Amid growing calls for secession, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, says Nigerians who preach unity will overcome those calling for secession. Symington said this in a speech at an event held in commemoration of the 241st anniversary of American independence in Abuja on Thursday. The US envoy said his country and Nigeria shared many similarities, most notably, diversity. He said the first American President, George Washington, had warned that those who seek to weaken a country would always seek to start by causing disunity. Symington said, just like America, Nigeria would remain a united country because of its determined people and leaders. He said, “Every time we have been challenged, we overcame danger because we had visionary leaders committed to union and citizens committed to ensuring justice for all. “Today, Nigeria is fortunate to have such leaders and citizens. Together, they are dedicated to keeping Nigeria united and just and to ensuring every Nigerian is heard and taken into account and treated fairly. “Together, those Nigerians will overpower any call to divide this nation. “Thanks to them, thanks to you, the lamp of unity and justice burns brightly both in our nations tonight. And the sight of a united Nigeria’s light lifts Africa and with it, the world.” The US envoy said Nigeria’s diversity is an inspiration to many countries. He said that, just like the US, Nigeria’s plurality was a source of strength. Symington added, “Wherever I meet a Nigerian, I ask ‘What do you like the most about your country?’ I like our diversity, our resilience, our energy, our warmth, our spirit, our food.’ “Just like the United States, Nigeria is a wonderfully diverse nation whose differences and diversity are sources of strength and reason for pride.” http://punchng.com/biafra-nigeria-will-defeat-separatist-agitations-says-us/ Lalasticlala |
The confusion and tension in the country now is on the high side. |
shukuokukobambi:Excellent comment from u and masterchen ![]() |
Okay |
burkingx:I swear u be werey ![]() |
Totoh dikeh sister ![]() |
Kathmandu:Lol your wahala too much abeg ![]() |
It's a fair list |
My SW peeps, pls kindly keep off from this thread. The best answer for a fool is to watch him display buffoonery while we keep silence |
beberebe:Bros, you are not current at all. Smh for u. Remittance has been paid already. http://www.ogtv.com.ng/amosun-to-off-set-workers-deductions-pay-outstanding-oct-salary/ http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/06/23-states-owe-local-govt-workers-salaries-14-months-nulge/ |
nototribalist:You are not wise at all. Do you read previous news when Fashola said infrastructural projects most especially in the south was slashed by 60percent. Wetin dey worry some people sef . The regions more affected here are SW, SS and SE but where are the reps to defend the ministry of power, Works and housing? |
But the eediots inserted Borehouse and health projects which are normal MDG projects for a different ministry under Fashola's portfolio in the budget. These people think they are smart. They know the level of tribalism itching the nation at the moment hence using it to backlash that Fashola is favouring one region to another. Months ago, Fashola gave a thorough plan of his strategic plans towards building infrastructures in all 6 geo-political zones in the country which was fair and concise. I wish thunder from galaxy will strike these evil men once and for all. |
Kathmandu:Lol u don't like the fact am greeting u? ![]() |
whitebeard:Baba pls, let stay away from their affair abeg. Their decision, their destiny. |
Abagworo:Sure boss at the bolded. But you will agree with me that our currency was among the strongest in the world then which is one of the reasons for a strong economy. |
Kathmandu:Madam, Good morning nau. Haba I dey greet u since but u dey do ako for me |
ephi123:Before oil discovery, Nigeria was among top 10 strongest economies in the world. You can Google it for strongest economies in the world at early 70's. The bolded contribute majorly to our problem. I agree with you on this. About the age stuff, Yes it is through but even if we elect someone of 50years with same mind set, he will do the same. All I want irrespective of where he hails from, should carry every region along in its strategic plans to move the nation forward. The frustration and anger in the land is terrible |
ephi123:God bless you sweet. With the technological advancement in the world currently, one would be elated to see even water as source of fuel been used by some machinery. Oil is becoming obsolete and if you click on www.oilprice.com website, you will know any country still having hope that oil will climax just like 5years ago when it peaked at $140 per barrel is on a destructive mode. We have everything it takes for survival, satisfaction and boom with all sort of natural resources from agricultural arm to solid mineral arms yet our eyes is majorly on oil oil. Even the oil sef, look at oil producing states performing terribly to pay staff, construct infrastructures, etc. Make the thing dry up abeg! Where are the days of groundnut pyramid, cocoa production, leather production, oil palm, cotton, rubber (michellin, dunelop), etc. Back to post, the governor of Ebonyi ought not to have made such statement. Ebonyi has arable land for rich production. The population and market is there, what is he waiting for? All the governors waiting for FG allocation sef deserve to be publicly disgrace. Though some governors are still trying (Lagos, Ogun, Anambra, Kebbi, Gombe, Edo, Borno and others) |
ephi123: LOL Madam , that bolded words is what it is but unfortunately only few here gave diplomatic views while others whether afonja, ipob, etc are guilty of tribal rants. That aside, oil has made us mentally lazy and I wish that resource can dry up so Nigerians can harness our potential to drive this country. UK, China, Germany, Netherlands, even Ivory coat etc don't have oil yet their economies are among the strongest in the world. |
sarrki:Lol. We are watching with our periscope from distance. Am sure cownu and his baboon cohorts will be ready to delete SS from their map ![]() I would encourage regions who are rich in agriculture, solid minerals and other non oil sectors to quickly diversify now before it's too late. According the oil price this morning, it is around $48 which just survived the splurge of almost going below $40 per barrel. When Nigeria was without oil, we are doing better. The oil made us too lazy to strategically think. |
Jombojombo:Says an IPOB tout living at Mushin oloosa ![]() |
Well, I do pray for biafra to come through so the IPOBS can stop insulting us but their manner of approach for the secession is foolish, useless, misguided and illegal. Are they telling us they don't have learned people who can fight for their course legitimately? |
This country is a big joke. I really don't have time analysing the root/tribe of this criminal background but then the reason why he has not been prosecuted is for the fact that his benefactors are powerful men in Nigeria politics. In a sane environment, he would have been evicted out of the world by now. |
We are not self sustain yet exporting. Is it not until there is abundance within, that is when there will room for export? Na so the story of cassava take start, see where we dey today? How much be Congo of garri? ![]() |
Eastfield1:Why are u awake at 3.24a.m for F sake? ![]() But I stand to be corrected, is restructuring not something of regional scope where each states in a region will harness it's resources to feed itself? As for secession, I oppose it but judging from the frustration, anger and hunger in the country, one may have a rethink it's better to form a nation of its own. Still the masses especially the IPOB are naive to see that their frustration should be expressed to their corrupt leaders, same for arewa and oduduwa youths instead we are fighting each other while elites merry in wealth. |
Kathmandu:If I no disturb u, who else I wan disturb na ![]() |
edochie12:Silence is not cowardice but pave way for strategic thinking and action ![]() |
Kathmandu:How is yours going madam? ![]() |
