Hello my people!!! Happy new year!!! Some of you may remember me, but many probably won't grin grin grin grin
Well, I just moved to Berlin so if you're already in Berlin and would fancy a few beers, kindly hit me up. You can mention me here or send a Private message... wink wink
As a result of this, I may no longer be able to physically help anyone heading to Kiel anymore, but I could still try what I can do :-)

And yes, I also speak German cool cool cool

Only DB is authorized to open block account for incoming students.
@Pearl93 irrespective of the account you have with commerz bank, you must open a DB block account as a student.
@Williamso It's just the way Germans do their thing and i guess for documentation purpose, imagine different block account papers, more work and visa processing time.
Well, I don't know about that; Germany is already too bureaucratic, and considering that the banking options on a national level are already limited (Deutsche Bank, Postbank, HypoVereinsbank, Commerzbank and Dresdner Bank), I honestly don't know why we're all compelled to use DB...
TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 3 by Williamso(m):
Pearl93:
No. You don't understand me. A pounds account is different from an Euro account. I have an Euro account with commerze bank which operates in Germany.

And the reason why I asked is because In past threads, the DB denied a few people and they were asked to open another account.

So therefore, it means DB is only the recommended but not the compulsory account.

I don't mind opening the DB. I just want to be sure I won't have problems later. E.g questions like 'since you already have an account with commerze bank, why open with DB?'
Hello!
I really don't know why the consulate is forcing us to use DB (maybe they get a cut, who knows). You should write an email to them, as well as Commerzbank if your account can be used for that purpose, or if it can be done with a new account, or if it must be DB.

As for Marburg vs Kiel; I don't know anything about Marburg, but Kiel is a nice small place. If you followed the thread (at least from the latter half of part 2) you'd know that Kiel has a relatively large community here smiley

Gudevening honorable house,
i really want to know, without the embassy not receiving the deutsche bank blocked acct funding notification.will your application not processed?because i heard some pple saying that without acct funding notification your application will not be send to germany for approval.
Guy na waa oh! Exactly a week ago, I answered this your question. I wonder what kind of answer you want to see. I even told you I'm an example of this scenario! Send the confirmation to the consulate and you may get your a.m. mail within 24 hours if the Ausländerbehörde of your intended city has already accepted you, or keep waiting for DB to send it for you and get a rejection when your enrollment deadline elapses. The choice is yours.

I really want to start my Germany Admission process... Can you be of help?

How much is needed in the block account, I heard that is the main perquisite.
That's the most important factor, but not the main prerequisite. The main prerequisite is the admission itself. Get info about that on daad.de
As for the blocked account, roughly 8.700€, at any exchange rate you can get.

Good afternoon house!
For those who had their interview and did not receive the "Go and fund" email, as long as the average time for rejection has passed (about a week), you have a very high chance of success. So stop worrying and fund the account. I'm an example of someone who didn't get the go and fund email...

Actually it's not. It's very normal as far as Germany is concerned. If there's something I've learned is that many things are treated on a case-by-case basis. Before you send any mail to withdraw your application, send them an email telling them that you've won a scholarship and you need your originals to access the funds which will be used to fund (even beyond the limit) the blocked account. Also attach proof such as emails, letters, etc to this effect. Only if this is refused should you ask for a withdrawal, not at first.
And no. They can start, and even finish the processing but they wouldn't mail you until it's ready - this was my case; got the a.m. mail the day after (or was it same day?) I sent the blocking confirmation.
Congratulations on your scholarship, and I hope it all turns out well...
Thanks Justwise, my very oga

I honestly don't know. I think you should go with what you sent to the schools. Personally, I used my NECO for everything because there was a mistake on my WAEC and I didn't feel like swearing any affidavit.

Greetings everyone,
Please am interested in studying computer science (Undergraduate) in Germany. Have gone through the thread, and I must confess u guys are doing a great job, have gotten the skeletal structure of the whole procedure. Thanks

I have OND in computer science and have tried searching for schools, got a university in Ulm offering computer science and another university in Hamburg.

Have contacted the one in Ulm on Phone and was told they admit only for winter semester and application is currently closed.

My dilemma now is; the university in Ulm wants my documents assessed by studienkolleg, but the one in Hamburg uses Unii-assist, please I need more schools under studienkolleg or uniassist offering computer science at undergraduate level, I intend applying to as many schools as possible.

Thanks a lot
Please do not confuse yourself/us/yourself+us! Studienkolleg and Uni-assist are not similar at all!!! Studienkolleg does not assess documents. Ulm probably told you that your OND does not qualify you for a BSc, and that you have to go through Studienkolleg (don't ask me, google it), and frankly, Uni-assist will tell you same. OND does not qualify you for a BSc in Germany, except through Studienkolleg.

In other words, it is foolhardy to Base your admission quest on school rankings because as far as German public universities are concerned, they are all of high standard. I posted something once where a school was ranked as a "top school" because of the PhD programs but had not-too-impressive Master programs. These rankings are, for most of the time, meaningless.
Also I have not heard of anyone being denied a job offer based on the person's Alma mater; all other things being equal.

