Please, I would love to find out from experienced and landed seniors in the house:

1. Between getting a job as a post doc student (Faculty position/Academia) and a job in IT, which is more lucrative and have brighter prospect for an immigrant? (not necessarily software development as I am not fully grounded in it yet. Although I have beginners knowledge on Android and Web development.).

2. Which of the two job areas is more available, easier to get and with less competition? Target Provinces are, but not limited to Ontario and Alberta.

Thank you in advance.

if you are so worried, why not do affidavit of one and same. It looks straight forward but an overzealous agent could send you an ADR for that or reject your application based it.

How long more do you have to finish your PhD and are you considering academics being a doctoral student? If yes, then you might want to start from a Post Doc otherwise, I will suggest you think through why you want that which you want and focus on it.

Thank you very much for your answer.

I started this year and have two more years to finish PhD program. Hopefully, I would love to be in the academics as that has been my intention from the onset. Working with computers is my hobby and something I am good at. I wish I could get an idea of which area of science that will be suitable for someone with my set skills i.e ICT and Biochemistry. I have seen courses like Computational Biology, Biomedical Informatics, Bioinformatics, Health Informatics. But also observed a lot of debates about which is better as a course, in relation to getting a job and competition therein weither in academics or industries.

Pardon my ignorance. Being a doctoral student, can one be able to get a job with good enough income to fend for his family of 3? I ask this because immigrating to a new country (even if developed) has its own challenges and I am trying to get as much information as possible from experienced folks.

Please @wip7 I need your input on this and my earlier question. Thank you Sir.

Warmest Regard to everyone for the wealth of knowledge on this thread.

I am currently a PhD student in a Federal University in Nigeria. My field of study is in Food and Nutrition Biochemistry with my research area covering on Electroculture.

I am processing my Canada PR and would love to get advice from experienced persons here. I need career guidance.

In all humility, my academic qualifications are BSc (BCH), MSc(BCH), PGDE, MPhil (BCH) and BSc (Comp.Sc.). Obtained in that order.

I observed that our education system is quite poor in comparison to that in Canada and fear a situation where it will look like all my academic qualification comes to 'nothing' on getting to Canada.

What position in Academia can one via for in Canada as a PR with these educational qualifications from Nigeria? (I only have two co-authored published work - 1 in an international journal the other in a local journal).

Should I include going back to do a MSc program with my Comp. Science degree as a plan (Canadian Education: The onlyCanadian Education route I can take now since I will be obtaining a PhD from Nigeria)? If yes what area/course can I do that blend some biochemistry with computer science? (I don't wish to be redundant in my academic achievement in the field of Biochemistry. Hence my thought that a collaboration of the two field will be nice.)

Actually, I have a flare for computer related stuffs (Aiming to go into programming and software development) and have 10years of experience working as a cybercafe owner hence my desire to obtain a degree in Computer Science (God helped and I got a CGPA of 4.35/5). Never really worked for anyone since I started the biz immediately after NYSC. I am married with kid and I am closing in on middle 30's.

I will really really appreciate feedback and advice, PLEASE.

it seems like AVO is the new LVO or even worse.

It goes this way:

CIO - CPC Ottawa - workload redistribution (for most 9ja applicants) - LVO - AVO

So your guess is as good as mine.

LVO and AVO una wehdon!

I am in a similar situation and was expecting an ADR if need be, especially for tax CC. On mailing both ACCRA and LONDON if they need any clarification or additional document to buttress the case under review in my application , they both replied that I am in a queue for interview and no further information is required and that they will contact me SOON. Well, its been a wait for the interview date ever since. Can't say if raising a CSE will help or not. But I think most self-employed are called for an interview regardless the amount of documents submitted.
joebudden:
Good day house, so my gcms note came today and VO made a note about his concerns about my experience which I believe was what prompted an interview.

First of all, For the job I did with a small company for 3 yrs, he said I didn't submit Contract and payslip (cos I only submitted a reference letter, I felt this was the standard just to keep it simple, although I have the contracts but no payslip cos I was paid in cash)

Secondly, he mentioned that I didn't submit reference letter or proof of salary payment for a part time consultancy job related to my NOC that I did with a company from 2016 to 2017. I am not gaining point for it, so I only mentioned it in personal history. (Although I was paid by cash and bank transfer for the job). I have email correspondence between me and the GM since I worked directly under him, no offer letter, no reference. I was surprised when he said I was still working with the company when I clearly stated in my application that I worked from 2016 to 2017 and stopped way before I submitted my application.

lastly, he said the company is listed in a business directory online but has no website

My questions..
(1) Since I got to know about the VO's concern now through the gcms note, can I raise a CSE and submit the documents and clearly explain the situation or should I wait to have the interview (Accra hasn't given me a date)

(2) Has anyone submitted additional documents without the VO's request after checking his OR her GCMS note?

thanks all

What is your AOR? Have you ordered for notes to see the case analyst comment on your application? If not, now will be a right time to do so.

joebudden:
Good day all, please i have a question and I would like to know if anyone has ever been in my shoe.

LVO told me last month that my file has been transferred to Accra and that Accra will contact me for interview.

