I wouldn't know, considering I don't speak any of the 50 or so languages it translates into but considering its speed and efficiency, and the fact that, given google's popularity, if they were wrong, they stood to be sued, I'd say it's pretty good. |
viewspro, if you are thinking of doing what I am thinking then you stand the risk of being labelled a black-hatter site by google and others. Trust me, you don't want that to happen to you. |
From a developer (css, html, javascript, php, jsp (and whatever backend languages are out there)) standpoint, I equate proficiency with the ability to: 1) code semantically 2) code efficiently (easy to read, easy to maintain, easy to reuse) I personally could care less if you code with dreamweaver or notepad. What I want to see is your code as it says a lot about your thought process. |
response from whom? Nope, anything that you do, especially if it is something you never did b4 and/or if it was never done b4 by anyone else, is a learning opportunity and should never be taken for a waste of time. If I understand what you mean, you are saying that no developer ever, or at least to the best of your knowledge, has ever done this. If so, why not publicize it on the sun java forum? YOu never know, you just might be the go-to guy for java developers worldwide. Next thing you know, you are the Bill Gates of Africa ![]() Good luck! |
Lesson of the day: You can't quote a price without requirements. |
Dual, not to defend the dude but generally speaking, at least in my locale, pay scale is not publicized. Why? 1) You don't want to give the competition any ideas 2) Pay is typically based on experience and what the market can afford 3) You could scare away potential good ppl who probably don't know what they are worth up front. By hiding the salary, they call in and might be willing to work for even less than what you are willing to pay. Again, I am not defending the guy. I am only stating what my reasons would be if I were the one posting the job. |
And about your blanket statement issue, i will put it to you this way(please dont take this as insult, cos its not):- SAY YOU ARE A PUBLIC FIGURE, and something happened, and rumour starts spreading around saying "yawatide is a thief",and it soo strong that everybody have that impression about you,TRUST ME, YOU DONT WANT TO SIT AROUND AND DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!, THE LEAST YOU WANNA DO IS COME OUT AND SAY YOU ARE NOT, thats not gonna hurt, is itNo offence taken. Again, just because I am being accused of theft doesn't mean that even if convicted, you are to equate all females or all yoruba females as thieves. My point: take people on an individual basis and gather your facts/stats based on your personal experiences and not a general assumption, that can't be backed by facts/stats. |
and YES! i am basing this fact on personal experiences. If you had said that from the start, I probably wouldn't have even responded. I just happen to have this thing about blanket statements. It's like saying that all Nigerians are 419s. You and I know that if you heard that from someone, you wouldn't exactly be pleased ![]() toodles |
On what grounds, Mr. Moderator? ![]() |
I support OP and can state that I believe in partnership to the fullest and in deed put my writing into practice. My only beef with OP? Why make a blanket statement? Can OP honestly state that this is true of every single Nigerian developer? Or is it based on 1 or 2 experiences OP has had? Secondly, how many developers charge enough to be able to afford sharing/partnering? I mean, if I were to use NL (general statement alert) to judge the Nigerian web dev environment, the average price for a website hovers around N25K. At that rate, I personally would rather do it all myself, and this wouldn't be called greed but common sense. |
It could probably be made more interesting if you added some pictures (of humans), for a personal touch. |
The bane of our existence as web developer is that one thing will always remain constant - our need to keep on studying in order to remain marketable. The existence of many languages, IMHO, is part economics and part "when all you have is a hammer, everything seems like a nail" syndrome. |
4 bullets at bottom of page are bleeding through purple content area (home page)Please find screenshot attached. By the way, I browse *exclusively* with firefox and as a developer, you should make this browser your benchmark, if not already.

Yeah, I see this being cool and hip for 50 cents website redesign (he does need one) but for my suit-wearing, tie-knotting clients? I'll join dual and pass on this one, sorry. |
Let's not lose sight of d koko of this post folks. OP: so based on replies #1 and #2, which of those have you implemented or will you be implementing? The most important thing to me isn't the responses you get but that you have learned from those who have offered their (free) advice and have actually applied them otherwise, why did we bother? |
because sooner or later, we knew you would tell the OP to do just that ![]() |
Despite this, you shouldn't stop yourself from trying out some of the features. After all, not all of the present HTML specs have been approved either. Many of the HTML5 features degrade gracefully so at least give them a try (for example in HTML5, you can have <input type="tel" /> and that will for example, if you have a cell phone, only bring up numbers. It will still work for non-compliant browsers). The only constant in our business is that we will always be reading to stay up to par. Note: This is a general message and not meant to put down the OP's comments ![]() |

OP: you do realize this is a tall order. As I said, it might be cheaper to find someone with a credit card the template site will accept to visit d site, buy it and customize if necessary. |
valmeji, Google for "PHP forms database" and you should get a few tutorials. good luck! |
Yawa, u use templates for designing sites too i guess that is why u are giving advice on buying it. Not a bad idea,He he, c as trouble dey take start. I have never bought a template though I will admit that I have gone to template sites to code based on the thumbnails I saw, when I first started. That is why the minute I saw the format, I could tell the source. When I said she should buy it, it's because it would take less time, based on experience to buy and customize than to code from scratch. So no, it actually isn't a bad idea, coming to think of it ![]() |
1) I would add a border around the content area as currently, it looks like everything is floating 2) Links in footer have "funny" drop up(?) menus. Why? 3) Add border=0, to your twitter icon on home page 4) Clicking around, not all pages are the same. Inconsistency isn't good for usability. 5) 4 bullets at bottom of page are bleeding through purple content area (home page) 6) blank section on contact page 7) Right column: On home page, there are 4 thumb nails but on contact page, there are 5. Not consistent. 8 ) use uniform font throughout the site |
Looks like a template from template monster. Just buy it ![]() |
r u saying u tried to download the latest zip and it didn't work? here is the direct link: http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/13105/57240/Joomla_1.5.22-Stable-Full_Package.zip If this still doesn't work, let us know. Good luck! |
geez! This post don reach 2 pages? Na wa o! |
THe code from reply #1 isn't advised from a security perspective. Why not just use regular, say, 5-page layout? |
Granted the layout of at least the home page is better than some of the stuff that has been posted here, I am left no choice but to ask the OP if he is aware that his site is more than the home page - only the home page seems complete. And on that note, I didn't bother checking anything else. |
I don't see it in FF either. This might help though: A) Paste the code under "HTML View". In other words, don't paste it into the Tiny MCE editor view. IF this doesn't work, then: B) 1) Go to the control panel of joomla and select "global configuration" or something to that effect 2) Disable the editor (it should be on tiny MCE or whatever. Change it to "none" or whatever it is 3) At this point, your text areas should be blank. 4) Paste in the raw html in the text area 5) Go back to #1 and #2 and select Tiny MCE again, if you wish. C) If you want the ads to show in the header and footer section (globally), ignore A and B, and paste it directly in the HTML of the template, under template manager. I was having problems integrating an iframe once, into a joomla site. Thanks to google, I found out I wasn't the only one with this problem. I ended up using option B above. Good luck! |
And who is damaging the image of the US? For starters: 1) Single, unwed mothers 2) Single parent homes 3) Rotten inner cities |
Software engineering = software development It can't get any simpler or easier than that. I don't know why we always have to come up with titles (not referring to OP necessarily) |
same difference |
