investnow2013: Diversion Of Govt Revenue: Market Union Leader Arrested In Nnewi 25 MAY 2018
WRITTEN BY AMAKA CHIBUZOR OKOYE State government has apprehended one Mr. Obinna Okechukwu for allegedly diverting government funds into his private pocket.
Mr. Obinna Okechukwu who is the Chairman New Motorcycle Spare Parts Nnewi was said to have been the government revenue agent for the market but printed his own receipt instead of using government approved receipt, thereby diverting some of the money.
Amaka Chibuzor Okoye who witnessed the arrest reports that while handing over Mr. Okechukwu to the men of Department for State Services the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, Markets and Wealth Creation, Dr. Christian Mmadubuko, said that information has been filtering to the Ministry that Mr. Okechukwu has been dubiously collecting illegal revenue on behalf of government, issuing fake receipt without remitting the money into government coffers.
Dr. Mmadubuko stated that Mr. Okechukwu claimed that he has paid in ten million naira into government account and still have about seven million naira and admitted that he stopped other members of the Market Executive from being involved in revenue collection with a promise to settle them with the money generated and stated that full investigate will be carried out by security agencies to help expose those who divert government funds.
The Commissioner warned revenue agents to know that government will not tolerate sharp practices, rather they should remit to government coffers what they collected and disclosed that they have prosecuted about ten market leaders and recovered all diverted money back into the government coffers.
Narrating his side of the story, Mr. Okechukwu said he has been using the receipt to collect tax which every other market in Nnewi is using, alleging that a particular informant fabricated the story which led to his arrest as he has paid ten million naira within three months in office. It's these thieving bastards that are responsible for the relatively poor IGR returns in the state. They should lock him up and melt the key!! |

This one has refused to call a spade, rather he keeps beating around the bush just to be politically correct.. Average IBO man wants nothing but total balkanization of this rotten contraption , but politicians keep sabotaging it for their own egocentric benefit. Some of them believe that once this country is balkanized, majority of them might fizzle away from political scene . Then the mischievous ones among them will keep shouting "restructuring" like lunatics just to save face while some gullible southerners are buying such useless idea. What are you restructuring,?, the same restructuring Ojukwu clamoured for @ Aburi which Gowon rejected hence the civil war.. Even those that are clamouring for restructuring have done practically nothing about it other than hinding under their keyboards to clamour for their own restructuring .. Funny enough than those clamouring for the so called restructuring are quick to criticize IPOB for their protest of independence why "restructuring" chanters are doing their restructuring protest behind the closed
Obiano should go and hide his face Thank you bros! What he have here is a classic case of burying your head in the sand hoping your problems would go away! It seems they only chant this 'restructuring' mantra just to take some of the wind out of the sails of IPOBs demand for referendum! They want to make it look like there's a 2nd and much preferred option available to us. Now after the effort, time and money wasted on that jamboree on Monday, everyone has gone back home and it's business as usual! Even if, by some form of divine providence, the polity is restructured, the core Muslim north with their unfair numerical advantage in states and LGAs will ensure that whatever is agreed would be so watered down and insignificant to be of any use to anyone down south: they'd still have same unfair advantage in number of states/LGAs, still be leeching off the oyel and gas in the south, still ensure all the critical ministries, depts, institutions and security outfits (like the army, police, aviation, ports, customs, NNPC, etc) are in the exclusive list where they can still control and keep an eye on things, and continue in the quest of holding down the south so they don't develop too much and leave the north for dust! |

My point is, have they exhausted all possible avenues of arresting him before rushing to sensationally declare him wanted? The courts can declare him wanted only after going to effect arrest at his home or office and he is not found there! So because of what happened last time when police went to his home to arrest him, it therefore means that he would be declared wanted in perpetuity, since the police are 'scared' of the reaction that would follow if they went to his home or office? |

