largely preventable with improvements in water, sanitation and hygiene,” he stressed.
Globally, UNICEF is supporting 50 countries including Nigeria to implement community approaches to total sanitation such as Community-Led Total Sanitation aimed at empowering communities to identify their sanitation challenges and take necessary actions to end open defecation.

He said, “CLTS aims to make all communities free of open defecation by focusing on social and behaviour change and the use of affordable, appropriate technologies.

“The emphasis is on the sustainable use of sanitation facilities, rather than the construction of infrastructure, and the approach depends on the engagement of members of the community ranging from individuals, to schools, to traditional leaders. Communities use their own capacities to attain their objectives and take a central role in planning and implementing improved sanitation.”

The UNICEF Country Representative in Nigeria, Ibrahima Fall, said, “CLTS is simple and an effective way of improving access to sanitation while also paving the way for their improved health.”
Meanwhile, a Non-Governmental Organisation, WaterAid Nigeria, on Monday in Abuja stated that Nigeria had been losing about N455bn annually due to poor sanitation and bad hygiene.

The organisation also said about 54 million Nigerian women and girls did not have safe and adequate sanitation while 17 million of them did not have a toilet at all.

The Country Representative of WAN, Mr. Michael Ojo, and Head of Governance, Tolani Busari, at a press briefing on the World Toilet Day, however, said the crisis could be solved.

PoliticsRe: Boko Haram Appoints New Mediators, Issues Letters Of Appointment by Vincent41(m): 7:51am On Nov 28, 2012
youngies: About a month after an alleged faction of Boko Haram announced its readiness to enter into dialogue with the federal government in order to end the bloody sectarian violence in Nigeria, the sect yesterday announced a new team that would speak with the federal government on its behalf.

Already, the sect has commenced issuing letters of appointment to those it selected for the new team.

The sect also said it has replaced former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) with a renowned Islamic cleric, Alhaji Goni Gapchiya, as leader of its negotiation team.

Buhari had turned down Boko Haram’s request for him to head its proposed dialogue team.

We reliably gathered in Maiduguri that notable Borno state elders like Shettima Ali Monguno and Ambassador Gaji Galtimari have received their letters of appointment into Boko Haram’s new negotiation team and equally signed a dispatch sheet to signify their readiness to participate in the mediation.

It was also learnt that a former governor of Yobe state, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, had his letter delivered to him through his wife Hajiya Maryam Bukar Abba Ibrahim, who is a permanent secretary in the Borno state civil service.

Others that were said to have received their letters of appointment were one Justice Zanna Wakil of the Borno state judiciary and his wife Barrister Aisha Wakil.

However, the newly appointed team leader, Sheikh Gapchiya, has not been able to receive his letter of appointment as he is in Saudi Arabia on official Hajj duty.

A copy of the letter, which was written by hand and signed by one Sheikh Abu Muhammed Ibn Abdulazziz, was made available to reporters in Maiduguri yesterday.

The letter simply reiterated the content of the sect’s earlier press conference in which they named the persons as those that could mediate between them and the federal government.

The recipients have all signed a dispatch sheet, suggesting that they have accepted to serve in the committee.

FashionRe: Chinese Grandfather Models Teen Girls' Clothing by Vincent41(m): 4:38am On Nov 28, 2012
luvable sam: A Chinese grandfather has won worldwide fame after photographs of him modelling women's clothing were posted to the internet.

Seventy two year old Liu Xianping posed in outfits from his granddaughter's fashion store Yuekou for a joke.

But when Ms Lv posted the snaps online, the two were surprised to find the photos go viral almost overnight.

What began as a lighthearted joke fast became a successful publicity campaign after the images went global - and Ms Lv saw sales soar.

According to China Newsweek, Ms Lv said the stunt was all her grandfather's idea.

'He picked up one piece and tried to give some advice on how to mix and match,' she said. 'We thought it was fun so we started shooting.'

The outfits, designed for teenaged girls, feature bright pink capes, striped tights and over the knee socks, with plenty of lace, ribbon and frippery.

Chenille scarves and pink-framed sunglasses finish off the looks, and Liu carries a wine-coloured handbag in many of the shots.
Posing in a sequence of outfits, his long slim legs and slender physique shows Yuekou's clothing off to its full advantage - and has earned the store infinite more hits than if a regular model had been used.

Indeed, since Liu's photographs, posted on Tmall, one of China's leading retail sites, went viral, sales at Yuekou have increased fivefold.

Liu's legs are reportedly the envy of women all over China - even the world. 'He has such a good figure,' offbeatchina.com reported one fan as saying. 'He has such a good figure, especially those legs!' and another likening the elderly gent to Karl Lagerfeld.

For his part, Liu told China Newsweek that he is glad to model for the store - and happy to be able to help his family.

'Why unacceptable for someone like me to wear women’s clothes? Modelling for the store is helping my granddaughter and I have nothing to lose,' he said.

'We were very happy on the day of the shooting. I’m very old and all that I care about is to be happy.'

PoliticsRe: Cheers As Atiku Stoops To Greet Obasanjo In Katsina by Vincent41(m): 4:27am On Nov 27, 2012
dapachez: The crowd at the venue of the 2012 Comptroller-General of Customs’ conference in Katsina applauded as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar knelt down to greet his former boss, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Atiku and Obasanjo, who served as vice president and president of Nigeria respectively, between 1999-2007, had an estranged relationship during the last lap of their second term in office.

Both men were among a retinue of VIPs invited to the opening of the week long Comptroller-Generals’ conference held at the newly inaugurated auditorium of Katsina State University.

Obasanjo, who arrived ahead of Atiku, was seated next to second republic President Shehu Shagari and the Ooni of Ife, Okunade Sijuwade.

Atiku, who arrived nearly 40-minutes after his former boss, first greeted the Emir of Gwandu, Muhammad Iliyasu; Emir of Katsina, Abdulmimini Usman; the Ooni and Shagari who were seated at the podium.

When he got to Obasanjo, the former vice president knelt down and bowed his head to greet his former boss.

The delighted crowd followed the mild drama with applause.

Earlier, Vice President Namadi Sambo, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan, had inaugurated the 1,500 capacity auditorium of the Katsina State University, venue of the conference.

Two former heads of state, top traditional rulers from different geo-political zones in Nigeria, former Comptroller-Generals of Customs and Customs chiefs from the Africa region attended the opening event.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, delivered a goodwill message, where he challenged the Customs to go beyond its statutory role of combating smuggling of goods.

Tambuwal listed other roles of the service to include revenue collection, trade facilitation and border protection.

He urged the service to collaborate with other relevant agencies in the country to improve their services.

He pledged that the National Assembly would support the ongoing review of the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) to enable the service discharge its function optimally
