aaaw, now I am blushing ![]() As stated earlier, provided you have sent me the answers to your verification questions, I will take a look at your site in another 2 hours or so. Time to get ready for work. |
Not yet: I was asked to verify some gmail questions as I was not logging on from his location. I consequently sent OP an email asking for the answers to whatever verification questions he set up for his account. I will check my email again in about 3 hours or so. I must say though, OP has so much trust in me that he gives me his adsense and ftp usernames and passwords. I mean, what if I was a real bad person and set up my own ads on his forum? ![]() |
Soloqy, Oh, so yours was necessary, right? Can't take a dose of your own medication? ![]() |
he he, OP, at this rate, you might want to look at coding one from scratch. and soloqy et al, just because a site isn't based on joomla doesn't mean you can't have joomla installed in a specific directory and customize it such that the look and feel is seamless when you switch from one folder to the next. I should know: I did a site last year that is part "code from scratch" PHP, part wordpress (for their blog) and part joomla (jomsocial: for their social community). As you click from one tab to the next, you almost couldn't tell that you were using a site with 3 different web apps. As yama has said, there are tons of plug ins for each of these CMS tools. I guess d koko is in one's ability to master them, and use them to their advantage. |
But you didnt ask him whether his main site is done in joomla or has jomsocial done a stand alone version? It is not my place to dig into OP's brain cells. He asked a question and I answered. If the site isn't joomla-based, it is on the OP to say so. Again, he asked a general question and I gave a general answer. Back to OP: In the absence of joomla, you might want to look at NING or Dolphin. These are not tied to any platform, provided your server is linux-based. Soloqy: Any more smart alec retort this time? ![]() |
If you have $150, I would advise that you get the middle-tier version of jomSocial. It will be the best $150 you will ever spend on software - period! |
and I have responded |
yes it is |

If you are truly confused as you stated above and are even bringing this up in NL, I believe you have answered your own question |
@yawa: Well, in ds case i guess u're right but in others u may not be.If I am right in this case, wetin concern bird with toothbrush? Let us close this topic before we launch debate into other areas ![]() |
Oh so this is for a forum? You will need to know the exact file (most likely in a .tpl file or whatever given that they are most likely coding in MVC format) to update. Sure, let's YIM about it before going any further. |
Ads come in different shapes and sizes. After you create your ads (pretty straight forward process), the last step is where google gives you the code to insert on your site. Highlight it and do a copy. Then go to your website and place it in the right spot(s). If it is a tower ad (160x600), place it such that it is vertical on your site (left or right). If it is the long horizontal one (728x90), place it at the top and/or bottom of your site. Make sense? |
I have used hostmonster.com since 2005 without any issues. I also hear hostgator is good. |
you are probably better off getting a web host and using one of the many free website templates out there. |
@doncigalo For the type of site he is advertising, probably not. For logo design, again, probably not. But for layout? I can see myself using the layout for some kind of site. Yes, low quality is a problem for us and as mentioned earlier, the site won't work for what he is trying to do but again, I can see using the layout for something else. |
Well, IMHO, there's nothing wrong with the layout and I also happen to like the color combo. The only 2 issues I have is that the logo could be better and I don't leave the site with the impression that there will be anything virtual going on. "A" for layout, "D" for conceptualization |
I guess we are saying the same thing. To me, any modification of the default WP you do, even if you started with a blank page and have nothing but WP-specific PHP code on there, it is a customization. |
I blv there r tons of tutorials/debate on here already. All we need do is search and we shall find ![]() |
I guess technology (and more specifically as it relates to web design and development) isn't a part of this strategy: http://www.anidsinanambrastate.com Oya, make una discuss. . . |
Help you review make juju catch me? ![]() On a serious note, it's a nice WP theme customization. |
@soloqy Nope, this isn't her first site. Her first site, done by a Nigerian (and looking much better than the current one, despite the fact that there was nothing like ajax, jquery etc back then) was launched in 2003 or so. @doncigalo 1) Sure, we have a lot of hacks but you can't generalize based on that. Maybe we should back up a step further and ask if she gave the job to the first one she saw or gave it to the person based on "man know man" syndrome of naija, as opposed to being based on competence. Did she ask for a portfolio? Did she interview the person? etc etc. I think in general, we are abusing the "hack" issue. We have good peeps in the web game in naija. How about those guys wey do oando and aero website, for instance? 2) In particular, I remember watching Genevieve's interview on CNNi(nternational), last year I think. The way she promoted naija, you would think she would be "naija till I die" and not selectively. Even when pressed, she refused to say anything negative about Nigeria (for which she is to be commended) |
www.genevieveofficial.com - I write this post in an attempt to bring back the good old days of rubbing minds and debating ideas. I just stumbled on the above and decided to check the location of the company that did it. I found out that the company that did it is http://www.sodesigns.co.uk/ . I was shocked as I expected it to be done by a Nigerian company. I then decided to give her benefit of doubt (on grounds that many Nigerians own companies based in foreign countries but with branches in Nigeria) and went to the company's "about" page. It mentions the name Simon Blake. Granted, many Nigerians change their names to English names upon leaving Nigeria I figured Simon Blake wouldn't be one of them. Now, assuming Simon Blake isn't Nigerian, the question is why wouldn't Genevieve commission a Nigerian do work on her site? Isn't this saying something about how we are regarded by our very own people? I mean, even Sodom and Gomorrah had 1 good family living within its walls. Isn't there at least 1 good web designer/developer in the whole of Nigeria? Let's hash it out. . . |
help! I can't help you if you don't help me ![]() |
LOL @spikes. True talk ![]() |
If na naija, now wey we don reach $100B, na for inside "oga office" we for dey ![]() http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/18/mark-zuckerberg-code_n_1525333.html When you're a man like Mark Zuckerberg, apparently, running one of the most popular websites in the world just isn't enough of a challenge. Facebook's young CEO has set an interesting, yearly goal for himself since 2009, the year he wore a tie to work every day. After learning Mandarin in 2010 and eating only meat he's killed himself in 2011, Zuck has pledged this year to return to his geeky roots: coding. According to a recent Bloomberg Businessweek report, Zuckerberg has vowed to code every day of this year, a challenge that may very well serve him good. Last September, Feross Aboukhadijeh, a former Facebook intern and the creator of YouTube Instant, shared an anecdote with New York Magazine describing Zuck having trouble coding for Facebook's Group feature as the team prepared the product for its launch in 2010. Now, after two years of focusing on Facebook's enormous growth, we wouldn't be surprised if Zuck was still a little rusty with his coding. With that in mind, perhaps this is the perfect time for him to brush up on his skills; as Bloomberg's Douglas MacMillan points out, freshening up his programming chops may help Zuckerberg ground his engineers and, in MacMillan's words, help Facebook "keep its cool factor as it becomes a publicly-traded giant." |
First off, will this website be updated frequently and they prefer to do the updating? If not, then a CMS is too much, in terms of installation, etc. If yes, then I would opt for Joomla - easier to follow and work with. and for the clients, it has a very low learning curve (for updating) Good luck! |
let's talk then ![]() |
OP: I must admit that your question is very confusing. Be that as it may, if I understand your question, the only way you will get your site to reflect the code in the CSS is to make sure your HTML code matches the HTML code of the site calling the CSS you are referencing above. |
Simple - that site would be the one that you designed/developed laziness! he he |
