fd4: u can't tell us that you haven't found anything on google for this. Go to google, type something like "php mailto example", see what you get and report back to us if you can't find anything (which I doubt will be the case). good luck! |
It hits 3 billion views per day. . . http://thenextweb.com/google/2011/05/25/youtube-hits-3-billion-views-per-day-2-days-worth-of-video-uploaded-every-minute/ YouTube has just announced some startling new figures: two days worth of video are uploaded every minute to the service, and it’s now achieving 3 Billion views per day. The figures coincide with the Google-owned service’s sixth birthday. 48 hours of video uploaded every minute is a 37% increase over the last six months and 100% over one year ago. 3 Billion views per day, meanwhile, is a 50% increase on last year. YouTube’s continued growth, detailed in the rather small infographic below, shows how online video’s importance is still on the rise. YouTube itself is in the process of expanding its brief, with the recently launched live streaming service (currently only for pre-approved partners), sport coverage and an expanding movie rentals business. YouTube continues to hold fast as the leader in online video. Providing it can make a success of its expansion into new areas, it won’t be at all surprising if its usage stats climb ever higher over the next year. |
Existence of social networking pages have not and will not reduce the need for customized site, generally speaking. Maybe it will, in countries where there is no respect for web developers and where some "webmasters" are willing to charge N1000 for a website but not in other countries. There will always be a need for unique websites. Having said that, social networking sites should complement regular sites. In fact, I just read and SEO article yesterday that stated that search engines are adding sites with social network buttons as one of their many variables to determine site ranking on the SERPs. Though I create social site pages upon request for "free (not really as I calculate this into the cost of the site)", I don't do updates unless I am paid to do so. In today's world, one must use ALL arsenal at their disposal, within legal limits of course, to win over the customer. This is as opposed to locking out one avenue over the other just because you think you are smart and that you are saving money by not having say, a website. |
wrong thread ![]() Mr. Moderator, please delete this post |
This post na trick post now. By revealing, some bot is bound to pick it up, index it and add it to its "hack dictionary" ![]() |
Some of you guys always turn serious post into "search for babes" post. na wa o. All the same, @Spikes, after your explanation, I am beginning to buy the idea of using the referrer. What I will do is experiment with a particular site and check in every week or so after which I will report my findings to the board. Thanks |
I believe that if you read the fine print of many of those components, you will see a section that says that in order to ensure security, you should always obtain their latest updates. Also, before I get any components, I always go to the official joomla components site and if it isn't listed as "author's favorite", whether it is commercial (in which case, I transfer cost to the client) or free, girlz no dey download am, no matter how many stars wey im get ![]() |
slyrox, how I go do now. Just remember, after you, na me biko ![]() |
@Seun I have nothing to lose by lying. After all, you don't know me. This particular post isn't the only one that has been lost here and it will probably won't be the last. In the past, I used to save my posts in case it got eaten up. That way, I could repost but, I decided after a while not to bother anymore. You can choose to believe what you want to believe. I know what I wrote (3 paragraphs) and I stand by my story. |
I prefer the design of the new one but the layout of the old one - it is wider. By the way, what's up with this? http://.net/barnsfold/index.php?page=%27 |
I would have loved to but the bot ate up my post . . . twice |
SEM encompasses all you do for your site, to rank highly in the search engines and to attract the most traffic, which in turn means higher conversions. SEO is a part of SEM which emphasis optimizing your site so that it ranks highly in the natural search results (not the top or the right side) of search engines. SEO is all about relevance. If the search engine, based on (for google) its 200 or so variables considers your site relevant enough, based on keywords, then you rank highly, compared to the competition. The other part of SEM is PPC (like google adwords). You bid for certain keywords and provide a budget and your ad shows up either at the top of the page or the right column for as long as the clicks you are paying for doesn't exceed your budget. It might be worth noting at this point that google for instance, places emphasis on research-based sites so for a travel site like yours, you might want to consider placing a higher emphasis on PPC, to help boost your conversion rates. good luck! |
Checking the referrer and populating the title bar with the name/value pair makes sense when you actually land on the site. My question has to do with sites that show up on the SERPs. In other words, way before you even click a link in google to go to the actual site. So: I search for "dhtml is alive" and I get a results page with 10 results. #1 has as its title, "dhtml is alive". How is that "naturally" possible? Bear in mind, the site technically doesn't even know that it has been referenced at this point. In other words, if you were to check the logs, you wouldn't see anything that shows that the site was searched by someone in google. You only know that someone hit your site from google when they actually click the link on the SERPs. Make sense? |
@ogzille no mind Dua jo. d guy don clean mouth finish for elance come here dey look for trouble ![]() @wemaster if i understand where you are coming from, google doesn't place that much emphasis on keywords anymore. Why? cos ppl just view source of competitor website, copy their keywords and paste on their own site. Google places more emphasis on page titles and page description, compared to keywords. It also places more emphasis on how relevant keywords are used on various pages of the site. |
