If you are posted in the city center for your primary assignment, all well and good. But if they take you to a remote village, you'll not find it funny. When I served (4 yrs ago), there was no problem but now there are crises almost in every part of the state especially in the villages where they resent non-indigenes so much (Its not their fault). So, the safest place for now is to stay within PH city. The creeks and villages are boiling. If you can't guarantee your doing it in PH city then go to Abuja, Enugu, Imo or Abia. Don't try Lagos you can't cope for now. The camp is the same everywhere, not in infrastructure though but in experience and life generally. Whatever you see in any camp is part of the fun. Just make the most of it. |
Take it easy guys. whatta gwan? This is not about Christians or Muslims. Anybody who supports the invasion of another country militarily cannot be a chritian neither do anyone who openly canvass the "wiping off" of a country from the earth a good muslim. If we believe this category of men are bad then we should team up and condemn thier actions instead of being biased based on religion. No right thinking person, christian or muslim, will support the 9/11 attacks or the invasion of Iraq. In all, "innocent" lives were lost and are still being lost in Iraq today. 9/11 did not kill bush neither did invasion of Iraq kill Osama bin Laden. |
tushman:Haba! are we now trading with women? Abeg o. |
Seun is very correct and me think so. You've already lost the chick. They are just looking for a way to pacify or pay you off. But b4 you take the money(which I believe you will otherwise you won't ask us), just take a moment to have a chat with your babe, possibly in the guys presence so everybody will know his stand (I believe in opendential). Ask her sincerely if she fancy the guy and that you are going to take the money only if she wont marry you. Period! |
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THIS COUNTRY? WE SHOULD PRAY O. I MEAN IT OBASANJO AND HIS COHORTS SHOULD LEAVE NIGERIANS ALONE. GOD HAS BLESSED HIM MUCH MORE THAN ANY BODY IN THIS COUNTRY. WHAT IS HE LOOKING FOR AGAIN? WE, NIGERIANS SHOULD RISE AGAINST THIS DICTATORSHIP. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! |
I'm not mad at all. Truly I'm not. You know I am the kind of person that takes a personal objective view of issues rathr than believe something because Mr. X says it is so and that is why I have emphasised that what I posted was my opinion in order to dissuade any reader into just swallowing it without making the effort to arrive at a personal conclusion about the issue. gbade. x:It was not an opinion but my opinion which I consider a FACT but in upholding that I do not wish to force my recognition down the throat of anyone but would want each individual to come to his or her own acceptable recognition not because I said so but because he/she has taken a further step to seek for the truth and has come to an acceptable conclusion. Whether it is in accord with my own conviction is not important. What is important is that this individual has exercised his free will and is thus responsible for it. |
@gbade.X I do not intend to enter into any form of argument on this. What I posted was my personal opinion and I explicitly stated it. I do not mandate you like the "PDP" to support or believe it. Whether you believe in re-incarnation or not is not my cup of tea . I do not care. And that you do not believe it does not make it untrue. Someone was once killed because he said the earth is round contrary to the belief held then only to be discovered after his death that he was right. gbade. x:I am very sure I did not send my "manuscript" to your inbox. I sent it to nairaland and you have the liberty to read, glance over or ignore it. Good a thing, we have an admin in the forum who can decide to remove any improper post if he so chose. |
I am a christian and I believe in the natural Law of Karma which otherwise is also known as the Law of sowing and reaping or the Law of reciprocal action. I also believe in re-incarnation as a fact of life. In saying this therefore, I must state that this is as a result of my own personal conviction and experiencing. syrup:The above is a wrong understanding of re-incarnation. A human spirit cannot be re-incarnated as anything else but a human spirit. Any opinion contrary to this is wrong. The Law of Karma says that whatsoever a man sows that shall he reap. The statment in Gal 6:7 did not say "may" or "might". It says "shall". which means it must come to pass. However, there is forgiveness in the Law of Karma and this lies in the state of the individual when its time for him to harvest that(good or bad) which he has sown. Let me paint a little picture b4 us. If for instance, a man got himself drunk and got into his car and drove off carelessly onto the road and few minutes later got involved in a ghastly road accident that claimed the life of "innocent" people