Oil is no longer a blessing. The world is moving away from oil. Germany generate my energy with renewable source than the whole of Africa. Venezuela has oil badges floating at sea that nobody want. Gone are those days when nations wealth is judge my their oil deposits.
Cyberterror: The Gulf of Guinea holds Nigeria's largest offshore oil deposits estimated to last another 100 years. Nigeria is indeed blessed.
Even with CCTV, a car without a license and criminal with covered face leave you with nothing to work with. A good look at the man's life will have traces that when connect together, it might lead to something to solve his murder.... CCTV hardly help with premeditated crimes cos such criminals already dud their homework before committing such crime.
mctfopt: I wish we have CCTVs around many public places. It may not prevent a crime, but at least we may get to see the criminals and hopefully capture them. Sadly this case is dead on arrival...the police will just come and tow vehicle to their station. And demand some ridiculous amount of money when the relative or kin comes for it. The story ends there. What a country!
I was once in your shoe. No permanent residence and was caught in-between investing in myself or start building a house in Nigeria. I chose the former and I was glad I did. I triple my earning in less than 2 years and was able to start building the same house with less stress. The point is, even when you start building the so called house, the return on investing will be low cos it makes time to recoup your investing in real estate. Invest in yourself, increase your earn and you can go on and build yourself a house and do other good stuff.
Be objective. They are in business to make money and not a charity organization. Staff will be let go due to decrease in price and demand for petroleum products. I guess you want them to pay people for doing nothing at work. Your emotions is speaking for you..
Agreed with you that development is relative but don't be fooled by first world countries either. 10 miles away from downtown Chicago, you will see houses falling apart, pot holes big enough to make you lose control of your vehicle. Our states government need to up the construction of roads and people will bring development to places even without government intervention as long as their is motorable roads
babag93: Well.. The definition of development is relative. What we call development here is an insult in first world countries. Whenever we the people are ready, we’ll get the right people into positions they can make ACTUAL DEVELOPMENT CHANGES.
A one eyed man is the king in the land of the blind..
What do you mean "WE" have no choice? Let me spell it out for you so you can understand we have a choices and the timing is wrong.
United States had borrowed $6 trillion to bail out her economy during this pandemic
United States social security savings is short $16 trillion and will go bankrupt by 2035.
Despite the huge borrowing the government did, they still realize the economy can't be left alone to go into recession and pay $600 for the few months of pandemic to boost purchasing power of Americans. Nigerian government, in it wisdom things now that the economy is already in recession is the appropriate time to increase gas and electricity tariffs. That is plain DUMB.
You made a valid points but my problem is why now? Why now because the economy is already is recession and increasing the prices of necessities will make the economy slide into depression. This government should have started fading out subsidy in power sector over 4 years ago but why wait now when average Nigerians are without jobs and can't even feed their families. Government world over are stimulating their economy by boosting purchasing power but Nigerian government is doing the reverse and how do they expect to pull the economy out of recession... To me, removing subsidy on anything now is nothing but voodoo economics and will make everybody worse off with the government inclusive.
1. When discos and gencos were set up, the government of your hero GEJ in order to keep prices low made discos sell power at a low rate...with the idea that government would pay them a subsidy of sorts.
2. Government has been struggling to pay that subsidy since then , especially after APC took over. In 2016,the discos took out a paid advert begging government to pay up.
3. Today, as one report put it, government has been spending 1 trillion naira annually subsidising the power sector.
4. This is because it costs 53 naira to produce one kWh of power, while we pay 30 naira or less till recently ( and the recent increase affects some customers not all). That means a loss of 23 naira at least per power unit sold
5. This makes it difficult for discos to pay gencos and this is why discos reject electricity. When you are operating at a loss, you can't buy stuff.
6. Gencos, especially the gas reliant ones, have to pay for gas . In dollars. From the open market. CBN hates releasing dollars to them.
7 . Banks won't give loans to the power industry because no one loves loaning cash to a subsidised industry
8. Hence the recent price increase. In my opinion, government should even hands off setting prices and let the discos look for money. Power would be more expensive, but at least, we save money from not paying subsidies
Depression loading. This is not a good time to sack employee if government can afford to pay their salaries. The economy is already in recession and mass sacking will slide the economy into depression and that will be bad for everybody including the government
You can save yourself the " self employed" story please. Naija economy is already in recession and not even self employed people will be save due to shortage of cash. Only few people are getting paid and those getting paid are on half salary and even government on all levels are readjusting their budget which means there is fire on the mountain. Only government bailout can save the situation just like Yankee doing.
