cos it doesn't involve chopping money ![]() how ur naija stay now? |
maybe not a heuristic one but definitely a usability test should have been carried out at the very least. I am liking most of the comments so far. Most reflect what I wanted to say but didn't want to, so as not to influence anyone. Please keep them coming. dgreatone: no, not my competitor. My thing with these reviews is that I want our sites to compete that of others in other countries, if not be outright better. In no way, do I intend to do bad belle. We have reached a stage where "it's okay" won't cut it, in terms of web development. The site is aesthetically good but as many have pointed out, it is lacking in terms of usability. basket mouth may be cool with it but the site isn't for him but his fans. If his fans can't access it, of what use is it? Will he be the sole visitor? |
Yeah, the site is aesthetically cool but all the problems i have with it border around usability. If it weren't basket mouth's site, i would have abandoned it long time ago. I will let others chime in a bit more before I comment further. Don't you guys just love this teasing game? ![]() |
IIS has its place, which is what kolitos has alluded to. Why not just use WAMP, which was made for PHP? After you get used to it, you can then venture into the "plug in world", ala IIS et al. Don't make your life any harder than it should be. As I like to say, I no go ever enter enema competition with mad man ![]() |
kolitos: Again, the site exists. I guess like some of my other posts, you don't get it. He just missed the suffix part of the url. In fact, we have both YIMd and he admits to missing it, on grounds that each time he adds it, it gets "rejected". Hint: just add .co.cc to the end of t9cl ![]() |
I see. There is only one small problem though: I am not an addict. A web developer, yes but addict? no ![]() Now back to the brass tacks. Other reviews are welcome. |
1) If I were any more woman, I would be arrested Why would you even ask?2) Superb website. Is that all you have to say? How do you go about reviewing a site? Pulling up the home page and making judgement based on that? Have you clicked around, tried to fill out any forms, etc? Imagine if you were paid to review a site and you came back after a few minutes with, "superb website". Don't you think they would have efcc on you? ![]() |
Your excellency Sir ![]() The site actually exists. He just referenced it wrong. I will let him figure out what he did wrong so that he learns for next time ![]() |
So, a lil bored, I decided to do what I do best: random googling. I decided to check which of our comedians have websites and the first was AY but he had no site. So I decided to google for basket mouth's and found his at www dot basket mouth dot tv It would be interesting to hear what you guys have to say about it. There are parts that I am very impressed with and of course, some that could use some improvement. So as not to "taint" your minds though, I will let a few go first before sounding off my own. Oya, who wants to go first? ![]() |
omo, I just clicked the link to your site, as specified in your post and got a "website not found", or is it just me? It seems like you mised ".com" or whatever the domain is, in your link. If the mistake is on your end, it definitely is not a good way to advertise yourself and your services. ![]() |
could also be that thing you do (to put it lightly ) after a few rounds of enema with water/waterleaf "juice"I can hear it now, "come on! relax your belle. open nyash small. na only 3 dey remain and u dey tight nyash like this. ok you are done but don't go to the toilet just yet. Standa there, shake belle small" ROFLMAO! LWKMD!! |
I have no idea either. I just thought I should share so don't shoot the messenger ![]() It is obviously a marketing scheme but some might benefit from it. |
I would post more, including a link but the spam bot will flag it. So google the topic of this post and you should get to the actual article. Of course, nothing in life is free so make sure you read the tea leaves on this: The largest free software distribution in Nigeria begins tomorrow – courtesy of The Nation which will circulate thousands of copies of one of the world’s most powerful anti-virus softwares. The software is one of the main tools packaged with a special disc-based video archive publication on the exploits of the Golden Eaglets over the last 24 years to be released tomorrow. |
lightwalk: opinion on? |
he he, well sometimes, you get to learn things in a human setting that you don't learn studying on your own - social networking, you get to ask questions and hv others/the teacher answer right away, etc. My only bone of contention with paying for training would be that, at least based on a few complaints here, some of the so-called teachers don't know much about what they are teaching. It reminds me of a time some years ago that my employer sent me on CSS training. At the end of 8 hours, I learned NOTHING - I had already did the learning on my own and a time or 2, I remember actually correcting the "teacher" on a few issues (I wanted to keep quiet but I couldn't let him deceive the other innocent students). He probably was getting paid a lot of money for it too. Maybe I will get serious at some point and organize a true seminar/workshop ![]() |
Off the top of my head (these days, I don't write ajax code anymore. I simply use a jquery plugin so my brain had been dumbed down quite a bit ):I blv the "loading" state in ajax is "3" (readyState == 3). So when you are checking for the readystate, if it is 3, you set your loading.gif to display: block. when it is 4, you set it to display: none. I am pretty sure if you googled for it, you will find perhaps a more elegant solution. good luck! |
oya pc, begin dey drop wetin apprentice dey drop for master now ![]() On a serious note, I am happy that you find the book very helpful and useful. When I set out on my CSS journey, I read many 300-plus-page books. A lot was useful but there was also a lot of fluff. I got the basics and the rest, I learned on the job. When I set out writing the book, I asked myself, "what would have really benefited if I were a total jjc?" and hence, the 15 - 20 or so pages that are part of the book. The foundation is in that book. The rest, you can learn as you go. spread the word to others and, good luck! |