as a result of his drunkenness and careless driving. If when the time for this man to reap this evil act is ripe and this man is no longer a drunk and his attitude has changed completely not merely in the outward or physical sense but also in the spiritual sense, depending on his state, the returning karma can have a different effect in many varied forms of say escaping unhurt in a ghastly motor accident or being around at such a scene to help save the life of those who are involved in an accident or instead of losing his life in such an accident, he loses maybe a limb or an arm. This is called symbolic redemption. I cannot describe everything here but I believe I have given the general idea. Coming to re-incarnation, the teaching itself was expunged from the scriptures in 553AD in the second council of constatinople. The first sentence from the council's reolution reads, "If anyone asserts the fabulous pre-existence of souls, and shall assert the monstrous restoration which follows from it: let him be anathema." The Anathemas not only suppressed the early Christian teachings within the Church, but also any teaching supportive of views on the pre-existence of the soul. Anyone publicly espousing such beliefs could be reprimanded, and, if he persisted, excommunicated from the Church. Reincarnation was suppressed by the church (or the emperor Justinian) in order to increase the power and influence of the church. The texts that offered the greatest acceptance of Roman Pagan doctrine were made part of biblical canon; those that tended to reduce the influence of the church and were offensive to Roman Pagans were declared as heresy. After Constantine's Edict of Milan in AD 313, which made Christianity a tolerated religion, Christianity became tainted with elements of Roman Paganism. Reincarnation was offensive to Roman Pagans, as were other early Christian concepts. The Roman church began to select acceptable doctrines based in part on what would cause the church (and its leaders) to have the greatest influence in society. If someone believed that they had multiple lifetimes to gain favor with God, they might not be as inclined to obey the church teachings, or to serve the church leaders. On the other hand, if people could be convinced that they had but one lifetime to "get it right", and that eternal punishment in hell awaited those who failed to heed the teachings of the church, they would be more inclined to do whatever the church leaders expected of them, including supporting the church financially. It therefore would not come as any surprise that a church that had strayed from the original teachings of Jesus would emphasize doctrines that increased the amount of control that the church had over its members. But the early church did not succeed completely as there are still accounts in the Bible that suggests the existence of reincarnation. In John 9:1-3, the disciples observe a man who was born blind, and inquire of Jesus whether the man himself or his parents sinned, that he was born blind. Jesus replies that in this case neither the man nor his parents sinned, but he does not rebuke the disciples in any way for their belief that it would have been possible for the man to sin prior to birth. Upon the Mount of Transfiguration, Christ said, "Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed… Then the disciples understood that He spake unto them of John the Baptist." (Matthew 17:12,13). Note that the understanding of the disciples may be wrong and also in that passage in the Bible, the statement was put in parenthesis to show that that part is the opinion of the disciples, But the idea is that for such a dialogue to even take place between Jesus and the Disciples suggests the existence of re-incarnation. I believe the Lord Christ would have rebuked the disciples immediately if their belief, as contained in the questions and answers, was wrong. Even Christ himself asked the disciples. "who do people say that Iam?". We know the responses. If it is not possible for souls to re-inarnate, Christ would have used any of these opportunities to say so. The verse most commonly used to refute reincarnation is Hebrews 9:27, which states that it is appointed to man to die once, and after that face judgment. This verse, considering the debate over the writer of the book of Hebrews is only a problem when one believes that no errors exist in the Bible. It is possible that the writer of Hebrews was expressing a personal belief, much as a pastor over a group of churches might today write personal beliefs to the congregation in his church. The author of Hebrews, whoever it may have been, may never have intended for his thoughts to be preached as ultimate truth for centuries to come. Hebrews is different from most other New Testament books (in part because it was directed towards Jewish Christians throughout the Roman Empire rather than those living in Palestine). But let us leave the Bible alone