WebmastersAlternatives For Meebo Messenger by yawatide(op): 10:59am On Jul 14, 2012
As you may already know, meebo messenger is no more. I think dudes struck it rich with google and now they are discontinuing. Unfortunately, after using them for at least 8 years, I am now left to look for an alternative.

Anyone out there who knows of a similar program that is on the web, doesn't require a download and allows me to log on to multiple chat accounts? If so, please list them here.

he he, I would love to by due to proof by contradiction, I have found more than a few stories on there that have been false. I only make the same mistake once.

Sure, there are other sites to go to. I just have been going to Sun every day since december 2007. Old habits are hard to break.
WebmastersRe: Seun You Are Killing Nigeria Business by yawatide(f): 5:17pm On Jul 13, 2012
1) Before we get unnecessarily emotional (as is the case, generally speaking with Nigerians - next thing, someone will break beer bottle on the head, knowing that the person with the loudest mouth, as opposed to the person with the most rights, wins), let us back up and look at the title of the post. Perhaps the OP needs to revise? Look at it here (bolded for your convenience): "Seun you are killing Nigeria business"

Let us debate the points based on the title of the thread please.

2)
If that is the way you put it, tell me why should you be complaining of MTN, GLO, ISP services in Nigeria. They are private also. They didn't force you to buy from them just like Seun didn't force people to post on here.
Again, based on the title of this thread, I dare say, "case closed....Cooooooouuuuurt!"
WebmastersRe: Seun You Are Killing Nigeria Business by yawatide(f): 12:31pm On Jul 13, 2012
This is a privately owned forum. It is a privilege, not a right, to be on here. If anyone, including myself, doesn't like what is going on, the solution is to leave and/or establish a competing forum.

All this creation of bigmanism is what is killing us...left over crumbs from the British era. Be a trailblazer, and create something that will, in your words, not kill nigerian business and stop complaining.

If you subscribe to either of these sites, you may have already received an email to this effect.

He he, I actually forgot that I subscribed to both a long time ago - i stopped using them because I was tired of competing with folks willing to stoop so low as to want to code the equivalent of facebook.com for $200 tongue
WebmastersRe: Please Review This Site by yawatide(f): 12:20pm On Jul 12, 2012
1) All pictures should be of better quality
2) I would expect a little more interactivity, given it's a school site
3) The services "bubble" in the right column, add spacing b/w the
4) Twitter icon isn't responding
5) Typo: ADMISSIONS, NOT ADMISSION'S...PARTNERSHIPS, NOT PARTNERSHIP'S
6) our-mission.php: add space b/w "click" and "here"
7) I think you should remove "courses" from "admissions" page

In general, I think you should google for and look at, vet school websites from other countries, particularly in the US and get ideas from there.
WebmastersRe: Jquery Slideshow Vs Flash Pro, Which Do You Prefer And Reasons. by yawatide(f): 12:10pm On Jul 12, 2012
^^^ I assume you don't go for products based on the company's tagline. For instance, coca-cola isn't it for me and the last time I drank it, I didn't smile tongue

One could argue that if they bought a flash template or if I hired someone to do it for me, they too could write less and do more, you know, he he. Debate based on the facts, not tagline.
WebmastersRe: President Obama Signs An Exe. Order To Control The Web by yawatide(f): 12:07pm On Jul 12, 2012
If this is indeed true, do you see why people like me have been asking why we as Nigerians can't pioneer our own thing, as opposed to borrow borrow and follow follow?
WebmastersRe: Jquery Slideshow Vs Flash Pro, Which Do You Prefer And Reasons. by yawatide(f): 5:54pm On Jul 11, 2012
I think jQuery is better:

1) Uses javascript, which many developers already know. With Flash, you have to learn something new, not to mention, you have to be creative to boot
2) Generally speaking, jQ is lighter than the average, similar-functioning Flash
3) Uses javascript which is free. Compare that to Flash where you have to buy the software

