Please, I would love to find out from experienced and landed seniors in the house: 1. Between getting a job as a post doc student (Faculty position/Academia) and a job in IT, which is more lucrative and have brighter prospect for an immigrant? (not necessarily software development as I am not fully grounded in it yet. Although I have beginners knowledge on Android and Web development.). 2. Which of the two job areas is more available, easier to get and with less competition? Target Provinces are, but not limited to Ontario and Alberta. Thank you in advance. |

GboyegaD: Thank you very much for your answer. I started this year and have two more years to finish PhD program. Hopefully, I would love to be in the academics as that has been my intention from the onset. Working with computers is my hobby and something I am good at. I wish I could get an idea of which area of science that will be suitable for someone with my set skills i.e ICT and Biochemistry. I have seen courses like Computational Biology, Biomedical Informatics, Bioinformatics, Health Informatics. But also observed a lot of debates about which is better as a course, in relation to getting a job and competition therein weither in academics or industries. Pardon my ignorance. Being a doctoral student, can one be able to get a job with good enough income to fend for his family of 3? I ask this because immigrating to a new country (even if developed) has its own challenges and I am trying to get as much information as possible from experienced folks. Please @wip7 I need your input on this and my earlier question. Thank you Sir. |

Warmest Regard to everyone for the wealth of knowledge on this thread. I am currently a PhD student in a Federal University in Nigeria. My field of study is in Food and Nutrition Biochemistry with my research area covering on Electroculture. I am processing my Canada PR and would love to get advice from experienced persons here. I need career guidance. In all humility, my academic qualifications are BSc (BCH), MSc(BCH), PGDE, MPhil (BCH) and BSc (Comp.Sc.). Obtained in that order. I observed that our education system is quite poor in comparison to that in Canada and fear a situation where it will look like all my academic qualification comes to 'nothing' on getting to Canada. What position in Academia can one via for in Canada as a PR with these educational qualifications from Nigeria? (I only have two co-authored published work - 1 in an international journal the other in a local journal). Should I include going back to do a MSc program with my Comp. Science degree as a plan (Canadian Education: The onlyCanadian Education route I can take now since I will be obtaining a PhD from Nigeria)? If yes what area/course can I do that blend some biochemistry with computer science? (I don't wish to be redundant in my academic achievement in the field of Biochemistry. Hence my thought that a collaboration of the two field will be nice.) Actually, I have a flare for computer related stuffs (Aiming to go into programming and software development) and have 10years of experience working as a cybercafe owner hence my desire to obtain a degree in Computer Science (God helped and I got a CGPA of 4.35/5). Never really worked for anyone since I started the biz immediately after NYSC. I am married with kid and I am closing in on middle 30's. I will really really appreciate feedback and advice, PLEASE. I am in a similar situation and was expecting an ADR if need be, especially for tax CC. On mailing both ACCRA and LONDON if they need any clarification or additional document to buttress the case under review in my application , they both replied that I am in a queue for interview and no further information is required and that they will contact me SOON. Well, its been a wait for the interview date ever since. Can't say if raising a CSE will help or not. But I think most self-employed are called for an interview regardless the amount of documents submitted. joebudden: 2 Likes 1 Share |

What is your AOR? Have you ordered for notes to see the case analyst comment on your application? If not, now will be a right time to do so. joebudden: 2 Likes |

happytbaby: One big family we are. Surprised someone remembered me. Feeling good about it. You are blessed @happytbaby. I don turn to silent mode. As for interview - Not yet o. Still waiting for the invite. Mails to London and Accra confirmed the scheduled interview to be held either in Lagos or Accra. I was advised to wait, that they will get in touch SOON. I have resigned myself to faith. Silently praying for them to take all the time they need. Once I crossed the 8months mark, I just took overdose of the chill pill atleast let me do another medicals, make I for get till next year to move. As am so busy now with "Acada" things. God will turn it all around for my good. I see the pages are running so fast now. Can barely catch up. Congrats to all PPR choppers. 2 Likes |

Fuzzyman: Guitarlife: Rijo02: Thanks @Rijo02. Well, I just got the GCMS Notes today so I am trying to find out more info about interviews in ACCRA (Prepare ahead). According to the Notes, I have been placed on a batch and slot for interview in ACCRA. My LVO is LONDON and from the officers comments they need clarification on my business as I am self-employed. But no idea when I will be invited. Ghost update I got on 25th April was in respect of this I guess. I submitted CAC registration papers, letters for awards of contract, photocopies of cheques for payment of jobs done, copy receipts issued by my company, reference letter from clients. Apart from major contract done, my day to day work in a cafe is paid in cash. The mistake I think I made was not putting it in LOE. That, I believe would have cleared something (maybe not). Again I used my sister as partner when I registered my business (her details), so I got her to sign a reference letter using my company's letterhead (Officer's note pointed this out, that my sister was the 'signee'). I had 4 reference letters(they only singled out that ). No Tax CC was included. Although I have it now (was hoping to get an ADR for it). Didn't add company's statement of account (used it for only contract jobs). The review required was from officer in CPC Ottawa and confirmed by another in London. They even commented that I don't have online presence but my companies initial name which I use - AAAAAAAAAAA is online having the address 1 Canada Street and I later registered the biz with name BBBBBBBBBB (used for employment points (3 and above)) having same address 1 Canada Street. (Grey Area) These guys are working though. From the notes I think over 6 officers have done one assessment or the other on my file. Its been almost 7 months since my AOR. But I just wonder how those that got PPR in 3 weeks had such luck. 11 Likes 2 Shares |

QSola: I have no idea. I think there is no end to the registration. You can register anytime you desire as long as you are in the process, i.e. with ITA, AOR, MEP, UCI, PPR or COPR. |

doppler06: This article just got me unsettled. Weigh in on this e-fam. I had additional two degrees (MPhil and BSc) after AOR. I finished the programs but didn't have the results yet at the point of AOR (Nov). I didn't include them in my app that I was doing the programs (personal history and education), as I felt it was not necessary since I haven't been awarded the results and cert yet, neither was I claiming any CRS point with them. Beside, then I felt it might put a question mark on my working experience which I was on full time while still doing these programs in School full time. However, One is a research based program and the other a distance learning program (NOUN). I have the results now as the Masters was issued late Nov. after AOR and BSc in January 2018. Can this been seen as Misrepresentation. Do I need to inform CIC about additional academic qualifications obtained? |
