So see what is happening to others, Fanikayode is spending xmas in Jail, El-rufai is a fugitive, Bayo Ojo has disappeared. Iwu is keeping his Job because he is responsible for Yar adua being president, he is amply aware of the new order.

You people should remember that Soludo almost entered trouble when he felt he does not need to be loyal to Yaradua, but he quickly recognized the new order and went to aso rock to beg Yaradua.

My take is if Ribadu did not dabble into politics and faced his Job of fighting corruption, he would have been safe.

I fully support Gani for for rejecting the national honour, although i do not share his view with regards to Ribadu. Ribadu involved himself in high wire politics, something akin to a civilian coup. (remember third term project and disqualification of OBJ's opponents while leaving the most corrupt ones untouched). Since his group lost out, he will definitely reap the punishments. If OBJ had suceeded, he would have been the next in command to OBJ, problably as the most powerful I.G. Nigeria would have ever had.

If you take a look at people holding Nigeria's National honours, they are coup plotting Generals, the most politicians and their civilian collaborators. I do not think Gani would fit the club. Also Imagine giving Bankole CFR and Gani a mere OFR, who had made more contribution to Nigeria?

Yhe problem i have with some theist is that they use scientific terms of which they have no idea of its meaning.
Please Tonye-t, what do you mean by unapproachable light. What is light? is it the minute section of the electromagnetic spectrum which allows us to see, or the whole range from Gamma rays to cosmic rays?. Or you have other religious definition of light?

Also how can you see God in Good light, when he support on group of people to commit genocide against another group. If you are a descendant of the canaanites, Philistines, Ammorites, etc, would you not hate the Jewish God and even war against him and his people. The bold sententence clearly stated that she came back to her father and he fulfilled his vow (which was to sacrifice his daughter to God, and not make her a Virgin), and soon after after her arrival, she died as a virgin. It did not say she died 50 years later in seclusion as a nun as the ladies want you to believe. You you have the facts and the ladies are speculatiing.

Most of what we all know is based on the findings of someone else (proofs) and their documentation of it. If you will read theirs and accept it why not read the writings of the apostles and accept it. Afterall it is a documentation of the events that took place in history.
I do agree with you, but in the context of God, my response again would be the Pope's words. God isn't an inanimate object that can be experimented with. If you are trying to do so, then simply say that you are not trying to find God. Because you aren't. Statues?, personal writings? pictures?, other important personalities from that period have their statues or writings surviving till this day. Caesar, Josephus, Pliny, etc. Jesus did not leave a trace of evidence that he ever existed. The pictures we are fed with were drawn by renaissance artists. Even his people the jews do not accept his existence as portrayed in the Bible. The gospels were written by foreigners (romans), according the the prevailing beliefs about 60 yrs after the supposed death of jesus, for certain unknown rich men and authorities.

Yes the very definition of belief means accepting something without proof. Since you have no idea of science but only know how to enjoy its benefits, i will fill you in. Science starts from observation of phenomena, then accurate recording of the observation, then building of an hypothesis th explain the recorded data. You do not have to be there during the cambian period to know what the cambian period is like. You can study soil samples and fossils within a particular soil or rock stata to have an idea of the period named cambian period.

As i have always tried to explain on this forum, OUR  BELIEFS  IS A PRISON FOR OUR MINDS AND EVEN OUR BODIES, once inside this prison, escape is virtually impossible.

A person who beliefs in virgin mary long and strong enough will see virgin mary as imagined by him or her.

A person who beliefs strong enough in Jesus, will see jesus, blood, wounds and all, as imagined by him or her, they might even hear his voice with messages of what we want to hear.

Same goes for the moslems, hindus, buddhist, sango worshipers, etc, that is why people had adhered to these religions for thousands of years. They see what they want to see and hear.

Same goes for demons, witches, jinns, etc, if you believe and fear a demon stong enough, it will actually start affecting you.

