too proud to code? hmm. Sounds like you aren't getting paid what you are worth |
Yes, cheating because prior to CSS, we were using tables to position items. Don't you remember coding a page with tables that were layers deep (as in embedded tables), just to position something that we can now easily do via position: absolute/relative? |
because html was originally meant to display content. we only were "cheating" with it the whole time, ala tables, and used it for presentation. CSS was originally meant for presentation but seldom used. Let the experts do what they do best ![]() |
If you can look yourself in the mirror and say to yourself, "even if I don't make a dime off of this, this is what is in me and is what I want to do". . . I mean, if you can honestly say that, then it isn't a waste of time. If you can't. . . |
When you say UNN's website is the best, can you post the links to other uni websites for comparison purposes? Also, on what grounds do you say this is the best? Having said that, I will troway salute to them if true that their student's built it. This is the way to go. What better way to allow the students gain necessary experience (and hopefully money too, while at it) than to allow them to build a site by them, of them and for them? For this alone, if true, I commend UNN once again. Hopefullly other schools will follow. |
Looks good. The one thing I would change, at least for the prof's site is to get rid of the web statistics, even if it is by the client's demand. When I see 17, I am not encouraged to surf further. Just me though, again, not to take away from your framework or your site ![]() |
Why are you surprised and should you? That site has been like that for the past 2 years, at least. That's what happens when you have cronyism on the one hand and people (clients) who don't understand what is needed to make their website a success. It would be even funnier if those in charge of this site visit the site of a another, similar website and then complain that that site is not up to date. I would like to say, "Things go better" but having seen this happen for years, I doubt things go ever dey better ![]() |
OP: Remember to use yeast, make d site rise well well ![]() |
If you are referring to newsletter that you send via email: 1) You will have to code it with HTML and inline CSS (stylesheets won't work, even at page level, based on personal experience, sadly). 2) You code it like any other HTML page 3) Make sure that if you don't have a dedicated server, you know what the "emails sent" limit is as otherwise, either your emails won't get sent out or you will be flagged as a spammer. I personally tell my clients to use a service like constantContact.com. Let someone else do the dirty work for once ![]() Good luck! |
99% of the jobs I have gotten have been through referrals. For the 1 or 2 exceptions, my portfolio was my proposal. For those I have written proposals for, the client has been the one to ask for one. In other words, and again maybe it is because of me getting just referrals, I don't write a proposal unless I absolutely must. |
Read up on EMBED and OBJECT html tags. w3schools might be a good place to start your search. Good luck! |
DHTML, you beat me to it. OP, you need to tell us the exact problem. Having said that, I do see other (security) issues: 1) Use REQUEST, as opposed to POST 2) Don't use DIE in your code Also: 1) I see stuff like this: {$phone}. Not to say it won't work but I have never seen it coded like this 2) You need to work on your HTML and CSS Post your error |
Sounds like dude is making it a personal affair, savoring the very possibility ![]() |
Rules of thumb (and I tweeted this yesterday to my followers): 1) When you write the same line of code more than once, know that it is time for a function 2) When your code goes very long, know that there is probably a better and more efficient way of writing it |
I dont want to see any query using % or _ !Oh maaaaan! ![]() |
This is like asking if a landlord can steal their tenants' property - not that they would, but they could. |
HTML -> CSS -> JavaScript -> PHP Share with us what you have learned in HTML. From experience I can tell you that what you learn through education in this field is not necessarily what you will use in the real world. Any sites/work you have done with what you've learned? If so, share. Let's give you a few pointers. The more you know, the more you'll learn. Good luck! |
Get rid of the bloody "affiliate" animated gifs. Geez! One on either side of my eye. It went from distracting to blinding to annoying in under 30 seconds. So much so that I closed the window and promise myself never to go back there again. Nice, catchy url though ![]() |
Note to OP: What you have listed above are not programming languages. Some are technologies, some are scripts (interpreted, as opposed to compiled). Most big corporations use some flavor of java technology (EJB, etc). |
@Mobinga LMAO! LWKMD!! @all If I were to teach someone how to code, I would teach them using notepad. Why? They need to know what is going on under the hood, before going on to something more "advanced". If I am not mistaken, a thread from 2 days ago or so has highlighted this very issue of cut-and-join programming. It reminds me of when I took a class in typing. The teacher told us we had a choice of her turning on or off the backspace key, her point being that we should learn how to type first and then correct later as computers, unlike typewriters gave us the ability to make corrections with ease. for those who chose to have backspace turned on (this was the final exam and was 50% of the grade), if you hit the backspace key, the computer would know and deduct 10 points each time you did so. Which option did I choose? Your guess is as good as mine. |
How many american sites are red, white and blue? |
This smartweb company has come up more than a few times on this forum. I think EFCC should get involved. |
Wow! I find this thread more interesting than the recently released Harry Potter movie. Oya! time to go grab some popcorn and watch from the sidelines. Hopefully, this one comes in 3D ![]() |
Na so o, my broda. My concern is that I have been basically reusing the same code for the past 6 years. It cuts down my coding time by at least 60-70% ![]() |
auwal: Come on man! You have to agree that as bad as it is now, it was much worse during OBJ's and Yardy's time ![]() Gurus? I think we as Nigerians use this word rather lightly. |
Whatever happened to good old fashioned freedom of choice? And to think I actually thought that African leaders were the tyrannical ones. ![]() |
Hmm, na wa o. If they have done what you said they have done, please take heart and exercise faith and patience. Vengeance is of the Lord. We have serious issues in our country. Only God can solve them for us, since we as a nation has refused to do so. |
To whom it may concern: The issue isn't over literal copy and paste but copy and paste without understanding. In other words, you google for something (nothing wrong with that), copy and paste (most likely because you are in a crunch), the code doesn't behave the way you expected or doesn't yield the desired results. You then are in a bind because not only is the code not working but you don't understand why and most likely, you have to deliver fast. You keep tweaking and then like magic, "d ting come work small" in that it does what you want it to do at that particular time but, at some point the code meets a condition you hadn't envisioned (cos you didnt understand the code) and then the client calls you to fix the stuff but again you can't because you didn't understand it in the first place. Next thing you know, you are giving big grammar to ward off doing it. The "smart" ones at this point either google for another piece of code which again they don't fully understand or they come to nairaland seeking an answer and not getting one, wonder why no one is responding. Phew! What a story ![]() |
