PoliticsRe: Amaechi: PDP Senators Reject Confirmation by vislabraye(m): 8:49am On Nov 04, 2015
myners007:
THERE was a mild drama yesterday during Senate plenary when Senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) refused to support the approval of the votes and proceedings of last week Thursday.

PDP Senators had walked out of the Chamber when their All Progressives Congress (APC) counterparts subdued them to confirm a former governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, as a minister.

Amaechi was accused by the state government of mismanagement of the resources when he was governor. On that basis, the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions investigated the claim and recommended that the Senate should not confirm him (Amaechi) since the matter was still pending in court.

After intense dialogue, persuasion and disagreements, the ruling party confirmed him, demonstrating that in democracy, minority will always have their say and the majority will have their way.

However, at the plenary yesterday, the opposition PDP lawmakers brought back to memory, what transpired last Thursday, by refusing to approve the chamber’s last votes and proceedings.‎

At the resumption of plenary, Senate President Bukola Saraki called Senator Isiaka Adeleke to move a motion for the adoption of the votes and proceedings of the Senate of October 29.

After Adeleke moved the motion, Saraki, in line with parliamentary practice, asked Senator Peter Nwaoboshi (PDP, Delta North) to second the motion, but he declined to perform the legislative function.

Explaining why he refused to second the motion, Nwaoboshi said: “My President, I will not be able to second the motion because I was not at the plenary to know what was done.”

Saraki called on Senator Ibrahim Gobir to second the motion, which he did promptly. Then Saraki put the question for the approval of the votes and proceedings.

While the members of the APC shouted a resounding ‘aye’, the angry PDP senators shouted a reverberating ‘nay’, to express their disapproval of the confirmation of Amaechi. The PDP caucus met thereafter.

What sort of partial fight against corruption is Buhari fighting ? If some people could be tried, why not others ?

PoliticsRe: Pro-jonathan Elements Behind Renewed Agitation For Biafra - Senator Sani by vislabraye(m): 8:05pm On Nov 02, 2015
TheImp:
The senator representing Kaduna North Senatorial zone, Kaduna state, Senator Shehu Sani, at the weekend alleged that the new  agitation for the sovereign state of Biafra was being sponsored by pro-Jonathan forces who lost the 2015 general elections.

According to him, their aim is to destroy the administration of President Mohammadu Buhari by igniting a national conflict , chaos and confusion in the country.

Sani, who spoke on Sunday when a youth group from  southern  Kaduna paid him a courtesy call in his office in Kaduna, described the renewed agitation for Biafra as misguided and ill conceived.

"The Biafra agitation is a new attempt to destroy the Mohammadu Buhari administration and to ignite a national conflict and cause chaos, pandemonium , confusion in the country.

"I  see it as a plan B action of the pro-Jonathan forces who lost election in the 2015 national elections. I will also say that the agitation is not reflective of the generality of the interest of the Igbo people of the south-east," Sani said.

According to him, since after the Nigerian civil war which ended in 1970, the Igbos  have made tremendous progress in business, entrepreneurship, academics, politics and very sphere of life, stressing that their future is better guaranteed and sustained within a united Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: What I Saw At A Rich Politician's Party. by vislabraye(m): 9:01am On Nov 02, 2015
shortgun:
I was a guest at a party organized by one of the bigwigs as far as politics is concerned is in the country.

We were doing our thing........drinking expensive wines and dancing to music by some of best Nigerian artistes when suddenly a big coaster bus drove into the expansive compound with two police escort vehicles.
We were just wondering who the passengers were only to discover that the bus was filled with young girls.

The oldest among the girls should not be more than 23....I believe most the girls were sourced from secondary schools. I came to understand that some of the Aides to these big men normally arrange for these young girls on the instructions of there Principals whenever they want to host their friends.

The Oga on whose compound we were partying just came out and selected some of the girls and took them inside. He then said to us "Guys pick anyone you like and go enjoy yourselves".

I was not able to sleep throughout that nite.....These are men who have daughters of the same age with the ones they are sleeping with.
These are men that most young people see as role models.

I lost my respect for these so called "elder statesmen" that nite.
Wetin you expect ?

Or was it the pass administration that prevented you for choosing your cabinet ?
Is it the GEJ that told you not to give ministers their portfolio ?

Buhari is yet to visit the family of Awolowo, instead he sent his wife after a month. Considering the VP's wife is grand daughter to HID, the least the dullard should have done was to send his wife after a few days, no, he waited nearly a month.
Is the emir of Borgu more iconic than HID?

SHhhhh!!!!! Don't tell anybody they've been used and dumped.

I see nothing wrong with that. We're not in the 50s & marriage is not for everyone. Better stay single than make a horrible wife.
I was about to ask the Op why he's making such generic statements until I read you response.
May be you didn't understand what he meant by "...,meeting every deeek and Harry"

He meant SA ladies would prefer to forrk every deeek and harry that comes their way than to get married to one man. And you think that's ok huh

PoliticsRe: I Want To Be Remembered For Fighting Corruption To A Standstill – Buhari by vislabraye(m): 5:50pm On Nov 01, 2015
Sibrah:
I appeal to all childish wailers that they give our President the chance to fight corruption as he has said. It will be hard to have another person come on board and give corruption a fight like Buhari would. Let's forget all the APC vs PDP rivalry and allow this man achieve his goal. Even though he had to come on the APC platform, I know we need to soft-pedal our critism of him.
I also want the Buhari admin to focus on building stronger institution that can resist the forces of corruption for a long time to come. He may go after individuals to make a point on the short run, but the institution he leaves behind can be compromised when he is gone.
All those shouting Tinubu and Ameache should know that corruption as a force in Nigeria knows no party or tribe, the other day it was one "Kolawole" aiding a "Madueke" in concealing loots. Let's give a leader whose truly passionate about positive change a chance and stop the propaganda of 'one chance'
What we hear are rhetorics like this. If he fights corruption without fear or favour, Nigerians will support him.

Op,I wonder why you people refuse to have any iota of sense and continue to embrace lies as a means of opposition.
Where in d article u sourced was sacking of civil servants mentioned? So pruning ministries in your limited education now equates to sacking of civil servants.
Indeed d opposition has a long hard road of pain to travel with dis daily dose of lies.
If he prunes down the ministry, he will have merge the existing ones without sacking.

The post is very enlightening. The points are worth noting too.
Firstly our education system needs to be addressed, most especially in the technical areas. But by and large, Nigerian graduates have great potentials.
Not many of us have access to study abroad but the few who go are usually exceptional. But we as graduates should take it upon ourselves to stand out. Another unfortunate thing is that we have few jobs and a lot of graduates.