The saddest one to me is the pentecostal pastors, they get the vulnerable followers to believe in them so much, that they (the followers) are totally helpless, physically, mentally and spiritually without these pastors. I use to have a girlfriend that was a "Lord's Chosen" and she used to have all sorts of "spiritual attacks" (headaches, stomach pains, etc) and her instant cure was the Hankerchief from the church that has been blessed by the general overseer. (the hanky cost 150 each and it is the plain white hanky we buy in go-slow for 40 naira). As soon as she put the hanky in the pain area, she gets cured instantly and miraculously.
When i attended church with her, immidiately the" fire prayer starts", should would be rolling all over the floor. I have always wondered the purpose of all these.
Anyway, it took me over two years before i was able to break her dependence on the pastor. I did it by explanation and education. She even stopped attending church altogether, but she stopped having the spiritual attacks. Sorry for the digression folks.

I have been an atheist for about 30 yrs and i have never had any spiritual attack, save the problem of trying to get up after sleeping (which some call incubus) during my teens, which a lot of people term spiritual attack, but i later learn that it happens to most teens and youths. It was a big problem to me then, but me being a practical person, learnt to undersand it and even induce and control it.

So my conclusion is you see what you want to see

Please what Ignorance are you talking about, is it the ignorance that plunged Europe into the dark ages or the Ignorance and prosperity you are enjoying today as a result of science.

I honestly do not think that the reason we have high divorce rate is due to differences in beliefs. Marriages of people from the same faith and church fail as much (if not more) than people from different faiths or belief systems.

I am an atheist and my wife is a born again (redeem), and we have have three wonderful years of marriage with no problems what so ever. In the beginning here church could not understand why her husband do not follow her to church and she tries to explain my position. One day the head pastor came to my house to talk to me and i explain to him that the way i am made up do not allow me to accept things on faith, we had a long chat and in the end he understood that we cannot all see things the same way, and he has left me alone since. Even the assistant pastor has come to talk to me and we agreed to disagree.

I just had my first child and the pastor is coming to perform the naming.

So i do not see why people with different faiths cannot have a successful marriage if there is love, fidelity and mutual respect.

I can say so far that there is a lot of discrepancies surrounding these books, I am surprised at the number of things I have just learned about the Gospels, their authors are actually unknown and there was a lot of copying going on among them, they were all written for different audiences, I think this has to go to the blaspheming thread.

Personally so far I think that at a point in time there was a man called Jesus who might have been a genius, the gospel of John surely is a very different version from the other 4, John tends to see Jesus in a different light, but lets deal with the historical Jesus. A few interesting points

Chrisbenogor, I have done an extensive research on the historocal aspect of Jesus christ and i have come up with a lot of conclusions. Unfortunately i do not have the time at the momment to go into detail, but i will summerise some of my findings;

I. doubt that the personality called Jesus Christ was christened that name by his parents. Jesus christ was a title (an appelation) in latin which is Jesus( which can mean the same thing as Joshua or Jeshua) and Christos (similarly referred to as XP). So what is his real name?

2. I believe jesus christ never said those things ascribed to him in the gospels, because he was unable to have any dialogue with any body. When he talks he always talk as if he his always talking generally amd not to a specific person.

3. The gospels avoid saying he is dead, they say it is finished, he gave up the ghost (what ghost) but avoid saying categorically that he is dead.

4. When he is said to ressurect, it was as a physical person and not a spirit person as assumed by most christian, he was touched by thomas, his wounds were not healed yet, he ate with his followers, he performed more miracles and he was carried up to heaven without dying.

5. to find out which organisation the personality of jesus christ belongs read more about the Essenes and Nazarenes.

The evolution of skin pigmentation is linked to hairlesness. After losing their hair as an adaptation for keeping cool in the tropics, early hominids gained pigmented skins. The pigmentation was to serve two purposes
1. To protect the exposed skin against cancer causing ultaviolet radiation
2. To protect against the breakdown of folate, a nutrient essential for fertility and for fetal development.

Skin that is too dark blocks sunlight necessary for catalysing the production of vitamin D. Accordingly humans have evolved to be light enough to make sufficient vitamin D and yet dark enough to protect their stores of folate.

I started this thread by throwing out a challenge to those who call themselves evolutionists and atheists regarding their theory of evolution, for them to convince us that it is based on a solid foundation and not on shaky grounds. Only wirinet attempted to answer the first question which was "Where did the space come from?" and his response was: "The answer is nobody really knows, and the question is really unknowable" and he went on to explain the big bang that came out of a "singularity"(post #13). He further admitted (in post #45) that they don't know how life started.