cj: u sure you read the post in its entirety? Here is your answer, just in case, granted the "#" may have confused you: i will give the person #1000 for the payment make |
Sorry but I don't do forums, especially if they have some semblance to NL. i hope you understand. |
Where are the wedding websites? http://www.weddingphotographylondon.net/wedding_websites.html I use firefox, by the way |
cj: Thanks for the resources. Hopefully, others can learn from it. Just remember, even 10 years of learning isn't good enough in our line of work so always keep learning so as to keep yourself marketable. I hate to compare it to the mafia but the day you stop learning is the day you die. good luck! |
I believe I emailed you the book yesterday. Let me know if you got it and how you like it. Thanks, and good luck! |
same difference. Again, the focus on this post isn't "who did this site?" but why the NPF would want to put up such a site, given their resources. I am not after any one person here. This isn't personal so don't take it as such. It's strictly business. It is saddening to me that in this day and age and given our pool of resources in that country, that they would be willing to have such a "website". Not the one to judge as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, maybe this layout has its place somewhere else. It doesn't, IMHO, have its place on the NPF website. On that note, no more requests to "judge". Thanks. |
onye: I had posted my response but it got flagged for spam. As a "regular" poster, you wouldn't be able to view the flagged post, hence the original poster's concern. I did send an email to Seun to "unflag" the post, which he did and then alerted him to it. In other words, Seun responded so that the original poster would get a notification in his inbox. At least, that's how I see it. |
Seem you did not get it, I did not do the the initial design. By the way, will you still classify it as bad with the new look? When did you visit the site last?No professionalism, on top of the bad work ethic. I think you are the one, no offense who doesn't get it - a website project comprises a team. In other words, when I see the site, I am not saying to myself, "design sucks. i bet you the code doesn't suck though". All players on the football pitch have a stake in their team's success, like it or not. There is no "I" in "Team". About the intro, may be you need to talk to the big man and not me, because it is his idea and I don't have problem with that.I can't and I won't. There is a reason why I said, "may i suggest". No b by force. If they are happy with it, I guess that's all that matters, not to say it justifies its look. If the site don't tell you what it is all about, then see your doctor immediately! This is definitely the work attitude we need in Nigeria, ala the rebranding project. ![]() |
I am going to go out on a limb and say, if we are on the same page, that feature is in-built in smf (or whatever forum app for that matter). Personally, I am not a fan of counters. It only lets the site visitor know whether or not your site is popular. To me, certain info should remain private as it can make or break a site. Having said that, for a forum, it makes sense as users will know what the hot topics are. I guess it all depends on the context. |
the guy he was meant to see made him sit for an hour whilst he had his food, I think that is just wrong, people like that are not helping.I will 2nd this with my own story, though I didn't go looking for him for job but as a courtesy call, per I know his wife. He is pretty high up in the pdp heirarchy: We got there around 2pm. It was my first time in a politicians house so I was surprised to see all the seats taken. The guy was eating (go figure! what a coincidence). I greeted him, chatted up my friend and he excused us. Over the next 3 hours or so, he would come in, stay about 10 minutes and leave again for another 20 minutes or so. I was pissed but hey, I went to see the wife not him. I kept asking myself how the wife felt though then again it isn't my place to bring it up. meanwhile, those who did go to see him, never did - they just sat there watching whatever everyone was watching and making small talk. I particularly remember one man who I met there and whom I left there, which means he was probably there for 5 hours or more. As I have told others, if that is what it takes to strike it big in naija, I don't want it. I will deal with the ppl who can afford to spend N50 for a bottle of coke, tori olorun! ![]() |
kolitos: Your "finance"? LWKMD! Seriously though, I will tell you what I told Cactus, granted each person's experience is different: You are better off doing it on your own than to look for contracts or paid job. Based on my short experience, I can say emphatically, that it is the very same ppl who say "stop complaining. return home and contribute" that will hold you up in their offices for hours on end, with their secretaries saying, "oga no dey o" when he/she is there. I resolved that i would rather open up a corner shop making 5K a day, than to deal with that crap. Again, everyone's experience is different. Good luck to you and your "finance" ![]() |
I think we should have a forum strictly for webmasters and outsourcing where we can exchange ideas and all and probably meet once in a while to see real life experience and ofcos for only those who believe in a better Nigeria.1) What is this forum for? 2) If you have gone though, I would say, the first 3 pages of this board, I am sure you will see where a fellow member by name Cactus, suggested those in the Lagos area meet on Oct. 10. Assuming you live in the Lagos area, did you go? Assuming you were not aware, Cactus also left his phone number for anyone to call. I would suggest you call. He is there from the US and is looking to relocate. |
