Op. I want to believe this your story na fable because if it's not, your dad took an unnecessary risk. There are many ways to skin a dog but sticking your hand in its mouth isn't one of them. I bet if it were to be today's herdsmen, your father would probably not survive that encounter.
A better alternative would have been to organise a local vigilante group and find out where they usually attack from then prepare towards when next they come.
