motymop: Fake story.
One of the lies they always tell Nigerian men abroad is that your wife can just throw you out of the house.
Your wife can't throw you out of the house no unless she obtained an occupation order from the court
Another lie is that, if you are caught cheating, your wife can take half of your property.
Most of these lies is to make Nigerian men loyal abroad. Oga, if the spouse are in heated argument and police is called in, police will throw the man out for the night and give the wife the opportunity to file an occupation order, or whatever against the husband. Especially considering that children are involved. |

motymop: I am not against anyone going abroad.
I am actually replying you to counter your lies.
Nigeria is not a perfect place but people are also having a better life here.
Some workers are traveling abroad because they are misinformed, a bank manager leaves his job for abroad, only to come abroad and stay at the bottom of the food chain, he starts regretting and then wishes to come back to Nigeria but it is too late because he has resign from his or her job and have to start all over again.
With regards to pension schemes in Nigeria, you obviously don't know anything about it, how is it skewed in favour of the government, how?
The laws says, all employers must deduct some percentage from their employee salaries and remit to the employee PFA of their choice, then how is it in favour of the government, PFA are private firms not government entities.
Your pension isn't meant for business in your youthful days, it is meant for your retirement and you can actually withdraw some percentage of it if you lose your job.
In Nigeria, the law says a worker can access 25 per cent of the savings in his RSA, if he loses his job and does not get another after four months.
Health insurance are cheap in Nigeria, in the US, medical care is expensive, in Europe it is free but the waiting period is hell, in Nigeria, accessing healthcare is cheap and fast. During covid, lot of Nigerians abroad came back home for treatment, not only covid, many Nigerian living abroad do come back home to receive medical care, ivf is booming in Nigeria because it is expensive abroad.
On the issue of menial workers, the work rate are low and many menial workers can't afford a better life like their counterpart in Nigeria. Many menial workers living abroad have to work over time to make something tangible, also their salaries can't subtain them if they have a partner that is why they need their spouse to work and share the bills which most times bring conflict.
In the western world, if a man salary is enough to take care of the family, in many cases you don't see the wife working, she becomes a full time house wife, many Nigerians living abroad don't fall under that category, only a few do, infact for menial job workers abroad, it is hard. That is why they need a 2 income home.
In Nigeria, it is possible, a man can take care of his family with his income and the wife don't need to work.
And once again, I am not discouraging anyone from going abroad. I have no time to further waste with you on this topic. My position about NHF and pension is too complicated for you to understand and I get it. There is no point informing you any further. But note that life is influenced strongly by the value we add to life and wealth we are able to create for ourselves and the society. The opportunities to create wealth for ourselves are abound and readily available for smart and or hard workers in Europe, USA, Canada, Australia etc than in Nigeria where there is no equal opportunity and the politicians, elites and wealthy prefer to improve their wealth and power at the expense of the average and poor. Less I forget, the average income earning family or persons in Nigeria are gone with the 1990s. It is either you are rich or poor now in Nigeria. |

FreeStuffsNG: He trusted him to do the job. This is one of the downside reported about President Buhari. When he gives you job, he trusts you to do the job. He respects you so much that he will never intervene personally in your job. I am sure there's a reason why he withheld his approval from Emefiele, he must have gotten this security report but firing Emefiele at that time was not a good optics to his govt, Nigeria and an economy just getting out of Covid-19.
If you read the Obazee report very well you will see that some of those information used to indict Emefiele would have been obtained with the cooperation and assistance of President Buhari, he is a very upright and incorruptible Patriot. Even when Emefiele was in diapers, Gen. Buhari had built that reputation as an incorruptible Nigerian.
I expect the government to quickly get to work by setting up a body to implement the recommendations.
Mr Emefiele must face the justice system and those 2 banks and the funds ferried outside CBN without statutorily required approvals must be recovered from the indicted PDP-appointed CBN Governor PMB inherited and entrusted with the CBN. May God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs! Did you say this: "President Buhari, he is a very upright and incorruptible Patriot"? Do you understand the grammar - upright and incorruptible? You are joking right. Buhari M. is a very corrupt man. He is extremely deceptive with his corruption. For you to come out here to defend him; that is ridiculous and tells a lot about your own character too. Define a patriot for us? Who are the patriots in Nigeria? |