This is why is good to be self employed. No matter how much salary you earn, job wen no be your own no go ever be your own!
They must sack/retire you someday and the worst part be say e fit happen when you no get savings
Please if you are earning above 200k naira, Biko start small business for back up oh. Make you no come here d paste aza for us. We no fit fall for “local” scope
Thanks. I decide to omit the country cos NL people sometimes reason somehow but the lession of the story is skill. I am presently helping a friend to go learn a skill. With a good skill, you feed your family any part of the world and that is the definition of a man. We ain't all going to be rich but feeding my family brings satisfaction and I can always hold my head up high.
God bless you, your family, and your hustle. You took the word out of my mouth. I will be a little detailed. There is nothing you can compare to skill to in Naija, US, UK, or any other country. Young people need to learn sustainable skills and not just jump from one hustle to another cos those skills are not transferable and you keep starting all over and the cycle continues. I remember when I left Naija in 2014. I did warehouse labor and wanted to die and I hate group-home work with passion and that is a no go area for me. I decided I needed skill and concludes truck mechanic is what I want. I went to a community college close to my house and acquire a skill and that was the best decision of my life. Now only did I work as a fleet technician with Coca-cola with good pay and benefits but also an Adjunct Professor with a technical school close my place. Hustle can only take you but so far but the answer to poverty and joblessness is SKILL, SKILL.
Redman44: Bro, I thank God for your life. However, I think you should apprentice yourself to a Plumber, Painter or Carpenter and learn some skills from them. If you humble yourself and apprentice yourself to any of them, they will take you along to sites and they will pay you some stipend everyday for being their assistant. If you learn quickly, you can start doing your own private jobs when you are free. Carrying pans of cement and sand etc is a very difficult job. You have to be extra strong to survive on jobs like that. Plumbing, Painting and Carpentry bring in more money if you are gifted in those areas. Cheers.
Recession loading and possibly would graduate to depression. Nigeria economy is stimulate by government spending and now that all level of government cutting spending, we are in trouble. This is the time for the federal government to stimulate the economy by injecting cash or else we are heading to a very bad time that would be worse than great depression.
Nice. Let's take this conversation off NL. I will hit your mail up. Thanks
Negro1: I own trucks. Not a large fleet though. A 30 tons flatbed and two 10 tons truck. I don't have a degree in this line. Much of my knowledge has been gained while on the job and interaction with colleagues and other people in the industry.
Cool. Do you own trucks, drive or manage trucks? What type of truck etc. Please explain if you don't mine. I own trucks and also fix it. I have a degree in Medium/Heavy duty technology
I am looking to meet people already in trucking business to share ideas about trucking etc. I am in trucking business but not in Nigeria and I will like to establish trucking business in Naija. Any trucker who is willing to share ideas, partner etc is highly welcome to contact. Thanks
Time to move to country music capital. Good to know you. How long you being living in TN?
Predstan: Lol... I live in Tennessee and out of the Capital. I pay 600 monthly for a one bed apartment. This is not a house or a condo but an apartment. If you think this is just too small to be true then I can show you a 3 bed house that cost 750 monthly in Franklin state of tennessee.
If an apartment cost 900 in chicago. Check same house in Washington county in the same state of Illinois.
$600 monthly means you living in the worst apartment and possibly a run down city. I used to live in Chicago, now live in Virginia Beach and the decent apartment is $900 for decent one bedroom apartment. Apartment that cost $600 with gym and pool is out of this world. What city do you live in? It's either you ain't telling the truth or you are sharing an apartment which means it's $1200 for 2 bedroom.
Predstan: That's not true. A house of 1500 dollars in a Month will cost you over 15million naira per year in Nigeria. Please compare what's comparable not foolish things.
I am in the US and all I pay in month is about 600dollars including unlimited Wifi, trash and electricity. This same one bed house will cost over 7million per annum in Nigeria. If you add cost of petrol, security and data monthly. It will be up to 8million. Note also, I use over 70gb on my phone and close to 150gb data on my laptop every month on my laptop. I have access to the Gym, pool, drives my car on a good road. I do not also have to pay for Cooking gas
Replying to you is a waste of time. Go get a US visa and try your luck applying to teller job at BOA.. Best of luck
alfredilly: You people will just openly vomit your ignorance here. $20 per hour minimum wage does not apply to every workers in the bank. A minimum wage is meant for the least qualified employee and at $20 per hour, it's a dream job even for Nigerian graduate. With that amount, a worker who put in 8 hour per day will earn 160 use. That's over 40 thousand naira per day and close to 1.2 million naira per month. This for a least qualified employee. Tell me a bank that pay graduate 250 k in Nigeria.
