My people in the house, I greet oh! E don tay shaa. Seeing the recent pages bring shock and disbelief to me. Studying in Germany is not easy. I will always say this. If your primary aim is to study, and secondary to make money (at least while you're still a student), then by all means come, but if the reverse is the case, then........
As for what my ogas (pompido, Nevilbot, Schwartz) have said, they have their merits and demerits. I also live in Kiel, as well as Pompi, and I can confirm some of the things he said (we more or less work together ) but do not mistake it for an excessive cashflow! During school period it is difficult to make above 500 (after tax) monthly and successfully face your classes (though making around that is very feasible, especially in the summer months). During the holidays, things are very different.
If you do not believe in dignity in labour, and have a hard time taking care of pets, or cleaning and you believe you should be entitled to the same "class of job" as you did in Nigeria, EVEN AS A STUDENT, then Germany is no place for you! Do not come here

To this end, I have always not been in support of taking loans to come here, or selling property (I think a loan is slightly worse though). Not because you won't payback (there's no guarantee that you will in the short term), but because the pressure of even thinking about it all will depress you so bad it will affect other parts of your life here.

It should do. I used my statement of result and all the schools I applied to accepted it. There was one school though (I didn't apply there) that said they only accept statements that are less than 5 years old

The deadline is actually from CAU on daad site; states students should apply latest the stipulated date or it becomes harder to get accommodation.

I still don't get. There is no on/off campus here as schools don't provide hostels. That is provided by Studentenwerk and they are not "on campus". The other option would be private, which could be advantageous or disadvantageous.
What deadline do you mean? Application deadline? Enrollment deadline? Payment deadline? Please be more succinct. If it's application deadline, then why are you worrying about accommodation when you have not even (or only just) applied?
And what stated amount are you talking about?

Es kommt darauf an. If you're looking to buy new gadgets, they're cheaper in Nigeria, especially as you will almost inevitably convert every euro you spend to naira initially (doing this for too long will give you a psychological breakdown )...

However, used gadgets are cheaper and (depending on where you look) cleaner here than naija.

I think I should post this (hopefully no error of judgement).
Recently there has been a lot of talk about English proficiency and all. Personally, I didn't write any exam as I saw it as an insult to be subjected to the same language test as people who've learned English for only a year or more (a part of me still tries to justify that while another part thinks that was very myopic of me). This greatly limited the number of schools I could apply to, and while I did get accepted in a few schools, I got rejected by a lot, with one explicitly rejecting me for a lack of "exam based English proficiency certificate" (the old ones here and the ones who have read the thread might remember that minidebacle from part 2 ).

I was quite lucky I was going for a Masters program that's IT related hence I had many options and I started the process quite early before many schools deadlines had elapsed. For people aspiring to other programs, you may not be that lucky, especially the BSc hopefuls. And even most of the top schools explicitly require it (z.B. RWTHA).

My advice would be to not be as myopic as I was and write these exams; it broadens your chances and gives you an edge over people with "letter". And if you think it's expensive, what do you have to lose? You're going to spend over 2mil on blocked account, a fraction of that is not a bad idea, or is it?

And for those that would decide not to for one reason or the other, don't come here begging people to do research for you: it's simultaneously irritating and annoying, and gives the impression of laziness and/or lack of online-resource-finding skills, the latter which is very important during the course of your studies.

No multiple offerings: the offering basket is usually close to the exit door. In the three churches in three different cities I attendend I have never heard a call for offering. At the end of the service as you exit you may choose to drop an offering, any amount of your choice.

No special seat for anyone: No special seat or special recognition for any titled person or senior politician etc. Nobody cares if you got money or not. No one is treated differently by the pastor or any member. Persons called to take the mic few times are people who are involved in missionary works. To intimate the congregation on efforts so far. Some people here just live to do missionary work alone. Its amazing.

Every one is friendly: Its kind of intimidating being the only black around. The members want to know your name, what you do, where you are from and what's happening with you. Everyone introduces themselves with a smile and a handshake. They make you feel at home, like a brother. I remember when we were told to wait for Mexican food because the Mexicans in the church were celebrating their anniversary. After taking food, I sat at a corner to eat. Lo and behold everyone was calling me to come seat with them and eat. It felt nice

My experience here as well. Humility is the watch word. Giving a different perspective about organized religion.