motymop: You are the one trying to fool everyone.
Government workers and many workers in private organizations all have pension schemes, mortgage and car loans and health insurance with an approved Nhs service providers.
Infact some organizations and government institutions still provide nhs services to their retirees.
You just wrote that abroad, you dont need to work in good places and you are made for life, that is not true. You have to work in a good private firm in the western world to get a good pension.
State pension in the uk is 134 pounds per week, so how is this person going to have a better life in nigeria after retirement.
Retirees in the white collar jobs in the US, when they return to Nigeria can have a better life in Nigeria, those from europe are worst off in Nigeria, that is fact. Most blacks in Europe are working menial jobs and earnig maybe 800 euros per month. I know someone who sent 50 euros as contribution for his mother burial and you are here painting europe as heaven on earth. If this is true then explain why the workers are still quiting their jobs and leaving the country for better life, - "Government workers and many workers in private organizations all have pension schemes, mortgage and car loans and health insurance with an approved Nhs service providers". I have seen several managers of banks quit their jobs to Japa. I have seen oil company staff quit their jobs and japa. Car loan is still payable from your salary, in Nigeria and abroad. Health Insurance is standard practice in many countries, especially in the advanced countries (where your fellow Nigerians dey japa to reside and work) provided you have work permit in that country. Pension Schemes in Nigeria is a topic for another day. I strongly feel it is skewed in favor of government, pension fund administrators, owners of the PFAs and banks. How do you explain someone having a lot of money in pension account that he can't access in his youthful days to do business or investment considering the time value of money but can only access it after 55 years of age upon retirement. Even if the person is out of job for long(minimum of 6 months), he or she can only collect 25% of his accumulated savings once in the period before he or she becomes 55 years. Leaving government and PFA owners a pool of funds to touch anytime they wish with some justification that they are paying a cheap and ridiculous interest to the employee on the fund. Come-on. Do you wanna compare health insurance in Nigeria with health insurance in USA, Europe and Canada, for instance, don't just go there. About the earnings of Nigerians in brown collar jobs in Europe, you can't compare it with earnings in Nigeria. You should check the hour rate for employment in European countries to understand the potentials in working in the Europe, USA, Canada, Australia etc. I don't care what you think about those working and hoping to Japa. They have so many reasons to Japa; those reasons are results of the Nigerian government poor policies, management, selfishness, carelessness and failure. Guess what? The Nigerian government is perpetually in the business of failing, frustrating, punishing, eroding the value of life of the masses. I will no longer respond to you because you have a choice to stay back in Nigeria and live that life you so desire to live. Just don't discourage people that really want to Japa with your deceptive concept designed to keep them impoverished and unwealthy. They also have a choice to improve the standard of their lives and be equal or better than you and lots keeping this Nigeria down. |

The discussion was about the individual.
The individual can have economic power if he or she improves on himself.
When you improve on yourself, you get promotion and salaries to have a better life, that is how it works all over the world
Your last statement is a big lie. Most Nigerians that work in a good place all retired well. There are pension schemes for them.
Also when they were working, they had access to mortgages and car loans which made them live the type of lifestyle they want, many are also covered by health insurance for themselves and their family.. so stop writing about something you don't know of, Nigeria is not a perfect place but it works Nigeria is not working for majority. How many Nigerians have that opportunity that you described in bold alphabets? Which ones are the good places; give examples? A menial worker in Europe can hardly do it when you consider tax and living expenses.
even the girls doing prostitution in europe, do you know how many year it takes them to complete their houses in Nigeria, at the end of the day, they live a normal life when they come home. Economic power is the ability of countries, businesses, or individuals to improve their standard of living - simply putting it. It doesn't necessarily mean I have to improve my standard of living in my country. Maybe you should have some Nigerians in the advanced countries doing brown collar jobs honestly do the maths for you. They can tell you that it is not easy over there however, life is easier, valuable and improving at faster rate than in Nigeria. There is nothing greater about remuneration than to see the money you work hard to get translate to improved living standards for anyone. motymop: Work permit is not the reason, the reason is lack of skills and certificate and academic excellences to work in white collar jobs
there are many Nigerians abroad with work permit but they still do menial jobs because they dont have the certificate and skills.
They only get them when they start going back to school but sometimes, it becomes late for them because employers need young people for some certain roles. Oga, you can have work permit abroad and still have a Nigerian passport. It means you are not a citizen of that country. You have a first degree and perhaps a masters degree from Nigerian school and you expect them to employ you ahead of a citizen or person trained in their country? Certification can be earned while there in the advanced country, skills are acquired through training and on the job. If you don't give them the job, how will they acquire the skills and training. I agree with you on this "They only get them when they start going back to school but sometimes, it becomes late for them because employers need young people for some certain roles" However in the light of our shared sentiments above, should such Nigerians be waiting for that white or blue collar job or simply do brown collar job that is available with the plan to save as much as possible and return to Nigeria after some years at such job. |

