Simple! They took advantage of our ignorance and greed! It's even happening today in Nigeria with the way the Northern Caliphate/Oligarchs are taking advantage of the greed, envy and hate that is rife down south to continue lording it over us!

That's the painful, bitter and unpalatable truth! wink

For clean, green and beautiful you need law and order. You need to make sure you fix your transport system and your unruly markets. For now the Obiano government is not serious. They announce no street trading yet commercial streets still full of shacks and barrow hawkers and people selling inside gutter.

Now just consider that there are less than 50 major commercial streets in the state. If you cannot manage 50 streets with your hundreds of ATMA and OCHA brigade staff you shouldn't call yourself a government.

Over 100,000 people pass through Times Square in New York a day yet you don't see the rubbish of filthy illegal hawkers as you see in Anambra where less than 5,000 visit any one of the markets. There once used to be drug peddlers and Chinese hawkers but the NY govt are firm and uncompromising unlike the corrupt Obiano OCHA brigade.

Look at Onitsha expressway, the emergency lane is littered with trailers, abandoned vehicles, pickup trucks you name it. You can't protect your roads and you call yourself government? Better governments would clamp those vehicles and collect massive fines to serve as a deterrent.
Why do we find it hard to get a handle on environmental issues? This is his 5th year as governor, you would have thought that by now we would start seeing a marked improvement in the aesthetics and ambience of roads in major cities in the state! It's not rocket science is it?

Politics › Re: Abiola: President Buhari Apologizes To Nigerians Over June 12, 1993 Election by Xander85: 6:52pm On Jun 12, 2018
Just to show you how deceitful this man is; about a year or so ago, there was noise all over (they made sure we heard it wink ) that Buhari had agreed to a court order to pay Biafrans (don't remember if it was ex-Biafran soldiers or those that suffered losses during the war) 80 something billion naira as compensation.

Now can anyone confirm if this money has been paid? But more to the point, the federal gov't agreeing to pay this compensation (whether their intentions were genuine or not) leads us to assume they recognise a wrong has been done to these people, hence restitution is in order...even though it's coming more than 40 years late!

If this be the case, how come we're yet to hear Buhari likewise offer an apology to Ndigbo and other easterners for the atrocities committed against them during the Biafra/Nigeria war!? Instead what we've got was Buhari rubbing it in and insulting our sensibilities by saying Nigeria treated Biafrans with 'brotherly love'! shocked

Oh well, since it's all about the 2019 elections, i suppose he's telling us indirectly that we have zero electoral value (unlike the SW/Yorubas he's cosying up to) and that we can go screw ourselves for all he cares! smiley

Oh boy, see forest!

I actually love these kind of natural environments. I remember when i was working for a construction coy building a road for AGIP close to Omoku. It was one of the roads being done for the community and also led to one of their sites deep in the interior forest. As you walked or drove to or from the site of work, it was very quiet apart from the different species of birds calling out to one another in the surrounding forest and a couple of monkeys swinging from tree branches! Thank heavens i never crossed paths with a python! shocked

This sort of thing is what attracts tourists.

Keep on burying your head in the sand you hear! Whatever bickering you see on here is only a reflection of what's happening in the real world! Or you think you can sweep your problems as a country under the carpet an pretend they don't exist?

The moment we stop pretending and sit down to really thrash out the issues facing us, that is the moment you'll see all this hate and fake attestations of love and unity disappear for good!

As a Igbo man, i get frustrated and annoyed when i see two-faced peeps that at best are suspicious and intolerant of my people, yet the thought of restructuring or dissolving this contraption (so they can be rid of these 'pests' for good) isn't an option they're willing to consider!

You go around NL spewing hateful and bigoted nonsense and all of a sudden you don't hate.
See your mouth like 'hate your own president'!

So absence of love equates to hate in your estimation abi? I suppose because P W Botha was president of South Africa that black South Africans like Steve Biko and Nelson Mandela would have been desperate to give him a hug!?

And a two-faced bigot like you is in no position to lecture anyone on the merits of love! First cure yourself before trying to cure others!

You see a man who has authorised the cold-blooded murder of my kinsfolk, tagged me a 5 percenter deserving much less than those whose regions voted for him in 2015, gloats on the ill-treatment meted out on my people during the Biafran war, and who ignores my kinsfolk when making appointments (disregarding federal character and quota system when it suits his agenda)....you see all this, yet still wonder why i have no love or respect for the man?

The only thing i am pleading with state and local government officials is that the should encourage these types of neighborhoods to plant at least one tree per building.

Our people probably don't know that trees purify the air we breathe by producing oxygen and taking away carbondioxide. Apart fro providing shade and make the place look habitable, there are real health benefits for planting trees.
It's so annoying that something as basic yet as important as trees are proving to be so hard for our gov'ts and people to plant in their neighbourhoods!