1) At 950x300, methinks your header images are too large (72KB). I think you can reduce the widths of the images by at least half and still convey the message 2) Leaving email addresses on your contact page I think will lead to spam from the bots 3) "Latest news" should either scroll faster or you should give a summary of 2 or 3 then like your "2011 awards nominees", you have a "more news" link 4) Remove link to admin section in the footer. Especially considering it isn't asking for a username, I think you are begging for some hacking, if the password isn't a strong one. 5) Remove ellipses from "our people". Use a table with alternating row colors instead 6) Registered trademark sign is black and barely visible in the header 7) I know I have seen that red checkmark image that shows in your header somewhere. 8 ) In blue footer section, right hand side, there is a "synchro" text there. a) Looks like there is a typo (synchrosost instead of synchrosoft) and all but the "t" is blue. New trend? 9) Looking at the source of your code, I couldn't help but notice that half the page was taken up by page-level javascript and css. Take those out and put those in external files. Then come back here and tell us how you have shaved at least 50% off page download times ![]() 10) List of nominees (right column): I would have thought that each bullet point represents a sector and that clicking each would lead you to a page that spells out each actual nominee. If you don't have any now, either take out the bullets for now or change header to read something like "award nominee sectors". Good luck! |
So, unless my eyes were deceiving me, I just discovered that when i was searching for something using 2 different sets of keywords, the same website came up #1, with the same keywords in its title bar. Example: Let's say I search for "how to eat". First result has "how to eat" in the link. I click that and I go to site A with 'how to eat" in its title bar. I then click back to google and search for "how to drink". Again, same site pops up as #1 and when I click that link, I go to the same site A, but now with "how to drink" in the title bar. Question: Were my eyes deceiving me? If not, how would I go about coding my page(s) to account for this? Please share your answers here so that we can all learn. I can guarantee you that any posts that say, "contact me for more details", in so many words, will be ignored. |
So, not to accuse anyone but I have been thinking about this for a while: Given over 100 million websites on this planet, how did OP just "stumble upon" these particular 2 websites that look alike? Hmmm. Again, I am not pointing fingers o! Just wondering |
@schneid: OP caught it because in a sense, he is trained in these ways. I doubt regular Joe Blow would have caught it. Imagine a case where Joe Blow googles for a web developer and the fake one comes up. Unotech then loses money. Not only that, let's say the fake one does a bad job and somewhere along the line, the client sees the branding of the website but for some odd reason the actual unotech is in the picture, the client could then say, "mehn, dump those guys o. They totally messed up my website". Just like that, based on branding, they have condemned unotech even though unotech didn't actually do the work. Once again, this is complete and utter shamelessness. I would even go as high as getting the EFCC involved. |
This is the very reason I balk when people on here say, "can I see your works?" It is not that I don't want to share it but that I know (based on personal experience) what some people are capable of doing. We live in a scary world and unfortunately, I bet there are no copyright laws to protect the originating developer's work. Sad! |
Site looks good but: 1) When I click "login", I don't input any values and hit "submit". The modal disappears and I am not prompted that I have an error. When I do click "login" again, I see the modal with the error. I think you should make it work such that you either keep the modal loaded with the error, or you take them to an actual page telling them to try again, because of the error. For ideas, try to log in to your twitter account, with bad values. 2) When I click "search", I get same modal and when I hit enter, with no values, I get a page not telling me if search is successful or not. When I click "search" again, I see the modal, but with no errors. By the way, nice wordpress customization ![]() |
he he, i hear he is now jockeying for a ministerial position |
Let me try again. ye ye spam bot ![]() You tack on a name value pair at the end of the file name, something like version equals 1.1. Then each time you update the file, you update the version number. The version number would typically be assigned via a backend language. On a corporate scale, companies tend to use the services of akamai, who host your files and handle all the caching issues for you. |
I don't know if "bypass cache" is the right phrase here, IMHO. I would rather say, "how to force the latest version of a file" or "how not to load a cached file". I know, tis a play on words but I think mine is clearer ![]() What I am used to seeing is tacking on a version variable to the end of files like CSS and JS. So for example, if I have a file called yawa.css, if I want to guarantee that I always am pulling the latest version from the server, I can do something like so: www.xyz.com/css/yawa.css?v=1. The "1" above is a random number generated by backend code (PHP, JSP, etc). When I new version of the file goes out, all we would do is update the version number. For those who can afford (usually corporations), they use a company called akamai. You send your files to them, they host it for you and handle all the caching issues for you. |
Simple English? Hmm, I guess you need to be clearer. @slyrox: As one elderly man whom I love and trust once told me many years ago, "not everyone needs help. They may say they need help but they don't actually need it" I'm out |
Given its popularity and heavy use by many corporations, I would say wordpress is the way to go. Good luck! |
@newgroom it is so good to know, honestly, that you know me more than I know myself. In any event, I still stand by my first response to your thread. Sorry if it doesn't meet your standards. I am a very visual person so if you don't show me a URL, I can't see the problem and hence, show you how to debug that problem and future problems. Sorry once again, your highness. Per the "mark as read", if you read the post well, you will see that I wasn't referring to you but slyrox. If I were to mark all as read then it means I wouldn't have seen your own posting, no b so? |
@slyrox he he. post link now. You know, there is so much fluff on here that I have since made the "mark as read" button my best friend. Consequently, I know I mistakenly clear out what might end up being quality posts. Sorry about that |
Error msg doesn't make sense to me. Suggestion: Post URL of website and indicate steps for us to replicate the issue on our own ends. |
1) Designer's choice. Also, before you develop a website, you need to know your target audience and the purpose of the site. If it is for primarily information, there should be more content than graphics. If it is say, an entertainment site, the vice versa should be the case 2) I have been using photoshop since 1999 and haven't had any problems with it. Some use Fireworks and I am sure they will defend it as much as I am defending photoshop. My advice? Learn to work with as many tools as possible so you are not like the proverbial "when all you have is a hammer, everything around you is a nail" 3) Keep reading to remain marketable. Always learn the latest technologies. Start off developing free sites for individuals/organizations and from there, you should get enough of a reputation and referrals to keep you going. Good luck! |
