Lets put it this way when one is unaware of reasons / requirements / compulsions / considerations behind an acquisition its best to go with the end user / govt decision. They must have their reasons & their neck

Mi-17 is good for both transport cum attack but it is not a dedicated attack helicopter which i believe NA / govt wants to buy

US FMS deals are usually packaged deals which makes things easier for the end user at the end of the day

But US is also a bitch , making a deal with them is like making a deal with the devil , unless you got some kind of leverage on them , you are at their mercy more or less

Maybe CAATSA was factor in the choice, who knows , i am only speculating

Anyways i would suggest you to be realistic , if you have the paygrade and can change the decision then be game otherwise you just wasting your time by outraging isn't it ?

Yes we need more helicopters but it will amount to nothing if we don't have strong presence on the ground. The bastards will just disperse each time there is a air attack and come back together again, and within a short period they will find ways to avoid such.


NATO with all its air components didn't liberate half of Afghanistan from talibans, the Syrian and Russian alliance had very strong ground components to move in for clearance after each air strikes.

I am not against the army going for helos but this deal is way too expensive and out of priority for the Nigerian army.
If it were to be the airforce, that would be another thing entirely.

What's even the unit cost of the AH-1 cobra that the deal is worth over $800 million, please let's discuss it so we can find out the numerous stuffs wrong with this deal....

The unit cost of the Hydra 70 rockets that goes with the APKWS is $2800

If they are buying 2000 APKWS and 10000 Hydra 70 rockets, that's just $100,000000

Thank God the deal was blocked. Why would the army be spending $800 million on helicopters when they have huge defect of tanks, artilleries, and other ground systems. Common protected troops carrying vehicles they don't have they are now going to buy 12 outdated AH-1 helicopters. I guess it's the APKWS that is carrying the bulk of the cost but it is still misplaced priority. The implication of this is that the army is basically trying to use almost all the cash they are getting from the supplementary budget to get the helicopters.
AH-1 is old for God's sake. They don't even know when they would be getting another allocation of this magnitude and they want to waste the opportunity to get hundreds of IFVs, tanks, artilleries and MRAPs. Fvcking morons

Little wonder the airforce gets the majority of any funding for capital projects, they need it. I'm now more convinced that the airforce will be going for the M346 aircrafts. The alpha jets are past their time and it isn't surprising to the military heirachy that they are starting to crash, the last of the spares we got are now worn out and replacement can't be gotten for most of them.
The airforce will also be paying for the remaining MI-35s and most likely gett to more of it and the MI-171, it won't be surprising if most of the MI-24s are out of operation.
This is a group captain who has just pitched the need to reduce response time to the public nicely, why won't the president be allocating most of the money to the airforce when it is the CAS that is pitching ideas to him.

I wish the military could keep relating with the public this way, they will get the support they need. People will understand why billions should be spent on them.

The VT-4 tank was used in the operation turai taka bango offensive that cleared large swathes of alargano and the Timbuktu triangle early this year. It was very effective and was deployed alongside the ST1 as support platform for the tank, their are even pictures on this thread of the tanks showing scars of battle damages one of the tanks survived.

That doesn't mean the NA isn't incompetent though, you just can't use this against them. Machines fail almost always, especially machines that are aged.

The court block should be sealed off in fact. There is a very high possibility of his foot men attempting a rescue operation. Every vehicle moving within 250m radius of the court should be screened for bombs and other weapons.

This isn't a normal court proceedings as it is tightly related to national security. However, measures should be put in place to allow for the live broadcasting of the event to ensure there won't be any claims of secrecy and conniving.

It is time NAF look into the theory of sabotage. All the aircraft technicians and people who work close to the aircraft hangars need to be properly profiled.

I strongly suspect the airfoce has been infiltrated. Loosing 4 aircrafts within 7 months cannot be a coincidence.

The alpha jets have been the only jets providing CAS and air interdiction since the F7-NIs were shipped out for maintenance with few help from the L-39s and we keep hearing about airstrikes multiple times within a week in different parts of the country for over a year now. Even if it is a car you've been using at that rate, it would have developed faults.

I'm not ruling out sabotage but it's time we let the alpha jets rest(as soon as the tucanos and F7-NIs land) and maybe they should start lobbying for the money that will be used to purchase the M346 they were considering.