The same way you people have been crying victim of how how they ceased your properties in Lagos. Of which many of you that are truthful here have said how they returned their properties, including money for rent. How come you did not ask me who Robert is to ojukwu. And why he wrote that letter n resign from working with him? Now, if I bring the story written by the son of the land in midwest, you that asked for it will still call it lie. Was Midwest ever being part of East before the war. Why did you people like covering your atrocities and cry victims about yours. Is it cos of defeat or what. If you people had won, would all this cries happens. To know the atrocities of your soldiers against innocent n defenseless citizens of the people of Midwest. Go and read Midwest invasion of 1967. No matter how you people cry victim, we have the history. Honestly, you guys are so despicable and vile! In your attempt at revisionism and trying to portray a people whose only 'crime' is that they're sick and tired of sharing the same country with scum, you resort to all manner of tall tales concocted in your lab of propaganda and falsehood! How come the reports of so called Biafran 'atrocities' in your first link are being made known by a man who in all likelihood wasn't a participant in the war and who sounds like he's cut from the very same cloth as Itse Sagay (ie, dislikes Igbos)! I scanned your first link looking for the independent/neutral source of the authors allegations but found none! Probably he either imagines the stuff he wrote, or he was told so by another equally insecure bigot! If such atrocities were actually committed by Biafran soldiers, doesn't it stand to reason that the federal gov't of the day would have made capital out of it to show to the whole world Biafran 'aggression' and 'wickedness'? This would have been a surefire way to win even more Midwesterners over to their side, don't you think? Wouldn't there be newspaper reports on such 'atrocities' that can be referred to or quoted? Instead, what we have (your second link is proof of this as well) is someone, twenty years after the uncivil war, waking up in the morning and sitting down in their study to cook up a yarn worthy of the Pulitzer prize for literature! Given how evil the federal gov't of the time was (the fulani were actually pulling the strings behind the scene...forget that dumb christian called Gowon being HoS), it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility to suggest that they actually carried out a couple of atrocities in the Midwest themselves and then turned around to blame the Biafrans!....They're that devious!! It's a tried and tested technique that's still in use even till today where you see mercenaries, bandits and foreign terrorists wearing the Nigerian army uniform to commit unspeakable evil on civilians (most of whom are christians and middle-beltans)! Here are a few INDEPENDENT links on the Nigerian atrocities in Biafra...not conjecture, tales-by-moonlight, or malaria-induced hallucinations!: https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/asaba-massacre/A4F701A1F1228255ECFF10E4DC8375A1http://archive.spectator.co.uk/article/27th-december-1968/10/britain-and-biafra-the-case-for-genocide-examineThe Government has not thought it necessary to underline that the last big arms agreement was accompanied by a U0 million interest-free loan to the Nigerian government (ostensibly for telephones) and that to all intents and purposes
we are giving these arms to the Nigerians. The only other justification which I have heard ad- vanced by ordinary people with " an awareness of what is happening is that if we do not support the Nigerians in their efforts to crush Biafran
nationhood and extinguish as many Ibos as are necessary for this purpose, then we shall lose our investments in Nigeria, variously estimated at between £200 million and £1.000 million. Although photographs of the atrocities being perpetrated in Biafra have appeared in most newspapers, the general impression given by the captions and news coverage is that the children are starving to death as the result of a famine brought about by the war. Not a single newspaper has seen fit to point out that the children are dying as the direct and in- tended result of a siege which is supported by the British government, by the official opposi- tion party and by very nearly every Common- wealth correspondent in Fleet Street. However, since the failure of the 'quick kill,' Nigeria has returned to a siege strategy. Possibly this siege is intended to last only as long as is necessary for the Nigerians to secure another massive arms build-up, but the indications are otherwise. A siege is far cheaper and less dangerous to the fragile structure of Nigerian unity. Anybody can now see that a siege has no hope of working (at any rate until three quarters of the Biafrans are dead) and anybody at all interested in the matter is now in a posi- tion to decide that the only logical intention behind the resumption of siege tactics is a genocidal one. Visitors to Nigeria invariably come away convinced that no such intention https://sites.tufts.edu/atrocityendings/2015/08/07/nigeria-civil-war/Atrocities (1966-1970)
The first phase of violence occurred from May 29 to September 29, 1966, when organized killings of Igbo communities took place in northern and western Nigeria. The ancestral land of the Igbo is in eastern Nigeria, but communities lived in northern areas as well. The traditionally northern ethnic communities resented the Igbo for dominating commerce and for their perceived desire to become the new rulers of independent Nigeria.[i] The proximate cause of the first wave of inter-communal violence seems to have been a January 1966 military coup led by a small group of junior southern (and primarily Igbo) Nigerian officers, which led to the killing of several prominent northern politicians.[ii] In the months that followed, ethnically targeted attacks accompanied by mob violence unfolded in three main waves throughout the northern and western regions. The first and third wave targeted Igbo civilians living outside the east. Between those waves soldiers in July 1966, there was a counter-coup, during which Igbo officers and men were systematically slaughtered.[iii] The extent to which Nigerian state officials organized and coordinated the killings remains disputed.[iv] General Yakubu Gowon, named Nigerian Head of State following the counter-coup, spoke out against the anti-Igbo violence, but the national government failed to assert its authority to effectively end the killings. Though death tolls have not been well documented, it is estimated that a minimum of 3,000 and a maximum of 30,000 Igbos living in northern Nigeria were killed during these attacks.[v] |

