CrimeRe: Man Bites-Off Lover’s Ear On Valentine's Day In Lagos by Vincent41(m): 2:45am On Feb 22, 2013
Truckpusher: A 25-year-old tiler, Ebenezer Makati, who allegedly bit off part of his girlfriend’s two ears, following a lover's spat, on Tuesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Makati, who lives on Marwa Street, Elf Bus Stop, Lekki, is facing a two-count charge of unlawful assault and infliction of grievous bodily harm on his girlfriend, Peace Tunde.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Ighodalo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 16 at the Goshen Estate in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos at 11:00 p.m.

He said that the lovers fought following the absence of Tunde at the residence of the accused on Valentine’s Day.

According to him, the couple had been in a relationship since 2010.

Ighodalo said that accused went to Tunde’s house to confront her over her absence at his place on Valentine’s Day and to inquire who the man was that picked her phone when he called.

``When he did not get the desired response from her, Makati, who claimed to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time, beat her up and bit off parts of her ears,” Ighodalo said.

He added that the offences contravened Sections 171 and 243 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate, Mrs O. M. Ajayi, granted Mataki bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to March, 6. (NAN)

SportsRe: Kalou Pays Mikel $5,000 Bet After Eagles Won by Vincent41(m): 1:28pm On Feb 04, 2013
sdav: Ivory Coast midfielder Salomon Kalou confirmed he has paid John Obi Mikel $5,000 following a bet regarding the outcome of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final tie against Nigeria on Sunday.

The two African powerhouses clashed at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium for a place in the last-four, with the Super Eagles emerging 2-1 victors after Sunday Mba cancelled out Cheick Tiote's equaliser following Emmanuel Emenike's 42nd-minute opener.

Speaking after the game, Kalou revealed the bet with his former Chelsea team-mate, and said he has stuck to his word and paid up.

"It was a very good game with Nigeria and they truly deserved to win. They started the game very well and scored at the right time. Now I've fulfilled my part to him (Mikel)," said the 27-year-old forward.

Mikel, meanwhile, was happy to have won the wager, but was even more delighted to have seen Nigeria overcome the Elephants to progress to the penultimate stage of Africa's biggest tournament.

"We are very happy with our achievement. A big congratulations to Ivory Coast for their achievement so far," he said.

"We knew that they are a good team so if we were able to work together and play for each other on the pitch, we could stop them playing. And that's exactly what we have done."

With the new over priced and over hyped BB10, i hope BB lovers know that BIS is not supported on this new flagship from BB. Supsequently it will be migrated to older OS eventually. Nigeria holds the leading market in BB globally. My analysis is that if BIS goes away and since RIM is dead due to name change then BB will follow suit since Nigerians are addicted to data compression and almost unlimited data via BIS. Well i think it's time to move on.
Iphone still operates a closed system and Android is open to everything and everyone. So i guess it's Android all the way. Well this is just my opinion, you are entitled to yours.

https://iyaniwura.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/KUMB3.gif

Predominantly Muslim, Northern Nigeria is made up of 19 states, and as at 2012, 12 of these states have instituted the Sharia Law. Thus, this is the last place one will expect a female monarch ruling over thousands of subjects. Well, that is precisely the case of Her Royal Highness, Queen Hajiya Hadizatu Ahmed, the Magajiya & Paramount Ruler of Kumbwada in Kano State. Thanks to a curse placed about 200 years ago, this is one place where a man can never sit on the throne and rule. Those that attempted it were said to have paid dearly and did not spend more than seven days as ruler as they were said to have all died mysteriously. Interesting. But the story is just starting.

For more than six generations now, Kumbwada has been ruled by a female. Queen Hadizatu Ahmed has an unquestionable authority over her people, who number over 33,000 as at 2007. O boy, that’s something! Listen to her:

“My father (Prince Amadu Kumbwada) decided to see if he could break the spell but he failed. In his first week on the throne he became so sick that he had to abdicate and was rushed out of the village. He died three weeks later.”