To be honest (and risk sounding like a pessimistic smug), your (friend's) chances of being admitted are very very slim, if at all. Good GRE/IELTS scores, work experience, extra courses (e.g Coursera), and a school without NC could be of great help. Nevertheless, before sending out any application, I would suggest you send a sort of "preliminary application" (to wet ground), where you send a mini-motivation letter stating your CGPA and other info and ask what your chances are. Not all schools reply this favourably, if at all, but some do.

Haha. I misunderstood your post then. Well, the time you choose to apply shouldn't depend on when you want to; if you should wait for other semester applications or not, but should depend on the application period of the school. Some schools have really early application deadlines, z.B. the deadline for application into the ITIS program in Hannover for Winter 2017/2018 semester is 15th January, 2017, and for DAAD scholars, it is 1st October this year. So find out the application periods of your prospective schools and stick to them.

To get substitute for Ugu leaf, go to Aldi, Netto and co get You can buy Blatt spinat 1.50€
For poundo you can either buy a tuber of Yam for 7€ or you buy the powdered one. To pound you can boil your yam soft and use a blender. It comes out likes its mortar you used.
If you can't cook, split the ingredients into 2 first. Make your money no waste o. You tube will guide you perfectly. I recommend this woman:

Like the name implies, it's about IT, with a lot of focus on "Information" you'll learn stuff about togaf, business processes, etc, although all that would depend on your major. The module list is on the website, you can learn more from there. And learn to program if you don't already. C/C++ or Java would be helpful but also learn JavaScript as there's no escaping it; it's a compulsory module.
Kiel is a small city in the north, ungefähr 120,000 people and about an hour from Hamburg. Don't know what to say that hasn't already been said so you should ask specific questions...

IMO, I don't think your HND has anything to do with anything... You're an EU citizen, so you have certain "privileges" others don't. Nevertheless, you will get jobs as I hear the south has more to offer than the north.
I still believe your ability to speak German will be of essence (especially as I would presume you'll be applying for a Bachelor program...)

First things first, Studium is important, and not quite easy! There are always presentations to do, articles to write, empirical studies to conduct, etc, and as a Master Student, it's expected that you already know quite a lot (screw BSc from Naija for putting me in this position ) so it's important that you study a lot. Some people can take more than 30 credits in a semester, some can't take more than 20. You must not finish your program in 4 (or 3) semesters; and this also applies to Bachelor students.

Secondly, language. To me, this is almost as important as the studium itself for various reasons: You're in a German speaking country, so don't expect people to pity you and speak English with you. It's their prerogative to use the language(s) they feel comfortable with so you must accept this and step up. Also, you go to your school's library for a research and you need a reference; out of 10 books on a topic, 8 are in German. Also for a successful studium, internship is necessary and when you're competing with Germans, what better way to get an edge than to have "Deutschkenntnisse"? Even for the programmers where the Language is not as important as the arts, imagine working with the German version of eclipse, of even the entire Microsoft office suite in German. Need I say more?
Learn the language from Nigeria if you can, and if you can't, make a conscious effort to learn it when you get here; I didn't know "Guten Tag" as at September last year

Thirdly, Arbeit. I know many people will read only this paragraph Anyway, as money is important, this must also be important. But balancing working and studying isn't easy but under strict discipline, it is doable. And yes, there are jobs; I know people here that make more than 1.500 after tax per month with little or no German knowledge (I will not talk on this as the people are taking a gap semester, or not focused on school at all). Nevertheless, German knowledge is important to get jobs: My pidgin Deutsch helped me get my job

Fourthly, Fest. Haven't seen any real "Fest" yet. Ich freue mich auf die Kielerwoche im Juni ...

Fifthly, Freund machen, Spaß and Frauen. My opinion is that a lot of Germans are very reserved when they're not drunk. Many things could happen when they are, or if you can string some sentences in German or both
Also, the weather now is really great. Great time to go to the beach or wind surfing or spazieren... many things to do, can't list them all.

Sixthly, Essen. I miss pounded yam and egusi soup I have had enough potatoes to last a lifetime, And I'm sure I'll be having a lot more over time. Abeg who dey enter Kiel anytime soon, I get list of things wey you go help me bring

Finally, my advice to anyone coming here: LEARN DEUTSCH!!! It's even more important than learning a programming language (and this is coming from someone with a programming/IT background). Integrate properly; don't get angry/upset/confused when things don't happen the way you're used to (*cough* dress codes *cough*), and your stay could be more enjoyable than you anticipated...

Last bullet, if there's anything you were expecting to see that I didn't cover, let me know...