You mean but you are right. Naira rich and those kinds of work that is available here, you can't even dream of doing it back home..
planetx: Everyone is earning six figures in corporate America on an anonymous forum, I don't need to roll with illegal immigrants to know that the vast majority of Nigerians living in the US are only Naira rich because of the terrible exchange rate.
You absolutely do not have a clue of what you are talking about. Bank of America just increase employees wages to minimum of $20 per hour. Banking sector is the least paying cooperate sector in America except you are executives. The problem about NL advice is people who are yet to get into a plane will tell you how to live your life in UK and US.
alfredilly: Most big corporation like banking sectors pay a starter about $120k annually. That is approximately 30 million naira which if broken down to monthly salary give about 2.5 million naira. That is the allure of working in affluent nations. Many Nigerian who understands that gap between salary scale in Nigeria and advance country have embraced the privilege. A medical doctor frustrated with poor pay in Nigera left Nigerian university teaching hospital for UK and within a year, he was sending 2 million naira to his wife in Nigeria.
Charity work alone does not help a case in US. The first thing a judge look at before sentencing if you are a first offender. You get lots of pass if this is your first crime compare to habitual offender. Second, was it just one time commission of a crime or years in criminal endeavors... He spent years scamming people and that is a minus for him. He is looking at 20 years with plead deal and if he fight his case in court, they will lock him up and throw away the key. Prosecutor recommended 20 years for Invintus despite he plead guilty and save the court time and money..
Millenniumlady: I think the only thing he can do for him now is to help him reduce his jail term but it's likely to be difficult because I don't remember any charity works carried out by husp to present as evidence to help him get few jail time.......Charitable works are one of the things helping all this U.S. celebrities with low jail time or getting out by bail .
Educate yourself. FBI need a subpoena from a judge before Google allow them access to his Gmail, iCloud account. That is not snitching. It is called proper channel...
But the thing is FBI already hacked his instagram, gmail, and i cloud accounts based on the affidavit the FBI agent first submitted
Google and Gmail are both American companies, they easily snitch on you and dont tell you to change your password or anything so in your end you just keep logging in and logging out like nothing is happening.
Also his phone records appeared to have been compromised
Even the affidavit the FBI guy submitted had his passport in it ( they could only get that from going into somewhere private in your email )
Then from his bank accounts, large transfers would have been deposited into it someway somehow.
Then the large cash found on him ( any amount more than £10,000 is money laundering on the spot )
The only evidence they probably would tell the jury probably be based on either a conspiracy to defraud.
Based on my experience there wont be much oral evidence, just documentary evidence from the big tech companies saying what was going on in his email accounts and his bank accounts
Conviction easy to secure on this alone without anyone testifying to say he defrauded them and vice versa
Most things the jury would see would just be reports of him discussing wire transfers and how it eventually landed in his account.
Normally the only way to defend a case like this is to argue perhaps a bank learnt you the money or you had a very rich portfolio to start with.
If huspuppi lawyer is smart, he can always start a defence all the tech reports here and there had nothing to do with his client and perhaps a blackmail by the prosecution to make his client pay for unexplained losses elsewhere.
He could also use jusridiction, hush was always in dubai all the time, so hence no connection.
But the hush guy too no go school so im sure he wont be able to even communicate his defence to his lawyer, all he was busy doing was stealing money and buying gucci up and down.
I accused him of raising false alarm cos he made it look like his card was declined cos he is a Nigerian and that was why I gave my experience. It does not matter where you are from, if your bank suspects fraud, your bank has the right to decline the use of your card.
omanzo02: OP is not raising false alarm, countries where credit card is rampant are most monitored and transactions are subject to approval, for example, European banks intentionally blocked the use of their credit card ( especially Visa and Mastercard given out in Europe) in the United States, if you traveling to the USA you must apply to your bank to temporarily open your credit card for usage while you are there. That's no brainer, Nigeria is also on the list of monitored countries.
OP is raising false alarm. I used my CC to pay UK Visa fee and it was rejected. I had to call my bank to authorize the payment before It was allow to go thru. Most bank will reject international transaction if said account does not do international transaction foro security purposes.
dtsfynest: Nothing strange here other than the merchant informing you that some international credit card companies "might" decline use of their credit cards on some Nigerian merchant sites. Just the way some Nigerian bank debit and credit cards dont work on some FX/ crypto currency trading sites. Asides that, some Nigerian merchants and especially this site may generally prefer debit card payments especially to counter cases of charge backs and stories associated with Credit cards.