I was very suprised when you said that we evolutionists do not know how life started, so i had to go back and read the post #45, and there was no such assertions by me.

I know perfectly how life started on earth, It started from simple inorganic gasses like O2, N2, CO2 and NH3 combining to form the primordial soup, from which aminio acid formed, which went on to form proteins. It life started when a combination of amino acids was able to duplicate it self (the double Helix structure). This is just a simplistic summery. As i proposed earlier, if you pay me I will give you detailed lecture on the whole process.

Although I agree with you in the main, at least one point you've posted has been proven or pretty well accounted for. I've read that astronomers have matched an astronomical alignment of some sort with the supposed year of Jesus' birth for example.

The above statement is a farce, I am very well versed in astronomy, and there is no astonomical alignment as you have stated. Please tell me what kind of astronomical alignment would make a star stand over one house. Even when the brightest objects seen from earth besides the Sun and moon, which is venus is shining, it does not shine on one house or even one country.

There are independenct confirmation of the stories, all you have to do is check with history, and I mean non-christian sources. The Romans documented well the dealings of that time, and so did the Jews, the proof is there, you just have to let go of laziness and get the right sources. You will find it. Believers are not asked to disregard anything, the Holy Book is not the only source, infact the Church is the authority and the Holy Book receives its authority from the Church, as the Holy Book calls the Church the "pillar and foundation of truth" and upon this the Church compiled the book, because of the authority of the Church the book came to be, so sir if you want to challenge the authority of the book, you will have to challenge the authority of the Church. Seeing that the Church is made up of people who are of themselves independent, and that the writings of independent witnesses during the time of Jesus are well kept by the Church, your claim of lack of independent witnesses goes out the window.

Although, i have not done amy research lately, as i do not have time nowadays, I did an awful lot of research in my university days, so i am writing from memory.

But one fact i am very sure of is that there are very few independent collaboration of biblical stories.
The Romans had no official record regarding the activities of Jesus Christ which is odd, as his execution must have been approved from rome. The only other person that mentioned someone close to christ was the Jewish historian Josephus Flavius.

Let me add a bit of what i learnt about buddhism.
The assertions of the poster is totally wrong and i agree with bastage.

It is very misleading to assert that all the statues of Bhuddha is that of the first Bhuddha (Gautama Siddhartha). There were thousands of Buddhas after Gautama. A buddha is simply someone who has attained enlightenment and has broken the death - Birth cycle. So we can have a black, white or molatto Buddha.

I have another version of this healing school.
I have a clse friend who had spent hundreds of thousand of naira on his one ear old daughter who was had kidney problem at the National hospital Abuja.
After months of unending spendings with no improvement at the hospital, he decided to try the healing school of Christ Embassy.
At the healing school after a couple of weeks, the girl was ministered to by Pastor Chris and surprisingly she was healed.

The Virgin birth of Christ, along with the Resurrection form the bedrock, upon which the Christian faith was founded and I want to share some of the research I conducted more than 30 years ago when i was still researching christianity. I will start with the virgin birth of Christ.

The major problem with Christianity and many other religions is the absolute lack of independent confirmation of the stories, if independent accounts exists, believers are asked to disregard any story in conflict with the story presented within the holy book, so the holy book, becomes the source and proof of itself, an authority unto itself.

Now lets go back to the Virgin Birth. First of all I want Christians to understand that virgin birth is not unique and exclusive to Christianity, in fact among ancient religions virgin birth was relatively new to the Christian faith. Among the religions of the orient, virgin birth and spiritual birth of their Guru or Saviour was not only accepted as a possibility but as a fact natural to all Gurus.

It is a fact that divine births were so commonly accepted among ancient people that whenever they hear of one who has greatly distinguish himself, they immediately classify such a person as having been born of a supernatural lineage. The learned Thomas Maurice in his book called Indian Antiquities, goes far as to state that “in every age and in almost every religion of the Asiatic world, there seems uniformly to have flourished an immemorial tradition that one god had from all eternity begotten another god”

Now lets look at other examples of Virgin Births.

India has a number of messengers who were divinely conceived and two of them bore the name “Chrishna” or “Chrishna the Saviour” (note the similarity with Christ). Now Chrishna was born of a chaste virgin called Devaki, Who on account of her purity was selected to become the mother of God.