Now in her early 60s and having been on throne for more than 12 years, Queen Ahmed is still ruling in a society that is mainly male-dominated and intensely paternalistic. According to her, the curse was placed about two centuries ago by another legendary woman, the warrior princess Magajiya Maimuna (Magajiya is a title of honour for women in this part of Nigeria). She led her cavalry and troops from Zaria and then conquered the queendom. After the conquest, Magajiya Maimuna decided to install her brother as the ruler but he became ill and died in under a week. She replaced him with her second brother and he met the same fate. After the loss of her two brothers, she took the bull of Kumbwada by the horns and made herself the Queen. She ruled for 83 years, says Queen Ahmed, as she adjusted her white veil. Her own grandmother ruled for 73 years until she died at 113. I am trusting their records o!

She says: “I don’t face any resistance from my subjects, they obey my commands as they obey their God because I’m a fair ruler who ensures justice in my kingdom. It’s a women’s affair. Women are the rulers and they rule as effectively as men, sometimes even better than men.”

From time to time, her male subjects led by their chief imam (religious leader) visit her in the palace to pay homage and listen to all she has to say while nodding in submission. That reminds Iyaniwura of the other northern monarchs like the Sultan of Sokoto, Emir of Zazzau and the Shehu of Borno who receive endless praises (rankayadede thins) from their subjects. But she is not as wealthy as her male counterparts. She has a simple blue silk-embroidered chair as her throne (don’t compare that with the gold-gilded throne of Dr. Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano). The chief imam supports her and despite the criticism from other clerics, he says:

“We can’t live without a leader, and the fact that any male rulers that ascend the throne die quickly and mysteriously while female rulers reign for many years makes our case a peculiar one,” Muhammad says. “This is an exceptional situation none of us can change.”

The pastor of our great church, the Household of God, Oregun, Lagos, Rev. Chris Okotie has finally laid to rest speculations about his future marriage which have been the subject of media controversy since his separation from his former wife, Stephanie Henshaw last year.
He announced to the church during the evening service on Wednesday, January 09, 2013, his decision not to remarry which he said is final and irrevocable, having already settled the matter with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Taking cognisance of the wide media interest that this issue is likely to generate, we decided to make this statement to pre-empt mischief makers from distorting the facts.
The pastor assures his well wishers, friends and numerous supporters around the world that he is completely at peace with himself and his God in arriving at this historic decision.

PoliticsRe: I Was Not Arrested By EFCC - Soludo by Vincent41(m): 6:05pm On Jan 12, 2013
Sunny_bobo: Former Governor of the Central Bank (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has denied reports that he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, insisting that rather, he was invited by the agency to make clarifications on some issues on a matter under investigation.

However, a source at the commission said Soludo was granted administrative bail and was allowed to go home, having been grilled for several hours by the commission’s team of investigators.

The source said his international and diplomatic passports were seized after he had produced two sureties at the level of Permanent Secretaries or Directors.

The source added: “But that is not the end because he is also expected back for further interrogation.

“I don’t have much details on the other 12 ex-staff of CBN and the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company who were linked with the scam; it is not as if the suspects are here.

“But a number of them have been questioned over time and they are both from NSPMC and CBN, it is not as if they are in our station at the moment.”

But a close aide of Soludo denied that his passports were seized or that he was granted any administrative bail, or that he provided any sureties.

A statement by his media office Friday said the former CBN Governor voluntarily went to the EFCC office to honour the commission’s invitation.

The statement signed by Bonaventure Melah said Soludo was neither arrested nor escorted to EFCC office by operatives of the commission as was reported.

“We want to put it on record clearly that the media reports that Professor Chukwuma Soludo was arrested by the operatives of the EFCC in Abuja is totally false or to say the least written in error.

“The fact of the matter is that the EFCC wrote a letter to Prof. Soludo inviting him to their Abuja office on the 10th of January 2013. EFCC’s invitation letter to Prof. Soludo was dated 20th December 2012.

“Soludo was abroad attending to several international engagements when the letter was sent to his aides. As a law-abiding citizen of the country, Soludo returned to Nigeria in the New Year and honoured EFCC invitation on January 10th as requested.