Like I said. Nothing strange here. (Edited for those quoting me) In many international merchant sites not even Nigerian, you may have to call your bank to allow the credit card payment through. Only difference here is the merchant (Nigerian immigrations) is giving you a heads up that it may not work.
Not all CCs automatically work on all merchant sites. It has nothing to do with Nigeria or what not.
You sound very ignorant in your post. First, phone call is not free in US prison. Your receiver pays and that is why it's called collect calls. Naija prison is horrible and Yankee prison is bad too. You get raped easily in yankee prison. Free food!!!! Think again boy... You work and some prisoners earn as low as 4 cents per hour... Please come yankee prison and let them gang rape you and you will wish you was dead. You don't know half of what you are talking about.
DuBLINGreenb: Won't happen but las las hush done chop money, flex life, lived lavish, flown choppers, flown private, had the most exotic cars, mingled with celebs obtained connections, became a known international brand.
No jail can take that away from him, if he comes out of prison he will be better than most poor Nigerians because he has a platform, he has connections, he has experience, he is known and so on. He won't be starting from square 1
He can write a bestseller book, be a TV host, sing music people will buy, sell his story to American media companies, work for security organisations abroad etc
Most Nigerians live in houses worst than American prisons me typing this have not seen electricity in 42 hours straight, I paid aboki 50 bucks to charge my phone, American prisons have 24/7 electricity, gym, free TV, free laundry services, free phone calls and free food that is why black Americans even the celebs see jail as an achievement as street cred status bringer
how many haven't been to jail? you tell me as we speak many US celebs are in jail including Steven Spielberg's daughter, R Kelly, Da baby etc Even Robert Downey Jr, Lil Kim, tommy Lee, Mark Wahlberg have all been to U.S prison Their prison is not like our own many come out of jail looking better than they did before they went in.
Those quoting me will chose 10 - 15 years in American prison and a lifetime of living lavish for themselves and their family without thinking twice over being a poor Nigerian from birth to death.
Ask yourself what odds hushpuppi had of being as rich as he was without doing what he did? We all know majority of Nigerians will be born into poverty and will die in poverty but we all want to delude ourselves by thinking "I will be the one to make it" niggger that's what the other 100,000,000 dead Nigerians before you thought, you think every poor Nigerian chose to be poor? or they don't know your God or another one is "if he didn't do crime he would be enjoying by now!" Nigguh enjoying what exactly
Simple question please how many Nigerian lawyers do you know richer than or even half as rich as Hushpuppi? Even the celebs how many of them where as rich as hush? Only the very top 1%
Another quick question? Ask them how many years and how much suffering, and how much connections etc it took them to get that degree and then that position and if the pay for those without connection is adequate, do the same for every other profession except clergy and politicians
And decide for yourself what chance the vast majority of Nigerians have of becoming millionaires or even hundred thousandnaires ?
I'm not encouraging crime please don't do crime but let us be realistic in our thoughts and speech,
I thought if you go to school you must be rich until I was in a slum and a woman told me she did her youth service in taraba, I was surprised I was like wtf excuse me, she said yes she served in.... She didn't know I was thinking shocked thinking to myself "how did you go to school for 17+ years only to end up in this slum in this poverty" I assumed everyone in slums where uneducated never do wells, miscreants etc.
Imagine if she, like most young girls were compelled to sleep with lecturers for grades, or sorted to pass and all that thinking riches were ahead of them upon graduation only to end up in a slum without husband and children hey this isn't fiction this lady was quarrelling with another non educated woman the other day I recorded what the women were using to insult her. Her lack of husband and children she kept saying she sacrificed all that for school and her future but you decide if this is a future worth losing sleep for, worth losing meaningful relationships for
Do you think 11 million dollars is 11 thousand dollars? The recommended sentence is 20 years and if the judge is nice, he will get 15 years and if the judge is a mean person, he will get more than the recommended sentence. Prosecutor recommended sentence are guidelines and judges are not bound by it. You can get less which is likely happen most time but you can get more if the judge deem fit for your crime...
megastu: Its in his best interest to plead guilty. Save the court's time and money.
He could get between 4-8yrs just for cooperating with authorities. It will be counted from the day of his arrest, so he will be out in 3 years. I just hope he learns his lesson after this encounter