and ponder on our own. If we believe in the perfection and unbending Justice of the Almighty and we were told we were all created equal. How come some are born in pleasant circumstances or as we saywith "silver spoon in thier mouth" while other people are born in ghettos to suffer? Why should someone be born blind from birth if we are all created equal? And so many other forms of "injustices" that we suffer today. Does that suggest that the almighty is unjust? ofcourse No. The answer lies in Re-incarnation of which I cannot exhaust everything in this forum. I only urge each and everyone to make his own personal effort to weigh and examine the issues objectively himself and take whatever conclusion he/she arrives at(for or against). The above represents my own personal opinion and conviction on the topic. |
@ spikedcylinder, My dear na true word be that. If life don show you pepper before, meeeen, But I still believe in slow and steady. I only pray for comfort and peace of mind. I don't like to have all the money and can't even come out on the street to have a simple evening stroll with my little kid. |
I dare to ask. Please share. |
"I wonder what you expect when you pick a girl from the club?" @Kajad. I do not mean you said the above. I was just trying to emphasize my points. Again, I still believe the impression that PH gals are money conscious is true to a large extent. But all I am saying is that there are still nice gals in town. So we should not generalise. And I don't think Kajad meant indigenes when he posted the thread and so it should not be misconstrued that was what he meant. You have all manner of peolple from every part of the country in PH and most of them exhibit the same characteristic. |
I live and work in PH. I did my NYSC here and I've been here for 5 years now. I met my wife here and that was when I had no single foam in the small "hut" I was managing life then not to talk of giving her a dime. Luckily she was working and one way or the other she supports me financially. She only resigned her work and went back to school when I got a job and I was able to support her through school also. I believe if you truly look in the right places, you'll find nice and decent girls. It depends on what you want in a girl. I prefer neat, simple, natural and decently dressed girls. I wonder what you expect when you pick a girl from the club? Look in the right places and don't be in a hurry. Forget about what you hear about PH babes. I am not denying many of them are like that but you can also find nice ones. Like I said, don't be in a hurry man. Concentrate on why you are here first. Life in PH is faster than you think and hooking up with a girl that milks your pocket is not the best way to start. And one piece of advice. If you are trying to stay long here. Start thinking of buying a small land and building your own house. PH landlords are not as generous as Lagos or anywhere else. They throw you out the second your rent expires or even before then as has heppened to me. |

Heights! Heights!! Heights!!! |
If you marry someone who is Rich (or successful), what guarantee do you have that the money or the success will be with you after the marriage? Change is the only thing that is Permanent. A pauper can become Rich tomorrow so also a rich man can become poor in a second. Everyone desires the good thing of life but seek yee first the love of your man and everyother thing will be added unto you by the Grace of the Almighty. |
It's just the moral decadence in our society today. I am not, and will never be, attracted by a girl who dresses in such a manner. Beauty lies in decency and simplicity. |
@Mongue No. I'm actually in PH. And I only know of some of the guys in PH but I believe if you ask around, you'll get a lot of them in Lagos as well. Don't be surprised your neighbour across the street might be into the business. |
We should tackle poverty first before making all this useless laws. We are just like a new born baby that immediately started to run before learning how to crawl. come to think of it. don't we have a law against street hawking? and don't we see children hawk in every corner of the road in this country? They one they see everyday, they've not taken care of its to go to pple's home and check whether househelps are under 18 or not. Useless GOATS! They should tackle poverty first. I mean nobody likes these practices but what will these young poverty stricken Nigerian do. Go into armed robbery or prostitution? Is that an option? |