I worked with a small company from 2011 to 2014, when I joined the company in 2011, they were using a registered business name but they later changed and upgraded the name to "Limited" in 2013. For example "Divine motors" now changed to "Divine motors & haulage limited" When I got reference letter last year from the company, it wasn't stated in the letter that the company used an old name. The company wrote I worked with "Divine motors & haulage Limited" from 2011 to 2014

Also, while I wrote my work history, I didn't use the old name, I just wrote that I work with the company from 2011 to 2014 using the company's limited name because I felt it was same company.

I didn't write this in LOE too.

I understand Accra now ask for CAC docs from some people. What do u think will happen if they see that it was registered as limited in 2013 even when my Reference letter said i worked with them from 2011 to 2014. Is this "misrepresentation". I need your inputs Pls. thanks

Once I crossed the 8months mark, I just took overdose of the chill pill grin atleast let me do another medicals, make I for get till next year to move. As am so busy now with "Acada" things. I think if you have tax documents for the period you claimed and Bank statements showing transactions of the clients who gave you reference letters, you'll be fine.

I'm using self employment too. I intend to submit;

My CAC documents
Tax documents
Client references
Company Bank statements showing client transactions
Invoice issued clients and receipts
Invoice from vendors I procure from(Transaction reflects on my bank statement too)
Letter from my workers (Payments reflects on my company's statement too)....

Please am I safe? Reading your post is making me scared

I think you are in a good position. Nothing to worry about. I believe you are 'SAFE' smiley

Mixed feelings right? Well, you have an advantage. You already know ahead of time so prepare for it. Question: What do you think you submitted that would have led to an interview? Recommended preparation strategy: Start gathering all evidence of your documents and wait for their interview email to come. Your AOR and LVO will give you an idea on when you might be expecting the interview email.

I believe you will be fine.........Good luck!!!

What type of employment letter did you submit ? Was it in CIC format and did you include payslips or salary account statements ? In short what were the documentations for your proof of employment.

Thanks @Rijo02.

Well, I just got the GCMS Notes today so I am trying to find out more info about interviews in ACCRA (Prepare ahead). According to the Notes, I have been placed on a batch and slot for interview in ACCRA. My LVO is LONDON and from the officers comments they need clarification on my business as I am self-employed. But no idea when I will be invited.
Ghost update I got on 25th April was in respect of this I guess.

I submitted CAC registration papers, letters for awards of contract, photocopies of cheques for payment of jobs done, copy receipts issued by my company, reference letter from clients. Apart from major contract done, my day to day work in a cafe is paid in cash. The mistake I think I made was not putting it in LOE. That, I believe would have cleared something (maybe not). Again I used my sister as partner when I registered my business (her details), so I got her to sign a reference letter using my company's letterhead (Officer's note pointed this out, that my sister was the 'signee'). I had 4 reference letters(they only singled out that undecided). No Tax CC was included. Although I have it now (was hoping to get an ADR for it). Didn't add company's statement of account (used it for only contract jobs).

The review required was from officer in CPC Ottawa and confirmed by another in London. They even commented that I don't have online presence but my companies initial name which I use - AAAAAAAAAAA is online having the address 1 Canada Street and I later registered the biz with name BBBBBBBBBB (used for employment points (3 and above)) having same address 1 Canada Street. (Grey Area)

These guys are working though. From the notes I think over 6 officers have done one assessment or the other on my file. Its been almost 7 months since my AOR. But I just wonder how those that got PPR in 3 weeks had such luck.

I have no idea. I think there is no end to the registration. You can register anytime you desire as long as you are in the process, i.e. with ITA, AOR, MEP, UCI, PPR or COPR.

Well, you should have included them in your personal history even though they were ongoing as at the time you applied. Personally, I don't think they are material omissions. It may have been seen as misrepresentation if it were not a distance learning course and would have required a PCC. You may choose to leave the information or update your application with evidence of award showing the date your certificates or result were awarded. I really don't think it's something to worry about too much. Seniors in the house may have something to add.
THANK YOU FOR OPINING

Thank you. Sometimes (Most times) we just need someone to tell you its alright to calm down the tension. Waiting for the Finale of this application is not easy at all. At times, ones mind will be running riot thinking why its taking so long. If there is any error or issues etc. Patience is really a Virtue.

This article just got me unsettled.

Weigh in on this e-fam. I had additional two degrees (MPhil and BSc) after AOR. I finished the programs but didn't have the results yet at the point of AOR (Nov). I didn't include them in my app that I was doing the programs (personal history and education), as I felt it was not necessary since I haven't been awarded the results and cert yet, neither was I claiming any CRS point with them. Beside, then I felt it might put a question mark on my working experience which I was on full time while still doing these programs in School full time. However, One is a research based program and the other a distance learning program (NOUN). I have the results now as the Masters was issued late Nov. after AOR and BSc in January 2018. Can this been seen as Misrepresentation. Do I need to inform CIC about additional academic qualifications obtained?

https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-blog/2018/04/canadas-daca-moment.html

Nothing pays like getting it right from the beginning. Imagine having to misrepresent today and then 10 years later (after buying house and car and gbogbotigbo) and starting a family, they now overturn your PR status. You and your children (or in this case just your children) will now start from Level 0 all over again.

Our patience will be rewarded in the end