motymop: There is no dignity in menial jobs everywhere in the world
Nobody will respect a door man or a garbage man, uber driver, window cleaner or security man anywhere in the world, most menial jobs are for people with no certificate and it is not a job of pride
There is a reason why jobs like pilot, engineer, lawyers and many other white collar jobs are respected and paid well abroad because you need your certificate, skills and experience to be in those profession.
The reason why majority of immigrants do menial jobs abroad is because they have no skills, experience or don't have the right certificate which makes them unemployable for white collar jobs That is not the major reason. The majority of the migrants don't have work permit for such white and blue collar jobs. Such countries will definitely prioritize white collar jobs for their citizens or migrants that are exceptional and schooled in their country or advanced countries. There is no dignity in menial jobs but you are not in USA, Canada or advanced countries to demand respect. I don't need the respect, what I need is the dollar or pound - just pay me for the hours of work I have given abroad. I have over 50m in real estate and I intend to sell 50% of my properties to raise funds for an online marketplace i intend to launch in Nigeria but I’m having a double mind as there’s no 100% guarantee that the business will succeed… Since I just graduated from the university, should I rather use 25m to relocate abroad and further my studies or stay in Nigeria and invest the 25m ? I don’t want to regret selling my properties to relocate abroad for studies.. I don’t even know if 25m would be enough to further my studies in any first world countries since I’ll have no support from family.
So my people, should I japa for studies with 25m or stay an invest in my fatherland?
For those wondering how I made over 50m as a fresh graduate. I didn’t make the money in 1 day or 1 month. I do land banking, crypto trading and farming. Sell the 50% of your property as planned and Japa. You are still young and unmarried, you have the ability and youthfulness to do jobs abroad. Besides, online marketplace in Nigeria from now till the next 10 years is something you will regret. Profitability of such business in Nigeria is a big risk, over 70% risk. WithX: Kano Shoprite branch got it wrong when they start selling their goods above market price (that is a red flag). No matter how posh your shop is many rational buyer talk more of the north will prefer buying where the good i even one naira less. With many supermarkets springing up everywhere in Kano now, its fight of the survivals Some two years back the place is always overcrowded because customers get some of their goods cheaper than the market price (surprisingly, the difference in price may just be fie naira or a little below that). I remembered taking the trouble to go to the store anytime i want to stock up on drinks because then their drinks are always around ten naira to fie naira lesser than the market price. Then you will see drink retailers storm there with pickups on daily basis. I can no longer take that trouble if i can get the drinks at a price cheaper close to me.
I believe their change in business strategy have a large part to play. When the pioneer investors of Shoprite left Nigeria and sold/transferred it to another investor. Shoprite started offering even more ridiculous prices for majority of their goods. Just a few (soft drinks and bottle water) that are still priced below general market prices. We also see that at their outlets in Abuja and Lagos. Infact they should change their slogan (Why Pay More) to something else. I strongly don't think the exit of shoprite from Kano implies that the Economy of Kano is terrible. I would rather buy several items from the aboki shop near my house rather than shoprite because the aboki sells at cheaper prices. |