I must say I love Seun's idea of investing in power if the money is there. I have a six 200Ah battery bank and inverter in my office that can power the company's equipment room for 72 hours at a stretch without Nepa. People will be happy to pay more for regular and efficient power supply after all many of us spend more money paying Nepa and buying fuel/diesel for our gen sets. Check out if two or more pple can pull resources and get up to 10 million and supply power to their community. They will serve the community with power, make money and provide jobs. You can even get solar panels to charge the battery banks. I think its a brilliant idea. @gbengaijot I suggest you go thru brokers when buying shares especially if you really want to be a player in the market and not just buying shares for future. The brokers help you manage your shares and tell you when the prices to up or down so you can make some business decisions either to sell off or not. for example, the brokers monitors the performance of the companies and tell you if the company id doing well or not. If they are not doing well, you can decide to sell your shares b4 the company finally goes under. They can also inform you of other opportunities and other companies that are doing well so you can invest. And when the share price of these companies go up, you can decide to sell off your shares and make some cool cash. The percentage you pay to a broker is well worth the services. Always use professionals in your business dealings. |
Please what do you say about this site, http://www.universityofnigeria.com/. This must be a scam. I can't find any semblance with the University of Nigeria that we know. can someone please have a look? |
lol. This is nice. Thanks! |
@Mongue, My brother, na true talk be dis. Gbam! The poor masses just dey 'mumu' and the little which the politicians have left, the pastors are taking away from them. |
Most of the definitions here are correct. Okocha simply means the light-skinned man or the fair man. Normally, it might not be the real name of the person being refered to but just a way to identify him. I have a cousin who is well known by everybody in the village as Nwokocha because of his fair skin but that is not his real surname . Most of the invitations he gets bears the name, Nwokocha because most people now think that is his surname. I also know Austin's two other Brothers, Emma and James and they lived then in New Haven, Enugu before Jay Jay built the "cathedral" at Independence Layout. Austin, as I know him (when we were in National Grammar School(Nike Boys), Enugu) was destined to succeed thru football. I was actually in J.S 3 when he finished S.S 3. |
No way! Don't go to him. He will pretend and take advantage of you. If you were the one that broke up the relationship, i would have encouraged you to go and see him. If you go back now and he accepts and later throw you out you'll end up in deeper misery. |
Na wa o I jump pass am. |
I like the industry but not where I work. You can only love where I work if you are a gossip. You will get all the encouragement from the boss if you become one of his "minister of information". I am still there up till now because I like the money but am not happy. I am really thinking of quitting in the next 2 or 3 months. I want to set up something of my own and watch it grow with the help of God. |
Please go and see a doctor fast. I don't like seeing doctors myself but in so many cases they are there for you. Please go. Delay is dangerous. |
I am not so sure of the other women but Prof (Mrs) Dora Akunyili has proved that she has what it takes to be a leader. She has put her life on the line in the interest of the poor masses of this country through her crusade in NAFDAC. And, what's more she started the war with her own kinsmen in Onitsha and had the courage to sack her own brother-in-law from work. I will go for Dora Akunyili as a President. What we need in this country is a leader who is God fearing and who obeys the wishes of the common masses of this country. I don't care where the person comes from. He/she can come from the "moon" for all I care. |
If the situation presents itself a million times, I will definitely choose my wife a million times. Those shouting 'mum' should wait till they get married. I love my mum as a mother and I think she has played her role on earth with the help of her husband who loves her and I feel I cannot fully reward her up to one-tenth what she has done for me. Her reward will come from the Almighty. But now its time to move on with my life without that maternal attachment. Its the turn of my wife to fulfil the same role as my mum did and she needs my love and support to do that just as my dad gave my mother his love. In addition, if you can help it, don't allow your mum and your wife stay under the same roof for a long time even if they are the best of friends so you won't get to a situation that you need to start choosing. And again don't allow your family or your wife's family to come and settle quarrels between you and your wify. Try as much as possible to setlle your quarels yourself. This especially has worked for me. I will be having domestic issues with my wife and neither my in-laws nor my family or even visitors will hear or notice anything and we will eventually resolve the issue very maturely. |

!!!! it really gets on my nerves. we can all summarise our replies.
