This woman was neither a government official nor the wife of a president but she is the richest woman in Nigeria, according to Forbes

This must have taken a lot of hard work and diligence to achieve, regardless of the alleged support she got from politicians. if it was that easy, why didn't the members of my family and your families gain similar favors.

let us learn to respect or at least acknowledge achievements of others because that is the only way we can understand what it takes to achieve something in life.

I don't know if this piece is indeed true.

If it is, there's a lot to take away.

There is a key lesson here for those on this platform who enjoy spreading the false narrative that only soldiers undecided make 'sacrifices' towards nation building. This man isn't a soldier. He has no guns or horsewhips which to kill, brutalize or maim fellow citizens. He is a civil servant facing incredible odds - and yet he faces those odds and soldiers (in the true sense of the word) on.

There's often a lot of talk here about how the military pay the supreme price in combat and as such they should be 'respected'. undecided What of this man? He could easily drown or be savaged by wild animals in those waters. Would his death (if it were to happen) be less noble?

The difference is that this man has earned respect for his sacrifice. He didn't demand it. He didn't decree it into existence.

He earned it.

I will llke to answer your question in a new trend.

Thanks.
^^^^

No Sir.

We are not 'gradually going out of the original topic'. At the heart of what you term 'law school codes of conduct vs national constitution' is the primacy of federal law in this republic. That same issue of primacy of federal law is also the crux of the matter in the issue I brought up - i.e. the adoption of religious law by state legislatures in Nigeria. The core issues are exactly the same.

Firdaus and her supporters cannot claim her rights are being abridged by the Nigerian Law School and at the same time support (covertly or overtly) the abridgement of the rights of other Nigerians.

It doesn't work that way.

But i wonder y u fail to ask pple who av been giving sentimental and baseless opinions on dis issue. I av not in any way attached sentiment to dis issue. I really don't have much to say to to those who, as you say are using "abusive words and hatred" on this matter. Name calling adds nothing to this discussion and so I avoid calling on those posters who are so angry and emotional that they have refused to address this matter in a logical manner.

Having said that, I am going somewhere with my questions on this issue. I am interested in your statement about how you apply "secular law to things that are constitutional". I am also interested in your views about the adoption of Islamic Sharia law as state law by several state legislatures in Northern Nigeria. I am sure you are aware that some parties have challenged the adoption in court. But I want to know what you think about the issue.

In the end, Firdaus and her supporters are likely to continue piling on the pressure until something gives. Run through this thread and others and you will understand what I am talking about.

If a "political" solution is not found soon, Firdaus will aim to prove in court that her rights have been abridged. The ruling on this is anyone's guess.

Lol... Dear madam/sir
D regulation i stated earlier is d regulation 16(3) of d regulations of d Law School. And it doesn't condemn d use of hijab to call to bar.

Maybe u don't know. No regulation or codes of conduct should b against d Federal Constitution. D law school are against wat d national constitution says in d section 38 of 1999 constitution. Am xooo ashamed my Nigeria law school are blending prospectitive lawyers to act contrary to d federal constitution.

I will ask u dis simple and straightforward question. Is a mere regulation of a school above d a country's Federal Constitution? Knowing fully well dat code of conduct of any organization must go in line with d national constitution.
^^^^

Thank you for your response.

You have stated in very clear terms that the constitution takes precedence over other laws.

My response to your question about precedence is equally clear: A school's regulations are subordinate to the federal constitution.

I have another question for you sir/ma'am: what actions would you recommend when someone makes laws that clash with supreme federal law?

I'm just surprised how citizens of Nigeria are xooo sentimental about d issue of Amasa. I'm a muslim, when it comes to secular issues, i dont attach sentiments. Many of u are just using ur brain or let me say level of understanding to give opinions, very few understands laws of d land. Many don't even know wat d regulation of d school actually says. D regulation says:

"Every student proposed and approved for call to the Bar shall, on any Call Night, be dressed in his BIBS and BARRISTER'S gown but shall not place his wig on his head until he has been called to the Bar by the Chairman".
Please note dat the provision above did not make any provision on exposing one's natural hair. It could be argued dat their was no mention of hijab in dat section, the answer to dat is there was equally no mention of trousers, suit, shirt, skirt, pant, etc. The only reasonable conclusion is dat d hijab is not prohibited by d regulations guiding d operations of d body of benchers who are saddled with calling eligible persons to d bar.