Others, feel free to argue for or against.
WebmastersRe: Vanguardngr.com Is Reporting "Attack Page" by yawatide(f): 5:51pm On Jul 11, 2012
Maaan! I have been asking the same question about search bar for the longest. They used to have it before but then, someone in all their "wisdom" decided against it. Now, I have to literally go through all the stories and rely on my google news feed as opposed to going straight to what I want from their site angry

WebmastersRe: Vanguardngr.com Is Reporting "Attack Page" by yawatide(f): 1:11pm On Jul 11, 2012
Update:
I clicked on the following link on the site and got the "attack" message:
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/07/group-to-declare-state-of-biafra-nov-5/

Considering for today, I didn't find any news links on their site worthy of clicking, that may explain why I didn't get it on their home page. Of course, having been the victim of malware/virus attacks as recently as last year, I am not going to click other links to confirm my suspicions tongue
WebmastersRe: Vanguardngr.com Is Reporting "Attack Page" by yawatide(f): 12:43pm On Jul 11, 2012
I just visited the site about 30 minutes ago and didn't get the error. I too use firefox exclusively. Maybe the attack is location-specific or was detected and taken care of before I got there.

About 3 or so years ago, I got a similar message on my site. For some odd reason, something told me to go to my google webmasters page. When I got there, I was told that the site was a victim of iframe inclusion. I look at the view source and found the iframe included. Consequently, I took it out. The site hasn't fallen victim of an attack since. The site is an ecommerce site, that uses opencart.
WebmastersRe: What Do U Thinks Of This Site by yawatide(f): 7:17pm On Jul 10, 2012
Yes, even if I give it a "1", it is still a pass mark in my eyes because I am not a designer. Creativity is relative. Having said that, I don't eat amala either yet I can appreciate one that is well made from one that isn't.

If I were you, I wouldn't focus much on the "big" companies. Again, everything is relative. Big is just a numbers game and doesn't necessarily reflect expertise. Figure out what they lack, beat them at their game and become the new "big" company. That's what I am doing.

Good luck!
WebmastersRe: What Do U Thinks Of This Site by yawatide(f): 5:08pm On Jul 10, 2012
- It's okay...On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest, I would personally give it a solid 4 (this answer covers html, css and javascript, including the actual html code I am seeing through view source)

- No: I would expect better quality from anyone I partner with for the purpose of producing a graphical design

- N/A, based on my second answer above.
WebmastersRe: Alas! Wikipedia Finally Joins Advertising Network by yawatide(f): 2:09am On Jul 10, 2012
So I was watching a CNN show yesterday and as it turns out, this seeing ads where they normally don't show might not be unrelated to the DNS changer virus that was set to strike on yesterday. One of the symptoms, prior to yesterday's shutting down of internet service was the showing of ads where they normally wouldn't be.

OP can you confirm, when you can, that you don't have the DNS changer bug?

WebmastersRe: Php Help by yawatide(f): 7:07pm On Jul 09, 2012
OP:
My comment about your bad code has nothing to do with CSS but the fact that you are using tables and table cells, making the code barely readable.

I will end with a story. I won't explain the moral so you better get it at the end:
Many moons ago, I took a class in lawn tennis. During practice, we would serve the ball slow and vice versa during a game. One day, it ticked off the teacher so bad that he came to us yelling. Paraphrasing him, he said in so many words, "if you serve slow during practice, you will eventually get used to that and serve slow during a real game. True professionals play the same in practice as they do when in a real game."

Good luck!

WebmastersRe: Alas! Wikipedia Finally Joins Advertising Network by yawatide(f): 11:34am On Jul 08, 2012
afam4eva,

As long as my sites are online, they can't be UG. Having said that, I have pointed out in the past that I am not here to advertise myself or what I do but to share, impart and absorb knowledge. To that effect, I only share what I do privately. I don't want what I do to be misconstrued as blowing my own trumpet or unauthorized advertising.

I hope you understand where I am coming from.
WebmastersRe: How Do I Upload My Site? by yawatide(f): 11:31am On Jul 08, 2012
1) Log in to your cpanel
2) On your local machine, zip up all the files for your site
3) Upload the zip to the root folder of your website (typically /public_html)
4) Unzip the uploaded zip file
5) Go to a browser and type in the url for your website.

Good luck!