“He voluntarily went from his home to EFCC office on Thursday. He was neither arrested nor escorted by any operative of the Commission.

“The EFCC letter of invitation to Soludo states that: ‘This Commission is investigating a case in which the need to obtain certain clarifications from you has become imperative.’

“It was a two-paragraph letter which also indicated date and time for the meeting between Prof. Soludo and officials of the Commission,” the statement added.

The Guardian yesterday learnt that Soludo alongside others were quizzed by the anti-graft agency on the processes adopted in handling the contract and not on any alleged bribery.

A top official of the anti-graft agency, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the issues of alleged contract bribery did not come up during the interrogations, rather the agency was looking at the processes adopted in awarding the contract.

According to the official, Soludo made some clarifications on the issue on Thursday and was allowed to go home.

On how contract for currency adoption or printing is being awarded, a top official of the apex bank said that the first step is for the President to give approval, after which CBN gives the job to the Nigerian Minting and Printing Company or any other printing company. The minting and printing company will now source for polymer from Securency.

“CBN does not award contract for such job nor has any direct contractual arrangement with Securency. So there should be no link between CBN and the Australian polymer company’, the official said.

The decision to look into the polymer deal was triggered by a petition by Human and Environmental Development Agenda, headed by Olanrewaju Suraju, demanding the investigation and possible prosecution of those involved in the alleged contract scam.

Sources also indicated that other top management staff of the CBN who had worked during Soludo’s tenure were also picked and are currently being held alongside other ex-staff of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company.

However, all efforts to get the identity of other detained suspects proved abortive, as no one was willing to volunteer information. Sources also stated that the commission had been conducting discreet investigations on the contract scam before Soludo’s eventual invitation, adding that as a prelude, several officials of the NSMPC and the CBN had been quizzed.

Ahead of the 2010 Anambra governorship election in which Soludo contested as the governorship candidate of the PDP after a protracted legal battle that terminated at the apex court three day to the election, the issue of the alleged polymer note bribery allegation was levelled against Soludo by some of his political opponents. This followed a report by an Australian newspaper that there was a global investigation on Securency and its agents all over the world which revealed that the agents must have bribed public officials of countries that adopted polymer.

In an exclusive interview with The Guardian, Soludo said: “CBN under my leadership never awarded any contract to Securency. I was not aware and did not know of anybody who may have been given money for anything. I would be surprised if any such thing happened.”

cr8v: What Surprise Are You Expecting From President's 2013 New Year Address?

I am not against Mr President but I think he has a lot of surprise package for Nigerians. On the first of January this year, the president announced an increase in the price of petrol. It was unexpected and Nigerians were taken by surprise. The year started with a protest that the opposition tried to hijack to their advantage

Come the Democracy Day broadcast, Mr President also changed the name of UNILAG to MAULAG after the late MKO. Many people including the staff of the university were taken by surprise as they were not contacted before the change. Though the court was later to rule in favour of UNILAG as against MAULAG

Now January 1 is around the corner and Mr President is going to address us again, what surprise should we be expecting?

Charles. E:
Any entity that employs unauthorized killing as a principle in achieving whatever goal it aspires is EVIL. Henceforth it is evident that the evil of terror is not confined to a small group of fanatical Muslims youth that employ the tools of terror to achieve their goals or revenge any perceived injustice against them or against Muslims as they claim. The Evil of terror is bigger and greater than that. The Evil of terror knows no boundary, religious, ethnic or racial. Evil killers are found everywhere.

For the Muslims, we are very fortunate that only a small fraction of misguided youth have recently adopted this evil ideology. Islam has seriously condemned the unauthorized killing of souls. The authority in Islam only belongs to a government duly elected by the consensus of the Ummah. We therefore see that except for very few instances, Muslims do not commit murder. The rampant murder committed in the west, is as a result of the irreligious life the west has adopted and bears little with the clamor of gun control. In Yemen, the populace is armed yet such murders are not an occurrence because Islam instills in the individual the discipline of self-restrain and control and forbids taking of one’s life and that of the others too. This cannot be said about the other religions.