Though i think the responsibility for doing the actual planting should be that of the local gov'ts or relevant ministry concerned. This is in order to give it a well spaced-out and uniform look. If every and anyone goes out with shovel to plant trees in front of their houses or block of flats, it would look unplanned and irregular.

Looking at those pics of Senator Oduas' good works in Atani, i hope peeps can now begin to appreciate just how easy it is to beautify Onitsha and turn it into the best city in Nigeria.....if only attention is paid to detail, and acceptable minimum standards are kept when delivering infrastructure in the city! Open gutters and absence of sidewalks for instance...we should have passed that stage by now for crying out loud! sad

If we have very courageous leaders as Stella Odua in Igboland, we would have been emancipated.

I always remember the Enugu Intl. airport project that she championed even when all yorubas in the ministry plotted all sorts of booby traps to derail her and the project. They even got GEJ to stop backing her and she continued fearlessly. In the end, they got a carefully planned purchase of BMW for the ministry and buried it in the heap of papers the minister had to approved. Then started pressuring her to sign the heaps of approval document knowing she won't have time to look into the details of the BMW deal.

GEJ messed up big time when he removed her for that framed set up which was neither a car for her own personal use, nor did she benefit in any way from the transaction.

I love you STELLA ODUA!!!

,
Her only crime was approving expenditure above her limit! It was a carefully hatched plan to get rid of the woman and they were banking on the liverless GEJ to unwittingly help actualise it...probably threatening to pull their support for him in the soon to come 2015 elections if he didn't get rid of her!

Since then, we've witnessed a president who has made not one...not two...not three, but numerous illegal approvals and deductions from the federation account, yet the very same peeps that called for Senator Oduahs' head on a platter are gearing up to vote for the bigot again come 2019 elections! Talk about being two-faced and duplicitous!

Anambra delegation understudies Lagos counterpart
Posted By: Our Reporter On: June 9, 2018 In:

A delegation of environmentalists from Anambra State has praised the “greening initiative” of the Lagos State Government

Members of the team, led by Anambra State Leisure Parks & Street Beautification Managing Director, Mrs. Ify Atogu, said they were highly impressed with what they saw in the state.

Atogu spoke as the delegation concluded a week-long tour of Lagos State Parks and Gardens (LASPARK). The visit was to understudy LASPARK’s activities. The delegation also joined its host in planting trees.

Atogu said the tour was at the instance of Governor Willy Obiano, who directed them to come and study the way Lagos was beautifying its environment with a view to replicate same in Anambra, and improve the performance of their agency. She described Obiano as a man “with open mind to development; lover of beautiful environment”.

Atogu, who joined the LASPARK crew in its tree planting exercise in Imota Local Council Development Area, Ikorodu Division, Lagos with her team, said she had learnt so much from LASPARK, especially in the workers’ commitment and passion for the job. She promised to take the experience home and encourage her workers to imbibe same.

The Imota tree planting exercise was part of the LASPARK’s tree planting initiative to aid the actualisation of the agency’s set target of planting 10 million trees in the state by 2020.

The exercise, which was led by the Agency’s General Manager, Mrs. Bilikis Adebiyi-Abiola, said the event is part of the activities to usher in the annual tree planting campaign holding next month.

She explained that the choice of Imota Local Council Development Area for the exercise was borne out of the fact that the area had been a strategic partner in the cause of propagating the culture of tree planting in the state. The LASPARK chief said the same exercise had been successfully launched in Ikeja and Epe divisions, adding that it is also to ensure that the local community takes active part in the state greening programme.

“This project is vital to our collective survival because trees are life, therefore, the life of every tree planted in this community today counts. We must own them and see them as means to an end,” she said. According to her, the exercise was also in line with the millenium development goals (MDG 7), aimed at ensuring environmental sustainability.

She noted some of the importance of planting trees to include oxygen production; balancing of eco-system; reducing the effect of flash floods; filtration, as trees absorbs and reduces pollutants, provides amenity, aesthetic value and historical continuity. Trees also increase the value of properties and undeveloped land by more than 30 percent.
After this visit, will anything change drastically or is it just playing to the gallery?

About two years ago i remember a tree planting initiative was launched in Anambra, yet today i don't see what has been done differently! Even i that has no formal training in horticulture can change the face of Anambra within a year given the opportunity...all it needs is commitment and some funds!

All Anambra needs is a few well maintained state parks for leisure, greening up all open public spaces like was done on the flyover medians, regular street/gutter sweeping/cleaning, tree planting on major streets and highways, and sanitary inspectors to inspect neighbourhoods, compounds and other public areas on a weekly basis. Shikena!

These people placing ads for house helps and such....don't they have extended family in the village they can bring to the city to help them? Isn't that the way our parents did it?

Placing ads for drivers, cooks and house helps only works well in countries that have everyones details and work/criminal history on record.