Buddha was considered and believed by his followers to have been begotten of God and born of a virgin whose name was Maya. Long before the Christian era, we read of how the divine power called the” Holy Ghost” descended upon virgin Maya. In ancient Chinese version of the story, the holy ghost is called Shing-Shin.

The Siamese (Taiwan), had a God and saviour who was Virgin Born whom they called Codom. In this very ancient story, the beautiful Virgin had been informed in advance that she was to become the mother of a great messenger of God, and one day while in her usual period of meditation and prayer, she was impregnated by divine sun beams. When the boy was born, he grew up in a remarkable manner, became a protégé of wisdom and performed miracles.

When the first Jesuit priest visited china, they wrote in their reports at finding a heathen religion of that country, of a story of a redeeming saviour who was born of a Virgin and divinely conceived. The God was said to have been born 3468 B.C (before Christ), his name was Lao-Tsze and was said to have been born of a virgin black in complexion and as beautiful as a Jasper.

In Egypt, long before the Christian era, and before any of its doctrine was conceived, the Egyptian people had several messengers of God, who were conceived through Immaculate Conception. Horus was known to all of ancient Egypt as having been born of the virgin Isis and his conception and birth was considered one of the three great mysteries or mystical doctrines of the Egyptian religion. To then every incident in connection with the conception and birth of Horus was pictured, sculptured, adored and worshiped as the incidents of the conception and birth of Jesus is among the Christians today. Another Egyptian God called Ra was also conceived by a Virgin.

I think I should stop here, because if I decide to go on the examples would be too many. But I want to add that even, Plato who was born in Athens in 429 B.C. was believed by the populace to be a divine son of a pure virgin called Perictione.
It is recorded in the ancient record that the father of Plato who was known as Aris had been admonished in a spiritual dream to hold pure and sacred the person of his wife, until after the divine conception and birth of the child that is to come and that this child would be conceived by divine means.

I was into the UFO thing when i was younger, then it looked scientific and attractive proposition, just like religion. But as i understood science more and more, i then realise the possibility of UFO being next to NIL.

I am not saying that its is not possible for life to evolve else where in the universe and maybe possibly intelligence. The problem lies in the vastness of space. Space is so vast that travelling between two solar systems by any living thing is impossible. The distance to our nearest neighbour - Alpha Centuari, is 4.5 light years. that means if we could build a craft that can travel at the speed of light, which is a scientific impossibility, we would get there in 4.5 yrs baring all the harsh conditions of space. So the possibility of aliens getting here is NIL

Next time there is a fellowship at your house, and there is a clapping and shouting frenzy, take a look at the faces of the participants, take a hard look at their eyes, what do you see?

I will tell you you see hopelesnes, despair, confusion and insecurity. That is the stage at which we live in the third world, forget all the cars packed outside (for onces that can somehow afford them), for get the smilling faces, you will see past all that.

So you see most people need these physchological boosts, it helps us wake up tomorrow and look towards a new day, it offers us hope, any kind of hope.

The Abrahamic God is anything but fair and just. He is very partial, vengeful, erratic and unpridictable. In fact the Abrahamic God is a very Violent God, he has murdered more people or ordered more people to be murdered (including women and children and sometimes animals too) than all the wicked men that have existed put together.  

Almost every chapter of the Bible is full of violence, the first act of Gods violence is driving adam from the garden with flamming swords, because the disobeyed. Not long after that Cain murdered his brother. not long after that Sodom and Gomorrah was raised to the ground, man woman and animals. Then the whole world was wiped out in a flood.

The violence goes on and on in almost every chapter in every book of the Bible. The Ultimate violence is what we are told to expect in Revelation. I will hate my Kids reading the level of violence there. It should be rated 18 to avoid kids reading and digesting it.

I think that is why followers of these three religions are highly violent, because that is the nature of their God, and they are asked to be Godlike

Reverend King is said to be the next Jesus, if he is actually hanged. I can bet that less than 20 yrs after his death, his followers will put together a momoir of his miracles and devineship, and u will have eye withness accounts and how he died to save the world. If the PR. work is handled well, i see him being a messiah in a 100 yrs time.