The more deadly evil, is that evil that camouflage behind the ‘government’s security agencies’ to kill innocent people either to perpetuate power or score some political goals. For instance in Nigeria we have seen how some Christian elements in the Nigerian security apparatus have been killers of innocent Muslims leaders for political reasons. Such elements are deadlier evil than boko haram. They aimed to destroy the Muslims as a whole by decapitating their leadership thus exposing the Ummah to perpetual subservience. That is why, Ababakar Tafawa Balewa, Sardauna, Akintola, and Gen Murtala all went victims of these terrorist.

These similar terrorist are still the ones now that are supposedly ‘leading’ the war against terror or war against boko haram. It is a double edge sword of r them. Kill Muslim leaders and kill the youth at the same time all under camouflage. They are entrenched in the security apparatus. They are retiring good Muslims in the armed forces to enable them perfect their evil plans they started since 1966. They think they are in control because they are blinded by hate, rancor and evil, they cannot see that their evil is exposed and evident. They cannot see that Allah Has taken up the fight against them since their intentions are evil. Kaduna was meant to be devoured like Maiduguri when Allah The Al-mighty stroke.

They cannot see that you don’t guaranty your life by killing others; you do that by giving life to others. They fantasize that they can keep power by evil machinations whereas power belongs to Allah. Nigeria can only know peace and stability when such evil elements of the security apparatus are flushed out of the system instead of the good diligent officers. This is the deadliest segment that has been neglected and the public should know and watch. Evil will never prosper.

May Allah protect us all from all Evil.

Dutse—Each police check point along Kano-Jigawa highway make an average of N100,000 daily from the compulsory N20 ‘toll’ they collect from motorists travelling on the road, which leads to other north eastern states. No fewer than 5,000 vehicles ply the road daily.

Vanguard findings revealed that motorists pay the bribe to avoid being delayed by those manning the checkpoints. Those who fail to pay are delayed until they comply.

The checkpoints, which were re-introduced because of terrorists’ activities, have been turned into fast money-making avenues by the Police officers.

A commercial vehicle driver, Malam Abdullahi, lamented that most drivers were compelled to pay the fee as any attempt to resist the payment could infuriate the policemen into keeping the ‘’culprit’’ for a longer time. He added that commercial drivers spend between N120 and N140 at the various checkpoints on each trip between Jigawa and Kano states.

He said their union leaders once took a decision that drivers should stop paying money at the checkpoint. He said the action could not last more than 48 hours as they had to pay or park by the road side, wasting valuable time.

Vanguard also gathered that the police officers, who perpetrate the act, were posted from other states and were neither under Jigawa nor Kano states police commands.

TravelRe: Bayelsa Helicopter Crash: I suspect Foul Play – Governor Suswan by Vincent41(m): 2:19pm On Dec 21, 2012
ben4ever: There seems to be no end to insinuations that Saturday’s helicopter crash, which killed a serving governor and a former national security adviser, was a sabotage.

Fingers have pointed at incumbent National Security Adviser, who has since denied any involvement. The Navy’s pronouncement that the crashed helicopter was airworthy also lent credence to the sabotage theory, which was further fueled, Monday, by comments attributed to Gabriel Suswan, the governor of Benue State, who alleged there was a plot to annihilate Christian governors from the North.

Suswan alleged that there were plans by the Boko Haram Islamic militant sect to attack him, and called on Christians in the country to pray fervently for him.

Addressing communicants of NKST Church, in High Level quarters, Makurdi on Monday, he decried a situation where only four of all the governors in the north are Christian.

“With the demise of Sir Patrick Yakowa and the almost hopeless condition of Suntai, only two of them are left standing,” he said. “I went to Germany to see Suntai and I could not believe what I saw.”

Only last month, Governor of Taraba State, Danfulani Danbaba Suntai, a Christian, was involved in a ghastly chopper crash and he is still in a very critical condition at a German hospital.

The death of Gov. Yakowa was greeted with jubilation in the street of Kaduna by Muslims, who had been unhappy that a Christian was at the helm of affair in the state, thus corroborating Suswan’s claim.