Nigeria does not need SOMEONE new, we need SOMETHING new. The presidential system is not meant, and cannot be suitable for a heterogeneous state like Nigeria cos it relies heavily on PATRIOTISM to be successful(think about it; an individual with absolute power, and with the majority of those who are to checkmate his powers being in same party as him)

Apart from the renowned patriotic giants- America, use your Google to check which other first world country that practises the presidential system. In the whole of Europe, only Cyprus has a pure presidential system like Nigeria, and as u can see they're not even anywhere close to the top successful EU nations.

Presidential is mostly associated with 3rd world Asian and African countries that keep circling around year to year, India just escaped this same retrogression soon after they switched to parliamentary system where ur own people are always there to be held accountable with nobody to blame or nowhere to hide. Read more about parliamentary system here: https://www.nairaland.com/4300219/presidential-vs-parliamentary-systems-government

We once had that, but since absolute power is the sweetest thing of all, they scrapped it and never considered the heterogeneousness of the country as it affects electing a single person to have absolute power.

It's being 55 years now we kicked the parliamentary system since 1963, anything to show for it? If not hate, Tribalism, nepotism, sectionalism, partialism, intimidation, press censorship, aspersions, blames, power intoxication, militancy, rebellion, gross corruption with no accountability, to name a few.

1. I'm an Engineer (elect) and can boldly tell you that all meters I've come across in 9ja can be bypassed.

2. PHCN do come around to check and some get busted and forced to pay 3 months backdated estimated bill which is more expensive than if u had been recharging. It's hard to see my neighbors meter when PHCN come around because it is discreetly blocked in the guise of using net on burglary and they pretend to not be at home whenever PHCN comes knocking.

3. I can't speak in support for dishing out of high estimated bills but trust me, you'll discover that some houses in a street consume as much energy as a factory, some are literally factories diguised as residential houses. PHCN simply divide the total energy consumed in the street by the number of houses on the street in a given month and gbam you've got your monthly estimated bill. A person can be using just a bulb in one room self contained and still be billed for a 3 bedroom flat consumption. Innocent people paying for the wickedness of their street neighbors.
^^^^

Sadly, point 1 seems to be true.

Meters in my residential area were replaced recently with a lot of singing, drumming and dancing about how "the meters cannot be by-passed".

The very evening the meters were installed, a resident got an electrican to by-pass the meter and the electrician did so successfully within 45 minutes. The property manager promised to report the matter but so far nothing has come out of it. The sad truth is that PHCN officials are complicit. I personally reported a case of meter by-passing to PHCN 2 years ago but PHCN did absolutely nothing. Their staff turned up and made a lot of noise before going back the way they came - without doing anything to the offenders. Unfortunately that area is paying a heavy price now - the entire area has been cut off from transmission because of this meter tampering even though not every one was involved in the theft.

As for your other points, this is just Nigerian inefficiency at work (or is it at play angry) here. Tamper proof meters DO exist but Nigeria is not serious about getting them. When we are serious we will do what is required. This estimated billing nonsense is also nothing but a racket which PHCN is feeding fat on.

The bottomline is that when Nigerians are truly fed up they know what to do.

Nigerians have to decide.

When the church building collapsed last year there was a lot of pain and sorrow expressed here on this platform. Real people with families, jobs and lives to live DIED in that disaster.

The living have since moved on. It would be more accurate to say they have forgotten the dead but that wouldn't 'sound right' to our hypocritical ears that are dead to justice and truth. Did the AKSG set up a panel to investigate the collapse of that structure? If it did, where is the report? Twelve months is more than enough to get answers. Where is the report?

These are the questions that need answers. This fellow challenging the AKSG has made several solid points. Several. (One can only hope he won't sing a different tune tomorrow). The fellow is asking the hard questions (that must be asked) and his critics are threatening eternal damnation - all because he has refused to follow blindly. undecided