If he's saying the truth, why didn't he talk about how biafram soldiers molested, raped and killed people of Midwest, why did he not talked about the letter written to ojukwu from Robert S Goldstein about how ojukwu was diverting food mentioned for women n children to his soldiers n leave the women n children to die. Truth my foot. Far be it from me to want to interrupt the back-and-forth you're enjoying with Horsepower, but could you corroborate that your claim of Biafran soldiers molesting, raping and killing (by killing i mean killing of noncombatans) in the Midwest? On the accusation of Ojukwu diverting supplies: seeing that the use of starvation as weapon of war was the brainwave of Awo (apparently, conventional warfare wasn't getting them anywhere, despite all the outside help from Arab nations and the U.K, so he had hoped to get at the soldiers via starving their women and children)....since Awo initiated this wicked policy, don't you think you should first start by questioning the accuracy of his moral compass before accusing Ojukwu (that was fighting a war of survival for his people) of denying his people food? All of a sudden, someone that sees nothing wrong in Awos' policy of starvation, shooting anything that moves and lining up all the young men in Asaba to be summarily executed....all of a sudden, you're now caring for Biafran women and children!? |

Throwback: But it was clearly stated from the evidence you supplied, that it was a corrective slot allocation that has now balanced what was previously skewed to favour the South by the Jonathan regime and has now aligned with the federal character principal you seek to defend.
It simply means the Jonathan regime with a Southerner as head of DSS, ensured more Southerners were employed based on "Merit". Now the Buhari regime with a Northerner as head of DSS, ensured more Northerners were employed based on the same "Merit".
So what exactly is wrong that the federal character you love so much has now been balanced?

The biggest problem and obstacle that IPOB actually face is that a good section of those they are fighting for see themselves as Nigerians and are the only NIGERIANS that exist, because Hausa-Fulani and/or Yoruba see their tribe and even religion before they see Nigeria. Nigeria for them is only a concept to enrich themselves and have something to further their life or lifestyle, while stupid Igbo and minorities actually see themselves as “Nigerian” and thus will deny their history or even themselves...

Bede2u: As the picture below shows, the six geopolitical zones need to become six authonomous regions, with an elected government. Other reforms can be in the following forms; 1. A premier should be elected for the six regions. The 774 LGA chairmen should become regional legislators. The top traditional rulers from each region should form regional House of Chiefs (equivalent of Senate). The 36 states should be federating units within each region, the 3rd tier of government and as presently organised.
2. The resources found anywhere within the land border of the six regions would belong to the regional government. It would be theirs to exploit and share among their federating states. The entire resources found in Nigeria's territorial waters would belong to the Federal government. It would be theirs to exploit and utilise entirely for the funding of federal budgets. There would no longer be monthly allocations given to any state or region.
3. Until offshore oil finishes, taxes would only consist of state taxes and regional taxes. Taxes should seek to take much more from the rich (Dangote, Adenuga, Elumelu etc) than it currently does.
4. There would be a federal police, regional police and state police. All federal roads would belong to the regional government. All items on exclusive list (with exception of Military, Foreign affairs, CBN, Customs and Road safety) would be brought to the concurrent list so that Federal, Regional and State government can be involved as well.
5. The federal government would use its resources to develope Abuja, the FCT. It should also spend some resources on Special Economic Zones such as Lagos, PH and Kano
6. The regions should have authority to develope regional symbols such as flags, coat of arms and regional anthems. They should also be allowed to negotiate directly with foreign governments on Economic and cultural issues only. For you to still want to hold on to the 774 LGAs, i'm guessing you're a northerner. And besides, there's no restructuring that will be done without giving people a choice as to which region state they want to belong to. Right now, we have a situation where people were told by the military (and a few scheming politicians) which region/state they should be in. Freedom to choose means just that...freedom to choose! |
