thanks for the response. I have modified the references to "he" - total oversight ![]() Happy new year |
Learn to optimize your images or better still, use a PHP function that automatically resizes them for you. |
Was having a gist with a friend the other day when the topic came up. I have heard that she is from Edo, while the other said she is from Akwa Ibom. Fellow Nairalanders, help me out. If you know where he is from and have reasonable proof (like the name is native to the particular state), let me know. Thanks, Itoro |
The customization of jomsocial could have been done a bit better. reference: http://www.senatorjohnudoedehe.com/udoedehe/ Please note: I didn't do the site. I just happen to know who did it. |
He he, speaking for myself, due to the ease of jquery and the fact that major companies like google, amazon, wordpress, etc have adopted jquery officially, I think I will stick with jquery for now. again, I am speaking for myself. Happy new year buddy! |
Your question is like asking why I should get a toyota (mass produced) over a ferrari (customized): 1) You have more control with code from scratch 2) code from scratch tends to be and look more professional 3) any business worth its salt understands the need to be unique, hence wanting a site from scratch 4) Many of the so-called templates take so much time customizing to your taste that you might as well code it from scratch. These are a few of the reasons why I encourage my clients to go for a site tailored to their needs, provided info on the site isn't updated regularly. If it is updated regularly, I immediately offer them CMS pricing. |
hmm, na wa for you o! You said there are 2 of them and I am saying split 150 - 200 euros b/w the 2 of them if they are doing the work evenly or you can pay them based on the %age of work done by each. I guess I don't understand where you are going ![]() |
Photoshop/fireworks design + at least the html code of the home page |
Based on at least 500 euros, I don't think 75 euros each is a bad deal. |
15% of what? I mean you need to be more specific. 15% of N1 is 15kobo which would be an insult while 15% of 1m is 150K So, again, 15% of what? |
It can be both. Necessity is the mother of invention. When you are hungry, you will find a way to make it work ![]() On the other hand, if you have a job, you can still do this part time. No one ever makes it in life doing the bare minimum. |
Then you need to negotiate with them what you think is a fair price. If they don't agree, in order to save your reputation, "close eye" and pay but bear in mind, the contents of my original post for the future. Good luck and Merry Christmas! |
I bumped into this site about 2 weeks ago or so. In firefox, you get a large section at the top with navigation links and julius on top of it. In IE, I got an empty space. Also, it isn't obvious that you have to scroll down to see the rest of the site. If I hadn't noticed the "dancing julius" at bottom right, I wouldn't have scrolled down. Finally, why does the same animation have to play on each page? It should be on the home page only. Verdict: The developer was on a "make I show these guys wetin I sabi" journey. It is important to realize as a developer that you are developing a website not for yourself but for the eventual site visitors. I could say more but my first paragraph should suffice for now. After all, I am not being paid for this |
You might want to visit the wiki site for this. |
1) When I first saw this, I didn't want to click the link specifically because of the "xx" in the name. I thought the post was a spam post, pointing to a porn site. He might want to reconsider the url 2) When you click any of the nav links, the other links "dance". Don't bother saying its because the links aren't active because it will act the same regardless 3) The entire page is a background image. Why? |
My rule of thumb is that any business should make at least 300% profit: 100% for savings, 100% to plow back into the business and 100% to cater to costs. So, if you are to follow my mantra, then: 1) you talk in advance with respect to what they want to be paid, 2) you weigh that with what you are actually able to pay and 3) taking #2 into consideration, you factor in this cost into your own pricing and see if clients will go for it. If they do, you are fine. If not, you negotiate down with your middlemen. If the middlemen don't agree, you keep searching for one who will. Good luck! |
Tunde, you go Iraq? No wonder war don finish for there. Abeg take style enter Afghanistan make that one kuku finish too ![]() Yep, this Akunyili site, I am actually very surprised in a sense. As former minister, she should have access to the best web developers in the nation, one would think. Though I give it 6/10, with a little "rebranding", I could bring it up to at least an 8 ![]() |
bug: did you notice that the site has been undergoing testing for the past 2 weeks, per the facebook comments? That is more reason why the site should be more robust than it is. Also, note that it is all HTML files. Lord help the developer when it comes time to update global items, with no includes. |
http://www.doraakunyilionline.org/ Please note: Neither did I do this site nor do I know who did it. Someone just forwarded it to me and I found it interesting, especially given her facebook message: https://www.facebook.com/notes/dora-akunyili/check-out-my-website/188449871168688 Hey, maybe we can review both sites ![]() |
Like say you no sabi. Na effizy now ![]() |
Hmm, hopefully he can be tracked down and asked to fix it, especially considering the balance. |
Now you are making some more sense. You basically want an ecommerce site. The way you had it before, it's like you wanted to implement an actual Automated Teller Machine on your website, which is impossible. Do what Seton says. If it is like paypal, they will provide you with a code that you add to the site and that's it. Good luck! |
I don't know how to go about this and the fair amount I should charge him for the job.Hmm, no offense but why did you accept to undertake the job in the first place? Is it that you did the site first then he asked for this later? If so, I understand. If not, again, you probably would have taken it. to your question/appeal: Would you mind expatiating on the term, "ATM"? This will help the not so bright amongst us, of which I am chief, to better understand where you are coming from and to perhaps help you out as well. |
Yep, I would have someone look at the html and css in the template manager. It should hopefully not be that bad, with respect to fixing. Also, i hate to ask but, was the original developer settled? A template doesn't get messed up on its own. Who is the super administrator of the site? Someone actually has to go into the template manager and mess stuff up. Once fixed, make sure you have a back up of the fixed code. For now, make sure you have a back up of the database, in case you are dealing with a shady individual. Good luck! |
1) Color combo isn't that great 2) It would be nice to have the nav items change in background color when you hover over them 3) Broken links 4) Links that don't work 5) I find the animation at the top to be distracting 6) What is teh essence of the finger pointing to the right, next to the text in red, at top of page? |
You can use javascriptcss for that (display: none, font color grey, etc) |
IMHO, if you want it to disappear, your second paragraph makes no sense. Also, do you want the selection unavailable to the the 2nd and subsequent visitors to the site or to only one person (in other words, it is user specific)? You probably want to have a database set up with at least 2 columns - selection and date selected. Then when the choice is made and "submit" is clicked, you store the selection with the date selected. Then each time the person logs in, you query the database for the selection and calculate the number of days. If greater than 7, you display. It probably wouldn't hurt displaying some kind of text on the page informing them that any selection made won't be available for 7 days (why you want to do this still beats me though). Good luck and happy coding! |
It's that time of the year again folks. Who made the cut and who should be sent to kirikiri for 12 months? Oya, let's roll out the sites we think should be nominated for "best website of the year". Mine is www.nuhuribadu.com (hint: I have the category in quotes ![]() |
Every thing is working perfectly. But I have some issues. ![]() Anyways, there are many ways to skin a cat. I would probably create a birthday column in my table should be of data type "text (or whatever it is)", then for your form, you should have, preferably, 3 dropdowns: day (1-31), month (1-12) and year (you determine the range). Preferably as well, all these numbers should be generated via a loop. On your form processing page, you concatenate the 3 fields in the date form of your choice (say, Y-m-d) then you insert it into your birthday column. to retrieve, you obtain the value of the field and pass into the php date function to display in the format of your choice. I hope this helps. good luck! |