Last bullet: Follow curricula, not rankings...

I'm actually referring to the engineering schools tho. The TU9s and other good Universities.

Feel free to enlighten me on the quality other schools in germany also possess. I've leanrt that it is easier to get admitted into the "not too popular" Institutions compared to the popular ones. I would like to know if the difference in the quality ain't that much. I look forward to getting a MSc in communication engineering or Digital Humanities tho.
I will not do that! Feel free to apply to only the 9 schools. Seems you're more after a school's reputation than the curriculum it has to offer. Good luck in your admissions.

And yes! The difference in quality is much. Schools outside the TU9 are more or less glorified secondary schools. I would reckon you go to AUN or Covenant, or even North American University than go to any school outside TU9.

Guten Tag Leute! E don tey I dey here oh. Skimmed through the comments of the past 100 pages... Can't read all tongue tongue
Wishing everyone coming here success, and everyone in General a wonderful summer cool cool

And a common theme I noticed while reading is people have extraordinarily high expectations of Germany before coming. Please tone this down to avoid life-threatening depression. It's easy to ignore a certain Schwartz's comments as being overtly pessimistic, but that should be an indication that it's not rosy for everyone everywhere, and we shouldn't be too quick to dismiss the posts. We Nigerians generally like optimism - it's very common to come across statements like "if you don't have anything nice to say, then shut up" - and that is why some would believe they will start sending German machines a few weeks after coming here; and would even see reality as pessimism (believe it or not, I've met people who think like that).

My advice and my philosophy is simple: I'd rather have extremely low expectations and watch things unravel beyond my subdued expectations, hence creating a positive Stimmung than have really high expectations and slide into depression when these expectations are not met.

Hmmm. This is a very legitimate question, and one I haven't thought about at all. I don't know about the Abuja certifications where you also have to send it yourself, but I'll guess the consulate has a "special arrangement" with DB and that's why they send it for you. I will suggest writing the consulate on the possibility of other banks as well as writing "Commerzbank" and "Postbank" (Alongside DB, these are the 3 national banks I know). Would have asked any branch here for you but I don't have the time this period; that's something I will put in my reminder though.

You misunderstood me. Take your time to read what i wrote. I personally do not know about people who have gotten permanent jobs after graduation. I heard of one person. I asked this guy so I can also learn and know what to do because I also wish to be employed after graduation. I even seek his advice on moving from engineering to logistics. Because Logistics is a big industry in Germany. He gave his opinion and also asked me to seek advice from my professors, which I told people to also do.
I don't think I misunderstood you. I got your points clearly, life here is hard; in fact without German, it is even worse. But asking someone that kind of question will only stimulate negative answers. Personally, I even get PMs from people asking me about "making it big" and I can't help but breaking their hearts. Your question could have been a lot more objective!

Yes graduates get 2500€ but do u know how much will be left for to spend at d end of the month out of that amount u mentioned? After all the taxes av bin removed, u will get around 1600€ in ur acct then from that 1600 u begin to pay monthly bills that most not default. Imagine u pay 700€ for 2 bedroom flat out of it then pay 150 for utilities and internet, plz how much is left for u to feed and flex? Before u can save to buy that SUV u want to sell.

Well I'm not discouraging anyone. Its a risk worth taking if u believe in your dream. Its even better to finish d MSC and come back to naija with it for a better paying job. Just telling that don't expect 2500€ monthly like u read on websites. Owo Germany , Germany loun GBE in lagbaja's voice.
How would you earn 2.500 before tax, be single and live in a 2 bedroom flat? That is simply silly. Only my German friends here living with their girlfriends with a combined income of over 5000 after tax do that. I really don't know anyone here, German, Nigerian or any other that would do that undecided

Schwartz:
Let me post the last conversation but he will reply some post I quoted later when he is free:
[20/06 07:36] Me: Let me post somethings they said each then you advice accordingly
[20/06 07:37] Me: They are coming under the student visa. But their main aim is to make it big. Big money, big cars, big everything
[20/06 07:46] Dennis: That's what some of the refugees expected to find here. Now they are burning their own places because it's too bad to live there. There is no big money for average people. The middle class has enough for living but not for more
Come on! Asking this kind of question has already inferred bias on your friend's part, which will only get negative answers. I personally came to study and I did not work throughout my first semester; concentrated on learning German and studies, and I can say that I completed 37.5 credits with good grades last semester as well as a reasonable level of German now (I start B1 next week). So please, in as much as there are exceptions, many people do not come here to "make it big", at least not while they/we are still students...
And how will a graduate of history (or was it philosophy) know details of other sectors (z.B., the IT sector)? I have a very good friend, also a Nigerian, who finished from my program and got a job less than 3 months later, with no knowledge of German (I still yab him till tomorrow how he lived in Germany for 3 years without learning the language) in Kiel, a relatively hard-life-without-German city. Was sagst du dazu?
